Tumblr in a nutshell.

That was probably the most predictable and lazy ending ever.
I´ll cancel this manga from my memory from the time skip to here. I save only the first half. Gosh…
Damn son, seems iike a lot of Naruto fans are taking this harder than we are lolll
@James:
Back then as a kid I already realized for myself that what Naruto wanted to be was not "hokage" which is in the end nothing but a title with lots of responsibilities and having to deal with lots and lots and lots and lots of paperwork. What Naruto wanted was a family, friends, comrades. He wanted to be accepted, be a part of a team, a community. He thought he would get all that magically by becoming the "strongest" and so gaining the Hokage title.
In other words all he wanted was somebody to tell "I love you" and add the words "just the way how you are" to said three important words.
Indeed. It appears this is the unspoken tragedy of Naruto.
The story of a boy who was ridiculed and ostracized by his village and wanted nothing more than someone to notice and care for him. In fact, he wanted it so badly, that he declared that he would become the village leader, and that way everyone would love him. Then, one day, he was shown a display of unconditional love and concern by his teacher, Iruka; the boy was elated. Soon, he began to develop bonds amongs the other villagers. First his squadmates, then the other ninjas of the village, and even some from neighboring countries. For a time, it seemed the boy was learning to love and be loved in return.
Alas, it was not to be.
Though he had the care and concern of his friends and comrades, the boy could not comprehend the meaning of his relationships with them. The boy merely wanted the status and attention that came with such bonds and became fiercely devoted to keeping them. So devoted in fact that, when one of them was threatened, when his squadmate chose to abandon the village, he became obsessed with finding the renegade and returning him to the village, all so he could restore and validify his perceived bond with him. Indeed, perhaps the boy had been ostracized so long that he no longer had the capacity to have a meaningful relationship. And his friends and mentors, knowing that they were all partially responsible for turning him into such a state, could only watch as he pursued the runaway for years on end, even neglecting and forsaking his other friends in the process.
In his quest for status and power, the boy grew stronger and eventually even managed to retrieve his friend and obtain the village leader position he so desperately wanted. But still, the meanings of his bonds and status eluded him. Even when faced with his soulmate, the one girl who had loved him above all and before anyone else, he only saw her as a means to increase his status. He married her and fathered two children, but even his bonds with them were lost on him. Indeed, all of these things he did merely because he believed it was the expected thing to do and to enhance the pereceived affection and attention being given to him.
And so, the boy who became a man, and had wanted nothing more than to be loved by the entire village, finally got everything he wanted. And it was all so meaningless.
…..........................
BTW, nice alternate ending. Very sweet.

Their tears are delicious. Now I'm so impatient for a really shitty Bleach ending (Kubo sure will deliver) that disappoints even the last fans
Well, I know that many genuinely did still like the series despite it's flaws.
Yeah but I mean just the sheer level of seething anger from these posts is just overwhelmingly in disgust that it's pretty crazy how seriously they took the shipping
Christ, what a nothing of a final chapter. It might have had more of an emotional resonance if we actually cared about these characters? Instead it just comes off as well these guys paired up and that's your chapter. The biggest misstep in all this is the lack of a resolved theme. Naruto switched from being about hard work overcoming genius to friendship is magic long ago and the whole story rings hollow because of how poorly done this shoe-horned in theme was. It just gives this pervasive feeling of pointlessness. What have we learned, how have these characters grown, who cares?
Also, of course Sakura's ultimate character resolution after being abused, tortured and nearly killed by Sasuke for so long was to become his cum dumpster. No real feeling of growth or resolution, just throw her a marriage and who cares. Really empowering, remember when the female characters in Naruto had the drive to be the peers to the males because I don't? Ugh.
At least this dying dog has finally been put out of its misery.

Oh yeah, that stuff's ridiculous. But I can understand those who geinuinely enjoyed it are sad that the series is over or are going to miss it. Despite stuff like length or what I think about it's quality.

