Chapter 829: The Yonkou, Charlotte Linlin the Pirate

Like someone else said earlier in the thread, where exactly does Big Mom get all her intel from? She already knew Luffy was in Totland before Jimbei possibly told her and now she has info on a conversation that took place on Fishman Island? How does she know about Jimbei wanting to leave? So if she knows that already, she has to know Pudding is leading Luffy and Co. straight to Whole Cake. Gives credence to those saying Pudding is setting Luffy up for a beatdown.

Or maybe she is a paranoid overprotective matriarch who is always afraid her kids will leave her (both her real kids and her subordinates, since they also call her "mother"). Maybe next chapter will be something like this:
Jinbe: Actually… yeah, I want to join another crew.
BM: Oh, I see... you kids are always like that, huh!? Well, if my own daughter, blood of my blood, had the nerve to leave me like that, why would you be any different, right!?
Jinbe: Don't be like that.
BM: No it's ok. Really. Go... leave me... I am used to ingratitude already, it doesn't even hurt anymore :|... I will just stay here in the corner. Until all you kids forget about me and I die alone. sighOk, no. Not a chance. But I would love that.
-
Next chapter we will get Vinsmokes pops ?
It would be great volume if it gets packed with introductions and then an arc starts with wedding, characters like Crocodile comming back, Sanji showing off and Luffy getting first clash with Yonko.
I hope for an arc as long and as packed as Impel Down. Objective is simple and Yonko Big Mom can work very well as this arcs Magellan.
-
So we still don't know Jinbei's bounty. That's a bit disappointing, even though we know it's around 400millions, we don't know exactly how much.
-
I wonder what happens if you say treat when Big Mom asks you that question. We kinda know what happens if you choose life.
-
After rereading the chapter I'm convinced BIG Mom's hat is alive, and the one dude in the bone suit (possibly one of big mom's sons) will probably fight Brook?
-
@Tamiel:
A while back during Fishman Island, I had this gruesome image, kinda like the one we saw in Zou and its leaders, but between Big Mom and Jimbe, and then Luffy would go and beat Big Mom for that. After this chapter…I hope Oda isn't too mean with Jimbe, I have been waiting too long for him to finally come back. /fanboy
Whalefishman sashimi. Mmmmm.

How is being above 400 millions disappointing?

you either give her a treat or your life that is how it works.

So is muscat dead? Because though he might be one off I love the design

@Long:

he either just aged or when big mom gets defeated he gets his life back it king of looks like his soul was taken as well
-
How is being above 400 millions disappointing?
I'm saying we don't know his exact bounty. Just some guys in FI who've said it was at least 400millions. I ain't saying 400millions is disappointing but even though he's a futur member in the crew we don't know if his bounty worth 400millions or 450. well. it doesn't really matter but well, we will know soon anyway.
I just hope Zoro remains the second one with the biggest bounty and that Sanji catches up the monster trio. -

My personal theory is that Nitro is feeding her info somehow. Maybe there is even more of him and they can communicate somehow. It's barely done anything and yet has been seen by Pudding's side even when we first saw her with her third eye out dozens of chapters ago. Perhaps she even has them spread out in her territory like Fishman Island.
-
@sanji''s_dad:
you either give her a treat or your life that is how it works.
She could also either take your life, or make you into a treat she is looking for, given that there is a bunch of objects that are alive or have had a life-span put into them. But I give it to you, if it ain't going to be complicated or intrinsic, then it means you give her the treat, or your life. At least we know, that given her your life doesn't calm her down.
-
I like how Oda manages to make both Kaido and Big Mom stand out by being quirky and entertaining, while injecting just the right amount of hype, making them both interesting and terrifying at the same time. However, they are really, really horrible bosses. Doffy still holds the Best Boss Award medal.
!
The real Sir Crocodile
please stand upin the last panel intrigues me. I am quite positive that he isn't a mink–it seems that all minks are mammals. I don't believe that he is a Zoan. He's too animalistic to be in hybrid mode, yet not animalistic enough to be full zoan mode. ok… I think that sentence didn't really make any sense. Then what is it? Oda's version of Lizardmen? So there's a tribe of reptile humanoids living on a thousand year old sea turtle or something?Regarding Big Mum's power, I am having unwanted flashbacks of this particular theory I had the misfortune to stumble upon before. Right now the roughest guess is it being something like a superior version of Moriah's power.
-
So after reading this chapter, a thought came to me: Could it be that Big Mom's DF power simply allows her to give life to (and retract life from) inanimate objects? So all of her "children" are just desserts she breathed life into or something? So Muscat was an animated gelato and Pudding is an animated pudding? That would explain all of the other anthropomorphic stuff like the Sun, the Cloud and the Cream Puffs. Also, it would give Sanji an easy out / squeeze some cheap tears out of us when Pudding reverts to a pudding when Big Mom is defeated…
-
BigMom's children all have a dad.

