I've read the first two chapters. It's been pretty good so far but I dislike the whole 'All For One' ability.
This kid said he wanted to be a superhero without super powers and has already given up on that?

It looks like it's going down the Katekyo Hitman Reborn route. All Might = the Hitman Reborn that uses 'something' to awaken the potential inside the protagonist - then it'll end with something like "it's been you all along" .

I did like Reborn up to a certain point and managed to catch the weak ending but someone please tell me that it's not going down the same route as Reborn and Tsuna.

Chapter 1 was interesting, with a nice little backstory.
Chapter 2 was good. The training was sweet but the thought of Izuki getting powers all ready or even at all doesn't sit well with me yet.

1st thing - No he didn't said he wanted to be a superhero without super powers! What he said was, that even if he didn't had super powers he would still try to become a superhero. But even him had serious doubts about that.

2nd thing - It has nothing to do with awakening his power or his potential! It has totally to do with 'All For One' Ability that is the conglomeration of previous Might. The thing Midoriya has to do is increase and add his own Might to that pool in order to be able to use it and also to contribute for the next generation. It his in no way similar with Reborn. Reborn was an Head shot that gave temporary powers to Tsuna.

3rd thing - Midoriya has a totally different personality than Tsuna. Tsuna is the person that was pushed around by Reborn, Midoriya is the person that is pushing himself forward to his dream. Also this is the story of Midoriya path to become the best Hero in the World(This was explicitly said in the end of the 1st chapter), while Reborn was the story of the Mafia trying to turn Tsuna into the next Boss, something that by the end didn't happened because he simply rejected it.

Okay, I haven't read Reborn before. What I know about it is based on what my brother tells me (he's a big fan of Reborn), so I might not be right on some parts but anyway:

With regards to it turning out like Katekyo Hitman Reborn. As far as I know, Tsuna doesn't actually want to become the mafia boss. He was just dragged into it by Reborn, and every time he needs powers, he needs Reborn to shoot him for it. In comparison, Deku has big dreams and ambition in becoming a hero, but lacks the necessary physical ability for it (a quirk, so to say). However, he possesses every other quality that would make him perfect for hero work, which is what caught All Might's attention, and why he decided to pass his quirk on to Deku. With that, becoming a hero was no longer impossible, and Deku was given a bright chance (in his own words: being given the chance to stand at the starting line).

I suggest to continue reading, at least up until he makes it into Yuuei Academy. If you're worried that getting powers would make Deku uninteresting as a protagonist, Chapters 3 and 4 should quell your fears. If you want more of an explanation, there be spoilers ahead:

! All For One is a power that gets passed on from one person to another, getting progressively stronger with each transfer due to the accumulation of human strength. Deku's now amazingly muscular physique is still not enough to handle that surge of power, so every time he uses it, his bones break and his muscles tear. The first time he used it, he activated it in his right arm and both legs, effectively crippling him if not for the recovery girl that heals him (even then, she can't heal him willy-nilly since it uses up his life energy).
! Since then, Deku's quirk is considered a "high stakes" kind of power, and since he still can't control it properly, he's had to find other ways of limiting it. It becomes a matter of strategy and tactics for him to determine the optimal situation to use his power, since it'd leave him mostly helpless after each use, and the rest of the time, he relies on his wit, quick judgement, analytical skills, and trained reflexes.
! I don't know how Tsuna compares to that but based on what I've heard, he basically gets shot and then gains the power to solve everything. Not the case with Hero Academia. Brains are still important here. Also, beyond giving Deku the power of All For One, All Might rarely interferes in Deku's academic efforts and is basically just watching over him, seeing how he copes with the power. He's more Shanks than Reborn I feel…

Fun chapter! My favorite part about superheroes has always been theorycrafting about what they can do with their abilities so I will probably enjoy this. I wonder if the fighting and whatnot will get a bit darker as the series goes on. As I recall the Zoo series got pretty brutal in the aquarium arc

Pretty cool chapter. Midoriya is a pretty smart guy as opposed to Mr. sweaty explosion, who totally got lost in his whole "YOURE LOOKING DOWN ON ME!!!111" attitude. Though I have to say he is quite adept in battle and the suit makes his quirk even more dangerous/powerful. Can't wait until Midoriya makes progress with his quirk and is able to throw multiple punches/kicks. That is gonna make for even smarter strategies to come up with!

Couldn't he do hours of heroics per day?
But even so I believe that the problem isn't directly related with that form, I believe his problem have to do with stress in his body due to fatigue. In the end it is his lungs that are totally fucked up. When he gets to the point of bleeding from his mouth and a lot of pain he can't even keep the transformation normally.

So, if I understood it right, Bakugou was more of trying to intimidate Midoriya than actually wanting to beat the shit out of him (that's why he said "if it doesn't hit him, he won't die"), to keep that idea of superiority. And the fact that Midoriya has a quirk, that's actually really powerful, made Bakugou desperate to make sure he's superior than Midoriya.

I don't know how things develop in the recent chapters, but, perhaps, Bakugou will stop begin such an ass and actually consider that he's not the best around.

Also, I'm loving this.

