! Did this Spider-Man had spider senses? I mean yeah, it doesn't help in 99 percent of the cases but still…
! As far as this movie went I don't think so, or at least it wasn't presented. Only thing I got was that he has great strength and good reflexes.
-
! Did this Spider-Man had spider senses? I mean yeah, it doesn't help in 99 percent of the cases but still…
! There were definitely a few noticeable instances where Spidey clearly noticed things before they happened. The two that stick out most are Ant-Man crawling on him to get Cap's shield back, and Bucky throwing that piece of debris or whatever at him.
-
I finally got to see the movie yesterday. Man I really really liked it. Top 3 of the MCU movies for me.
Black Panther was very impressive.
Ant-Man always a welcome breath of fresh air.
Spidey in this is now my favorite big screen Spider-Man.I felt like I was watching a 5 hour movie. But I didn't mind it so much since I liked what they gave us and I wanted more lol.
-
To actually state my opinion on the movie, It was very entertaining. i thought it was pretty cohesively written too, so that you were mostly on board with the motivations and plot-developments, and there were a ton of good emotional payoffs. The airport scene is a riot, even if its a tonal departure from the surrounding film
! didn't this whole thing start with a debate over collateral damage? OH HERES ANT MAN USING AN AIRPLANE WING AS A CLUB, AWESOME
The movie feels like a "cashing in of chips" in terms of a lot of its moments, which leave me satisfied, but a little worried for the future.
! Like, poor Ant Man. He's just finished up a film of reconnecting with his family after being imprisoned for years, and now he's become a wanted fugitive seemengly on a whim. I hope he and Hawkeye turn themselves in and work out some sort of deal with the UN ASAP. Ant Man 2 starring fellow Avengers-dad hawkeye, I'd like that.
! Also, while Giant Man was insanely entertaining (I practically squeed), it also feels like something robbed from the climax of an Ant Man solo film. Its a big moment for the character, and its an amusing footnote in a captain america film.
! Black Panther essentially goes through an entire arc of "inexperienced young ruler learns to not let emotions control him", which could've been juicy meat for his solo film; I just hope he has some interesting baggage left to work through.
! I'm glad they kept Zemo alive, but have trouble seeing what they can use him for now.But overall, in the moment, the film works like gangbusters. The central trio of Cap, Tony and Bucky works extremely well, and everyone gets a good character moment; Vision and Scarlet Witch are compelling now! Thats awesome!

I'm curious, does anyone NOT have Civil War in their Top 3 MCU movies?
-
Top 5 definetely. Not quite sure how to rank it compared to Guardians, Winter Soldier and Ant Man; Iron Man 3 might still be number 1 though.
I gotta say the thing the movie has gotten the most right/wrong, is leaving me anxious for more Spider Man and Black Panther.
-
I'll probably see it before the month ends. I heard it handles the issue better than the comics did?

Are you serious about Iron Man 3? Not saying I dislike it or anything, but I only see people complaining about it.
-
I was a bit surprised about IM 3 being on someone's top 3 as well. But then again I liked Thor Dark World. But that was due to Loki more than the story.
-

Dead serious. As someone with no personal attachment to the Mandarin, and a great fondness of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3 is an eminently entertaining movie.
-
Definitely at least in the top 5 for me. Better ensemble movie than Avengers 1 and 2 but I'm not sure it trumped Winter Soldier as No.3 for me. GotG is No.1 btw.

@Daz:
Ant Man 2 starring fellow Avengers-dad hawkeye, I'd like that.
Me too, it'd be nice for Hawkeye to appear in other solo movies like Black Widow from time to time since he'll probably never get his own movie

Hey, fellow Iron Man 3 fan here! If I take out the "It was the first one!" and "It Started it all!" stuff Iron Man 1 has going for it, I think 3 is my favorite Iron Man film.
Yeah… I DO think a big part of it was how people reacted to the Mandarin. I think whether or not you were ok with that change decides whether or not you enjoy or hate the film. Which is, I think, unfair as it is really really good IMO.
Only thing that ALMOST loses it pionts is... no AC/DC music lol.
I'm curious, does anyone NOT have Civil War in their Top 3 MCU movies?
If I had to update my top to bottom list of best to worst MCU movies, It'd go like this now:
(Keep in mind, I've only seen Civil War once, so I don't have the same level of hindsight I have with the rest. Seeing it again tomorrow)1: Captain America: Civil War
2: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3: Guardians of the Galaxy
4: The Avengers
5: Iron Man 3
6: Iron Man
7: Avengers: Age of Ultron
8: Ant Man
9: Captain America
10: Thor: The Dark World
11: Thor
12: Iron Man 2
13: The Incredible HulkI used to think Iron Man 2 was the worst Marvel movie because of how hamfisted and awkward the Avengers setup was, but…. Batman v. Superman put that into perspective... lol
-
I was a bot surprised about IM 3 being on someone's top 3 as well. But then again I liked Thor Dark World. But that was due to Loki more than the story.
Didn't take you for being a bot, you seemed so human from the outset:ninja:

I don't know about the movie but Peter's Spider sense is useful in the sense it suppose to alert him to imminent danger but not exactly what the danger is nor where it's coming from, if it did that it would make him super broken.

