@Robby:
What is it specifically thats pulling everyone in thats different from all the other shooters out there? The art style? The teleporting through paint? The paintball mechanic?
I've only watched it a bit here and there and small snippets aren't selling me on it. Is there more if I watched full 20 minutes matches? Does it play really different than it looks? Is it just other people are bigger shooter fans than I am?.
I haven't exactly followed the news and updates regularly, watched some of a few matches. (Largely because my even potental interest was nonexistant to not having the console. And now I have one.) Its still basically new to me.
Compared to say, Mario Kart or Donkey Kong or Xenoblade which I know Ill get eventually and already know.
I can speak for my part and just the fact that the foundation of the game is really solid. Gameplay feels fluid and comfortable, and the mechanic of the turf war means that different strategies and playstyles will come into play. It's a very active type of multiplayer game, and makes other shooters I've played seem much too passive now.
I can also say that a lot of people are hooked merely on the design. The artstyle, the music, the characters, it all feels fresh and colorful and alive.
Like I would definitely recommend it and I see this game and mario kart (and to a lesser degree smash) as must haves for the console. But you should definitely try it first before getting it if what you see so far does nothing for you.
edit:
To piggy back on galaxy, there's actually a crapton of faults with this game. Mainly the fact it's technically still not complete and you can notice that 75% of development was just ironing out the concept and making it work. But that's good in a way, because even with content not being as extensive and you would want, the foundation is extremely solid and what keeps you coming back.

Also, it's currently 6 maps now, a new one was added today.
