I still see Coby as the Garp of the next Generation (he started his journey at the same time as Ruffy, both have the ambition to become the head of their respective alliance (Admiral and Pirate King), both are the same age and Coby is literally trained by Garp)
Anywho I mostly included them because of the theory I read and was all like "damn, that makes sense". They have a long and rather complex history with the strawhats. Both have dreams and quirks that fit well with the straw hats. Tashigi's dream is on the same level as Nami's. And smoker's ambition is to clean the Marine from all the garbage and have true justice. That's heavily connected to Robin's ambition. And it would also give a reason for the strawhats to change the world for the better ;)
The strawhats were already the reason for Tashigi and Smoker to change their view on the world. It gradually changed from "Black (pirates) and White (marine)" to "the line between good and bad is blurry". I just like the theory. But I admit, Smoker would be an awkward addition. He is still my favorite marine.
Ya, the theory has some merit for sure! I personally love smoker, he's my favorite character outside of the straw hats. However, I see their role being the leaders of the "new" marines, after Luffy: kicks everyone's asses', becomes the pirate king and changes the world.
I think smoker will end up an ally of the straw hats. But, not every important protagonist character will become a straw hat, obviously. There are other important roles that need filling in the story. One being who will patrole the seas after the WG is taken down to round up actual bad pirates. Coby could do this, but smoker is the one who's actually in the same league fighting ability wise, at least for now.
Perhaps future Coby will rise to prominence, and bro down with Luffy but current Coby needs a huge power up.

So, Monet, we are all ignoring the fact, that Monet's heart was stabbed by a shard, that blood was spewing out of it, that no doctor was close to it to sew it back together, that she blacked out and collapsed basically instantly (it was dragged out in the show for dramatic effect, but she was 1 cm away from the button, then was stabbed and then was uncapable of pressing the button) and, I don't know if I remember correctly, didn't the building collapse afterwards?
Sure, Peru survived a huge explosion, but in the end, maybe Peru hardened his body using master hardening haki and he wasn't shredded to pieces like Batman. Sure, Law was shot multiple times upfront without any chance of evasion, but maybe doflamingo just didn't hit any important organs because of plotarmor and the OPOP fruit. But Monet was stabbed through the heart and the blood was all spew sprew.

I was hoping someone would bring this up seriously!!! I'll share my thoughts.
1. no OP villain has died in one piece, throughout the entire story.
2. Whenever a character has died, Oda doesn't leave any doubt.
3. Monet's heart was stabbed, no question about that. However, in the next related panel the knife is shown in the ground.. suggesting she might not have been stuck very deep.
4. Ceasar also passed out right after he did it, further emphasizing he may not have gotten the job done correctly. Characters in one piece have receive serious wounds all the time and lived to tell about it. Law should have been dead minutes after losing his arm, yet one piece logic prevails.
5. Monet is a logia type, it's unclear how Law's ability effects these abilities on her heart but the explosion probably wouldn't have effected her. being within a specific room could have saved her from the poison gas, or she could have used her DF to block it if she regained consciousness temporarily.
All this adds up to it being likely Monet survived, and gives us at least some explanation.
