Wish the direct had more info about Pokemon sun and moon but we have 10 months for that to happen. Pretty cool we can transfer our pokemon from the downloaded Red/Blue/Yellow to the new gen. Maybe I can finally get a surfing pikachu on the 3ds.
Zygarde's alt forms are already in Picross, and they'll still appear in all subsequent games. They aren't being ignored, he just isn't getting his own game over it. Same way a big deal wasn't made over Rotom, or Shaymin, or Keldeo, or Diance or Hoopa or Deoxys having multiple forms.
It wasn't a glaring obvious gaping plot point like Kyruem was begging for more information. Everyone just assumed from the XYZ thing.
Anyway, that was a pretty disappointing reveal. Not even official art for anything yet? Well, hopefully they hold back info this time around… XY had revealed all but like 4 monsters by the time it came out.
(It's also possible the company themselves were still planning on Z until recently and changed course for the 20th, might be why there's so little finished art this time around)
I wonder why Amazon only has pre-orders for Sun and not Moon. That's random. I also see no rush to pre-order though.
They often have listing for just one or the other when its this early. They put both into the same page and split the menu eventually.
There is probably a couple ways we will get info on Sun and Moon by the time it releases first is coro coro, 2nd is GDC (which will already have Pokemon GO), and third is E3.
Wait you can transfer the Red/Blue/Yellow pokemon to Sun/Moon via Pokemon Bank?!
How….does that work exactly? I mean, all of the types are still there, as are the moves, but there would be some serious stat recalculation.
Yes. If silver could, then the bank can as well.
They probably changed the base genes (IV, EV, personality, gender, ability, shinnyness) of the pkmn in RBY already, or just asign them out of other variables already in the code, like they did to GS.
I wonder if this new gen will be using a new graphic engine.
If its still 3DS, they'll probably keep the old one because it still looks really good, covers the first 700 mons, and was already taxing the 3DS' hardware to do even that. Those models were really high quality, future proofed. Same way gen 3 sprites got reused for years.
They miiight change the render style just to make it look different though. Since they are models that's easy enough to change with a simple filter switch.

As of now, with all the information present, I can make a measured and rational statement that there is no reason for me not to be getting Moon.
Unless Sun has an exclusive goat.
Still waiting on that Capricorn pokemon . . . .
I suppose there is a chance of having Pokemon Star.
Wake me up when we get Pokemon Goat version.
Enters a death-like state of eternal sleep enchanted like that of Snow White, but one from which he will only wake not by the rugged, yet moist lips of a handsome prince, but the sonorous bleating of a majestic goat
I have to say this: Sun and Moon are really lame names. It is the kind of thing I would expect from those minor titles that copied Pokémon (and when I looked at it, I found out that, yeah, there was Robopon Sun and Moon). That said, X/Y were also terrible cliché names, but the games were amazing nonetheless, so whatever.
Full disclousure: While the two version system is passable at best, just to add variety to the ecosystem, having some exclusives and adding a layer of negotiation, the third version is an attempt to make people double dip by sparcing features over games, hold over between gens and just sell the same game 3 times, and I'm glad that they moved on on that.
The mid version is always where they put features that didn't make it to the first pair, or add a few extra moves as a balance patch through the move tutors. I'd rather pay 10$ for that, than a full new game.
Hell, the move tutor should be a free update.

Maybe when the go the Zodiac. But the exact opposite of Capricorn is Cancer so.. Unless they make Pokemon Cancer, or Pokemon Crabs version, no goat.

Look at this guy.
Implying that anything can compare to a goat.
And here I thought I was done with my Pokémon TCG collection T_T… Oh well...Let the endless fanart of "starters" begin. I really hope for a Electric/Dark and a Fairy/Ice pokémon.

I've always wondered what other "pairs" they could come up with in the future. Let's see, there's King/Queen, Sword/Shield, North/South, Sky/Sea, Dog/Cat, Mind/Soul . . . .
Anybody got any other ideas?

Of course the third version was just for money-grabbing. That was obvious from the beginning.
Pokemon Cancer and Pokemon Crabs? These games just got too real.

Did you fill up your boxes with nothing but Gogoats? I'll accept nothing less.

I have a serious question…What is going to be the name of the 3rd game of the 7th generation ? Pokémon Meteor ?

Pokemon Star. Easy.
Pokemon Eclipse
Also, death to the third version, cheap dlc ftw.

This version of the game is coded entirely in Java.
So on the other forums they seem to be discussing how the artwork suggests that the new region would likely be based on Hawaii.

