@JERK:
Ignore this and hard.
Don't tell the new guys about your personal problems, Zephos, and let him decide for himself if Fairy Tail blows or if he enjoys it.
Anyway, if it hasn't been mentioned yet, Samurai Champloo and Outlaw Star are good Animes to watch when you have the time, too.
-
Midori no Hibi.
Shounen suggestions are coming, I can FEEL them. @_@
i recomnd that too..
also go watch GTO,
my disks are not with me so i cant give you a list now…. but lemme tell you, there is shit out there much better animes than naruto/bleach/onepiece/dbz out there.i tell you now as a word of advice, go watch random anime, you will find stories that are unbelievable.
-
Fairy Tale is mediocre. I read 30 chapters and there was nothing that seemed different from your generic shonen. And lots of people told me the story became really bad at some point. Don't waste your time with this shit, there are far better manga out there.

Oh and please read Legend of Koizumi.
-
Seto No Hayamone is a funny and entertaining anime, enjoyed everything about it.

Yeah most of the people I talk to outside of forums like both fairy tail and one piece, hell most of them like Naruto, I think it's a common theme that people usually like the three, at least when there not huge manga fans, I think people are more willing to forgive and forget bad things then most people here, I'm not making a claim that they should or anything it just seems like it, it's strictly an observation
-
Reading Fairy Tale is nothing compared to reading Rave so if you had to choose it's FT.
Not really seeing the "if you've read OP you should try FT" opinion. I don't get a OP feel from FT AT ALL.
-
Tbh, I wish someone had warned me about Fairy Tail before I started it. Huge waste of time.
-

^this. i'm not ashamed to say that i love all the main titles like One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail etc.
this forum is like the ONLY forum i've seen that so one-sidedly hates fairy tail >.>
but that's probably because everyone takes things too seriously and can't just sit back and take a shounen manga at face value lol
i can enjoy anything as long as the action is ok and the artwork is decent. plot comes second for me, although a good one is always appreciated XD

You have low standards.
-
so?
your point?
it's all in the eye of the beholder.
-
You have low standards.
This is a forum made for a children's comic where a Talking Skeleton makes poop jokes. You really want to talk about standards?
-

lol exactly
@MDL: AP's just known for hating things, but despite that it's actually what I like about it, no where else will you find such funny conversations of mangas, and I haven't seen another place that picks up series flaws as well, but the best part is the gifs and pics they make, it's a place where you love to hate, but don't let it sway your opinion too much, but it's a fun place

Ok.
He said:

Being able to enjoy something as bad as Fairy Tail because it has "ok" action and "decent" artwork means you have low standards. Am I wrong?
-
nope, you're not wrong.
i enjoy fairy tail because i find it good. you don't because you find it bad.
that's all that needs to be said really.
@choperman: yep, you pretty much summed it up. ^-^/
though i sometimes find other places to have funnier convos, i definitely agree with your post.

though it is kind of a mix there. this place does pick up on all the bad flaws of stuff, but since this site bitches about it seems EVERYTHING, of course they are going to notice all the flaws. You can't miss one if you include everything.
in that same sense its sometimes annoying seeing people bitch about something that wasn't bad at all, and lots of times being hypocritical about it as well such as bitching about "said manga" doing something and not bitchign about it when the holy grail "one piece" does the same thing.
yes i know you can execute the same thing in a good way or a bad way, but a cliche is a cliche regardless of how well it is executed. so if your going to bitch about say fairy tail doing said cliche, then you should bitch when one piece does the exact same cliche.

yea i don't get teh one piece fairy tail connection
i think so many are just blindly going "ooh art is similar"
if i were to compare i would say if you like naruto you'll like fairy tail. they both have this guild vibe of taking jobs and what not going on. the ninjitsu's are like the magic in fairy tail and what not.
hell the closest example to fairy tail is probably monster hunter, though i guess a bit funny to compare the too since the author of fiary tail made a monster hunter manga as well.
-
Fairy Tail was the biggest waste of time I've encountered with manga.
Now I haven't read much manga, so I haven't read the really, really terrible ones (like Rave or Rurouni Kenshin…or so I've heard anyway)
But I definitely regret it more than Naruto, mainly because Naruto was actually pretty good at some point.
-
Kenshin is a bit above mediocre but its not quite good, but I liked it anyway.

Take it back…. NOW!!!!!!
even people who aren't anime fans love that

Lol… that can be describe with one word. Recycling.
To those who read manga just for the art and putting the plot second to it, you people HAVE LOW STANDARDS, don't even try to defend your miserable situation, it's a waste of our time reading them.
At least place both art and plot on equal terms.
-

well i'm typically a fan of better plots, I must say there are many series that do fine without interesting plot twists and surprises, for example I like a few series mainly because it's just manly, Toriko, Beelzebub and DBZ don't have the most interesting plots, but you feel pumped when reading them, like you just got a six pack from reading something that manly, granted there are other reasons I like it, but I don't like 300 even if it is manly :getlost:
But I'd never say somethings bad because it follows cliche standards, although I would say it's bad if all it's characters were cliche and you knew everything that would happen before it did, although I like things more when they have interesting plots that don't go as you would think Berserk is a good example
-
That's pretty damned harsh. I read manga because it's fun. I get better written and structured plots in western comics and novels enough as it is already. It's not like I have low standards or high expectations. Stop shoving your own personal ideals like it's a fact.
-
It is a FACT .
People who read manga mainly for its art alone putting the plot in second…. have LOW STANDARDS.
Enjoy Bleach, your weekly art chapters.
-
Bleach is a different story though. There's barely much art to look at. At-least for me. In that case, I'd agree.

huh, i'm not sure what you thought i meant. I wasn't compraing fairy tail and monster hunters art
i was comparing their story, or basic premise behind world maybe. both are about people that join a GUILD and take JOBS, with a TEAM
well in MH, he doesn't join a guild i guess, but there are guids
-
Have anyone read Rookies here? Is it good?
-
I dunno if I posted this on here before, but I translate this series Kokou no Hito:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=19567It's really good and it's got a realistic and psychological plot, and it's about loneliness and climbing. I'm not good with premises, but the art is really good and it's a good seinen manga. It runs in Young Jump. The scanlators are catching up to my translations finally, so check it out. I recommend it.

