The Momo stuff just won't get out of my head… I can't believe it was just a lie to act tough or whatever
Chapter 820: Dog and Cat have a history
-
-
Man I kinda don't want anybody to fight Jack because it might drag for awhile and I feel like Zou is a good arc to end with just 2-3 chapters left.
-
The blade needs to be flexible to absorb the shock. If you've ever seen a slow-mo of blades colliding, you know what I'm talking about. If the blade can't flex, it will break from the shock.
Diamonds being indestructible is mostly a myth. Or poor wording. Diamonds being called the hardest substance mostly refers to their resistance to scratching. As far as it's toughness goes, it has more to do with the structure of any given diamond stone. A diamond will break if it gets hit in the right place. It's comparable to trying to squash an egg shell with your palm by pressing the poles as opposed to pressing the sides. Or for example, a gorilla glass, which is resistant to scratches but can be broken easily.
Of course, Oda might drop all that in favor of having a cool diamond sword just for kicks. But knowing how much care he puts into research I doubt that's going to happen.
Okay I did some brief research. I read this debate on a RPG forum.
https://www.roleplaygateway.com/real-life-100-diamond-ultimate-sword-useless-sword-t36279.html
From what I gather you are right. But one possibility is what if the edge could be diamond and everything else remain steel on his sword. Therefore flexible. Then keep active CoO activate diamond on skin with CoA protection when necessary.Or Oda somehow makes diamond flexible? :ninja:

The original Japanese text does say the same. Momo tells them he has met the Roger pirates (doesn't specify Pirates, but he does use plural).
Wonder, as some of you predict, if Jozu did die at that battle, how is Marco taking it. Lost his captain, Ace and then Jozu, can't be easy, no matter who you are. Really hope we don't see a Marco, who's spirit is broken and has no will to fight whatsoever.
-
Luffy's forces are getting way too OP
Law, Luffy and Zoro are going to absolutely fucking destroy Jack crippling kaidou's main man. I can't see how big mom and kaido can stand up to the alliance at this point
wb pirates + samurai + minks + strawhats and fleet + heart pirates + maybe others (jinbe? germa 66?). IT's going to be a bloodbath
-

I highly doubt it's going to be a long fight.
Jack's not expecting a bunch of powerful guy on Zou, he's expecting a bunch of injured and weakened minks. Thanks to Gin Rummy keeping the truth from Jack. -

-
A separated, fallen Whitebeard crew. Now we're trying to find Marco in order to reunite the WhiteBeard captains and gather their allies in the fight on Wano.
This sounds epic.. it can't be just me.
Ahh these chapters are amazing.

They've got an incredible amount of forces. Whitebeard had enough forces to take on the ENTIRE ELITE MARINES.
They've got some good numbers, yes, but it still isn't enough.

what if he's got drake and the third calamity with him? what if weeble shows up?
I'd think the other 2 calamities would tell Jack to piss off even if he was the type of person to ask for help for any little thing. Like tying up loose ends. I don't think he would like them to know that he had to gas a bunch of furries and then had to come back to kill them again.
Not sure what kind of crazy twist of events would have to happen for Weeble to stumble there.

marco is the phoenix, if he of all can't get lively again nobody can't

yeah, i suppose
it's going to be a massacre as it stands though
-
he has a crew full of ruthless killers - I doubt he intentionally let them live, they must have retreated when they realised they couldn't win. Given he's on the hunt for DF powers, i can't see him letting such a super rare ability like
Marco's get away from him deliberately.
Or Jozu';s fruit for that matter, which is a great defensive ability to have, would work well with Burgess imo..Blackbeard didn't hunt the WB pirates for their fruits, they came to him and they fought and the losers left to lick their wounds. I think it was more of a statement that he deserves his title as Yonkou. Though you're right that they wouldn't want to pass up on the opportunity but the truth is they couldn't kill them and they later disbanded.
The sad thing is I think Blackbeard singlehandedly took care of them with minimal help from his crew. Gura Gura and Yami Yami…
-

I was counting members and I think right now Luffy's assorted allies comprise about a third of Whitebeard's forces at Marineford. If they can get Marco and 2-3 other commanders that gets closer to one half of Whitebeard's fleet, though I left Whitebeard himself out because I was sure how to account for him. If you factor in Kaido losing his arms flow, a Shichibukai, and soon one of his three Calamities then Luffy's not too far off.
-
Neko & Inu vs Jack n the final battle with Kaido on Wano. It makes more sense

This song needs to be added to the playlist Brook plays from.

