Chapter 759: Secret Plan

Doffy is thankful that Luffy was merciful enough to not red hawk him in the face, leaving those beautiful shades intact for a little while longer.

It's safe to assume once the glasses break, either Doffy is down, or that's when shit gets real. I'm going with it's getting real, and the last straw was broken, by the straw hat.
-
For some reason I didn't enjoy the punch as much as I had too, but pretty good chapter and Bellamy for New Nakama.
-
If Law's room works on Dofly he should have teleported him under water when they were fighting over the bridge.
Too easy for a shonen? Thats the bad part of giving characters godly powers, it feels silly when they dont use them properly.
Sea water drains DF power. This was brought up in that chapter's discussion, too.
-
Finally :)
Red Hawk to begin with :) Nice one Luffy!
I'm looking forward to see the real strength of this technique. I guess Doffy's power is taken down from 100% to 80% with Luffy's fist.
I think Luffy might need to do a red hawk gatling or another technique to finnish Doffy.. anyway awesome chapter. -

HATER! shakes fist in air
Just not to your liking. As much as we would like it, we won't like everything that happens in the series. The more important thing will be if you are satisfied with the over all battle and the finisher, not the start of the fight.
-
i just love how dofla uses the same words as law against tashigi.
also the combo. yeah the combo was great
oh, and new attacks for law, that was really great how he just sat there grinning at trebolBecause Dofla taught him that.
-
huh, didn't know there was a chapter today
oh, Bellamy ;___;
-
good chapter again , nice seeing the throw back like how law talk that way because of don and combo move by luffy and law.
-
By the way, I like the theory that the first Corazòn was Doula Mongo himself, with his father/mother being the "Joker".
Wouldn't it be like his mother being the 1st corazon than doula himself taking that seat.
-
@zeff:
Wouldn't it be like his mother being the 1st corazon than doula himself taking that seat.
Why would his mother work under him?
With his mother/father dead, he would've inherited the top spot of the family, leaving the seat behind for his brother.
Also, remember how people refer to Doula as "young master", which implies the existence of an old master.
-
No i meant with his dad being 'the joker', doffy was 8 at that time. He wouldn't be given that much authority.
-
I'm pretty stoked, I just hope the fights aren't TOO easy for the Straw Hats. The next bunch of chapters should focus on the individual one-on-one fights, I think, one or two chapters for each, as usual. My guess is the order will be:
- Franky vs. Senor Pink
- Robin vs. Gladius
- Kyros and Rebecca vs. Diamante
- Law vs. Trebol
- Zoro vs. Pica
- Luffy vs. Doffy
-
I never thought anything could give so much pleasure, watching the grin wipe of Mingo's face and Mingo coughing blood. What a site.
-
maybe next chap mingo will more carefull hahaha
-
For some reason I didn't enjoy the punch as much as I had too, but pretty good chapter and Bellamy for New Nakama.
I kinda see him with Law.
Anyway, finally things are moving.
-
Meanwhile law gets yet another new move, and luffy just uses red hawk. Not that I'm complaining. It's just I'm REALLY hyped to see any new straw hat move. Never the less the past 3 chapters have been excellent.
Edit- I feel like Bellemy would fit better in laws crew than a strawhat. Considering law and his past with DD.
-
Wow, the last two chapters have been awesome. Actually meaningful dialogue, character development, and fight scenes that can be understood. This arc is starting to redeem itself (for me at least).
-
maybe next chap mingo will more carefull hahaha
He will be more serious, they way he was toying with them pissed Luffy off so much. He will start fighting from now but I reckon Oda will visit other fights first.
-
Pretty satisfying chapter. Now, Luffy should've learned not to be careless when his enemy holds his friend a hostage. Parasite'd Bellamy could've been easily subdued without harming him with Law's power while Luffy dealing with the String Clone, but that probably would kill the drama. I'm assuming that Dofla easily fell victim to Law's "Shambles" because he was a sitting duck (or rather, sitting flamingo-man). Trebol has failed us again this time, but it's to be expected.
+1 Respect to Gladius for at least trying to reassure his officers that they would eventually be returned to normal, even if it was just lip service.
-
An okay chapter.
-
About Luffy forgiving Bellamy and calling him "friend".
I think it happened a bit too easily, considering their past in jaya.
I mean, their first meeting in dressrosa was a bit unfriendly one, Bellamy mentioning skypieans and taunting Luffy about their fate etc.
Then, all of a sudden Luffy goes cheering for Bellamy and they discuss in a friendly manner after the battle.
And now, luffy is pissed of because Doflamingo hurts his "friend"? -
"Aren't there countless people that underestimated them and got burned like that ?"

