…Well, now. Looks like Sony and Marvel Studios will be sharing Spidey!

Awesome that it's finally going to happened.

SO FREAKING EXCITED ABOUT THIS!
Spidey Back in the hands of Marvel is a VERY good sign! Sony are still doing the Solo movies, but did you notice? Kevin Feige is a producer on the solo Spidey flick!
This is ridiculously awesome! Now if only Fox would pull their heads out of their… hmmm
-
Totally agree with you on that Fox thing. I'm hoping this means we get to see some of the other Spider-Man related characters in the Marvel movies now (Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) ).
-
Miles Morales anyone?!
-
Hello Sony, time to give Spider Man back
-
Nah, Sony can keep Spidey all they want. They can bankroll films and make money off of them, long as Marvel gets to help with the creative direction and make use of him and supporting cast. That's the best possible outcome for everyone.
It also means Marvel won't be spending 1/3 of their regular film time making SPidey movies at the cost of other characters. They never would have pushed forward some of their B and C stringers if they had Spidey to begin with, nor would they ever stop giving him movies… and as a studio they can only make so many films.
So Sony doign Spidey means we can get Guardians and Ant-Man and Captain Marvel and Black Panther. If they had to deal with Spidey, at least one of those surely would not have been greenlit... at least not so soon.
Now if Fox would jus tlet them use Fantastic Four characters like Doom and Silver Surfer, we're great. (Fox can keep X-men, that's actually WAY better off on its own)
THE INTERESTING THING ABOUT THIS HOWEVER IS that it's bumped back the schedule on most of their movies. Avengers 3 and 4 are keeping their slot, but everything else has been pushed back six months. (Though Captain Marvel is still between the Infinity War two parter, Black Panther will be too... which might be the best thing for both of them. The unknowns wedged between two guaranteed blockbuster advertisements?)
Here's the full list. Updates are in bold.
Avengers: Age of Ultron: May 1, 2015
Ant-Man: July 17, 2015
Captain America: Civil War: May 6, 2016
Doctor Strange: November 4, 2016
Guardians of the Galaxy 2: May 5, 2017
Spider-Man: July 28th, 2017
Thor: Ragnarok: November 3rd, 2017
Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1: May 4, 2018
Black Panther: July 6th, 2018
Captain Marvel: November 2nd, 2018
Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2: May 3, 2019
Inhumans: July 12, 2019Obviously its too late to fit Spidey into any real role for Avengers 2… but there is time to fit in some sort of cameo...
(presumably whatever direction they go, they WON'T be giving us a third origin story)
-
The stinger for Avengers 2 will feature J.K. Simmons on the phone rejecting a story about Ultron and instead running a front page expose on some new vigilante that keeps petty crime off the streets with a weird web-like substance.
-
(presumably whatever direction they go, they WON'T be giving us a third origin story)
I think they would probably go with a similar route as The Incredible Hulk did, have slightly ambiguous ties to the previous, non-MCU movie.
-
I have a feeling that Spider-Man will make appearence in ether the post credits in Avengers 2 or Ant-Man.
-
That would be hilarious and awesome.

But . . . . but . . . . . her movie still comes out before Avengers 3 par 2! She can still make it!
But seriously why the hell is this pushing back the schedule of their movies? Marvel isn't actually making a Spidey movie, they're just contributing a bit to one of Sony's.
-
So, what are the odds the Batman vs Superman trailer drops in the next day or two now?
T
But . . . . but . . . . . her movie still comes out before Avengers 3 par 2! She can still make it!Yeah, I didn't look too closely. Its still there, just Black Panther is also there now as well. I edited my post.

Because previously Spiderman and Thor 3 were coming out on the same day. And now… synergy.
Spidey crossing over is just gravy really, the real benefit is we're probably gonna get better Spidey movies now.

.Very good odds Now but does it really matter now at this point?

Provided the last five haven't burned people out on any future films.

Provided the last five haven't burned people out on any future films.
Most people seem to love Spiderman 2 as a near perfect film (I don't), and despite 3 being almost universally hated it made like a billion dollars. And the reboot got the benefit of the doubt and did well in its first film. It wasn't until the most recent one that people finally seemed legitimately burned out on the approach being taken, and even that film did okay… just not enough to launch a spinoff franchise as Sony had hoped.
The next one probably won't do as well as the highest grossing ones... but I think as long as its good and gets positive word of mouth a Spidey film can and still will do well.
More so if you randomly throw some other Avenger into it.
-
While I am of course excited, I also feel bad for Black Panther. And I hope they wont screw up Cap 3 in a rushed attempt to adhere more to the (bad) comics.
And will the Inhumans sit Infinity War completely out? Poor agents of shield will probably end up wheel-spinning again…
But still, cool to see him Home! Now wheres the new Ghost Rider and Blade movies
-
@Daz:

Well, he's going to first appear in other stuff anyway, and his solo movie will now be after Infinity War 1 helps to hype him up.
It's only a six month delay, but that may actually be way better for his solo film… thats the best kind of hype money can buy.
-
Hmm so it LOOKS like they are recasting Spiderman which makes me wonder if that means that Garfield is TOTALLY out or if Sony is still intending on using Garfield for future installments (aka the possible Sinister Six and Amazing Spiderman Movie 3) but not for the Marvel collaborations. I'm gonna go with the former and presume they'll pull a Edward Norton/Mark Ruffalo thing.
Though interesting to hear they will be integrating some MCU content into Sony's Spiderman universe. I hope that means somewhere along the line after the Civil War stuff, someone is thinking about doing a Thunderbolts film.
-
The impossible has been made POSSIBLE!