This one in particular wasn't that bad, and it had a point. I'm happy Hinata ended up being the chosen one cause Sakura is simply an unbearable character no matter how you analyze her, probably one of the worst ever. But Hinata's romance with Naruto. . .was nonexistant. There was simply no bond. Naruto never aknowledged her, and even if that's what takes place in the movie, it's still incredibly lazy, and even a bit unfair to your loyal manga readers.
That tumblr user is also spot on on the rest of the relationships: all, each and every one of them, came out of the absolute blue. There were some hints of Shikamaru and Temari, I'll give you that, but the rest? None whatsoever had ANY build up. At all. So. . .yeah. It felt like a collection of random fanservice pairins, nothing else.
Again, the chapter itself is not the worst thing ever, it's better than the war at least, but it suffer greatly by what came before it.

Pretty much. :/
Oh god chapter 700 is the worst thing I've ever read. I honestly thought it was a fake chapter for the first handful of pages.
You need to read a lot more if that was the worst thing you've ever read.
It was a decent ending, just not well served by what came before it.
Even within manga worse endings off the top of my head exist like Yu Yu Hakusho, Shaman King, or Negima. Especially Negima's.. which ALSO did the timeskip thing, but pretended we got to see the final battle, and didn't actually confirm its romantic pairing even though that was a central part of the entire series being a harem comedy.
For all that the Naruto war was dragged out and overlong, at least we got to see it rather than get it all summed up in a paragraph of all the cool stuff we missed.
Funny how a village hidden in the leaves turned into a city with skyscrapers. But that's what ninjas are like after all. Wearing suits, using laptops, all that mystic stuff.
1)The ninja were never the entire village, it was full of civilians.
2)It was renamed the "Leaf in the WInd" village.
Everyone is focusing so much on the kids they're completely ignoring the "world is at peace" aspect.
That tumblr user is also spot on on the rest of the relationships: all, each and every one of them, came out of the absolute blue. Relationships work like that though. I've ended up dating a girl I've known for 7 years, who lives in another country.
If you'd told me that a year ago, I wouldn't have had any inkling of what you were talking about because I never thought of her that way before.
Yes, as a story its nice to see actual seeds come forth to fruition, but as a built world it'd also be weird if every last character ended up with the person that was their obvious match from the time they were 10… .especially after a massive timejump (and a huge war!)
Sometimes you find love in weird places or where you don't expect it, or even the opposite of what you were looking for.
Oh yeah, that stuff's ridiculous. But I can understand those who geinuinely enjoyed it are sad that the series is over or are going to miss it. Despite stuff like length or what I think about it's quality.
Yeah, exactly. Like I get that if you enjoyed it that parting is such sweet sorrow, but like, people cutting themselves from what they were otherwise enjoying because of shipping?
That shit's cray.
I don't think Naruto had a shitty ending. It essentially tied everything together. I don't think anything was really left hanging? Then again, I haven't really read it in the past 90? chapters, only a couple ones which had a really crazy reaction. I only know stuff from comments and such. At least in terms of plot-threads hanging. NarutoxHinata and SasukexSakura makes sense, at least. That's the main pairs.
@TLC:

Still better than Negima's ending. THAT ruined the entire series in the course of 20 pages.
At least this dying dog has finally been put out of its misery.
Dont say that about Akamaru, I'm sure he's fine!
Still better than Negima's ending. THAT ruined the entire series in the course of 20 pages.
…
Yeah, you're right, that series was fantastic and was retroactively ruined by its last chapter. This last chapter was just par for the course for Naruto. A dying cancer patient that finally gasped his last breath.
Dont say that about Akamaru, I'm sure he's fine!
Pfft
I recommend not going to the narusaku sites either. It's a field of wilted flowers and despair. Tumblrs worse….
Yeah, it is pretty horrible. Kind of like you want to laugh at so much despair over a work of fiction but you can't because you know those people really fell that way, betrayed, cast aside, downright depressed, etc. This post here made me really sad:
[hide]
I’m a girl, I’ve been a Naruto’s fan for seven years. I’ve been reading Naruto since I was 12, at this age, I had my first abusive relationship.
He treated me like shit, he told me over and over that I was annoying and even mocked my looks, he lied about me to all of his friends to make me look like his ‘obsessed fangirl’ and in the end I found out he never liked me. This man was abusing me just for fun. He made me cry and feel worthless so many times, he even crated a ‘hateclub’. Yes, this man created a HATECLUB for the GIRL who were abused by him.
I used to look up to Sakura all this years. She was just like me. Underappreciated by an arrogant boy who she really liked. All Sakura ever wanted was to be noticed and loved by Sasuke, however, he treated her like shit. Like worthless thrash. He didn’t give a shit about Sakura and wasn’t interested in her during 698 chapters.
I grew up with Sakura, in Shippuden’s she had become a strong and confident woman (at least until the last two chapters) and she was starting to realize how Sasuke made her suffer. Her confessions to Naruto was fake, but the words weren’t. I wouldn’t care if she ends up alone or with someone, even though I ship NaruSaku and SakuHina, all I was expecting from Kishimoto was a well-writen character development, and he threw that away.
Look at how Sasuke treats Sakura during the entire manga:
Then, in chapter 699 he just had to apologize so she could say ‘sorry for what’? Really, Kishimoto? Not satisfied with ignoring all the abuse, he made Sakura become a housewife. He showed us how Naruto and Sasuke were doing their thing, but what about her development as a medical ninja? Wasn’t she supposed to surpass Tsunade? Kishimoto could have showed us the ‘medical-nin Sakura’ at the hospital with her daughter, but no, he rather make her a housewife.
Sasuke had made Sakura cry and had ben insulting her during the plot so many times. He tried to kill her THREE TIMES. He has strangled and called her useless in the pictures above. That’s how you want girls to be ‘appreciated’, Kishimoto?
I used to always look up to Sakura, I wanted to become a strong young woman like her, I wanted to bloom and become a beautiful flower like Sakura. You ruined my favorite character who helped me getting through abuse, Kishimoto.
All Sasuke had to do was apologize so she would forget about all the abusive things he done to her. That’s how you want woman to be portrayed in your precious story, Kishimoto. You want us to be portrayed as dreamless housewives, it doesn’t matter if men makes us feel like nothing, it doesn’t matter if this man had struggled, tried to kill her and even created a genjutsu where he stabbs her in the chest. As long as he says ‘sorry’ any girl in the world can forgive him and forget about all responsibilities and accomplishments just to ask him if she could join him in his travel and further in the manga she gave birth to his daughter.
Sasuke crushes Sakura’s feelings and dignity in all possible ways and even so, you make her MARRY HIM and not satisfied, MAKE HER BE THE MOTHER OF HIS DAUGHTER and only show us the ‘HOUSEWIFE SAKURA’. Because that’s what we, women, are to you. Walking-bodies with no feelings, who doesn’t deserve to be respected and loved. If the abuser says ‘sorry’ it’s completely okay.
You destroyed my favorite character.
You’re making me feel ashamed of everything I’ve been through.
You dismayed me.
Thank you, Kishimoto, for thinking about all the girls that reads your manga. That’s what you’re teaching them.SasuSaku fans, don’t even reply me, you’re just gonna make fun of my suffering and try to convince me that this shitty pairing isn’t abusive. I hope you’re happy that this crap became canon.
[/hide]
Daaaaaamn….. makes you kind of want to hug some of them and invite them to icecream. Or alcohol with icecream. But yeah, SasuSaku after all this crap....what the fuck, Kishi, what the flying fuck were you thinking... :c
…
So...why is Shino cosplaying as Godot, again?
Naruto as an overall story wasn't bad, but it definitely had issues, a lot of them in fact. The main issues were character management and the original concept disappeared along the way. What made me disappointed was: That I assumed Kishi would give a more detailed ending, fleshing out the characters a bit. Instead, it felt rushed and lacked emotion, BIG TIME. It definitely lacked the emotion, it felt like he said,"Let's just get this over with." There's definitely other stories that ended terribly and despite the emotionless ending, Naruto had. However, it wasn't bad since I got to see him achieve such a level of acceptance from the village and get his own family, but why did it feel so emotionless? In the end, this chunk of my childhood is now on the shelf and I still feel slightly sad(suppose it's nostalgia). The End.
Wow, I hardly ever write long posts.