That's almost as dumb as the acid fruit idea.
-
Well, we never found out who Nami's real mom is. Maybe she's one of Big Mom's daughters, rescued by a marine. Or at least Nami could lie and pretend that's true!

that WOULD be a very interesting twist, all things considered.

could be the woman in the blackbeard pirates devon as well since her first character design had her looking as good looking as nami with a cat devil fruit

This theory is so nonsensical, it hurts my brain.

Oda bothered to give Muscat a name card right before she swiped his 40 years away. It's a most likely conclusion that he'll pop up sooner or later during the arc. Oda wouldn't waste away a character that isn't nameless fodder that quickly.

There is a first time for everthing in this series. Matbe that card was important only to point out that he was The Gelato minister and he was one of Big Mom's various sons. He doesn't seems like a character that Oda has plans for the future anyway and I don't think we will see all of her many children.
-

Sometimes the simple answer is the more compelling one^^

It's barely done anything and yet has been seen by Pudding's side even when we first saw her with her third eye out dozens of chapters ago. Perhaps she even has them spread out in her territory like Fishman Island.
Personally think Big Mom has a intel network somehow. I sat down and thought about it and I realized Luffy asking Jimbei to join his crew after the blood donation was kind of a public thing. So that info probably slipped up to her. But how did she know about Luffy being in Totland without Jimbei or Germa 66 telling her? How did she know Luffy was bluffing about eating her candy in FI? Its amazing how much shit she knows. She may have spies/informants/a hax DF user like Violet that can easily attain information quickly. All I know she may end up being one of the most imformed/smartest of the Yonko from what weve seen so far.
-
I think that talk Jinbe had with Aladdin back when the Vinsmokes were revealed had something to do with it.
-
I'm guessing a uneasy truce? between Luffy and Big Mom would be a lot easier to accomplish if Lola was a Top 5 (Top 3?) Daughter. The lower the number the more Mom has to care for them right? Muscat is 16th Son and we see how he got treated.
-
Well the conversation Jimbe had with Aladdin, could have come from the fact that, upon hearing that Sanji is getting married, Jimbe figures out that Strawhat won't let it slide. So when he confirms with Aladdin that he is there, then he goes searching for Big Mom.
-
Yes. This ark will not involve a massive battle at the end of it, but rather a massive eating contest between Luffy and Big Mam. Their pride as the biggest eaters of the New World is at stake, their crews are on the line. Bring it on.
Blackbeard may also show up at some point, to claim his place as the biggest pie eater in the NW, upsetting Big Mam and Luffy's contest and forcing them to fight together.
Fittingly, Sanji and Pudding will be the chefs for the contest, cementing them as the biggest ship One Piece has had to date.
The eating contest will held on an island that created by Sanji and Pudding. When Luffy and BM busy fighting BB, a giant goldfish "Island Devourer" appears from the sea then eat the island and become the winner. But when we thought it's over, last contestant enters, she's Jewelry Bonney, the real "Big Eater", she use his power to giant goldfish and make it to little baby goldfish then eat it. Now Luffy died, Sanji become the captain, Swirlyhat pirates set sail once again.:ninja: Maybe I better put it in Dumb Prediction thread.
The crocodile have a long lost brother:ninja:
Maybe the crocodile fall into species like Headband Catfish that get saved by Hachi in his ocean flor-stroll (animal that behave like human?) -

Gyro, Mikazuki, Roshio, the Tsumegeri Guards…all hype tools that got an introduction box. Not that I don't want Muscat to reappear, but the name box isn't that big of an indication.

