Fox would save more money by canning the movie and giving Marvel the rights back.
Not really. Long as it hits theaters, it'll probably cover costs at least unless its a tremendous bomb. (Or if they've secretly spent way more on it than they should have.) .
Won't likely make a good profit or warrant a sequel, but… they gotta go with it at this point.
I'm more astonished that they have enough faith in this movie to actually CONSIDER the existence of a sequel.
From the same studio that was, seriously, talking about having an Aunt May movie.
Fox has no idea what they have, just that Marvel's films are making a billion dollars.
-
It's kind of my same feeling with Henry Cavill as Superman. I think he's a decent actor and if Superman had been written PROPERLY he could have done a really good job. But Superman was never even allowed to even freaking smile. Seriously, did Superman ever smile in that movie? And I mean as Superman, not Clark Kent.

The movie's supposed to come out in August, right?
And there hasn't been a single promotion ad, trailer, screenshots….only leaked green screen photos. And then we had a later-confirmed-fake title card.Fox is most likely going to fart this movie out with little fanfare and sweep it under the rug a month later.
-
There was apparently supposed to be a teaser trailer shown before Kingsman Secret Service in February…..but if things are this bad.

Ah, thank you.
And I again credit the second one to bad writing.
-
Superman smiling? Did everyone forget the first flight scene?
He cracks bigger smiles than the Joker.
-
There was apparently supposed to be a teaser trailer shown before Kingsman Secret Service in February…..but if things are this bad.
That previous story was completely overblown.
Simon Kinberg says:“To confirm – Fantastic Four will be doing 3-4 days of additional photography with director Josh Trank and some key cast members. We are very excited about the film and can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been up to. And you will be able to do that very soon as I can confirm here that the teaser will be on Kingsman in theaters February 13.”

Aunt May movie is a Sony thing. Fox only owns X-Men and FF.

Same difference. Neither fox or Sony knows what to do with their properties.
That previous story was completely overblown.
Simon Kinberg says:Well yeah, of course you gotta do damage control once word starts getting around your movie is awful and its declared a flop before they've even released a single teaser shot. (And with the movie only 7 months away… what the hell?)
-

Okay, I forgot that too.
When so much of the movie is overshadowed by the dark and gloomy it's easy to forget the brighter moments.

Now THIS is a trailer that gets me pumped:
Its amazing how much difference a few little tweaks can make

Marvel is announcing something at a live event in new york. we'll find out what it is at 3pm EST
-
Oooookkaaaaayyyyy . . . . . .
-
So they're pulling a new 52-ish type thing?
-
Minus X-men and Fantastic 4 I presume :ninja:
-
So they're pulling a new 52-ish type thing?
It's apparently not a full on reboot apparently do to certain things continuing on…..Like Tony being a Superior dick.

They're going to do something similar to The Flashpoint Paradox with their Secret Wars comic event and that will lead to the reboot.

