! That's why I said his side won, not him specifically.
! Uh…. no.... no his side did NOT win... Cap gave himself up and was taken into custody, Registration stayed in place with Iron Man becoming director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and pushing his "Initiative" plan, the rest of Cap's team either turned themselves in or became fugitives. At a court appearance, Cap was gunned down by a brainwashed Sharon Carter..... NOBODY on the Anti-Registration side got anything they wanted. It was a complete and utter victory for Iron Man...

I don't think I've jumped into this thread once but someone tell me, what do we know about Spider-Man getting in on the Cinematic Marvel Universe? I might know some things if you know what I mean… But what's been made official in statements? I haven't been following much of anything and I want to be as careful as possible about discussing this.

Will be in Civil War, his solo movies will have a John Hughes tone and they are planning on a trilogy set in high school.
And Aunt May will be a milf.

This movie is pretty, pretty, pretty succesful: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-ryan-reynolds-deadpool-864360
Hopefully, this will lead to more superhero movies that exhange megabudgets for more creative freedom.

I'm just waiting for all the unsuspecting parents to bring their kids thinking "it's just a superhero movie" and then hear the outcry.

"How dare you expose our children to this vulgarity! There oughtta be some kind of ratings board that lets parents know what kind of content a film is going to have!"
"….Oh? There is? Well then...they should just never make another adult superhero film!"
-
! Deadpool was pretty bad.
The jokes weren't as funny as the makers thought they are, except maybe one or two (involving the X-Men).
Action sequences were just average and nothing memorable or even big enough in scale to go against other superhero films.
Sure they keep emphasising how this isn't your average superhero film but it doesn't achieve the special level itself.
It's got blood and vulgar language alright, but to what end?
The villian is just forgettable (like his Transporter flick) except for the fact that he looked like Nicholas Hoult and they just don't put up a good fight.
! In the end it feels like I saw The Equalizer again where Denzel keeps winking and winking and winking until the end credits.
At least Denzel Washington has class.
Just my two cents no one will probably care about. -
! @Tyrano:
! > The jokes weren't as funny as the makers thought they are, except maybe one or two (involving the X-Men).
! I actually thought the amount of succesful jokes were much higher than expected, based on the farfetched referential humor from the first trailer and most of the comics. Lots of great visual gags and a funny supporting cast. Even some references worked well!
! > Action sequences were just average and nothing memorable or even big enough in scale to go against other superhero films.
! Who cares about scale. Not only did the movie just not have the budget for that (and didn't need it), MoS and AoU show that massive battles don't directly translate to good action. At some point it all just becomes samey samey explodey buildings DBZ fights. I thought the more realistic battles fit the character much better (more close combat physical action). Obviously, it's not the beautiful action of Winter Soldier, but then again, what is?
! > Sure they keep emphasising how this isn't your average superhero film but it doesn't achieve the special level itself.
It's got blood and vulgar language alright, but to what end?
! Yeah, it's a very conventional movie. Which is actually pointed out in a lot of the reviews. Very straight-forward origin movie with damsel in distress plot device. I guess it's okay for now since it's the first one, but if the sequel is another conventional plot that pretends to be unconventional by acknowledging how conventional it is, it's definitely going to look hack-ey.
! I agree that a lot of the blood and vulgarity was unneccesary. Even Liefeld admitted recently that comic Deadpool has always been PG-13. But the character has been hijacked by 4channers and people who have never opened a Deadpool comic in their life and are just familiar with the memes and they have gotten it in their head that he's a super edgy hardcore mature character who can only be done justice with an R-rating and the makers decided to pander to them. When you look at the movie's best jokes they could've still worked with the PG-13 rating. Especially since Fox already allows the X-Men movies to get away with a lot of swearing and excessive violence.
! And now the writers are pushing for an R-rated movie based on X-Force, one if the '90s most juvenile comics half of whose cast consists of teenagers. Good luck with that.
! > The villian is just forgettable (like his Transporter flick) except for the fact that he looked like Nicholas Hoult and they just don't put up a good fight.
! No argument there. But forgettable villains are becoming staples of the genre, with only Magneto, Doc Ock and Loki actually being memorable (and the latter has already been Flanderized to hell). But that's not an excuse. And neither is the movie once again acknowleding this flaw in the movie itself. Being meta isn't an excuse to be lazy.
! > In the end it feels like I saw The Equalizer again where Denzel keeps winking and winking and winking until the end credits.
At least Denzel Washington has class.
! I don't think anyone familiar with either Deadpool OR Ryan Reynolds was expecting any class in this movie. It's a raunchy comedy that also has action in it. -
Going to see it on Sunday with ma gurl. Happy Valentine