If Gen 6 is any indication, there will be no third game. Just a remake of Diamond/Pearl. As is the third game filling time made some sense for the gens that took four years, but not so much the three year ones, which is now 5 or the 7.
Really depends on the lifespan of the 3DS I suppose. Since they already did the stop-gap of the NEW 3DS it could be around for a while yet.
Hopefully it won't go like last time.
shudder
Theoretically speaking, Sun and Moon could be the third versions for X and Y, acting as sequels and a new gen at the same time, so there's no need for a third version for them. Plus, if all the rumors are true, there's a possibility that the handheld NX is launching around the same time, so I doubt there are going to be any more 3DS mainline games after Sun and Moon. Of course this is all just mindless speculation. This is pretty interesting.

Some details
So what connection really have the X/Y and Sun/Moon?
Same way a big deal wasn't made over Rotom, or Shaymin, or Keldeo, or Diance or Hoopa or Deoxys having multiple forms.
Isn't that because many of those pokemon (besides Keldeo) didn't retroactively get alternate forms though?
Pokemon Sun and Moon, the first Pokemon games to take place in an African dictatorship.
So, what does everyone want to see from this game?
-character customization coming back. And please give the guys as many options as the girls this time, not 1/3 as many.
-Pokes following you again. I wonder if they could possibly recycle the Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon sprites at all?
-More type combos we haven't seen before, like poison/fire or Ice/bug or grass/fire. Water/Fire that isn't legendary. Poison, ice and bug types in particular need some variety, but electric could use some too. Fire/electric? (ANd I want another water/bug other than surkit which evolves out of it)
-More rideable Pokes that can be used like a bike and not just confined to one area. We got a hint of riding Pokémon in XY, definitely think there is room to expand. Monster Rancher had riding mons (size appropriate ones, not all of them) as a thing like 10 years ago.)
-A new side mechanic to star alongside contests…I personally want Pokémon racing to be a thing (But then I'm the one person that actually played Monster Racers so...)
Isn't that because many of those pokemon (besides Keldeo) didn't retroactively get alternate forms though?
Almost all of those got new forms retroactively. None of them had alts in their first game. As I remember it anyway.
None of them got games based around them gettign new forms though. Not even Deoxys who got a whole bunch of them.
Adding new forms to legendaries later is just… something they do. Same with Zygarde. There was never any real reason to assume he'd be getting his own game outside of Emerald and Platinum's precedent.... and those were some time ago... on the 4 year gens.
!
And the new bird pokemon is undoubtedly based on a Woodpecker. A red-headed class.
What I want to see from the game? I'll settle for more than a logo. I joked about the direct being little more than a tribute. Sadly it came true. I am but a humble servant of GameFreak though. They can have my money.