Found this…
Stay gold.

For once, some good news to wake up to. Very excited by this.

I just hope they won't play down the newcomers, and whatever roles they were intended to play in Infinity War as a result…one of the things I love most about Marvel, is how they've made me care for characters I've never given a crap about; Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Guardians...at this point, Spidey is old (but loveable) hat, and I'm still overall more excited to see the new stuff (Ant Man, Strange, Cap. marvel, panther, Inhumans).
But if they can balance it out and resist the urge to cram Spidey down our throats, then all's good -
You think this was DC reaction tonight?
-
-
Wow consider me surprised that this happened most of all with a japanese company(despite that most of the negotiation would have happened on the american side I'm sure that the japanese side had the last word) that's insane to me.
I guess thinking about it it's not so crazy at all considering Kaz sits at the helm. -
All we need is Ghost Rider.
Or the Punisher. -
If the netflix project endures, I could see Punisher and Blade being good fits for Daredevil season 2, or Luke Cage or something.
Ghost Rider…maybe a cameo in Doctor Strange? I don't know much of his lore, but he's got the demonic/supernatural angle going on
-
Really? I thought that was Fox's reaction.
I think Fox is fine I prefer they keep the XMen kinda separate. I keep forgetting how big of a role Doctor Strange had in Infinity Gauntlet I wonder how big he's role will his movie.
-
This is greeeeeeat news and now I
m even more excited for the future Marvel movies. Only thing I
m not so hot about is Andrew Garfield being recast. I personally thought he was good in the role, but maybe I`m the only one who thinks that -
Hire Donald Glover.
-
I don't know why, but I'm not excited about this…
-
Marvel should just walk up to DC, put a gun on the table and walk away.
Better then getting their asses kicked every other week.
-
He also messed up LOST.
And everything else he's ever touched.
Didnt he also end the Avengers series that was pretty awesome,to start this new awful one, along with the agents of Smash, etc?
…Well, now. Looks like Sony and Marvel Studios will be sharing Spidey!
Thats great :D and like Demon Rin said I would hope they would do the same with fox but it seems marvel was more interested in pursuing Spidey and not the Fantastic Four or the Xmen since I haven't read anything about talks between them.
–--------
Robby you break my heart with not wanting the Xmen :( ( but then again, they would just stick Wolverine in there and ignore the others) but I agree Surfer would make a lot of sense for the Infinity War movies and Doom as a villain in an Avengers movie would be great also.
-
The fact that there will be 3 differents Spider-Man movie franchise is really weird.

This bothers me, because now I have to wait 27 months for Guardians 2 instead the 18 I believe it originally was. WHY YOU DO DIS MARVEL?
I don't know why, but I'm not excited about this…
I'm not either. I'm honestly worried that the MCU is going to go the way of actual Marvel comics and become so overstuffed that the biggest benefit of the MCU (people not into comics could get into the movies without much worry about having to seen every film in the line-up) is going to go out the window. Even if that's not the case, I'm still worried about over-saturating the market. As sad as it is to think about, Superhero movies are just a fad right now, and they're eventually going to slow down; I fear that day will come sooner with the insane amount of projects Marvel has planned in conjunction with everything Sony, Fox, and DC are doing. It's just too much.
But most of those worries were present prior to this announcement, though I cannot say that SPidey now crossing over has helped with them.

If the format proves popular maybe a new miniseries with Ghost Rider, Blade, Daimon Hellstrom and another one (The three witches, Bloodstone, Man-Thing), and then The Midnight Sons.

Not fine that they still have the rights to doctor doom though
-
Hire Donald Glover.
Pfft, Miles Morales (or Black Peter Parker if that's what you meant) are not happening. It's gonna be safe, safe, safe for this project.

Not fine that they still have the rights to doctor doom though
You mean Dr. Domashev? :P

If Spiderman is a post credit cameo in Captian America 3, I doubt we'll get an in depth origin story re telling. I think they may do what they do what they did with the incredible hulk, and have it be part of a montage.

Yeah, that's also what I think.
Another origin story will only make sense if they change parts of origin so they can link it with other parts of the MCU, and I don't think they'll do something like that. -
-
I liked Garfield

Only because the whole "hates and fears" racism thing just doesn't gel with the public being fine with other superheroes. (It sorta orks when Spiderman is also distrusted and feared… but that angle is just impossible to play at any length after 50 years of real world continuity and super heroics.)
They do work better apart than together for the most part.
Though obviously some character crossover is a good thing.

Actually, Guardians 2 stayed put.
Thor 3, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Inhumans moved.

Will this change the prospects of the Aunt May movie?

Will this change the prospects of the Aunt May movie?
I still can't believe that was going to be a thing. What the hell? Even in the movies, she was a background character.
