I have it. I have 1 and 2, I've meant to play 2 because of how much better I hear it is but just haven't.
-
Saw some tv commercials that looked interesting, and found myself thinking "but didn't part 3 JUST come out?" And then I noticed the release date.
Are they really airing tv commercials to preorder a game that doesn't come out till the end of OCTOBER?
Wow, that's crazy.
-
It's actually becoming common it seems. We had Resident Evil 6 pre-order commercials running on TV for almost all of 2012.
-
And people complain that games are getting more expensive to make.
-

Well it's not Last Guardian barring a delay we're actually going to get this.

What if it's like Suikoden 4

What the hell are you talking about? what does Suikoden 4 have to do with anything?
-
Bah, give me more of the Haytham show, s'il vous plait.

Watching that gameplay just makes me wish this wasn't an AC game. The ship battles look really cool but I'd prefer if it didn't have the same old AC gameplay. I don't really dislike AC's "wait until you can do a flashy turnaround" combat but I'd prefer something more aggressive and involved for a pirate game. I also don't like the assassin outfit that they're keeping for this game. It would be so much better I feel if it wasn't another Assassin's Creed game.
-
Agreed. This needs to be an original pirate game.
-
Based on the video presented…I am convinced that this was planned out as a "Pirate game" first with the AC aspect of the game SLAPPED on just for marketing purposes. Though it is probably true...the AC name will certainly guarantee some purchases (in spite of the most recent being remarkably generic ASIDE from the naval campaigns. I'm also not too...keen on the idea of the protagonist being a hybrid assassin/pirate. Just seems weird.
-
I didn't really see enough gameplay in there to get me excited (I didn't know in-game cutscenes counted as gameplay now), but I definitely agree that the whole assassin's outfit feels out of place. I really hope they can at least have an alt. costume that looks more in place.
-
Well he ended up dying haha. This game was great though. I honestly liked it more than the actual AC3
-
-
Russ, who are you and what are you doing?
-
I stopped playing this game after sequence 8 because it enraged me to no end. **** this game.
I really want my Bioshock. -
What the hell are you talking about? what does Suikoden 4 have to do with anything?
suikoden 4 had hours worth of sailing and a high ass encounter rate for no reason
or worse
could be like windwaker
-
….Way to get around to responding to that question.

Hey at least we got some closure.

aaaaaaa
UbiSoft, see that country over there with all the onion domes and crazy architecture and amazing history? That's Russia.
-
I'm so glad we're getting more than one of these every single year now.
Oh wait.
-
So uh, was sailing a big deal in 18th Century France? Cause it sure seems like people only play AC games anymore for sailing.
-
Ubisoft presents the latest entry in assassination missions where you realize that the people you're killing aren't all that bad and that you're actually a dick.
-
I actually had a feeling that Connor's talk with the Marquis de Lafayette was foreshadowing that this would come directly after ACIII. And it makes perfect sense, really. That being said, I've also kind of had enough of the 18th century settings. Plus, even as someone who's loving the hell out of Black Flag, I think it's time for this series to take a break. If this doesn't mix things up in a big way (which I highly doubt), I'll probably pass or just wait a long time before picking it up.

Predictions based on how Ubisoft handled the American Revolution:
- The major figures will have their negative traits made their only traits (Marat will be a psychopath, Robespierre will probably be a Templar, etc.)
- The main character will be angry at a major for a reason that makes no sense historically
- Bullshit HISTORY WAS WRITTEN BY THE VICTORS/SHADES OF GREY DON'T EXIST that plagues these games
- The main character will be an unlikable douche
- Pretense of "THIS IS A COMPLEX SITUATION, GOOD AND BAD ARE BLURRED", but in practice it's a different story
- The Tyranny of President Napoleon DLC
- Smugness
Also, no sailing, no Blackbeard, and no shanties.
-
I'm trying to see how they'll make it different other than being prettier but I can't. It will just be the same. Black Flag's redeeming feature was the pirating aspect(still trying to beat all the legendary ships) and not the story that I only progress in when they force me to.
Still I hope someone reminds them that too much of anything can be poisonous and maybe they should try and give people space to breathe. Otherwise I had hoped we'd get a more unique setting like Feudal Japan but we'll see.
Far Cry 4 though I'm excited about.
-
Where's the American Civil War Assassin's Creed, I want to see Ubisoft reinforce the Lost Cause myth.
-
Y'know, the series started in the Middle East, couldn't they start inching the other way so we could get some, I dunno, Asian background? Even freaking Istanbul would be a nice change of pace.
There's also an entire continent called South America sitting right there.

Well, if they did the Napoleonic wars there was a shit-ton of sailing in that, but as this appears to be the French Revolution . . . . . I don't remember the rebels doing a lot of sailing.
-
Relevant and more entertaining than the AC games

Obligatory angry French mob song.
Actually, having Valjean as the MC would make it infinitely better, but that's pretty much impossible.

Unless he escapes his 4+15 year sentence for a short period of time yeah pretty much

Wrong revolution. Les Mis was the June Rebellion, the main revolution Napoleon was done and over with by that point.

"The year is 1793-4. Jean Valjean assassinates Marat, Robespierre, and other elites of the revolution and is thrown into prison under the premise of stealing a loaf of bread.
Also Javert is a Templar."

…? Did you forget about Assassin's Creed: Revelations?
Not like I'm gonna blame you if you did. It's…not the most memorable entry in the series. And yes, the city itself is definitely a nice change of pace. It's probably the best thing Revelations had going for it.

I know Les Mis is set during the June Rebellion, but where did Ubisoft say this is set in the 1790s? I've seen articles that assume it's strictly the French Rev, but there isn't anything pointing to a specific point within France's 60-70 year period of instability, is there?

The guillotine is a pretty big hint along with it being the biggest and most relevant period of that part of history. It really doesn't make much sense for them to highlight the guillotine in any other period as a public executing device when its pinnacle of usage was the 1790's.

Oh right, it's inextricably linked, huh. Almost forgot that, thanks.

It pretty much is, and the imagery of the guillotine and the tens of thousands of deaths caused by it are pretty much are stuck to the Reign of Terror.

Ten bucks says we cause the rise of Napoleon and spend the second half of the game going OOOOH NO WHAT HAVE WE DONE FREEDOM LIBERTY WE WERE TRICKED NOOOO

Next game: Napoleon is an elite member of the assassin order, and the templar uses the legendary apple of eden, "the Russian Winter" to defeat him.

The apple causes Winter to suddenly appear in June, when Napoleon actually invaded.

D'oh. Yes I did.
I still call for moving East instead of West. I know some idiots would raise a stink if it were set in the Middle East, but Central Asia is interesting too.
-
Well, they started off in Israel around the crusades so there's that. Perhaps they could do some sort of game in Persia and have the main character be some sort of "Prince" or something. Oh, but that would just be silly.
I'm thinking they're holding onto AC China/Japan etc for when their sales for the franchise decline as an ace in the hole, though, considering that's pretty much all the fans ever ask for anymore when it comes to historical time periods.

French video game developers, set the newest entry of
beloveddivisive series that started in the middle east, back in the middle east.Yeah sounds like an idea that would cause a lot of unnecessary drama.