Honestly, I want to see Type Balance changes.
Ice needs help, as does Poison.
Water could use a nerf. Make it weak to Poison.
I also want to see more variety as you mentioned. More electric, fire, etc.
I also wouldn't mind seeing a change to the formula. 2 on 2 like Pokemon Coliseum, starter type changes, changes to Elite 4 (instead of types maybe strategies like the normal gym in Gen 3), etc
I know none of my proposals will EVER happen, but I can dream lol
Custom trainers is never coming back since that's going to be an XY exclusive thing, which is a shame considering it's a missed opportunity by Gamefreak… but if it's back. I want sets that look like main trainers from the older games.
But then if SunMoon is suppose to tie back to Kalos it'd be stupid not to have customization again.
Assuming that happens
I want to see a Dark/Fairy or Fairy/Dark Pokemon. No real reason, just think it'd be neat.
What would I like to see? Team Executives with more than one Pokemon. Seriously, what the hell ORAS?
I'd also like to see more puzzle-intensive areas, a moderate abundance of every type of Pokemon, and, if this really does appear to be South American like it seems, an emphasis on long wilderness areas separating cities. Plot integration of any legendary beyond the Sun and Moon pokemon would be nice too.
You'd think with how more and more the games are online, that Custom characters would just flat out be a requirement at this point.
Honestly, I want to see Type Balance changes.
Not going to happen. There was a lot of reshuffling when gen 2 hit with dark and steel being introduced, and psychic/ghost being fixed… and they tweaked steel and poison when they introduced fairy, and that was their opportunity to really shore things up, and they didn't. Some of the types are screwed due to them just not having a sensible balance in the first gen when they didnt know better, but there's just no major changing it now. (As is the specialphysical split went a ways.) SOme things can hit a lot, and some things have a lot of weaknesses. Rock and ground are basically the same thing but they have almost nothing in common in terms of strengths and weaknesses. its how it is.
If anything, grass is what needs tweaking. [hide] It and water hit 2 of the 3 same things, but there's only 3 things water's not good against while there's 7 grass can't deal with. Plus, water is weak to 2 things and grass is weak to 5. Its a major disparity between those two, and as both starter types that should have been tweaked 20 years ago. 3 half damage and 2 weakness equals 5 problem areas… versus 12 for grass? (Fire is in the middle with 7 problem areas, but it has a lot of defenses and things it hurts, 10 positives)
So, counting STABS and things they take half damage from as positives, and things they are weak to or can't hurt as negatives....
Normal 0 positive, 3 negative, draw on ghost
Fire 10 positive, 7 negative
Fighting 8 positive, 8 negative, loss on ghost
Water 7 positive, 5 negative
Flying 6 positive, 6 negative, win on ground
Grass 7 positive, 12 negative
Poison 7 positive, 6 negative, loss on steel
Electric 5 positive, 4 negative, loss on ground
Ground 7 positive, 5 negative, loss on fly, win on electric
Psychic 4 positive, 5 negative, loss on dark
Rock 8 positive, 8 negative
Ice 5 positive, 8 negative
Bug 6 positive, 10 negative
Dragon 5 positive, 4 negative, loss on fairy
Ghost 4 positive, 4 negative, draw on normal, win on fight
Dark 4 positive, 6 negative, win on psychic
Steel 13 positive, 7 negative, win on poison
Fairy 6 positive, 5 negative, win on dragon
So... somethings have waaaaay more positives than others, but for the most part, they're fairly balanced in strengths and weaknesses.
Grass, Ice and Bug are by far the most screwed though, with grass having 5 more problems than it has good things, and having a toooon of problems, and bug right behind it.. Normal is pretty screwed too, its main asset is its immunity to ghost when its a subtype and having access to most types of moves.
Steel is by far the best off with 5 more positive than negatives and an immunity. [/hide]
The thing they CAN do to fix those types is to just give them good abilities. Like electric is immune to paralyze and grass to spore moves and poison can't be poisoned. Or the effect weather has on a whole bunch of types. (Rain boosts water and electric for instance… and sandstorm hurt all but three types) Or, just give them some really good moves that have no real counterpoints,
Poison was largely screwed early on by a ton of things having it as a sub type, including many of the grass monsters, types being half poison, thus taking away a lot of its usefulness. 34 of the original 150 had poison type. A 1/5 ratio is CRAZY when there were 15 types. Conversely... 13 psychic. 5 ice. 3 ghost. 3 dragon.
They really had no idea what they were doing in gen 1.
There's other ways to balance an element than just to give them more STABS or less weaknesses... the typing they're paired to among other things. Poison is meant for... poisoning. Doing damage over time rather than hurting all at once. Poison is actually pretty balanced out at this point. Its not a great offensive type, but its one of the best defensive ones. ANd yes, ice not hurting anything but being loaded with weaknesses is terrible, especially now that fairy is around to fill the dragon killing niche. It really should have been tweaked before.
I also wouldn't mind seeing a change to the formula. 2 on 2 like Pokemon Coliseum, starter type changes, changes to Elite 4 (instead of types maybe strategies like the normal gym in Gen 3), etc
Those would all be good but at this point we're never going to see starter changes. Subtypes maybe.
ANd yes, the other battle styles need to be more occuring. Give a reason for building teams of 2 that compliment each other, because you'll have more than one double or triple battle in the course of the game. Adding double battles to t he wild was a good idea, but they only did it in limited, skippable areas, so…
I know none of my proposals will EVER happen, but I can dream lol
What I want to see in this game? Two save states.
Honestly, more than anything in a pokémon game, more than a single save state is what I want. Just so I can keep my first playthrough but still being able to play the game again (unlike X, that I could never play for a second time because I don't want to erase my original game).
What I want to see from the game? I'll settle for more than a logo. I joked about the direct being little more than a tribute. Sadly it came true. I am but a humble servant of GameFreak though. They can have my money.
That's why I said this yesterday:
_"_What is really the difference between reading "we found out Nintendo registered Pokémon Sun and Moon" on the 25th and reading "Nintendo revealed on the direct they are releasing Pokémon Sun and Moon" on the 26th? It can't even be called a spoiler, it's more like reading the manga chapter on thursday instead of monday when it is oficially released."
Because I knew the direct would be exactly the same as the leak: a shot of the logos while a voice announces those games would be released later in 2016. And that would be all. The only difference is one gave the information in text while the other in audio.
You'd think with how more and more the games are online, that Custom characters would just flat out be a requirement at this point.

I agree. Some changes they can do to help some types I've always thought about:
1. Everyone and their mother can use Toxic. I think Poison type mons should have their poison effects cause more damage than non poison. For example, if poison takes away 4 hp every turn, for poison types it should take 5-8 hp away.
2. The obvious one. Hail should boost the Def of Ice types, ala Sandstorm for Rock types.
3. Rearrange stat totals, or add some like X and Y did to some mons.
4. Increase the movesets of mons. A lot of mons need it.
5. Give Ice types their own status move. To balance it, make it last 1/2 the duration of a regular frozen status.
6. Spread the spore love. If the point of Grass Types is to induce status, then give more of them Spore.