I watched the first couple of episodes of this series called Sekirei, and I'm thinking about buying the series to check it out (it's only $30 and since I started with the dub I'd like to see it through). Can anyone in here vouch for it? Am I making a good call?
And on a related question, it says on wikipedia it covers "roughly the first 50 chapters of manga" in the first season. Am I missing out on much by watching the anime instead for those first 50?
Edit: Well I went out on a limb and bought the series. Hope I made a good call
-
I Will Tell You This Now
In Capital Letter,
There Is This Anime,, Its Called Monster
Look For It , Watch It, All Of It. No Matter How Much You Might Not Like It Watch All Of It.
Now….................. Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

It's ecchi, if you are a pervert you will like it.

Monster's pretty good. I've only seen a couple episodes of the anime but I read the whole manga.
it has such an amazing plot and amazing pace with no filler whatsoever, im in episode 40 or so and i just wanna know what will happen to gohan
-
Latest mangas i started and finished were
Homunculus
Strongest Man Kurosawaand i think both are great, but definitely nothing for someone who just started reading mangas.
Those are not easy to read, but when you get into them you will love them.Next on my list was Lone wolf ∪ but i realized that i watched many episodes of the real life adaptation already.
Iam sure it would be still worth to read it non the less, but i think it has now even more time to do so as i originally thought.Ohh and i also read Chichi no Koyomi from Jiro Taniguchi, which portays in a rly well done way, how a son departed from his father and finally remembers old events while hes on his father`s funeral which opens his eyes on many things his father has done and which he judged as a kid different.
-
Can anyone tell me if Hajime no Ippo is worth reading 900 chapters?
-
it depends.
to chart a character's entire boxing career, the manga is of course going to last a long time, but there is a divide in opinion between those who got bored of the constant "training, match, training, match, comedy/drama part, training, match, more comedy/drama, match, etc" trend, and those who stick with it because they love what they see.
Ippo is a very good example of an underdog story, he almost always gets heavily beaten up in his fights before coming back to win through hard work and not some asspull BS (there are a few exceptions, but still.)
and to mix things up, the manga occasionally focuses on the careers of the other boxers in the ippo universe, and the manga is full of entertaining comedy and gag scenes.
it's a very nice mixed bag, but the length and repetitiveness drives a chunk of people away. Some people also dislike the art, but you'll notice a lot of improvement as you read along. to compare a page from each 100th chapter would really show the gradual improvement the best.
so yeah, like with anything, you should at least give it a shot. if you like boxing, underdog stories, and comedies, there shouldn't be much reason that you'd drop it anyway. =]
-
Can anyone tell me if Hajime no Ippo is worth reading 900 chapters?
I've already read it up to date and looking back I'm not sure. It has some good comedy and Ippo's journey from underdog to champ is pretty good.
I'd say read 450 chaps and see if you want to keep going. There may some things and characters you hate and others you love.
-
Can anyone tell me if Hajime no Ippo is worth reading 900 chapters?
Start reading it and drop it when the things start to bore you.
Could be very soon or very late.

I havent been up to date with the new animes since 2008. The last few animes i saw were around the time Code Geass ended. On that note tho, what new series are worth watching that was released or started around 2007-2008? Im just about running short on things to do for winter break.
-
Try Legend of the Legendary Hereos and Heroman.
-
Hmmm…I like Angel Beats a lot, and Panty&Stocking is proving awesome.
-
Michiko to Hatchin.
-
Tenchi Muyo, Berserk, Slayers, Ranma 1/2, Dominion Tank Police, Record of Lodoss War, Gundam.
Screw the newest stuff. GO with the established classics.
-
You forgot to mention COWBOY BEBOP Robby.
-
But everyone has seen Cowboy Bebop.
That's like saying go watch Akira or Vampire Hunter D.
…Samurai Champloo, that's a good one too.
If you really really insist on something newish, Nodame Cantabile, as well as Spice and Wolf are good if you're at all a romantic. Love Hina is older but good as well. Full Metal Alchemist I guess.

Very little has been quality material. I dropped off sometime in 2009 and nothing really notable has come up to plate.
I think the biggest was Bakemonogatari, which is now the all-time highest selling anime. It outstripped the combined sales of Geass and Geass R2 in less than a single year.
Index is decent, it has great ideas but poor execution.
Also…Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. I'm serious. You can check my intial skepticism in the topic of the same name and how I went a 180 (more like 90 IMV).
-
For animes i would say Monster (as i will always say go read\watch it) or Vision of Escaflowne, which i thought was pretty good.
From rly new stuff i haven`t seen so far good ones, but iam not rly into newer animes like some other guys here. -
I recommend:
Banana no Nana
it is no Beelzebub but I was pretty entertained.. …I mean come on? the tremendous fighting power of bananas? Hilarious
Oh and my usual (not shonenish) more popularity deserving recommendations:
Ocha Nigosou, Karakuri Odetto & Ciel