Hey Guys,
Has anyone noticed Zoro in any panel of the chapter? (i'm at work and can't check the chapter again right now)
If not…then Zoro got lost and he might be facing Jack sooner than we thought.
-
So if the SHs split up again as hinted in this chapter. I wonder if this is an admission by Oda and the Editors that he can't really handle the full on cast anymore, or simply wants to keep the core cast for each arc a bit smaller so they don't overshadow new characters coming in, and to give other Straw Hats more limelight. Could be wrong, but it seems he's juggling far more balls in the air than previously.

Zoro has a moment where he asks if Kinemon & Co will make it to Wano safely after they announce their departure. He's there.

I wonder if Blackbeard let them live just because of former ties and cuz he doesn't even see them as a threat or they escaped barely

So there IS something off with momo's age. He claims to remember roger. And he remembered dog storm and cat viper being friends, and they stopped being friends after they came back to zou.
What year do the minks think it is? The samurai? Momo? How long has wano been under kaido? Less than the timeskip or the whole great age of pirates.
Oden's crime wouldn't allow to postpone the execution, would it?
Butwasn't there a scene where Momo was told to be too young to make a decision or something? the time when he begged luffy to help him
-
when he fought Mr 1 in alabasta, after he got cut, Barnes said that all. he had left after cutting steel was to cut diamond, and Zoro. reply was that cutting diamonds would be a waste, if of diamonds or effort I don't know, but the idea is that he wasn't interested
I can barely tell what is being said in this post…??
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Do you recall the Zoro vs Kaku fight? Things being cut aren't based on pure power but rather technique. Mihawk was not trying to cut diamond when he made a slash for whitebeard.
Also there is the "breath of all things" flashback when Zoro's master was able to cut the rock without cutting the leaf. I think it is deeper then just being strong enough. It is technique and skill. Different techniques to cutting different things.
It's almost as if strength is the same thing as "skill level" and not always literal physical strength.
Also no, it's never been said that sword cutting in One Piece is like Star Trek beams that have to adjust to the exact type of target lolll. Mihawk was swinging at WHITEBEARD. If that wasn't his strongest sort of slice I don't know what is.
This talk is crap if I recall that comes from the lousy translations that have been sitting around for awhile.
-
I know this sounds weird, but I feel so bad for Zunisha. She's just wandering around minding her own business and then Jack comes and tries to kill this old Elephant. I want Luffy to kick Jack's ass so bad just for Zunisha's sake. Don't even care about anything else.

Wano people is not normal sized… what if they have longer lifespans and Momo is the EQUIVALENT of a normal 8 year old but in reality he is like 25 or something lol
I don't think Oda just made that dialog just randomly... but I do think Momo IS a genuine "8" year old child.

Basic logic dictates something reasonable and not ridiculous. So no, no time travel, and no dog years rules that make eight year olds adults.
The most reasonable explanation is he's confusing Roger with someone else, which people are suggesting might have been Ace. -

I don't think Momo is an adult with his age reversed, but I didn't call the people suggesting it ridiculous or illogical.
Yes, he might have confused Ace with Roger but how so? Maybe Oden told Ace "you look like your father" or something around those lines, and "Roger" and Ace's face were stuck into Momo's memory. Could be.
-
So… Nami,Chopper and Brook will have some spotlight or am i getting cheated again?
-

That's not reasonable at all, considering Momo should be very much aware that Roger has died 12 years before he was born and considering that, instead of correcting Momo, Neko just said that one day they need to hear entire Oden's story.
Not even sure how someone would confuse Ace with Roger and then live with that belief for years without anyone telling them the truth. Why wasn't Momo sad when Usopp informed him of Roger's death? When did he think Roger died? Why didn't anyone correct him? "Silly Momo, that wasn't Roger, it was his son Ace who didn't want to have anything to do with him."

