I think there can be a really great Mosquito pokemon with unique ability.
Make it gain 50% more health when using draining moves or do a bit more damage or give poisoning.
Bug Dark potential heheh

Bug Dark potential hehehThe sad news is that whether it's bug fairy or bug dark, it's still likely to suffer due to those being rather poor typing combinations, with dark being slightly better by neutralizing damage from fighting attacks.
Meanwhile, fairy type doesn't really do much for it… sigh...
-
Style over substance, baby
always try to style, baby
-
Water bug (surskit doesn't count). Dark bug. Dragon bug. Another ghost bug.
My guess is that they are going to go deep with fairy type again, getting most of the type combinations that they didn't had. I'm looking forward a fighting fairy
-
Dragon bug
I wish dragon/bug line from Sage dex was real.
-
I know I'm a little bit late, but these new Pokemon look quite cool.
-
English video released:
Tapu Koku seems cooler the more I look at it.
-
Grubbin: Swarm
Charjabug: Battery
Vikavolt: LevitateGrubbin is the first bug type that changes ability twice upon evolving. Levitate means Vikavolt is only weak to Fire and Rock moves. If that isn't for you the most badass looking bug in all gens, it's pretty much close to that. I'm afraid Scolipede has been dethroned.
And the best thing? You can get one right in the beggining of your adventure!
-
Iwanko and Nekkola's English names are Rockruff and Komala.
-
Drampa's ability is called Frenzy/Delirium: it increases its special attack, though we don't know what needs to happen for the ability to be triggered.

The ability official English name is Berserk. It raises Special Attack by 1 when HP is reduced by half.
Pokemon Sun and Moon official site has been updated with details on all these new pokemon. Check em out, they're great! -
@Mr.:
Iwanko and Nekkola's English names are Rockruff and Komala.
Well, finally!
Komala… I love the way it sounds.
-
Rockruff….Hah!
-
Rockruff description in the website confirms it evolves. It also says it gets wilder when it's close to evolving, starts howling at the moon and at moment of its evolution it prefers to isolate itself. So… pretty sure the long waited wolf pokémon is coming this time.
Those descriptions raise the likability of those pokémon a lot, btw. Totally in love with Drampa right now (and I hope it is a single stage - no evo or pre-evo).
-
Okay, Rockruff I get but can somebody explain the pun with Komala? I mean the koala-bit is obvious but… anyone know what the M is from?
-
Komala, eh? Funny. I was just thinking that its name should be Narkoala. Maybe that can be its evolution's name.
-
@Vegard:

Comatose, I suppose.
Levitate means Vikavolt is only weak to Fire and Rock moves.
To be fair, Bug resists ground, so it wasn't one of its weaknesses anyways.
-
Is it weak to ice too. Or did electric resist that all this time
-
No. Bug itself isn't weak to Ice.
-

But is always better to not take any damage than endure some minor damage, right?

Electric types are only weak to Ground. And Vikavolt being part Bug means it only takes normal damage from moves of that type, but Levitate makes it completely inmune to them.
So you have a bug that is weak to Fire and Rock only.

Serebii has a screen that confirmed the return of riding Pokemon which seems to not be limited to Gogoat anymore

It's official guys, Grubbin and its evolutions have crossed borders.
"We're really confused," stated one Game Freak executive. "When we only gave this new ability to the cocoon stage of the regional bug, we didn't expect to see such a surge in use."
He is, of course, referring to many players - including three of the four finalists and the winner - using the Pokémon Charjabug on their team. Common trends seem to be giving it the item Eviolite and either the move Rage Powder or Follow Me."Pokémon players really continue to surprise us with how creative they can get," the executive continued. "Last generation, when Pokémon X and Y came out, we had a similar surprise when people started using Aegislash as a special attacker when we gave it mostly physical moves. It was very shocking."
When quizzed about why Charjabug was on their team, many VGC players had similar responses.
"I get what you're saying, but it's the only Pokémon in the game with this ability. I don't really get why Game Freak only gave it to this one Pokémon."
"It doubles special attack. I'll happily take that for my Primal Kyogre over something that's just there to use Helping Hand."
"At first it doesn't make sense, yeah; but let's face it - an actual tougher Pokémon isn't taking hits from Mega Rayquaza any better. Charjabug's a better teammate than Pachirisu could ever dream of being." -
This post is deleted!

The electric rodent has Iron Barbs as an ability? Interesting. Wonder if it'll actually have defenses to back that up.
-
I am having a blast repeating the new mons' names! :) I really like the designs so far but I think I am gonna stop intentionally looking for them and maybe it'll feel like Pokemon Crystal all over for me ^^

