Considering that to date, we've only seen like 3 long-arms and 1 long-legs, there's not much of a sample to judge from.
2 long-legs. Tamago and Bluegilly.

some have been joking about what a hybrid of a long arm & long leg would look like. Some say human, some say long legs and long arms but only one elbow….
Since my idea of such a hybrid is really not on topic and is a joke... I'll comment on it in the dumb predictions thread
2 long-legs. Tamago and Bluegilly.
3 long-legs.
Tamago, Bluegilly & the unnamed member of Tsuru's unit.

Merry seems more and more like a mink. I was going to say mink ancestor due to the horns… but the pic you give Greg, reminds me that Merry's mouth is more animal-like than human like and his heritage is closer to being one of his parents than farther back.
The main difference between Merry and that girl is that she has a tail and he has that neck ruff … well its possible she does and we just cant see it in that pic.... And fur… she's likely to have fur (I just can't see it on legs/arms in that pic).
Merry doesn't have a tail nor fur except the already mentioned neck ruff.
1- So its possible Merry is half-mink with only the mouth, horns, hair & neck ruff as traits of mink parent.
OR
2- He's a mink that somehow lost a tail and shaves his body.
I'm going for #1 for now..... likely (hopefully) someone mails in SBS ? on Merry and mink blood soon....
I believe it was said somewhere that the Kilo Kilo fruit can only go to 1 kilogram to 10000 kilograms.
Also might be that the kilo fruit can allow its user to weight 1kg but the ton fruit can't go below 1 ton or the user original weight.

then how could he jump that high 0ton maybe

He can't be full mink otherwise he'd look more like the sheep mink we've seen with Nami.
Thus far, seems to be the males are close to their animal roots in appearance and the females have a more blended face.

And Diamante from the Donquixote Pirates.
I think your theory about Baby 5's name is wrong because in chapter 763, page 15, she and Buffalo says that they did tell Law their real names.
And Diamante from the Donquixote Pirates.
His Oda box didn't say he's from the Longleg tribe. And I'm not sure he looks like it either. He does have very long legs but not as long as Blue Gillys. That guy's like 75% legs.
!
He's just tall and thin. He only looked like he might be longleg on those couple of panels where he was sitting in Colliseum and talking to Bellamy or commenting Luffy vs. Don.
You gotta look at the proportion.
Diamante has all the proportions of a very tall person, he has long legs but also a long torso and arms. Like the admirals.
We know he's taller than a regular human but if you shrink him to a regular height he still looks just like everyone else.
Gilly's waist is way above it's "natural place". If you shrink him down he's still gonna have legs so long that they take 2/3 of his body.
Do we count the unnamed one from CP0 as longleg?

Is that really a Longleg girl though? Seems like Oda just messed up proportions there.
I remember a particularly long-legged Nami in chapter 723.

Dunno, but one of them is clearly a Longarm.

You're right, i've never noticed that he didn't get this speficication. All this time i did believe he was one because of the colosseums shots. My bad.
Makes me wonder if Mohji from the Buggy Pirates has some mink genes in him.
But if the mink had spread across the globe long ago and left some hybrid bloodlines, it'd explain a lot of strange features we've seen. Albeit not the more demonic ones (Moriah, Magellan, Hannyabal, Saldeath, etc.), considering that Minks seem to be restricted to fur-covered species. Maybe they were more common across the globe back in the void century…

.
Nah, he just likes to dress as a different animal every week for some reason. (He was a bear, lion, goat and stuff)
As for Merry, I like to believe he is simply a weird guy who likes to cosplay as a ram.

I agree, Diamante reminds me more of the CP6 agent, Jerry=
Very tall, yes the legs are long but in proportion with rest of the body (head to hips being almost same lenght) . In contrast, Blue Gilly & Tamago have legs that are very out of proportion to head to hips length.

I was about to say Magellen doesn't count as his 'horns' are mere decorations that can be taken off. However, Magellen's face always reminded me of a mandrill so its still possible he has mink genes, just not for what many people think
Saldeath… why you think he has mink genes? Its not his shortness there are many characters drawn that short, and again, not for horns as they are decorations. Oda drew ID personel as kids and Saldeath didn't have horns.
But Hannyabal did have horns ..and that chin... has a kid, just smaller than they are now.

Saldeath actually got taller during the timeskip~ and yeah it's incredibly likely that his "horns" are just part of his hat.

