I completely agree with King of Calzones. I wouldn't argue, at this stage I can't be bothered picking out what is wrong with One Piece's animation but instead I'm constantly wondering what the hell is going on inside the company.

Episode of Merry and Dragon Ball Kai are two products that shouldn't exist yet Toei want to push these properties out so fast that they can barely live up to expectations.

If 'One Piece' seems badly represented it's down to Toei Animation's work ethic. Employees that are so distant that the ones making the biggest decisions are the ones making the most money, yet they do the least work and are probably clueless about their properties. I bet if you compared everyone's role in Toei animation with their wage and the work they put in, it would paint a bigger picture.

I'm always keeping track, but the episodes are as caught up with the manga now as they were at the Enies Lobby Arc where they had the flashback episodes. Is that a bad sign? I don't think so, the production staff seem to be doing pretty well with creating original filler that works with the manga, there's a lot more going on than in previous arcs so there's a lot room for expansion. The other thing is that the Dressrosa chapters have Oda squeeze more content than he did during Enies Lobby, especially when it came to fights.

What would you ideally want to see once this arc is over? A lot of filler?

Yeah, after this arc is over, what w/ all the breaks Oda's been taking, the anime will be extremely close to the manga. I think a decent sized filler arc will be unavoidable this time around. Hell, they already squandered the best chance w/ the Breed Filler. Not too sure what opportunities will be left open after DR, unless they go the Naruto Shippuden route and make an "original flashback" filler where the characters reflect on a random adventure that we'd never seen but somehow happened inbetween an arc pre-timeskip OR they go the Bleach route and just say outright that this next story is completely random and has no connection whatsoever to anything. At this point, I'd be cool w/ them doing a freaking anime adaptation of Unlimited Adventure or something. It'd be a great excuse to bring back ALL the old characters from the past and have the crew, now more powered up test their skills against foes some crew members never even personally fought. Think of a scenario where Nami can legitimately fight Arlong w/ her Perfect Climatact, or Usopp taking on Kuro. I know it'll never happen, but even w/ the pace Toei is going, I'm not sure how they'll be able to regain a decent manga to anime gap once this arc is done.

basically beacause of oda's consistent 1-2 week break schedules that pop up.which everyone here is fine with,however,the anime doesnt get to have such luxuries and mst break every once in awhile as well or risk catching up to the source material indefinitely

We're not getting all of 723 until 654. 655 is Sanji vs doflamingo, so 654 has to have the end of 723. 653 will be the leftovers of 722 and some of 723.

Why did they repeat all that footage backwards at the end? And you know, they say Sanji will fight Doflamingo but they barely give us a nanosecond of footage. Either the animation is abhorrent or too good.

Ah well, not like it matters. No episode next week anyways.

So Dressrosa so far.. for the amount that the chapters have been spread across the arc Toei aren't doing too bad. They have managed to adapt roughly 24 chapters across 27 episodes thus far (chapter 700 to 723, episode 629 to 655).

It more than likely won't be until March 2015 where we catch up to where the manga is currently (chapter 753). At this rate the arc could last 70 episodes upwards with no closure in sight of the comic's arc yet.

If you're a viewer finding Dressrosa slow, badly paced, etc, this isn't good news. I'd guess there will be a lot more filler content if Oda continues with breaks.
If you're enjoying the arc thus far, you're in for a treat

Just clarifying, this preview was weird like that because the tv version was only 15 seconds long this week.

It happens when they advertise something after the preview (new special, merchandise, attractions, etc).

But the preview that's 30 seconds is from the Fuji tv site. No reason to believe that they didn't intentionally repeat the footage for some kind of dramatic effect.

'Stares offs' are done in the first place because of a lack of available drawings, not because of trying to avoid change the comic fights or anything. If episodes weren't restricted to three or four thousand drawings an episode, there would probably be a lot more fighting throughout year each.