These 3 pictures, according to Matsuda, show some different/new mechanics being introduced into Sun & Moon. Like stated above, I'm pretty sure the first one indicates we can ride different Pokemon, more Pokemon, this go-around, but I'm also thinking we can ride them almost anywhere this time (like a bike in past games). Not sure about the other 2 pictures though.
-
Not sure what kind of new mechanic the second picture is supposed to imply. Any ideas?
-
Looks like Pikachu using Thunderbolt.
-
Maybe the Pikachu picture has something to do with the rumored Pokemon sync mechanic? He does look a bit different in the picture than a normal Pikachu (i.e. glowing aura around him like a Super Saiyan, like Ash-Greninja, but yellow instead of blue), and the effects of his attack seem greater as well.
-
Knowing Gamefreak, the second picture is another pikachu buff.
For the third one I'm assuming Masuda is thinking of puzzles in a 3D environment and/or ability to change perspective.
-
!
-
Finally got time to see the new pokemon.
My favourite of the batch is Charjabug. -
Theory time!!
Remember how CoroCoro said there was something special about Rockruff and the starters in their evolutions?
What if they evolve into a select group of pokemon that can be ridden? (Rowlet for flying and Popplio for surfing, Litten and Rockruff to run around)
-
will it even matter when you could be riding into the sunset on the back of a majestic stachehound
-
Just watched sme of the actual video and saw Togedamaru poke it spikes up That's adorable!
I really hope it evolves into a nice big spiny hedgehog. Need one other than shaymin. But the electric rats never evolve, so…
Looks like I'll be adding another useless electric rodent to my faves. You can't touch Emolga though!
(ANd I still love Helioptile's ears.. Heliolisk was great but...)
-
Go, Togedamaru! Go out a zap to the extreme!
-
I really hope they will change Togedemaru name in english with something like "Sparkupine", if possible. Also if the new Pikachu upgrade is not about flying with them on balloons who cares.
-
I really hope they will change Togedemaru name in english with something like "Sparkupine", if possible.
Nope. Togedemaru is the official English name.
They've kept the English names for the electric rodents the same as the Japanese throughout Pokemon's entire run.
-
they change Emolga, actually
because of the "mong" in its japanese name being a slur for mentally disabled people over in the UK and such.Togedemaru is just so uncatchy as an english name
-
So, does every island in this game have a pokemon guardian god?
-
So, does every island in this game have a pokemon guardian god?
Would be cool. Would have 4 pseudo-legendaries and 2 main legendaries, new to Sun & Moon, I mean, of course.
I could see them each being a fairy too.
–A electric/fairy (what was just revealed).
--A fire/fairy (there is an island with a volcano on it, would make sense).
--A grass/fairy (one of the island seemingly is quite heavy with vegetation). Not sure what the other guardian would be, but, I think water/fairy is just too...normal.
-
So, does every island in this game have a pokemon guardian god?
Certainly a possibility.
Tapu there gives me a real NinoKuni vibe.

They said this professor studies moves, they said moves will be strongest than ever this gen, so it probably has to do with it.

Hopefully we can actually ride them most places now, like a bike… not just in one little tiny area.
And the pkachu power up... could be akin to the five hearts friendship from XY mechanic... where they started getting more likely crits and dodges and whatnot if you fully friended them... just with more animation.
-
Togedemaru is such a good name, thank god they didn't change it. I wish they kept more japanese names… like Jalorda! Serperior is cool and all, but Jalorda is just perfect. Or Bakphoon.

Anything as long as it's not "they are some of the pokémon you can synchro with".

I really like the idea of riding your pokemon. Though, I think that the ability to fly would come late in the game to avoid skipping zones? Unless that is not that important anymore.

OMG!

I'd say something comparable to the use of CS01 (Cut), which would act on the environment, to clear obstacles or something. Maybe you'd need an electric wave to open barriers, make bridges move, or interact with specific Pokemon/locations?
The third one must indicate caves hidden on the map.
Thanks for these pictures, The Laughing Man!

OMG!
Cool theory (thanks for sharing!) - except for the part that the actual "ending of the franchise (the huge reboot)" doesn't have much to do with all that is developed in the video. Regardless, the research, the work behind it is remarkable. So much that I'd like it to be… true.
What would you guys think of a potential reboot? I wouldn't mind, really. What I do not want is - as Lockstin (= author of the theory posted by NitWiut) claimed - a change of game play. The current mechanics of Pokemon are perfect as they are.
Oh! I just realized. You can actually play through all the franchise on the 3DS, since:
- Red/Blue/Yellow are available on the Eshop
- Silver and Gold have been remasterised in Soulsilver and Heartgold on DS, thus being playable on the 3DS
- Same for Saphir and Rubis.
–
A little theory which could explain the end of the Pokemon adventure.
Ever since Gen. 5, the versions seem to insist on a particular notion: harmony, balance, with opposites co(?)existing (Black // White ; X // Y ; Alpha // Omega ; Sun // Moon). Thing is, humans have been perturbing that balance, forcing fusions when there aren't supposed to be any. Could nature, or the "gods" (legendary Pokemon) have decided to... whip them out? -
They said this professor studies moves, they said moves will be strongest than ever this gen, so it probably has to do with it.
Maybe moves can level up this generation as well as your Pokemon? Maybe you can customize moves when they level up to do different stuff?
-
Lockstin's channel is interesting.
, as a response to his own theory video (posted above by NitWit), he detailed what he would like Pokemon to become if ever there was a reboot.
! Some of his different ideas:
! ● Change of era. Different Pokemon. We'd only keep fan favorite Pokemon
! I'm okay with having a new universe with different Pokemon (though that wouldn't justify a reboot, in my opinion), but keeping "fan favorites" just because they're fan favorites? No. This doesn't make any sense whatsoever, and it will only divide the Pokemon community. Since you can't please everyone, the best strategy is to not to try to please part of the players.
! ● Full character customization (eyes/nose/skin… everything) Meh. Limiting the customization to skin/hair is enough, especially for a game like Pokemon. Younger players could lose themselves in complex customization. And most of the time, when I try to make a fully customized character, he ends up looking like nothing. I do not have the patience to make everything perfect, and I'm sure many are in the same case. ● Being able to pick your starting city (which would lead you to a different starter Pokemon) Too complicated.
● Bigger map Yes. Definitely. HG/SS had two regions and it came out in 2009. I'm sure we could potentially have bigger cities, bigger regions to explore.
! ● All Pokemon are visible at all times
Nope. First of all, I don't know if the machine could handle it. Second of all, it'd be too much.
! ● Changing the evolution/breeding system, making the rare Pokemon even rarer Why not. If it's challenging and fun at the same time, I'd go with it.