She needs a hug. You know, if you get really attached to a character that relates to you, that's fine. However, one must remember that it's fiction and shouldn't let it affect you(talking about the one posted about relating to Sakura). The person themselves have the power to write their own stories. Kishi made this with a pen and paper to influence the characters written. That's a big difference.
Shino will never be as cool and suave as Godot.

Hey you never know, he could've started picking up drinking his coffee black.
Or drinking coffee at all.
It got an ending and an epilogue, plus the movie, it's more than most series get, true it got to 700 chapters but shambling and rooting halfway here.
Your favorite character didn't get addressed? Then you decide what happened to them.
Or got into a relationship with someone who didn't made sense? They got knocked up and ninja customs force marriages out of every pregnancy, most missing nin are runaway dads and moms. The black lady got too drunk in the last mardikonoha, sai and ino were experimenting, Kiba always had a cat girl fetish, Lee just made mitosis, sakura claims it's sasuke's but it's really just iruka's. Sasuke is a missing nin again because of it.
Indeed. It appears this is the unspoken tragedy of Naruto.

Man, that's really depressive but that is what it felt to me when seeing the 700th chapter. It was colorful, it looked pretty but all it was was empty of emotions. Especially those kinds of emotions Naruto has yearned for since chapter 1. :c
And thanks for the praise. I really didn't thought much when writing it, it suddenly was there and I wasn't even sure if I should post that kinda stuff here, but apparently I am not the only one who had wished for a more emotional ending that was befitting of what Naruto had wanted to have in part 1. I'm sure that in the next days, week, months even many many fans will write their own idea on how Naruto should have ended. Maybe I will rewrite what I wrote here and make it a short oneshot on fimfic or something like that. I dunno tough. It feels kind of weird to start a Naruto fanfiction now that it ended, though I kind of already did that here, didn't i? XD

Oh forgot to mention Hanzo vs Mifune, one of the most disappointing fights I EVER seen in a manga, a fodder fight in OP was better than this shit.
Ah, it's over. It was a good run.
(dat One piece gesture tho). (I heard its cause Oda and kishi are actually good friends)
The consensus seems to be that it was, for the most part, great in Part I. Then in Part II, it was okay, then gradually reached a pretty damn high peak with the Pain arc, and then went to complete shit during the war arc.
I'm just gonna copy this post I saw from another forum:
"Naruto was bad. You can barely say any character had an arc across 15 years. Kishimoto's writing and treatment of women in his manga is embarrassing at best. Many of the themes kicked off in part 1, which were supposed to be fundamental pillars around which the writing twisted around, were abandoned or perverted by manga's end. Entire characters were forgotten. The ass pulls were formidable and without end.
The actual two final chapters serve as a tomb for all of Kishi's bad ideas, lack of foresight, and perhaps lack of care and subtlety, forever encased in mediocrity. None of the pairings felt believable: for as much sense as they made you might as well throw names in a hat and pair off the two names you pick in a row.
All in all, though, Naruto was a roller coaster of an experience. In my early HS years it was a staple, and I can't imagine how my life would have been if I never discovered the franchise. I'll have fond memories of certain parts, and feel the smallest of pity/melancholy for how much potential it pissed away, but I've long since washed my hands of any negative attachment to Naruto and his adventures. It is what it is. "
The bolded specifically is great
Kishimoto: Using my brand new Shippomatic-9000, we can figure out all the pairings for all the characters.
First pull of the lever gives us… Naruto and....... Hinata. Great. Next.... Sasuke and.... Sakura. Great.
Last is.... Kiba... and.... a wooden log. Aaaand that's all folks.
Oh yeah, and the Sasuke Sakura relationship is the worst relationship in the history of manga.
It's proof of Kishi's lack of planning ahead.

