Does Fate/Zero take place in the last Holy Grail War?
Animation Fall 2014
-
-
Fate/Zero is the 4th war which takes place ten years before Fate stay night, which is the 5th war. So yes.

And I assume the last one who won was Rin's father, is that it?

Rin states that her father is dead, so no.

Welp, it seemed like he died not so long ago.

Big news from SHAFT FOLKS~
Tsukimonogatari will be airing on 12/31/14 as a 4 episode OVA. Just like Neko:Kuro.
It's Happening.
-
How many Monogatari's are there??
-
And I assume the last one who won was Rin's father, is that it?
So I watched Fate Zero because I couldn't wait one week for the next episode of Fate/Stay Night.
I think it's worth watching for the great animation, the story, and to learn the origins of the serie. Of course like the third Star Wars revealed who Dark Vader is, they are a few spoilers in Fate Zero. But personally I think you can enjoy the show in both order. You will just understand better the relation between the characters. It doesn't spoil anything about this Grail War fights and winner. Actually since they are characters from Fate Zero in Fate/Stay Night, they might talk casually about the last Grail War and even reveal the winner at some point.
So I would say Fate/Stay Night contains way more spoilers about Fate Zero than the other way around. Indeed thanks to Fate/Stay Night you already knows which characters from Fate Zero died and survived. -
How many Monogatari's are there??
Quite a few I believe. You've just reminded me that I've only watched one episode of Hanamonogatari. Completely forgot about it, bloody hell.
-
-
Kizumonogatari (which is yet to be released), Nekomonogatari, Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Monogatari season 2, Hanamonogatari + the newly announced ones.
-
And most of them are now there for weird fetishes and talking about nothing.

And only Bake (and probably Kizu) decent enough to warrant a watch, lol.
Anyway, figured I could share my thoughts on this season so far:
Akatsuki no Yona - Good fantasy advanture Shoujo set in a quasi-Korean setting. Down to earth presenttaion, very straightforward and simple in its story, some reverse harem hints, but overall very decent. A show that could have aired a decade ago, I like these anime.
Cross Anal: Rondo of Rape - No comment, only hate.
Fate/Stay Night: UBW - I dislike most T/M series because I think the writing is overrated and plagued by unneccessary exposition, common tropes and other typical VN/LN problems. The production is amazign when it comes to battles and ok for the rest, but sadly the story is a huge step back from the very good F/Z (still the best thing T/M ever produced) to the usual anime stuff with overly morale teenagers engaging in death games/tournament with some pretentious dialogue and slightly unique setting.
Garo - Adaption of a toku show, which gave me plenty of rasons to be interested. Nice classic fantasy plot with some good production to back it up, bar a few strange CGI shots. Studio MAPPA is doing a good job this season after they kinda derailed Terror in Resonance in the second half.
Gundam Build Fighters Try - Best mecha commercial series since GaoGaiGar, the second season still delivers and is one of the best mecha shows in recent years.
Gundam G Reco - Very oldschool directing and I am honestly not sure how to feel about all of it. Very in medias res, which is a welcomed change though. Ask me again when this show is over.
Parasyte - I wasn't a fan of the reaaranging of events in episode 1, but the second episode was a lot better. So far it is a decent adaption of a great manga, even though they should not have had this horrible dubstep OST.
Mushishi - It's Mushishi, one of the best anime series of all times. That's really all there is to say about it.
Nanatsu no Taizai - Better than expected, a somewhat above average adaption as far as A-1 is concerned. The anime really makes me aware of the less favourable parts of the manga, though.
Ore, Twintails - The premise is so ridiculous that this show is becoming fun again despite all of its shortcomings. If you want a fun trainwreck (unlike Ange), just watch this.
Psycho-Pass 2 - Glad they seem to pick where they left akame's character arc, but I wonder if 11 episodes will be enough to fill all the old gaps in the story as well as finishing the new plotlines. Also, the production seems to have degraded a bit due to studio change, a pity.
Shigatsu wa Kimi - Music dramedy shows are always interesting and worth checking out, this one has good production and is quite nice. Not too outstanding, but I hope that will change; I could use a new Nodame.
Shingeki no Bahamut - My personal favourite this season. Great characters, very Western, good production and an interesting plot. MAPPA shows the industry how card adaptions should be done!
Terra Formars - Waiting until the ucnensored version comes out.
Yuuki yuna wa Yuusha - This is basically a Madoka ripoff. An enjoyable, harmless Madoka ripoff. So yeah, it's cute and I like it.Ongoings from other seasons for me:
Akame ga Kill - Typical edgy action Shounen, ranges from bad to absolutely forgettable, so obviously it is a hit with the teens.
Sailor Moon Crystal - Cheap Toei cashgrab that completely destroys the charm of the original adaption. A shame, I expected a lot more from it.
Happiness Charge Precure - Still hit or miss, but it got considerably better now that we get to some of the main points. I am excited how this will end and hope for another Precure season that capitalizes more on the good dieas of this iteration in the future.
Sword Art online 2 - Still bad, nothing new here.On-Hold:
Magic Kaito - I think I will wait until it is finished before I marathon it. Kaito is cool, but I don't feel like watching it weekly.Dropped:
Grisia - Just another entry in the "This LN/VN looks horrible in anime form, but trust me when I say the source is really good!" list.
Girlfriend (Kari) - Nothing happens.
Inou-Battle with Everday Life - Trigger doing a LN adaption that is just like most LN comedy adaptions. It's cute, harmless, but ultimately really boring. Also, the main character is cringeworthy.
Ookami Shoujo - It's kinda sexist and not very funny.
World Trigger - Toei trying to Out-Gainax Gainax with the laziest first episode I have seen in quite a while. -
^Not watching Google fox mom hijinks with Dolly is bad bad.
The broken doll girl cracks me up.
-