D-man
Oops, seems like I missed that detail.
With Diamante it really depends of the panel, but the example previously used to compare him with Bluegilly was a picture that is missing part of his feet.
Here´s a pic where you can see his whole body
But I agree with him not being a long leg. His whole body is thin and elongated.
Diamante is probably from Long Ring Long Land.
Doubt it, his name would have been pronounced differently.
Diamaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaante.

Diamaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaante.
Well it's not his name actually but a nickname as every Donquixote Family member so it's still possible :ninja:
You're right, I didn't really think it through.
Still, the humans of Long Ring Long weren't affected, it was just flora and fauna.

Are we are sure about that though? Because the only human we saw there was Tonjit, and he may not be a native there. :ninja:

We saw him with his grandchildren on a cover story.
Long Ring Long-ians have at least lived there long enough to get used to migrating around. And they seemed to be the only ones there. I guess Diamanjit just isn't meant to be.
come one, we all know his real name is Steven Tyler

can we get an extended explanation about Onigashima and Momotarou for people who are clueless about Japan's culture?
Just read the original tale and it should answer all your questions.
I think its pretty weird to see people who enjoys anime/manga don't knowing about Momotaro in general. Its like THE Japanese Tale.
TBH, One Piece is the first manga/anime I've blatantly seen reference Momotaro. There's more reference to the Monkey King in manga than to Momotaro.

You haven't seen a whole lot of other anime and manga then.
You might better know him as "Peach boy". Or you might have seen a collection of a dog, a monkey, and a bird and just not realized it was related. (The first three admirals in OP follow that theme as well, incidentally)
But its impossible to not know that story in Japan, it would be like not knowing of Red Riding Hood or Goldilocks. Its a super common staple tale, and like, the origin of shonen stories.
There's probably not actually more references to the Monkey King, you just catch the references more readily after being trained on Dragonball. But also Journey to the West is just flat out one of THE four big stories anyway. (Along with Bandits of the Marsh, Three Kingdoms, and Dream of the Red Chamber… though that last one doesn't get as much exposure.)
But that's my point. Momotaro is essentially a fairy tale. You don't generally make the leap from Fairy Tales to Superhero Comics even though they're within a similar realm, Superhero comics today have very little to do with any fairy tales. It's a bit presumptuous to assume any foreign Superhero afficianado would know about common fairy tales if all they did was read comics.

Actually, that would be YuYu Hakusho.
and Dream of the Red Chamber… though that last one doesn't get as much exposure.)
Which sucks, it's the best of China's classic novels.
But then again "monkey man goes on adventure" is easier to build around than "the life and times of a late Qing family and subtle commentaries on Chinese society, politics, and culture and how it affects the family, the individual, and the general human condition".

New column has been up for a few days… Happy holidays and... cigarettes?
One of the best things about these columns is that he can come across a lot of these fine artwork easter eggs that aren't very legible on the current scans us plebes often content ourselves with (at least during the first few weeks).
I don´t know what card game Kaidou could be from, but name possibilities are in that category plentiful.
Canasta
Pinochle
Dominion
Euchre
Solitaire
My favourite would be Asshole or Bullshit, but somehow i doubt Oda will go there^^
Capt`n Poker as one of the calamities would be already my favourite:wub:
(but i sure hope we won´t get someone with the name pokemon trading card game xP)
When I first read 814 I was surprised that Sugita-san allowed the most recent column to run as I intended. I'm grateful that as much as my wild speculation brings up nothing, he also lets me call a few things here and there.
Also, part of me really hopes that's Brook in the bag.

hattifatteners from the moomins
Greg knows of the moomins aaaaand likes LOST
big ups to that
I was thinking Vito's tatooes were just a fancy F and T combined for 'Fire Tank' Pirates, but if Oda's hiding even more meanings with in that he's super crafty!
Excellent column as always, Greg! On the subject of Vito's tattoo, I thought it seemed familiar for some reason so I went looking to compare and while it is distinctly different - it is stylistically similar.

I highly doubt that it is of any importance but hey, you never know what little details will come back into play nowadays.
I was thinking Vito's tatooes were just a fancy F and T combined for 'Fire Tank' Pirates
This was my assumption as well - it'd be neat if it was a double entendre with the kanji.
I always thought that that thing on his revolver's handle that looks like a Crocodile's Leather had something to do it.