Why isn't Pedro worried about Pekoms? His mission was precisely to takecare of himso that he wouldn't betray the team… I don't know about the translations but maybe he's just referring to Pekoms safety. On the other hand, I bet his story in BM's territory must be related to Pekoms being part of the BM's pirates too. Looking forward to see what it is.

Only two of the four you mentioned actually died but I see your point.

That's an awesome theory.

It's me or Oda is foreshadowing that Luffy lifespan is going to get shortened again because of Big Mom? Implying that he will die at the end of the story after fullfilling his dream.
-
This chapter concludes with Jinbe shoving something long in Big Mom's mouth and Big Mom receiving pleasure from it.

because he is most likely the spy working for kaido we know that he has left the island before and it would be funny if jack came to big moms island to crash the party lol.
-

He's not a Kaido's spy, but a mink loyal to the minks.

Well jack seems to have gotten there with one of them white cards so either someone was working with jack or he got a piece of someone's card that he got from killing a mink or they gave it to him.
pedro left the island so he might have given it to jack maybe pedro even gave someone else's card to jack which will allow him to find zou again when they fish jack out of the water.
pedro could be using this as a reason to get off zou when it gets attacked again so if any minks live they will not think he is involved in helping jack.

I doubt it. It would sound so cheap…I'd rather have him develop the same sickness as Roger before him, then have Chopper be able to cure it.

Too many assumptions there.

Your "I rather have" is what sounds cheap, Luffy doesn't have to follow the same fate Roger had.

I kinda want to know Pedro's past :D

@Mr.:
Man, she just iced her son. And those sentient cream puffs don't look like they are coming back. Also, given that she extracted his "life force" I have doubts he's going to be brought back given that his soul should have departed his body by now. Of course, that's assuming he's actually dead and doesn't wake up later on, revealing he still has a sliver of life span. Some have said that Luffy will be immune, but I have a hunch that Brook may be the one immune to her power, given that he appears to have no set lifespan as a reanimated corpse. That or he could manipulate his own life force to return to him. Hard to say exactly what her power is at this point. The whole life force extraction could be a byproduct of a different power, similar to Kuma "extracting" Luffy's pain. Also it is not shown what happens to it after it is extracted. Presumably it dissolved into nothing, but perhaps she absorbed it. Which could explain why she has had so many children in her lifetime–she's hundreds of years old by taking in the life force of others.
reading you i wonder about the possible interactions between big moms devil fruit and brook's… could be interesting, but i doubt we will see any of this

Of course not, which is why I said "I'd rather have", since it is based solely on my opinion.

it's more about chopper being able to do his dream by being able to cure the disease

There is a gator man and a frog man in this chapter. I pointed it out before but we've seen outer space beings who are similar to them in Eneru's cover story. In the cover story it was a gator man and something of a salamander man specifically. I think Big Mom knowingly harbors extra terrestrial species as well. This could tie into the Vinsmokes as well, just look at those eyebrows. According to Oda those eyebrows contain the same sort of orbiting power of celestial bodies like the moon and the sun. Hehe.
I think the cold blooded reptile and amphibian people originate in outer space somewhere.
Oh and Jinbe is wearing the same new kimono he received from the people he saved in his cover story.

Yea, that be pretty cool if she actually had some Space Pirates living on 1 of her islands. Not too many, few would be nice.
I wonder when Enel is going to show up or how his story will come in play with rest of the universe.