Oh yes! This is the chapter I've been waiting for! Ice Fire definitely seems overpowered for now. His work is a mass destruction type that had a MASSIVE area of effect! We got a few glimpses of what the other classmates are capable of too.
Kacchan redeemed! His ego has taken a massive hit, but his ambition hasn't decreased! In fact, he looks to be more driven than ever! He's staring to realize that natural talent can only get him so far…real excited to see where Horikoshi goes with this.

I doubt Kacchan's gonna be forgotten that easily. He's basically the rival to Deku. Each of them aims to surpass the other (and everyone else in Kacchan's case).
Basically, a Naruto/Sasuke rivalry that's being built up properly. Except in this universe, everyone thinks Sasuke is nuts.

Ehh blame Kishi for hammering the rival concept SO HARD for more than a decade that they pretty much became the go-to template for rival characters.

Well, Naruto is the "most popular" in the West. I guess Dragon Ball would be the next most recognisable example. Goku and Vegeta.

Because of DBZ abridged, this has led me to believe as fact that the real Vegeta spent most of his time in the Cell Saga screaming about surpassing Goku and so this is a definitely a very fitting comparison/example.

It was the first rivalry that popped into my mind…but yeah, Gary Oak seems a better example.
But I don't think we've seen a rival character who was so full of himself and yet, not well-liked by the people around him (or at least, I haven't...I don't read a lot of manga to begin with).

Hm…this is in regards to All Might's status as a Symbol of Peace, yes? It could cause problems in universe but I personally don't see All Might's status as particularly important. Going by his principles, it's probably more important to stop Kacchan from turning full evil than it is to keep his image.
And Deku is just that honest. It might not be very smart but I find it endearing. Deku still sees Kacchan as a friend despite almost being blasted to sweaty bits.

Yea, Kacchan's more interesting as a perpetually angry hero than as a villain.
Despite how I compared him to Vegeta earlier, I don't really see Kacchan going to such extremes for more power. His ego might be fragile, but as the latest chapter proved, he seems fixated on surpassing everyone else with his OWN power.

Well- maybe if it was combined with a rescue/brainwashing arc, or something more than "Bakugou throws tantrum and leaves to be a Strong Cool Guy since the villains are the Strongest Coolest Guys apparantly".

It's gonna be interesting to see how Kohei deals with a long-running series (assuming it doesn't tank like Double Arts did after a little while). Hopefully he won't get tired of it after a couple hundred chapters.

If we're gonna assume Kacchan turns evil at some point in the story, there are 3 (I think) possible scenarios:

1. Kacchan sides with the villains to gain more power. I've expressed before that this seems unlikely since Kacchan wants to surpass everyone with his own ability.

2. Kacchan leaves Yuuei and develops his powers on his own, fighting both villains and heroes to test his abilities. A bit more plausible; perhaps the most acceptable of the 3 scenarios here. This could happen if he gets too frustrated from not being able to keep up with his peers.

3. Kacchan sides with the villains under the guise of wanting more power but is secretly a spy for the heroes. Veeeeeery contrived and not something I'd like at all.

But I like the possibility that he's just not going to turn evil at all, and will remain a hero with an explosive temper. It just works for him to be a foil to Deku, due to how they're pretty much complete opposites working towards the same dream. I'd rather not have him succumb to the dark side.

Can we really call it an arc though? Felt more like an "introduction" or an "interlude" to a greater arc. Like a foreplay before the real deal comes. But whatever we call it, it certainly was spectacular.^^

! Although I was a bit annoyed at how much those villians mostly sucked. They got beaten up by kids that weren't even past yet their first month of academica! Sure there has to be cannon fodder in the villian faction as well but to suck so badly and have only three really competent ones who are a "danger" to the students yet are unable to harm even a single one of them feels kind of weak to me. I mean, heck, the worst injuries are again Deku and again due him using his power he cannot control yet.
I kind of expected more of the villians, especially the supervillians. At least scare a child so much they drop their ambition to want become a superhero, geez. <_<

Out of these three choices, 2 is the most likely (because yeah, he wants his own power and is definitely too hotheaded to be a spy); but there's also the possibility that he could become evil, but not willingly (whether it's through kidnapping, blackmail, or messing up so bad he gets kicked out of the academy and ostracized).

If we're going by cheesy comic book conventions, there'll probably be a few villains that want to destroy the world. Said villains would definitely want a walking pile of TNT on their side.

Like for example a hero who hits his wife and children at home yet they don't dare to say anything because of his image in the public. Or a hero who sells his looks to make lots of money in movies or advertisy and chose a celebraty life over saving civilians. Or a hero who takes drugs yet says in public that it is bad to use drugs and so on. You know, show heroes that aren't any better than villians and said manipulatin villian makes it such a big deal that Bokugou belives him that being number 1 hero is not worth the title is so many scumbag heroes are already ruining the name of heroes. And that a true hero would be one who gets all those co-called heroes for their misdeeds, etc.
Well, something like that. I like villians who can mind-bend good guys ideals without magics or superpowers just using the power of the word (or media for that matter xD).

1)Not going to happen in a shonen title.

2)Thats the status quo of the entire Marvel U at this point, it feels like, and it SUCKS. Heros should be heroic, not dirtbags. Making them gritty or more realistic doesn't make them more interesting or better, it just makes them… not heroes.