Fourth wall breaking can be amazing and make the film so memorable but when a film throws it around every 10 minutes, it's a distraction.
And a sense of desperation from the filmmaker making sure the audience know what jokes are being made.
Well everyone has their style of comedy and what's funny so I won't argue further that the film is not very funny.
My full cinema had people howling with laughter which leads me to believe that the jokes do work on the film's target audience.
I did chuckle in two parts but none at Deadpool's vulgarity.
! The film being sold as a Comic Book based Superhero film comes with a kind of unspoken promise that says "We've got some good action scenes with one or two excellent money shots."
Come on, he's a superhero, all he was super was with him taking a few bullets and keep on fighting.
Of course he regenerates but who doesn't in action movies?
Yes a film doesn't need scale, but when it doesn't have creative action choreographies… Scale (aka throwing money on the screen) does help to leave some impression.
! Hmm I wasn't really familiar with the character at all.
I did see the character in that forgettable Wolverine movie (which still does have a memorable chopper vs chopper sequence) and understood the toy reference in this movie but that was about it.
Maybe Deadpool got it right. Somebody did tell me this was a superhero movie.
However, I was also told to expect to see violence and crude humor so I knew what I was paying my tickets for, and it's just not up there.
! Well I wasn't familiar with Deadpool but you're right about Ryan Reynolds.
I guess I was surrounded by the hype and was not impressed. By anything really.
The main issue I guess is that the tone of the movie just didn't sit right with me.
And maybe because I thought Deadpool was unlikable.
If you are into it sure go ahead, I can understand how some might like it.
! [Hangover 3 level of] raunchy comedy that also has [Taken 2 level of action + Blood!!!] sounds about right to me.Sorry I'm not good with making quotes to go in my paragraphs.