And now, luffy is pissed of because Doflamingo hurts his "friend"?When luffy and Bellamy saw each other at the beginning of the arc I felt like Bellamy while being extra cocky was showing respect towards luffy.
-
What is going on with the other fights? Typically the henchmen are fought before the big bad is faced by Luffy. So confused. Great chapter though.
-
So satisfying seeing Dofla getting punched like that.
Trébol was great this chapter too, loving him even more now.
-
If Law's room works on Dofly he should have teleported him under water when they were fighting over the bridge.
Too easy for a shonen? Thats the bad part of giving characters godly powers, it feels silly when they dont use them properly.
His room probably can't penetrate water, considering it negates devil fruit abilities.
Let me break it to you now, they aren't dead.
So much denial in this thread. Honestly, by this point they are. Monet's death was already very different from all the other's in the series thus far: we saw the wound (stabbed in the heart let's not forget) and then we saw her body. Vergo was more up in the air, but I feel like Doffy's statement is the best confirmation we are ever going to get.
It's hilarious how no one can accept it because of past burns.
If we are at it… As much as I love the panel... DoFla was aware what will happen and he doesn't even seem to use CoA to protect himself against Luffy's Red Hawk... or with his allmighty coat
I think it simply happened too fast. He realized it a split second before Luffy' fist connected with him.
-
Some people will feel bad for Bellamy (as a big fan of his character it crushes me seeing him like this, very sad), some people will feel indifferent, some people will consider it to be a waste, and others will agree with everything Doflamingo said about him.
This chapter made me even more interested in Bellamy's past. -

Isn't that what CoO is for?

I've never once complained about Pell or any other character in the story not dying. I don't have any emotional stake in it at all. It's just Oda's way. While the possibility of them being dead is certainly there it's clear to me that their purpose in the story isn't over yet and that is why they are alive. Much of their mystery could be found out in a flashback but I'm sure like every character still alive who should have died in this story, they still have more to contribute even if it's something on the level as an ally/enemy during the final world war.
I don't mind eating my words but present day death in One Piece for named characters is an extremely rare event unless that character has fulfilled their over all purpose.
Doflamingo assuming they are dead works well when considering his motives but him saying it doesn't mean jack.
-
Because Dofla taught him that.
i know, thats the point^^ he even started the sentence with "remember what i told you law…"
-
Great chaps…..great combo and ending
law power definitely got limitation or it seem a likely same shape to be able to swap(the head with cannon ball etc), it could not swap with thing like fish neverknew the whereabout,

Yes I support this greatly. I hope Luffy avoids Bellamy like the plague after this arc and vice versa

Oh… but they are such good friends, you guys! How can you be this cruel...
-
Luffy-Law is really one of the best combination!!!!!!!! This is a great chapter, can't wait for next chapter ________
I used to really hate Bellamy but everything change now ;; -
Isn't that what CoO is for?
Would CoO work in this case since the attack was technically directed Law and not him?
-
@Mega:

Actually, Luffy almost always gets a hit off on the enemy captain before the crew 1v1s happen. Crocodile, Hody, Kuro, Krieg, Caesar, etc.
-
Would CoO work in this case since the attack was technically directed Law and not him?
It should the moment it was directed at him. Not to mention he actually realised Law's plan the moment he made room… so yeah. The fact that he was Hody Jones level of hopeless in that moment is kinda jarring.
-
Isn't that what CoO is for?
Honest question, because I can't remember right now: have we ever seen him use Haki of any kind? We all assume he can, but there's no conformation of it yet.
Even if he can though, we've seen time and again that pure speed will beat CoO, so they may have just been faster between Luffy's gear 2 and Law's last second shambles.
And then of course, there's the idea that CoO only works once the opponent has decided on a what their doing. Luffy could have been thinking Red Hawk all the way through but nothing else and Law last second used shambles before Doffy could react with CoO.
Anything is possible, but I think they were simply too fast.

Doflamingo assuming they are dead works well when considering his motives but him saying it doesn't mean jack.
I would argue that their purpose, as with all of Doffy's "family," is simply to serve their young master to their utmost ability. They never really seemed to have more ambition than that, so yes, in their defeat they are not able to serve him any more than they already have–they've reached their ceiling, thus, their purpose has been fulfilled.