Neko's comment was unrelated to the little side commentary Momo made on an already ongoing conversation.
And uh do you not interact with children ever? Are they generally strongly aware of every adult they've met before and very conscious of the passage of time? No not really. Not even sure how someone would confuse Ace with Roger and then live with that belief for years without anyone telling them the truth.
Momo mentioned it extremely casually, like he was badly recalling memories and confusing things. Not to mention saying something without really thinking it through.
This is somehow a more outlandish idea then time traveling Gold Roger to you?
Why wasn't Momo sad when Usopp informed him of Roger's death? When did he think Roger died? Why didn't anyone correct him? "Silly Momo, that wasn't Roger, it was his son Ace who didn't want to have anything to do with him."
You realize Ace and Roger being blood related have some y'know, visual similarities? That an uninformed half interested kid wouldn't be an expert on? You're talking like Momo is a One Piece fan following the series and researching everything on wikipedia at the same time lol. As to being sad, it's pretty obvious Momo even in his confusion didn't feel some heavy connection to the person he met (why would he if it was a quick visit from Ace or whoever?).

I know exactly what the deal with Momonosuke is btw. It's awesome.

I figured it out almost the moment I read the scene. It's classic Oda. I haven't used sources to confirm it but I'm certain I know what the deal/reasoning behind it is.

Well…......... fuck......... These five days are going to be extremely long.......
On the bright side, you have something OP-related to look forward next week.

So what's your explanation for what happens during the Breath of All Things? Because it seems to me all these events are pretty similar in that you can't cut something unless you mean to cut it

http://mangasee.co/manga/?series=OnePiece&chapter=570&index=1&page=8The only one of those that at all suggests the ridiculous Star Trek shield logic is the Kaku one.
The Mr.1 fight dialogue as ever suggests a sort of almost Shinto philosophy logic.
As for the Kaku one I wish I had my volumes to reference the official english translation because I don't recall that line on other reads. -
Seems like a big new set of cards that were just added to the deck that are being put aside.
True, but I don't mind.
I need a nice, long break from the gladiators and dwarves.

Mihawk was cutting icebergs in half by accident but couldn't get through steel until he tried? It doesn't make sense. Maybe CoA, but why then didn't he use it on the first hit?
-
These last 3 chapters have been so BEAST that Kaido invited them to join his crew. I really am looking forward to the improvements that Nami, Chopper and Brook could get; especially the former, as Robin really got the shaft last arc, so please let Nami do something awesome.
-
@Monkey King
I've got the official translation of the Kaku thing, btw:
"Could you have cut me if I'd been metal? It's up to me to decide whether to take an attack with Iron Body or with something else"
-
But how does that explain Daz Bonez not going down with the first hit, but being destroyed with the second one?
Technique over raw strength it would seem. Maybe even something to do with channeling Haki, wouldn't discount Zoro talking about learning stuff like that from big M over the two years.
Makes a billion times more sense then "I HAVE SET MY SWORD TO CUT CAKE, I HOPE THERE IS NO JELLY IN THE MIDDLE FOR I HAVE NOT SET MY SWORD FOR THAT AND IT WILL BE STOPPED."Maybe CoA, but why then didn't he use it on the first hit?
Considering he was aiming for Luffy I have to wonder if he was going for a death blow.
-

I was in the middle of reading and the host connection died! Oh, what a world.

I loved how Robin knew Luffy would recognize Marco as the pineapple looking guy.
-
Momo is Oden himself;
-
Marco is more like an Eggplant to me.