! Well if you aren't familiar with Reynolds or Deadpool a lot of the jokes aren't going to make the impact they would if you were a fan of either. The movie takes a lot of jabs at the overall production and everyone involved in the Wolverine origin debacle. The names tied to the opening credits? Or lack of proper names? And then the scene where Deadpool goes to the mansion and basically points out there was no budget for more x-men? I don't think the referencesecond felt forced
I saw Deadpool last night and I greatly enjoyed it. The theater was packed everyone was laughing and cheering.
! Was the movie perfect? Or course not. What movie is? I think it was mostly due to Colossus being very blargh. I get what his role was supposed to be but his overall design bugged me. I'mean 75% sure he was supposed to have the most cliche dialogue. But man it was just a lot of fun despite him. I like whoever they cast as Angel. She actually looked strong which was nice. It bothers me that super strength is almost always giving to the most waif like girl for contrast. Mega Sonic Teenage Warhead was better than I thought. She was definitely someone I didn't know of before.
! The romance part of it was actually quite sweet and weirdly more realistic than most movie super he or romances lol. Woman's day was the best day lol. I liked the tragic story one upping too. Also I liked that she wasn't totally useless.
! I liked that Weasel too. Yeah definitely not going to sacrifice himself was a good choice. Also I liked the cab driver. Especially the second trip scene lol.
! As for the villain. I don't mind that he was essentially pretty standard bad guy. It bothers me when franchises go with the biggest named villain at the start and then kill them. I don't recall if Deadpool actually had a reoccurring villain, but I think it was the right choice to make a throw away guy that could be killed and it made everyone laugh and cheer.
! Also yay for the Stan Lee cameo!
! Overall I loved the action sequences. I found all the fights to be very memorable. The massive destruction in the begining, the hunt for Francis while working on his suit, the zamboni lmao.I would definitely see this. And I definitely want to buy the Blu-ray when it comes out.
-
Ok, saw it last night and (despite one absolutely horrible joke that made me outright cringe) I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDD it!!!!!!!
A few thoughts in order that I remember in spoiler tags below
! - My Roommate and I were already laughing at the very start when, during that deconstruction of that still shot, we pan over a coffee cup that hays "Rob L." written on it. There were ONLY a few people laughing at that, and I was one.
! - I was surprised just how much he broke the fourth wall. Some of my favorite bits of it were when they told him they were taking him to Xavier and he said "McAvoy or Stewart?" and "Funny, it's such a big house and I only ever see the two of you… it's like the studio couldn't afford more than two X-Men!" or ALL the nods to the X-Men Origins Wolverine Debacle... lol... the Toy... Francis being like "I'm gonna sew your mouth shut"... lol
! - The Music was used REALLY well... loved the use of WHAM!
! - Loved Colossus and NTW and their interplay with Deadpool.
! - Even the love story didn't feel out of place, it felt really natural and fun.
! - Recreating Ferris Bueller's post credits scene had me in stitches too.Not every joke hit mind, including one absolutely horrid one that made me want to scream, but overall the movie was very in-step with Deadpool's character and I'm VERY Happy with it. Probably gonna buy it on Blu-ray when it hits.
Might even see it again in theaters.
I would HIGHLY recommend seeing it in the first couple of weeks so you can see it with a big audience. The community feel of laughing together is great at this one.
-

! I missed the McCavoy or Stewart joke, my theater was in stitches the whole time that I'm sure I missed a few jokes.
! You catch Rob Liefield's cameo in the first bar scene? Also a nice nod. Good thing I watched Collider Heroes 2 weeks ago when he was a guest or I never would have known who he was.Overall I agree with Rin. This movie was awesome. I don't think I've laughed so much since the first Hangover movie.
I give it a 10/10. The movie has flaws which others have pointed out and I mostly agree with. But despite those I just loved the hell out of it. Go see it in a packed theater.
-
That movie was hilarious. Lots of Deadpool jokes and antics you can lol at for sure.
! Maybe a little bit too long. In the end, with the romantics (Never saw that coming for Mr. Pool of all the people) and the origin story (Do we really needed that explained so thoroughly?), it was too predictable for a Deadpool movie.
I expected something even more crazy, but I take it as it is. As someone who is sick of movies telling superhero origin stories I had a lot of fun. -
Well the origin was expected, the movie wasn't just for us comic nerds. It was also for the millions more who have no clue who Deadpool is.
-
It's also for people who want more than chimichanga jokes.
-
Yeah, it seems it's a rule written by the very universe itself, that every comic hero's first movie has to be an origin story.
Of all the people, Deadpool can get away with it if he skips that part. Or just tell the audience at the beginning of the movie in one sentence. But as I said I don't blame the movie for that.
-
Oh yeah, before I forget
#Deadpool :ninja:
-
which joke do you mean?
! I'm paraphrasing of course because I've only seen the movie once, but it was when Francis and Angel Dust first bring Wade into the Weapon X Room and strap him down on the gurney
! Deadpool: Whoa, she [Angel Dust] is strong! Sure she's a woman? I'm calling dong.Maaaaaaaade me want to vomit ^_^
Yeah, it seems it's a rule written by the very universe itself, that every comic hero's first movie has to be an origin story.
…. Kinda, yeah.... The problem is, they Can't just make these movies with the hardcore fanbase in mind, there HAS to be some extent of "How do we make this make sense for not-fans?" thinking involved.
Some characters like Hulk and Spider-man can get away with it since the public at large knows their origins thanks to pop-culture saturation and prior films, that's why Incredible Hulk had only a brief recap and a few mentions of his origin and why Spidey can just hit the ground running in the MCU with Civil War, but NOBODY outside comic fandom really knows who Deadpool is as a character. If anything, some folks might have seen the memes that have come out of him, but even then, they don't understand the concept of Deadpool beyond "He's that guy in all those chimichanga jokes I see online".
I think it's basically about how you DO the origin these days, and I think people are wary of the straight up "Half the movie is a flat out telling of the origin" movies. It's obvious Deadpool TRIED to subvert this by starting us in the middle of that action scene and then flashing back, but still, it was your basic origin story regardless.
It's a necessary evil I think, because if you want your movie to have ANY mass appeal, you NEED to have the viewers be on the same page, while still making people who know the story already roll their eyes.

