The teaser is so teasery I can't tel if it's true. But as I've tried googling about a possible next movie and not found anything then surely if this was real there would be some internet chat going on about it? I hope it is really a teaser but in all honesty I am highly doubtful.

Trust me. I know the feeling bro. And until it's announce from Toei themselves, I'm afraid that it's busted!

Nami in trouble, again?

Just completed the Sabaody arc :(
I feel sad.
Going to stick with the anime for now with the Impel Down and Marinford arc(which I was going to skip through and read the manag for instead) but I feel sad because things are forever changed and I won't see the crew in this form again. From the point Usopp rejoined the crew it has been for me the best the crew has ever been. The cohesion just worked perfectly for me and it was all to brief. Could have done with some more crew development with Brook before the split. Another 50-100 episode ideally. But it is what it is. I have the rest of the pre-time skip to go with Luffy and the timeskip changes might be good too. But I will greive a little for my favourite time in the entire series. -

Are the episodes weekly? Considering I only realy started a month or so ago and still playing catch-up I've not had to deal with the waiting for new episodes just yet.

Yes sir. As weekly as the manga chapters. Muahahahahah!

A week is such a long time :(
I might start the anime from scratch when I get caught up.
Oh and 'tis Ma'am or Boss to you :p–-
Also been reading Fanfiction on One Piece as well just for some variety and I'm overall disappointed. The quality of writing is awful. I've gone through every story on AOOO and FF.net. So. Many. Self. Inserts. I've found like 5? decent length stories I've enjoyed and about 20 or so really short things that have been good. That's around 25 stories out of over 30k. Get better odds on the lottery. Usopp needs more love in them.

Or you know, start the manga from chapter 1.

Remember, whereas with manga and novels and stuff you generally need to be good enough that the publishers actually think your story would be profitable… But fanfiction anyone can do. And most people who do make them are typically rather young, have limited writing experience, and are probably just writing as a form of wish-fulfillment. I mean, I read fanfiction myself, (I have a Youtube-channel dedicated to it) but I recognise that most of it is crap and tend to just read the ones that are hilariously bad. Or, more often than not, jokes. Like this little bit of One Piece/Bleach fanfiction that manages to be so perfectly offensive towards OP-fans that I can't possibly imagine it could ever be anything but a deliberate attempt at trolling.
-
I'll probably get around to reading the Manga as well. Just not been in a reading mood lately.
Sadly yeah Fanfiction is mostly written by young girls who want romance and to pair up all the male characters together and just generally write poorly subtled self inserts. It is amusing most of the time at how awful a lot of it is. I'm juist gutted that One Piece seems to have a higher number of these sorts of writers then other Fandoms I've come across and that it isn't as popular as something rubbish like Inuyasha or dul like Naruto. And what did I just watch… :o
--
Despite posting a little while back about skipping the anime arcs of Impel Down and Marinford I've decided to give them a go and I'm glad I changed my mind/got my mind changed. So far just done Impel Down which was quite fun actually thanks to Buggy (he now adorns my list as my favourite NON straw Hat) and I got to see Luffy do Haki.
I still miss the Straw Hats together though. Sanji I... Sanji's mini adventure brings back terrors of 4Kids Sanji. He didn't look so bad with the pink dress and light pink lipstick. But the final transformation to Miss Sanji is terrifying in a hilarious Joe Pesci way. And poor Usopp. Fat Usopp makes me super sad. Usopp is my obvious favourite character but if he was fat Usopp from the start he would have been my most hated character. Ugg glad it's only briefly.

Sturgeon's law is at work here, like with any medium. It's just that it's much harder finding that worthwile ten percent when it comes to fanfiction.

I understand, but would reading the manga in color help? The team that works on that project does an incredible job (they post here) and I can't wait to re-read the entire series in color.

P.S. You can read the entire series (from 1-700) in colour now.
Just with all the lameness that came from Null's translations in the 30s. At the very least, it's as good as the black/white collection that's been around for a while.