Marvel has always been proud of its history and uses it as a talking point over DC's… so despite what they're saying and promoting right now they proooobably aren't going to blank slate the universe and start all the stories over from scratch ala the Ultimate line or Heroes Reborn... (since if they wanted to do that they could just do a new Ultimate line... but with a different brand name) they'll most likely just have the big event, and when its all done, streamline things, bring them a little more in line with the movies.
Make Nick Fury have always been Sam Jackson, bring in Miles Morales, keep Spider Gwen around (and erase her Norman Osborne kids) finally take THE SLAP out of Ant Man's history... things of that ilk.. just pull over a couple characters from lines that don't matter anymore and reinvigorate a couple others (the fantastic four?). Sounds like Marvels' CoIE pretty much.
But less of a start from scratch and more of a melding of cross continuity and universes.
But don't worry, most assuredly Marvel has no master plan at all and won't have any real documentation of all the changes so there will be plenty of contradictions and retcons after it happens.
Kinda like when Spideman divorced Mary Jane and aborted his baby and somehow undid the last 5 months of his identity revealed history but without affecting anything else somehow by making a deal with the devil.
Though honestly, it'd probably be healthier for Marvel and DC if both companies did just do hard resets every 10 or 20 years. Retell the origins and big memorable stories sure, but then allow the characters to grow and change in unexpected ways, actually age and be different, or have death stick... allow a handful of creators to set the consistent voice for a line and actually tell a cohesive contained story. (Things the Ultimate line did... for a while.) Rather than just doing these soft resets every 5 years like they've been doing.
-
You're right, this is more of a Crisis deal than Flashpoint, duh to me.
-
…So are we going to get Black Bolts school for gifted youngsters?
-
If this event can undo One More Day, I'll be satisfied.
Heck, with Miles Morales and Spider Gwen around, Peter can be allowed to grow up, be married again, semi-retire, and even have a kid! Be the older mentor character. (Of course he'd still go out regularly as Spidey, but….)
(Okay, that's basically Spider-Girl, but still) It'd be nice if whatever this refresher does, it actually moves things forward and changes things up a bit... rather than what they usually do which is basically rewind the clock 20 years to the status quo from when a franchise first began.
-
Spider gwen?? who's dat? Not that Gwen gal that got killed is it?
Damn! Are they bringing everyone back?
Hey Marvel! You gonna leave Mar-vell or John Proudstar alone? You're bringing everyone else back.…wait have they brought back Prof X yet?
-
Spider gwen?? who's dat? Not that Gwen gal that got killed is it?
Alt universe Gwen. Original is still dead.
Art of the big Spider-multiverse thing going on right now with "every spiderman ever" so there's like 8000 peter parkers running aorund. Its pretty dumb. But people like Spider-Gwen seemingly.
…wait have they brought back Prof X yet?
Still dead this time around.
Not that he hasn't cheated death before with Changeling or whatever back in the 60's.

I wasn't sure what the difference was until the end, and then I was like, that's so Marvel.
But it really wasn't. It was a fan edit.
To be fair to the original unedited trailer though I thought it had a good amount of levity in it for an initial trailer but I can see why it seems so…ummm...dark I guess. I think they're really trying to, you know, amp the movie up a little. Influence people unfamiliar with the product, such as I, to take it more seriously than the name 'Ant Man'. This is a superhero flick. We had 'Hulk', 'Iron Man', 'Guardians of the Galaxy', 'Thor'. All very powerful or exciting names that speak for themselves. Ant Man, that's silly and we recognize that so, hey, let's make fun of it a little while throwing a serious mood on the trailer.

Ah thanks,
Seems in main verse, Gwen, Mar-Vell and John Proudstar are among the very few that stay dead.Still dead this time around.
Not that he hasn't cheated death before with Changeling or whatever back in the 60's.
I hadn't thought of that… it was before I started to read it. Was the storyline with Xavier/Changeling death one of the early retcon of a death or was it planned from the start to be a fake death?
And make things more confusing with Xavier.... its not like this was his original body which was dead due to the brood infection so his mind was transferred into a newly created clone body. (think the original Brood story was early 80s- seem to remember the barely covered Kitty cover was 1984-i think) -
Ah thanks,
Seems in main verse, Gwen, Mar-Vell and John Proudstar are among the very few that stay dead. Also Uncle Ben.
To be fair, Norman Osborn stayed dead for a solid twenty years… he only got dragged back out when they just absolutely needed some way to end the damn clone saga after like 2 years.
And Bucky was dead for a looooong time... but they had a fair point that we were never actually shown his death, it was just implied... and Winter Soldier was one of those stories actually good enough to justify it.
I hadn't thought of that… it was before I started to read it. Was the storyline with Xavier/Changeling death one of the early retcon of a death or was it planned from the start to be a fake death?
Probably a retcon rather than a plan. Just like "Jean Grey was never the Phoenix, that was a being taking her form."
But yeah, Xavier's been dead and come back a couple times. I mean heck, he was killed to launch Age of Apocalypse, and that was undone 5 months later. Of course that obviously was planned.
-
Jean Grey has been dead for 12 years.
Xavier can stay dead. He's an anachronism who prevents other characters from truly stepping up (which is why Claremont already wrote him out in the early 80s). And adding crimes into his past doesn't make him more interesting to read about.
-
The current Spider-man event apparently brought in Japanese Spider-man, who is probably the greatest incarnation of Spider-man ever and deserves his own movie.
-
Sadly, his mecha Leopardon was destroyed.
Marvel is uploading subbed episodes of Toei Spider-Man on their site.
-
Jean Grey has been dead for 12 years.
It helps that they paired Cyclops up with Emma Frost and that's WAY more interesting, that's probably helped keep her dead.
No Madelyne Pryor clones or Phoenix cocoons THIS time around! But they've still thrown her about with Phoenix fake outs and time traveling young Jean and such.
-
If this event can undo One More Day, I'll be satisfied.
This. THIS. 1000 TIMES THIS!!!
I Stopped reading Marvel due to One More Day, so having them fix and undo that will make me a Marvel reader again.
-
"One more day"? Guess I stopped reading Marvel before that….I'm guessing its recent (as in in past 10 years)
-
Stick 'em with the Phoenix.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man:_One_More_Day
Long story short, Spider-Man's secret identity is revealed, Aunt May gets shot, and Spider-Man makes a deal with the devil, erasing his marriage with Mary Jane to bring Aunt May back to life and make it so nobody remembers that he's Spider-Man.
It mainly seems to exist because the editor-in-chief disliked the idea of Spider-Man being married, saying that he was "more interesting" when single (which were, apparently, reasons that were also given for killing Jean Grey and Janet Van Dyne, which also took place while he was in that position). Add to that the main concept that Spider-Man follows being cast aside as Spidey tries to avoid taking responsibility for his actions, every single character in the Marvel universe (including those who can rewrite reality with a glance or heal anything) being incapable of healing a bullet wound, and the story going out of its way to openly insult comic fans (the audience for this sort of thing), and you've got a story that is pretty much universally hated.