The broken doll girl cracks me up.
I planned to watch that but I always keep one anime per season that looks decent to me on my backlog for rainy days.
-
"SeHa Girl" is shaping up to be a sleeper hit if it can keep this up. Surprisingly funny, not to say nostalgic - the Virtua Fighter-centric episode 2 was hilarious. But it helps a lot if one lived through Sega's glory days.
-
People is saying that Yuuki yuna wa Yuusha is a Madoka Rip-off, but it is clearly a lot more similar with Evangelion. The only similar think with Madoka is Mahou Shoujo, the rest is totally different.
Seha Girls is Awesome! Everybody from the Sega consoles should watch it.
-
Parasyte is by a long shot my favorite this season, but there are some strong contenders aside from that:
I'm particularly enjoying Amagi quite a lot due to its cheeriness in general. It's premise is simple but I enjoy watching single-minded, stupid and funny characters interacting while having serious moments thrown in. Maybe that's why I enjoy One Piece.
Fate is also great. I've never actually enjoyed Fate's VN exposition-heavy nature but the whole setting and premise kept me glued to my screen while I played. So I'm glad ufotable is being able to incite such feelings in me with the adaptation. The animation particularly stands out, like we all knew it would.
Saving for the last is Shingeki no Bahamut–-the surprise of the season. This is one of those animes I only intended to watch if the reactions to it were good. Not having any time in my day to watch anime limits my options so I very often have to rely on people's overall opinion of an anime. Well, it seems my views resonate with the audience's, because I loved this. The characters were all really entertaining and I particularly loved the character designs.I've thought of watching a lot of animes like: World Trigger, Trinity Seven, Cross Ange, etc, but my own lazyness got the better of me. Will watch Nanatsu and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.
Also, I'm back to seldomly posting here. Spent a while away from OP but missed it too hard recently after my friend kept insisting I catch up with the latest chapters. Well, from the current flashback, it seems I made the right call to go back now, haha.

Final Season
-
Anyone is seeing Shigatsu no kimi Uso ?
-
Caught up with Shirobako just now and I'm really impressed by it. It centers around an anime production team working on producing an anime and struggling to meet deadlines and boy is it hectic. P.A Works certainly pulled their finger out after the shambles that was Glasslip. Shirobako and Shingeki no Bahamut are probably my two favorite surprises of the season.

I am. I'm really liking it and caught up with the current scans.

The show actually makes me depressed on how terribly unorganized anime production is, and how one selfish director could fuck everyone up.
-
Isn't it a small studio? And this is their first (second?) full show. They probably don't have the proper infrastructure in place yet. It's somewhat understandable.
And it is a show. They're not going to be a 'gets everything done well in advance, problems are dealt with in timely fashion' type studio or it'd be kind of boring.
-
Extremely tight schedules and crazy workloads are known thing about the industry. Entire episodes of Kill la Kill were finished mere hours before airing. Loads of shows have suffered from tight schedules by having wonky artwork/animation later fixed in home video releases.

A lot of it is actually self-parodying what happened with the studio's last shows.
The whole director thing and "remember what happened when you tried that last time!" was referring to Girls und panzer, for example.
A lot of the in-jokes and plots are based on real events. -
-
Well, this week's Fate was friggin amazing. What a great action episode and the subtle hints to Fate/Zero continue, too. Even if there's fairly little dialog, some subtle moments say quite a bit about the characters. I think this definitely gets more depth to it when Fate/Zero has been seen first.
-
What happened with Girls und Panzer?
-
The last scene in Fate UBW with archer was amazing
-
Parasyte and Fate/Stay night: UBW are my favorites this season.
Edit: Just watched Fate/Stay night: UBW episode 3, it was so beautiful. :')

Fate/Stay Night was amazing indeed.
Did you try Shingeki no Bahamut ? -
I haven't watched shingeki no bahumut episode 3 yet, but its good. When I get the time I will.
-
I still don't get the hype for FSN in general, it's nothing but a glorified classic death game setup with the usual annoying teenager characters. And while the fights look amazing, the rest of the show is "only" above average. Then again, I thought Kara no kyoukai was pretentious and kinda cheap, yet apparently 90% of the anime community thinks it is some intellectual masterpiece like Texhnolyze.
Also, Bahamut and Garo are great. This gives me hope that the "old property" MAPPA are working on for Spring 2015 will be really good as well. I recall them trying to find sponsors for a Pluto anime. If that is true, we already have AOTY 2015 at our hands.