A little question for everyone who is up to date, or has seen at least a few hundred episodes - how did you get up to speed on the anime, and how long did it take?
I think it's fair to say the anime has A LOT of episodes, so watching 600+ episodes plus a new one every week is no small commitment. Does/did anyone have any kind of strategy for doing this?
I started watching One Piece online around mid-2011, though as my PC at the time was an ancient Windows XP computer and I had no laptop, I could only watch it sparingly. I stopped for a bit around episode 60, because my ancient computer was prone to switching off randomly. I had a plan, however, for getting up to date once I was able to carry on watching.
Christmas 2011 I got my first laptop. One of the first things I did? Carried on watching One Piece, of course. I got to episode 100 and that's when I started my plan for getting up to speed;
I would watch 10 episodes a day, every day, until I had seen another 100 episodes; this generally meant 5 episodes in the morning and another 5 in the afternoon/evening. Laziness often overtook me and some days I would only watch 6 or 7 (which would mean the next day I would only watch 3 or 4 - I was also watching it in blocks of 10 so I could easily keep track of where I was up to) and some days I would just not watch any, but I was aiming to keep watching them in blocks of 10 until I had seen 100.
When I had seen 100 episodes, I would have a week's break where I'd just either watch other things or nothing at all. After that week, I would carry on watching 10 episodes a day until I had seen another 100, then I would have another week's break, and so on and so forth until I was up to date.
This got me up to speed in a few months. Was it arduous? Yes, but not as much as you'd think. I was speeding through it, but I was also doing it at my own pace. By the time I was up to date, it was the Fishman Island arc, so ever since then I've just been watching it weekly. It was a lot to do in a short space of time, but it got the job done :)
Anybody else got any similar stories?

I started watching in late 2006 on a streaming site that I think was called AnimeEden if I remember correctly. They had up to about the Alabasta fights available for streaming, and everything after that I downloaded (this was a while before I was really familiar with torrenting), jumping from subbing group to subbing group. I'd usually just watch three episodes here and there, but I did have a few massive binge sessions (I finished the entire Kuro arc and the majority of the Baratie arc in a single day, and ended up finishing all forty-some episodes of Alabasta in a week). By summer 2007 I was on Skypiea and I ended up catching up to the weekly airings by the time the Ice Hunters arc was starting in fall 2007. I started following the manga week by week starting with the chapter where Oars was finally defeated, which looking at the wiki was at the start of December. So all told it took me about a year to get all caught up.
It was a pretty memorable experience, but I don't think I have it in me to do something like that again. Recently I've been trying to marathon all the Gundam shows I haven't seen, and in addition to just not having as much free time as I used to I've been having to take the occasional hiatuses to avoid burnout. Just getting older, of course.
-
Well I'm still almost 200 episodes behind being uptodate but it's taken me around a month or less to get up to the Marinford Arc. Yes I've been marathon One Piece like mad.
Gah coming up to the Post war arc and reading the write up of some episodes it looks VERY tedious. 26 episodes is too much.
-
I used Hulu to catch up to Episode 205, then switched to WatchOP to fill the gap at the time (all the way up to 391, and I unfortunately didn't know about anime torrents at the time). Then I watched on Hulu from there, all the way to the latest episode at the time (513). I then quickly caught up to the manga and began to read starting with Chapter 644 (the Red Hawk chapter).
In terms of binge watching… I definitely did a lot of that. Enies Lobby and Skypiea were finished after only a few days of watching, and I watched all of Thriller Bark in one sitting. It took me about 3 months to catch up, since there were some slow spots for me due to the anime's awful pacing.
I don't think I'd ever be able to watch an anime at the speed I watched One Piece again though.

take my advice.. read the manga after TS.. one piece has always had a slow pacing.. but after the TS it becomes very obvious..