Worser than say Bulma & Vegeta.
I mean yeah we got a cool character out of the deal in Trunks but…...I don't know.
Men this is soooo sad. It's like when Dragon Ball was over =( Tears…
Even if i didn't like that last chapter and how the last part of the story was told, i think that it was an amazing ride.
Naruto is a shitty father who can't even create a clone to be with his son.

No it's not. It's really not. I wish people would stop saying things like that, when there's plenty of other series that have done far worse.
And he planned it plenty ahead, it'd been a regular thing for most of the series. He just thought Sasuke's "redemption" would come off better for the readers than it actually has.
I quite liked this last chapter. It was nice seeing all these characters grown up. Shino and Chouji look baller as fuck as adults. Also it's kind of sad to see than even after all these years, no one cares about Tenten.
It was a fun fanservicey last chapter and I look forward to when One Piece eventually gets its own full colour final chapter.

What an asshole.
That was amazing. Of course I mean that. Those two guys have been through a helluva lot and gone back and forth a LOT during the years. I have my qualms with the story and the 'heroes' and it took 700 chapters but 'Naruto' brought a tear to my eye and it has nothing to do with Naruto.
Sheesh. It feels weird that there's not going to be any new chapters anymore.
Has Kishi said what he's gonna do after this? Hopefully something he actually enjoys.
Ah, it's over. It was a good run.
Thanks for reminding me of how much spirit the art used to have. :C

@Robby:
It wasn't the worst ending if we JUST read the last chapter. If we just look at the last chapter. . .what made Yu Yu Hakusho's worse?
! Yusuke and co. inherit a beautiful piece of land from Genkai, and he and his longtime love interest hug each other in the beach during sunset.
It's incredibly short and has Togashi laziness all over it, but it's nothing too terrible. Terrible was the whole heaven terrorists thingie, which was the worse crap ever. But the last chapter's not to blame for that.
But puting 10 pairings out of Kishi's derriere isn't the way to go either, me thinks. Plus, as you admit yourself, this doesn't make for super compeling storytelling. "All these guys grew a loving bond during the years I've just skipped". Taking into account these guys weren't given the spotlight during the time they should've been given it, the fact that these love affairs all happened during a huge timeskip isn't entirely gripping or something that makes you go "oh, these two ended up togheter, cute!".
And if that was the intention then, I don't know, show a party after the war? Show these people bonding together, something we haven't seen in over a decade? Show, I don't know, Chouji at least TALKING with that girl? So we know. . .that they know each other? Something so this doesn't feel so random?
No it's not. It's really not. I wish people would stop saying things like that, when there's plenty of other series that have done far worse.
And he planned it plenty ahead, it'd been a regular thing for most of the series. He just thought Sasuke's "redemption" would come off better for the readers than it actually has.
Sorry, but you can't defend Sakura and Sasuke. There's been already far too many posts that have pointed out the stupidity of that relationship. You just can't. . .marry the guy that has ACTIVELY tried to kill you at least twice and that was planning a mass genocide just cause he poked your forehead and said "well, sorry, banging you, take care of our kid, I'm outta here, btw, clean the place, woman, bye!".
This IS one of the worst relationships out there, and the fact that it was mildly build up as the series went on (at least we saw how Sakura's infatuation with Darkly McDark never let go) makes it even kinda worse, as we're left unable to understand how Sakura, as terrible as she is (and she IS terrible) felt so low as to let herself get impregnated by someone that just. . .fucking hell, just tried to murder her! That called her useless and a nuisance 3 chapters ago before knocking her out cold cause she's annoying!
It's terrible, sorry. Just. . .terrible.
Relevant:
I can't say I won't miss Naruto, but it's nice to see the old dog put down.
The ending was nice and standard for the series.
By the way, is Real Naruto still going on?
By the way, is Real Naruto still going on?
Nope, it's been cancelled to make way for the Sasuke manga. Ugh.
So what are we going to talk about now?
Blech?