And now, luffy is pissed of because Doflamingo hurts his "friend"?Wasn't really such a big of a deal. Nobody was hurt permanently. And Luffy makes friends quite easy. It's what makes him special, at least as far as Mihawk was concerned.
Besides, Luffy isn't pissed off only because Bellamy is his "friend". The chapter made an effort of showing flashback of Bellamy saying how he admires Dofla. And Dofla has him under his foot, beaten up now. People like that are who Luffy hates the most, as was pointed out right in the previous arc.
-
and knowing the attack is coming =/= dodging. marigold predicted luffy's attack with her haki and yet she still failed to dodge it cause it's just too fast for her to keep up.
-
"The proverbial straw that broke this camel's back!"
"Butt buddies."
"Off to Neverland."
What the hell, MS?

We saw him use both CoA and CoC. One would assume he would have CoO.
Also, is the blow quicker then ability to harden your body with haki?
-
Yes I support this greatly. I hope Luffy avoids Bellamy like the plague after this arc and vice versa
As someone who still believes Oda's biggest misstep this arc was bringing back Bellamy, I wholeheartedly third this. Keep him off the Sunny.
Actually, Luffy almost always gets a hit off on the enemy captain before the crew 1v1s happen. Crocodile, Hody, Kuro, Krieg, Caesar, etc.
Luffy hit Croc after the 1v1s were done. He fought him previous to them, but he never landed a blow and ended up with a whole in his stomach drowning in quicksand. (Speaking of, too bad there wasn't any meat around at Marineford, considering it's apparently the miracle cure for whole in one's chest.) Rest are accurate if we allow for the fact that Kuro, Krieg, and Caesar didn't really have 1v1s.
-
@Nex:
His room probably can't penetrate water, considering it negates devil fruit abilities.
It doesn't. Just makes users unable to use their powers by weakening them. Just remember Luffy's neck being stretched in Arlong Park, or Aokiji freezing the sea. Or, and this one is the kicker, Van Dekken using his Mark devil fruit on the bottom of the sea.
-

Where, just curious?
Depends on Doffy's inate reaction time. Even then I'm assuming he used hardening if he's going to continue this fight, considering Red Hawk's explosive qualities; he just wasn't able to dodge.
-
So, my thoughts on this chapter (trying to avoid things other people already covered):
First, MangaPanda doesn't even bother to translate the cover stories. Figures.
Second, I love how much of a sadistic asshole Doflamingo is. It really shows in his interactions with Bellamy. I figure we'll get a flashback that explains the origins of the connection between Bellamy and Doflamingo (possibly as part of the Law/Dofla flashback), and I'm looking forward to that. Also, hopefully, we'll get a more comprehensive explanation of these big changes Bellamy apparently believes are coming, even if it's just to clarify that he's talking about how Doflamingo wants to wreck the world (as per his statement to Bellamy back in 753).
Third, Dofla blocking Luffy's kick with Bellamy's head was pretty funny. I also like how Bellamy is used to make the team-up make sense later; Luffy can't take down Bellamy without killing him, so he can't go after Doflamingo effectively, meaning he needs Law's help to make that first hit connect.
Fourth, I suspect we're seeing just how badly wounded Law is, since this was one of the smallest Rooms we've seen. He probably doesn't have the stamina left to make one of the fuck-off-big ones that are (presumably) needed to cut through the hardened CoA of someone like Vergo or Doflamingo.
Fifth, I like how much the panel of Luffy hitting Doflamingo with red hawk reminds me of the panel of Luffy punching Enel for the first time. It's a nice callback to one of the most satisfying punches of the series.
Speaking of Skypeia, that punch came 42 chapters into the arc; this one, of course, is 59 chapters into the arc. It's admittedly a completely arbitrary metric, but if we assume that first connecting punch happens at about the same relative point in the arc each time, Dressrosa will end up being about 91 chapters. As a result, I think it's a reasonable estimate that Dressrosa will run a total of 75-95 chapters. I had previously been guesstimating somewhere around 70-75, but that doesn't feel like enough to wrap up the outstanding flashbacks, Zoro v. Pica, Sabo v. Fujitora, Robin(?) v. Gladius, Kyros v. Diamante, Franky v. Senor Pink, Law(?) v. Trebol, Luffy v. Doffy, and then wrap up the arc.
EDIT: Also, I don't know if it's any more accurate, but I really like Mangastream's translation of the bottom-left panel here. Combined with Gladius' thought bubble, it makes it look like he's face-palming at how dumb Dofla's minions are.
-

Yeah, you're right. I've even used the Luffy in Arlong Park example before in arguments. It's just early in the morning for me.
Another possibilty is that Law can't move something into a denser space?
And there's always the idea Law can't directly cause any harm with the Op-Op fruit. I don't know. I got nothing.