Ok, it's Monday now.
X-Men Apocalypse Review Embargo is up and… it's taking a beating.
I thought it was pretty meh, but overall passable tbh, tho maybe BvS set the bar so low, that finally getting to see…
! A Decent portrayal of Phoenix
was enough?
I dunno.
Still can't get Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics out of my head tho…
-
Hey, fellow Iron Man 3 fan here! If I take out the "It was the first one!" and "It Started it all!" stuff Iron Man 1 has going for it, I think 3 is my favorite Iron Man film.
Iron Man gets a big boost just from people appreciating its foundational role, true. On repeat viewings it becomes clear how little actual action is in it, and the finale kinda sags. Its still a fine film, with a huge chunk of that being due to Downeys charisma, but for my money IM3 is more entertaining throughout.
Yeah… I DO think a big part of it was how people reacted to the Mandarin. I think whether or not you were ok with that change decides whether or not you enjoy or hate the film. Which is, I think, unfair as it is really really good IMO.
Its also the fact that people don't much like actual villain Aldrich Killian as a replacement, but I personally found him delightfully hammy, and a perfect tonal match for the throwback-action movie vibes the movie was going for. I like him a ton better than Jeff Bridges, Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke combined and, his final bout with Iron Man is a more fun and visually entertaining show than armor vs armor.
Thinking back on Iron Man 3 after Civil War though
! Makes me sad forTony and Pepper. I really hope they can patch stuff up for a happy ending, I'm a romantic sucker like that
Speaking of X-Men, how is Mystique/Jennifer Lawrence in the film? I didn't much care for how hard the two prior movies pushed her, and that train seems to keep on rolling here. At the very least I hope she's more blue in the movie than the "come see Pretty and Trendy young superstar Jennifer Lawrence being supposedly proud-to-be-blue-but-not-on-this-poster mutant Mystique" marketing
-
So yeah, I totally forgot who Ross was after finishing the movie.

! Servicable, but they do nothing new with her. Like, the new main conflict is that she's kindof a mutant poster girl after saving the president and this is a springboard for her to be like "Do I want to be a good guy and Lead the Xmen, or not" and it basically devolves into "Mystique is torn between Charles and Magneto" again…
! But hey, at least she's better than Angel and Psylocke... Pretty pissed tbh, I've been waiting for Psylocke for a while... 4 lines... 4.... -

Shoutout to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! More people should see that movie.

Not me. It was too dour for my personal tastes. It was good and well done and there's no fault there, but I like it a little more fun and rewatchable. Here i can't imagine sitting through the first hour too many times, and mostly fastforwarding to the action scenes.
Iron Man 1, Avengers, and Guardians would be the top of my list. Its all muddled after that.
And I'm in the group that liked
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 2Iron Man 3… even if a potential long term Mandarin was wasted.--- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Daz:

Well, they have to work with the fact the actress doesn't want to do the role anymore, but she played the part enough that she's harder to recast than Hulk or Rhodey were.
-
My list:
1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
2. Iron Man
3. Guardians of the Galaxy
4. Captain America: Civil War
5. Avengers
6. Iron Man 3
7. Ant-man
8. Captain America: The First Avenger
9. Avengers: Age of Ultron
10. Thor
11. Thor 2: The Dark World
12. Iron Man 2And I still haven't seen Hulk. For me 6-10 are all pretty close though, with the top 5 being of significantly better quality.

I guess she stopped Magneto, but didn't she wave a gun at the president herself? Eh, I don't really remember the exact fallout of the Sentinel programs failure, Magnetos stadium stunt, and Mystiques flip flopping. But I do remember the final wrap-up of "People like X men now! Trask is imprisoned!" seeming like quite a stretch. But I guess Apocalypse is now here to rectify that and restore the mutant-hating status quo.

! No, she waved the gun at "Bolivar Trask", the guy who created the sentinels.

If anything, Mystique saving Nixon should make the populace hate mutants more.

I honestly find it really hard to rate the Marvel movies now….fine, I'll try, but the first 5 or so movies will probably change around a lot in the future:
1. Avengers 1
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
3. Captain America 3: Civil War
4. Captain America 2: Winter Soldier
5. Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
6. Iron Man 3
7. Ant-Man
8. Iron Man 1
9. Thor 1
10. Captain America 1
11. Iron Man 2
12. Thor 2: The Dark Kingdom
13. HulkI find it easier to group some of the movies together into different tiers. The first four on my list are the top-tier movies from Marvel. Place 5 to 8 are still really great. 10 to 13 are the flawed, weaker ones. Thor 1 is kind of in the middle, I found it pretty enjoyable and a nice introduction to Thor and Loki.
-
Well if I have to rank them…my top 3 seem keep changing places in my head but at the moment I'll go with:
1. Captain America 3: Civil War
2. The Avengers
3. Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier
4. Guardians of the Galaxy
5. Ant Man
6. Iron Man
7. The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
8. Thor
9. Captain America: The First Avenger
10. Iron Man 3
11. Thor 2: The Dark Kingdom
12. The Incredible Hulk
13. Iron Man 2Iron Man 2 is pretty much the only one I don't like. Civil War, Avengers and Winter Soldier to me are 1, 1A and 1B...just too much good stuff.