Ah thanks… I knew about Peter's marriage -many fans waited years for that-, revelation of secret identity (was that Civil War?) and the deal with the devil to make all forget identity and somehow no more marriage. But didn't know deeper details or what the storyline was called.

Yep this all stemmed from Civil War.
Also I like the X-Men casting.

What year did One More Day happen.. or even Civil War? Think CW was close to when I finally gave up trying to follow any x-titles … which were about the only comics at the end I was reading.

Civil War was in 2006-07, One more day followed closely after.

WEll what a surprise, I was right. I thought Civil war was shortly after the time I stopped reading .
It was about 10 yrs ago I stopped reading faithfully (as in buying 4-6 comics a month) which is a lot better than the fanatically (as in buying 3-6 comics per week) I did in my teens-20s. (but then they were still only ($1.25 -$1.75 average, w/$3 for specials) … now days? can't see how kids are suppose to keep up with stories that span x ammt of titles.

Glad Sophie Turner made it <3
-
Yay! Sophie Turner! <3
Two great young actors and one young Halle Berry.
Don't say that. Please god… Half the reason Halle was such a meh Ororo was because she hated the role at first, and on the other hand, Bryan Singer never liked Storm much.
My heart can't take another Storm that isn't a goddess. I know virtually nothing about this actress, so I have hope.

Haha yeah that was awesome, loved the mecha.

Man I dont like this merge/reboot news I really hope the Xmen aren't gone, there are plenty of Xmen comics coming up but looking at the secrets wars picture, I cant see one mutant.
But like I said, the All new Xmen comics is still going, Wolverines started last month I believe, the new GoG arc with the Black Vortex thing is going to have the Xmen and GoG teaming up, there is also the Spiderman/Xmen comics where he is teaching the kids, Deadpoll is supposed to have a new comic with Evan(Apocalypse jr).
I'm kinda repeating myself but I really really hope they aren't gone they are my favourite marvel series.
As for the FF its kinda weird it seems they dont know what to do with them for a while, so maybe end the team but keep them integrated in the avengers, Sue is an avenger rigth now and Reed is also an avenger part of the iluminati team(so is beast), so just give something to Johnny and Ben.
With the universe rebooting/merging a lot of new storylines can be done though, so it can give a lot of characters new life.
Edit:
Just saw this article seems the Xmen will be part of it, well thats relief.

Darker than Halle Berry at least.
