@Jazo:
What does this even mean?
You have Korra, who acts like a male most of the time, and Asami, who's pretty much useless through most of the series, and is forced into a relationship at the end to gain significance. Other than that you have mostly male protagonists and antagonists.
That's just Korra's personality, it still is irrelevant since she's still a female and still an important character who does alot of fighting. Asami isn't useless, she invented alot of things that people used to fight with. She even took control of her Dad's corporation. She even beat up a bunch of earth kingdom guys who were trying to 'steal' gold from the queen. She's been in plenty of fights, and used the equalist glove. She helped invent those flying weapons, the humming birds in the final season. I'll give you that the relationship at the end was a bit forced, but that was fanservice because fans often shipped Korra and Asami and thus irrelevant to the fact she'd shown significance numerous times.
The state of the world makes it easier to incorporate female characters as well. And do you think anyone would've watched Korra, if she was like Asami? I don't think so at least.
Additionally this was meant for a western target audience, which makes the series harder to compare.
considering the amount of eastern influences in the series…and the fact that people are people..I don't see the relevance to your arguement. Women being portrayed well is a big deal regardless of what country they are from.
Give some popular examples then.. This is the most successfull manga in history, so obviously it is doing something right.

I remember reading somewhere he did it all alone. But then again, I know nothing abut drawing manga. But still, with how many breaks he takes, and how little he sleeps, it looks like he could use some more help. But I don't know if that would mess up the consistency of the backgrounds.
I know it's fanservicy, which can be annoying. But Freezing portrays strong and powerful women fighters, I'm just saying. Not sure what genre it is.. Though I also admit, the men aren't as important. Jeez..manga and anime wise it's hard to find any that portray women well and not at the expense of the men. In fact it's what bothered me about Naruto and DragonBall Z. They seemed sexist to me as well, in regards to how useful or not useful women were portrayed.
@Verus:
A) Just because something sells, it does not mean it's good. Naruto being the best example of that. One Piece is actually good in many things, so it has that going for it. It has some great art, some great designs, some great characters, some great plots. It does not mean that there aren't things that are done better in other manga.
B) On the top of my head, Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Magi, Assassination Classroom, Seven Deadly Sins, Shokugeki no Souma, Neuro… I'm probably missing something obvious.
Soul Eater is agreed. FMA…eh...arguable. Attack on Titan I'll give you. Never seen any of those other ones..oh and... Gintama I saw only a little of.
@Doffy.:
Haha what ? Attack on Titan portrays women well? Umm stacking boobs on a male character does not make your female character more "interesting" by anymeans . Misaka is basically a male character in form of female . And that doesn't make for a "good" portrayal of women in any way .
Whether or not she is feminine enough to you, Is irrelevant. If she's a woman she's a woman. Even if she acts "like a man" to you. She's a strong woman and that's what was asked for. Now if you want a strong FEMININE woman that needed to be specified. And also how feminine do you want? Chichi I'd argue is still very woman like for example but she is a physical fighter as a martial artist. (Sadly she isn't all that useful compared to anyone else but I was just giving an example of a woman who you might find feminine but somewhat masculine…course hard to tell with you since you rudely just call them men)