I've been invited to watch Civil War this weekend, should I spend my few good coins to watch it at the theatre?

If you're in any way a fan of these characters: Yes. Very very Yes.
You need to have seen all the movies up until this point in the MCU to fully get it tho.

1. Guardians
2. Civil War
3. Winter Solider
4. Avengers
5. Iron Man
6. Ant-Man

8. Iron Man 3

Thanks, from most movies I've seen listed I am missing: Captain America TFA, Thor, Thor TDW. And I'm not sure about The Incredible Hulk, should I bother watching these? I did read the Civil War comics, but I've heard I shouldn't take it as a reference.

I would suggest watching the first Captain America movie. You can skip the Thor movies easily for this one.

You've seen all of the really important ones for this movie, tho the first Captain America movie might be a good idea as there's a few callbacks.
Incredible Hulk isn't needed at all, but there is a big character in this movie from that movie.

My Top 3 : Civil War > GotG > Age of Ultron
My Bottom 3 : Captain America 1 > Iron Man 2 > HulkBtw, I've rewatched AoU last night, and I really feel now more than ever that they made a bad decision regarding Quicksilver. Such a waste.
His death could have had a lot more impact if he survived for a few movies before dying. -

His death could have had a lot more impact if he survived for a few movies before dying. While watching Cvil War I was hoping for a scene were Wanda was reminiscing about her brother. Even just looking at a picture of him. Why is it always so hard to remember the fallen? Hawkeye mentioned him but that's all.

Been interesting reading and watching various things about Civil War. Seems like problems people have with the movie come down a lot to only having so much time in the movie to do stuff. There are some legit problems such as early action scenes being shaky, among other things, but most things come down to time constraints. If I had to identify my big problem, it would be the ending.
! After seeing the movie a second time, it really does hit how very little consequences happen. Yes, half the avengers from this movie have to go incognito, and Rhodey did get severely injured. Beyond that though, while tensions were high in the climax it seems that everyone is mostly okay with each other afterwards. The fact that everyone got out of jail just like that also leaves a raw taste. A character didn't necessarily need to die, but the idea that this was supposed to split the group didn't work as well as I thought it would. Maybe we will see a little more in later movies, but it just feels like things were left off on too much of an upbeat way.

I think that's on the music they use in the end. Logically thinking about it the situation is kind of not pretty.

So I saw Civil War over the weekend and it was pretty entertaining, but I do have one issue which I don't know if anybody shares, but I just don't give a goddamn shit about Bucky. He bores the living daylights out of me. It was already annoying to have him as a focus of the last Captain America movie, but now they made him the focus AGAIN. The action was great, and as I said overall the movie was entertaining, but the plot was probably one of the worst for me, and any scene involving Bucky just had me groaning. I think it's just compounded by the fact that I find Captain America to already be a rather lackluster character overall. I liked how all the other characters were handled though.
-
I have similar feelings about Bucky. He was boring in Winter Soldier because he was mind-controlled the entire time and wasn't capable of character development until the very end, maybe. And in Civil War he really doesn't get to do a whole lot to (re)develop his character either. He's mostly a plot point to argue over. Of course you are plain wrong about Captain America. :ninja:

I partially agree. It didn't take away from the movie for me, but the whole thing could have been more effective if I cared more about the character central to the conflict. As it is, I care about Captain America, so I kinda care about Bucky for his sake, but yeah. I don't dislike him or anything, don't even find him boring or lackluster, but I just can't muster up any strong feelings for him one way or the other. This was even the case in the first Captain America. I didn't care that much when he "died", honestly. I do know quite a couple of fangirls who certainly love him the most out of anybody :ninja:
-
The entire timetable with doing Winter Soldier as the second outing is kind of awkward. We didn't have enough time or adventures with Bucky in the first movie to be really attached to him, and not enough time passed in real life for it to be any sort of thing.
In the comics Bucky had his own costume and went with cap on tons of adventures, and then he died… and was dead for like 50 years. His death had a long term presence in the comics, it was one of the bad things from Cap's past, to the point it was a joke that only Bucky and Uncle Ben stayed dead.
Then they realized that Bucky had never actually died on camera and brought him back surprisingly effectively... and obviously there's no way to replicate that in film... but a bigger part for him int he first film, a bigger death? Coulda helped.

Yeah, I think a bigger role in the first film would have really helped. So I guess the problem really lies with the first one not building him up enough as a likeable and worthwile character.