I think that's why I'm struggling with Marinford so much though. Lots of fantastic fights but very little character interaction. -

They cut out filler scenes and padding, thus improving the pace of the series and the watching experience ( at least for me ) a lot. You should really give it a chance.

Are threads temporaily stopped in the anime and General One Piece forum sections? It says access denied when I try to make one.
Anyway I wanted to make a thread to discuss Jung/Myers Biggs typology on the characters of One Piece.
I've done an attempt myself using the Straw Hats. And I've found to my surprise that I've given Luffy, Brook and Franky the same results.
Also ironically apparently ISTP and ENFJ types are the least compatible to each other. I read this AFTER i sorted the characters out. Certainly explains the Zoro/Sanji rivalry lolLuffy: ESFP (The Entertainer)
Zoro: ISTP (The Virtuoso)
Nami: ENTJ (The Commander)
Usopp: ENFP (The Campaigner)
Sanji: ENFJ (The Protagonist)
Chopper: INFJ (The Advocate)
Robin: INTJ (The Architect)
Franky: ESFP (The Entertainer)
Brook: ESFP (The Entertainer) -

…
Anybody else got any similar stories?
Haha, yeah, actually! But I caught up with One Piece via both the anime and manga simultaneously, so I'll just tell my whole story.
I started with the 4Kids dub in September 2004 (it came on after the premiere of the new Sonic X season, I believe) and kept up with it. Eventually it was added to Toonami in May 2005, I think? I remember they started from episode 1 and they aired two episodes every Saturday night so they eventually caught up and surpassed the 4Kids broadcasts. Since I only kept up with the 4Kids dub I didn't know much about what happened beyond it but I heard about Chopper and was super excited to see him show up. The whole time though I was told how bad the 4Kids dub was by a friend (I never liked 4Kids due to what they did to their shows, but I watched their One Piece dub casually anyway) so in summer 2005 I finally decided to check out the Japanese version. I torrented the Defeat the Pirate Ganzack OVA and I really liked it! Soon after that in late summer 2005 I began torrenting from Kaizoku Fansubs, and slowly but surely caught up with the anime by November or December (even though I had to hop around with different fansubbers). I think it was the episode when Luffy and Usopp fought over the Merry (episode 236). Around this same time, the 4Kids dub was taken off 4Kids' block so it was a Toonami exclusive. Even though I didn't care, I thought that was neat.
I remember I started reading the manga ahead of the anime during Enies Lobby and was excited to see Coby again. Then Thriller Bark happened shortly after and Brook became an instant favorite of mine. I was on and off with the anime ever since because the manga was just so much more enjoyable.
In December 2006 4Kids confirmed they didn't have the rights to One Piece anymore. I was extremely happy, but doubtful that another company would pick it up. I think the UK finished airing all of the episodes and US Toonami was still in the middle of the Alabasta arc due to constant breaks. Eventually in April 2007, FUNimation announced that they got it and said it was going to debut in the summer. That was probably the most excited I've been as a fan. Unfortunately with all the Naruto and other movie marathons Toonami had, the new dub didn't debut until late September. I remember counting the days down, haha… Once the day came, some friends and I got on AIM together and watched it. It was amazing and I'll never forget it.
They announced English DVD sets in January 2008, and nobody knew for sure whether or not they were going to start with episode 1 or 144. Fortunately, it was episode 1! I've been buying them ever since.
Then in May 2009 or so, FUNimation announced the simulcast. That was also really exciting! It was good for a few weeks until their security was absolutely awful which caused an episode to leak before the Japanese broadcast. This upset Toei Animation which resulted in the simulcast going on a hiatus for several months. Fortunately, it eventually returned. I believe Viz coincided with FUNimation's simulcast announcement with a manga speed up, something which I had been waiting years for. 5 volumes a month for 6 months?! Hell yeah!! Speaking of the manga...
I began collecting the manga in 2005 (I even managed to get some first printings of volumes 2 and 3 that say Zoro instead of Zolo), and I absolutely hated how slowly Viz was publishing the volumes! Because of that I had a grudge against Naruto due to its sudden success and popularity, especially once Viz started doing speed ups for Naruto to get closer to the timeskip. The sluggish publication pace for One Piece lasted for a long while, and I felt like we were stuck in the Alabasta arc for years (I remember at one point there was a gap of about 11 years of content between the English and Japanese volumes). Eventually we got our manga speed up for One Piece in 2010. Even though I was all caught up, I had been anticipating owning these volumes for years.
I also wanna say that the hype for Strong World in late 2009 was great. We had no hints of the timeskip whatsoever, that is until Oda said "[Strong World] will be Luffy's last adventure as a 17 year old." Everyone here was perplexed, but we knew something big was about to go down. Good memories…
I stopped watching (and defending) the anime all together during Impel Down. It's just an inexcusable mess. I still really like the series and keep up with the manga, but I don't feel biased towards it as I did before, which makes me feel like I now have a healthier approach towards it.