Did you try Shingeki no Bahamut ?That had amazing first, good second and medicore 3rd episode.
Production values are high but somehow for me it is loosing bit by bit of charm with every episode. Maybe its lack of story/ story itself being something that I seen/ heard many times before.
I dont care for characters at all.
As awesome as Favaro is I am not very hyped about that anime. On other hand Terra Formars had very very good episode - its not deep or anything but it reminds me of how I felt when watching Attack on Titan.
First 3 episodes were pretty meh at best(censorship) but 4th and 5th were good and great imo. Really looking foward action that we will get later on
in that anime.. -

In terms of themes, it has some pretty interesting ideas about heroism and what it really means to be a hero. Part of Kirei's and Shirou's talk in episode 2 was Kirei provoking him to "be a hero" by calling him a coward and such. It's a carry-over from Fate/Zero.
In terms of characters, it's still Fate/Zero's idea of the clash of various ideals. You can see it in Rin and Shirou. All of the characters are very nuanced and compelling to watch to me because of this and because they have room to grow, again Rin and Shirou. All of them have their own goals as to why the want the grail or why they fight in the Grail War. That too, is a carry-over from Fate/Zero. All of these ideas are burried in the original VN from what I gathered, though and it's great to see them actually executed well, with all the awful stuff trimmed off.
To top it off you mentioned the animation which is just a icing on the cake. It's just a really solid series so far.About Bahamut, episode 3 was a step-down in terms of action, yes, but it gave us quite a bit of insight into Kaisar's character. I don't really understand the complaint about the plot? It's fairly straight-forward and simple, but the series is supposed to be a fun adventure with maybe a little depth to it, that's what I gather it's aiming for and I think it's doing what it's setting out to do really well.

I would probably think the same if I had only seen FSN, but after watching Fate Zero I'm even more hyped and I can see the depth of those apparently stereotypical brats.
Though it's not entirely true regarding the little Eisenberg, really weird behaviour so far. -
I watched Fate Zero and I played through half of the Fate route of FSN before dropping it…
-
I predict Shinji Ikari/Eren Jeager type of whining, actually. "Why is he so weak and whiny!" "I would totally do much better if I were in his situation!" type of crap (no seriously, I've literally seen the latter one). It happens with all teen-centric series like that. But then I like that. It's realistic.
Also, Ilya is most likely pretty screwed up because Berserker keeps the master in constant pain/costs a lot of energy. (See: Kariya)
Still, happy the anime so far is pretty much scrubbed clean of all the crap I've seen from the VN.

Heavy breathing
Fulfill you destiny, MAPPA.

Indeed, I really hope that we will see Pluto as an anime one day. I always preferred both Pluto and Monster over 20CB.
-
I just want them to keep the quality up with Bahamut, maybe not the most original thing, but really well executed, especially if you consider it's all based on a card game. The first half of Zankyou no Terror was really solid, too, but then it kinda dropped off.

Actually, the style of the card game is
. I can't say I am not glad they changed it completely, though - using funds from the company to make a good 'original' anime instead of another generic fantasy action Shounen type of anime is a good thing to do.
How do the Japanese like both MAPPA shows this season? -
BTW we keep saying it's a card game, but it's not a real physical card game. The source is a f2p mobile video game about card games.
Apparently, it's a really crappy game.
So in a way, an f2p mobile card game is the first video game to recieve a seemingly outstanding anime rendition. Not various fighters, not acclaimed character action games like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, not western juggernauts like Mass Effect or Halo, but a mobile card game.
Think about it for a second.
-
1. Parasyte
2. Fate/Stay night: UBW
3. Terraformars
4. SeHa Girl
5. Shingeki no BahumutDisappointments:
1. Tokyo Ghoul
2. Garo: Honoo no Kokuin
3. Magic KaitoOn the fence: World Trigger, Nanatsu no Taizai.
Horrible: Cross ange
Side note: I watched Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 and It was sad, but very good.

I'd say this depends on how you view the pokemon anime
-
Oh and The Gundam anime is currently the top rated anime for fall. In front of:
FSN: UBW and ParasyteEdit: World Trigger at 20 and Terraformars at 13(They jumped when the whole censorship thing disappeared)
-
Disappointments:
1. Tokyo Ghoul
2. Garo: Honoo no Kokuin
3. Magic KaitoCould you tell me why kaito is a disappointment? I'm really curious. So far I've watched only the first two episodes and being a detective conan and kaito fan, I think it was okay-good. I don't know if I remember right, but I think I like the first kaito ovas they did a couple years back animation and artstyle wise overall better though.^^

It may just be me(Probably is), but it's just lackluster for me, really. Maybe if I give it time and watch it in mass, it might get better. the characters are dull for me.