Deadpool just got a whole new level of respect for being as good as it was. $7 million was trimmed from the budget.

Kudos to them, to be honest though I feel like most of the best things are born out of restrictions, still it does take a lot of skill to find the opportunity in them instead of regarding them as chains.

It also just hit me that Deadpool is the only "love story" film out this Valentines weekend too. How To Be Single and Zoolander 2 isn't really aimed to be a couple film, but Deadpool is surprisingly a love story at its heart (superhero with love story attached)

So I saw Deadpool and, yes, it was a great action/comedy. I didn't enjoy it as much as Ant-Man, Winter Soldier, or Guardians of the Galaxy though… A lot of the humor was hit and miss but they flew so many jokes at you enough landed where it made an overall good impression. Action scenes were really well done. That last scene though with the climatic battle...errr...a certain someone should have definitely died. No spoilers, I'm just saying.
The love story and motivations felt genuine so that's another plus. And, hey, the villain was a great opposite of Deadpool so it was a neat clash of personalities. In other words Deadpool and the villain had great chemistry together too.
As for its success I think it's mass appeal is it's so different from other superhero movies. It's anti-hero. It's Punisher with scrotum jokes. Fans are going to see it because they're fans and it's getting good reviews, and casual movie goers are going to see it because they're curious and the movie has been getting good reviews. Also helps that this movie was a long time coming and highly anticipated.
My only major regret is they could have done with a Hugh Jackman cameo...but they didn't.
-
As crazy as it seems, Deadpool is on track for a massive opening weekend. The scrappy R-rated Ryan Reynolds superhero film took in $47.5 million on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Initial estimates saw the film taking in $60-to-70 million over the four day weekend. But the film is now expected make upwards of $130 million. While that puts the film in the top ten of superhero money makers, it is also notable for being the only R-rated title in the bunch. Indeed, THR noted the film’s debut is the highest gross R-rated film ever.
Seeing it tomorrow, if plans hold up.

Saw an evening premiere of Deadpool on Thursday night and I freakin' loved it. Definitely gonna snatch it up on DVD/BD when it hits. I really have to give them props for doing so well on a fraction of most superhero films' budgets. They did a fantastic job with what they had.
I think there were probably a few more F-bombs than were really necessary, but I knew what I was in for so I won't complain. Otherwise, I had a blast. The only jokes I didn't laugh at were the ones I'd already seen in the trailers, but they were just the tip of the iceberg. None of the references felt forced to me. The 4th wall-breaking wasn't overplayed, and even done in clever new film-only ways once or twice. The action was pretty awesome too, very impressive despite being mostly limited to Deadpool's "street level" combat. Colossus and NTW filled their roles well, and I loved how the former served as Deadpool's straight man during the ending.
! Were the hallway fight shots during Deadpool's "WHERE'S FRANCIS" rampage referencing Netflix Daredevil, or was I crazy for being possibly the only one in the theater to laugh at it?
-
Hey, this is actually a good valentines movie date lol. Honestly loved it, but maybe because of the hype/expectation, I didn't enjoy it that much as I thought I would have. #Deadpool