Back when i got into the manga, the anime was in Alabasta, but i didn't learn about fansubbed episodes until 2003 - i remember the very first weekly raw i downloaded was episode 184, but subbing was up to 70 or so. Still, it took me about two months, and Kaizoku-Fansubs was wrapping Drum when i finally caught up with them. Sure i had no idea i would still be watching it 11 years later.
I have so many things to watch these days that i REALLY don't know if i would have the energy to catch up, and most definitely not the time. It would take me years and i'm too anxious for that now. But anyone willing to take it easy, trying at least one episode every day, and binge watching when there's time, can pull it off.
@Galaxy:
and I watched all of Thriller Bark in one sitting.
Jesus Christ, how did you watch 45 episodes in one sitting?
I think the best i could do at a time was 8 episodes. Maybe you meant Sabaody?

I think it's possible with breaks for toilet and making food. I got through the entirety of the G-8, Long Ring Island Arc, Foxy arc and up to the Revenge fight at Franky's place in water 7 and a bit afterwards in one session. Of course I spent the entire night watching the episodes. So about 8 hours or more of One Piece. I couldn't sleep anyway so though I would be productive :D
-

Nope, it was Thriller Bark. Sabaody was done in one sitting as well though.
Skipping the opening, recap, and preview makes each episode be ~18 minutes, give or take. So for 12-15 hours I blazed through the episodes, while taking small breaks to use the bathroom and eat.
This was the summer after ninth grade though. I probably couldn't do it again (although I did come close by watching half of the Chimera Ant arc in one sitting).
-
I'd say it takes about 3 weeks and that's if you have loads of time on your hands. It took me over one week to watch up to the end of Enies Lobby back when I decided to watch it after reading the whole manga.
If you, say, watch 30 episodes a day, it would take you about 23 days to catch up (assuming you watched every bit of filler too).
And 30 eps per day is a lot. 20 per day and you'd spend well over a month to catch up.

There's a good chance it's gonna coincide with the beginning of the flashback, but don't hold your breath, they never made anything landmarkish, and long running action shows usually don't care about episode count, anyway.
The closest thing to a special episode was 400 - "Roger and Rayleigh", but that was probably just a coincidence. -
Yeah, they won't. What will be there will be wherever their schedule falls.

Ration? I've tried that to make it last longer but I just can't stop watching the show. I think I'll rewatch the movies once I'm caught up and the few episodes of the Goat Island arc I skipped. May rewatch the anime again in One Pace mode too

what was supposed to happen in the manga? There's always been this doubt, if it was Hajrudin who dropped the boulder to block Trébol's attack or if it was Robin's doing. The anime took sides, but it's Toei, so. . .yeah. Not gonna trust this to be canon.
What's the general take on that?

I'm pretty sure it was Hajrudin anyways, even in the manga.
On the page before, Trebol sends his attack towards Robin. Then Hajrudin yells out "Hold it!", the boulder drops, and Trebol and Robin are shown surprised at the giant's presence.
