It still feels cheap to see Pica use a sword all of a sudden. At least hint towards it somewhere so it doesn't feel this awkward. Frankly, I would've preferred him using his powers creatively instead of relying on a sword that likely won't do shit against Zoro.
To be fair, we've only really seen Pica in the last few chapters.
With him being the head of the squad containing weapon specialists like Baby 5 and Gladius, it does kind of make sense.
Still, I'm sure he'll mix swordplay and stoneplay together enough to make it interesting.
I haven't read through this thread to see what others have said, but cmon Oda! I feel like he's questioning our intelligence by giving Zoro only swordsmen fights/
It's never 'just' been swordsman fights; Arlong, Miss Monday, Mr. 5, Mr. 3, Satori, Oars & Eneru, the Pacifistas, the Dragon & Monet have all counted among his foes.
It's just that when there is a swordsman he prefers to fight one on one and these fights are featured.
There's even shade in these duels as Daz Bones was trying to hunt Nami, Jabra & Usopp being involved before he & Kaku settled into it etc.
He was facing Pica before he knew he even had a sword. Swords are just his area of expertise.
The thing that most of you poeple haven't paid attention to ( to my surprise cause even the least important shit gets discussed here!!!!!)is that why are Abdullah and jet with them, I'm certain it's not for the FUN, they are bounty hunters maybe they are needed to recognize someone that luffy doesn't know or β¦., but seriously why the hell are they with luffy , and taking in account the fact that they , unlike pretty much every one in the "rascal army", haven't been given proper build ups and are weaker in comparison to the others, SO WHAT DOES ODA WANT TO DO WITH THEM
I thought of them as some kind of preachers, watching first hand the awesomeness of Luffy and Zoro and later spreading the word to everyone. Kinda fits them, they seem to be serious about God Usopp.
I also had some thoughts about Dofla and Cora. I've felt a while as if Dofla is a bastard child with his father being a world noble and mother some common woman, perhaps even a slave. His father murdered his mother, so he murdered his father. Coras mother on the other hand was a real world noble making him a fully privileged one too. He did love his brother though and despised his fathers action, thus following Dofla to the sea eventually. There are some lose ends though but whatever the story is, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of cover ups for something, which is why he has some control over the WG. Upholding peace isn't as important as upholding their image it seems.
Another thought about his somewhat affection to his crew is that some of them are actually his slaves, but he is treating them very well compared to the world nobles. Some sort of Stockholm syndrome. Allthough I doubt his top executives are.
Also, why would Pica using a sword equal to him not using his df powers anymore? I very much doubt his that one dimensional.
Last but not least, Laws sad backstory upcoming. Of course he's gonna join the crew.

Weirdest chapter name this week.I'm sure Oda will use this chance to teach to 'certain someone' how to handle rocks brilliantly!
Need more rock attacks and sword combos. I hope we get over 20 more chapters for this arc so it could be the longest New World arc to date

I can't see anyway that the arc doesn't last at least another 20 chapters tbh.
Esecially if we include the eventual recap of what's been happening off the coast of Dressrosa.
So, Alabasta arc began at chapter 158, and finished at 216. That makes 58 chapters total. I can totally see Dreasrosa arc exceeding that amount.
Skypiea began at 237 and finished at 302. That makes 65 chapters total. I'm pretty certain that Dressrosa will exceed even Skypiea, making it the longest arc ever.

We're all wondering what Law's story means. Next week we'll definitely find out because it's a "50" chapter.
Next chap is around 18.06.2014 so no chap for next week

Yup now it's time for me to pick up Toriko and see what all the fuss is about
This was one fun action-packed chapter.
I hope Zoro's bout with Pica doesn't devolve into straight up swordsman duel and Pica uses his powers so Zoro can go all Shadow of the Colossus on his stone ass.

Ever the optimist, heh?
I wouldn't mind as much if he didn't literaly pulled it out of his ass. Him being the swordsman was very hardly foreshadowed.
And he is stone assimilation man. Can he even use stone attacks without assimilating it? He was never shown doing so, so I'm kinda sceptical about him combining his swordplay and his stone abilities, considering he stopped using the giant.
mingo 1 and mingo 2
the mingo 1 si doffy
the mingo 2 si cora
hmmm..
whats the reason of killing his own brother?
Yup now it's time for me to pick up Toriko and see what all the fuss is about
With all of lately breaks in One Piece I watched all of Hunter X Hunter anime episodes. It was quite awesome as a whole till point where anime is now.
Toriko I never tried, post some update if its good or if it rather sukcs when you will be more into it
Btw Does anybod can post a link for JoJo Bizarre Adventure anime? I searched some but didnt found proper version of all seasons(of latest version of JoJo) with jap dubbing and good english subs.
One could be Dango, the other the Mongo.
I wouldn't mind as much if he didn't literaly pulled it out of his ass. Him being the swordsman was very hardly foreshadowed.
Aside from his card sign being a spade.
If I wanted to nitpick, I'd ask why it had to be a katana again. I'd imagine someone as brutish as Pica with a more robust weapon, like a broadsword or a claymore.
Mingo Mingo Mingo Mingo⦠Mingo dai kaIzoku

Yeah, pulling the sword out of hammerspace wasn't great but like i said, leader of the weapons specialists, so I'm not that bothered.
Had he shown a distinct fighting style against other opponents and then pulled out a sword only for Zoro, then yeah, that'd be pretty bad.
Since they seem to be fighting in an area primarily made of stone, I can't see why he wouldn't be able to mix sword attacks with stone attacks.
I'd imagine someone as brutish as Pica with a more robust weapon, like a broadsword or a claymore.
Or a gigantic cleaver.
I'm the only one thinking that Franky can use a laser that can cut seastone??
Need more rock attacks and sword combos. I hope we get over 20 more chapters for this arc so it could be the longest New World arc to date
We have at least 10 more FB chapters between the past of law/dofla/corazon
+5/6 more chapter with norland
+7/8 more chapters with luffy/law against dofla
+7/8 more chapters with sanji's/zoro's fight
+6/7 more chapters with diamant/trebol/kyros
+4/5 more chapters with fuji/sabo/dofla's henchmen (machvise, senior, β¦)
+6/7 more chapters with the whole franky/sad/monchery/robin/other dwarfs
And I'm not even talking about Burgess/cpo/ the 2samourais/ maybe the return of vergo&monet/ colosseum fighters....
People think this arc will finish this year, I sincerly can't see it at all, especially with oda taking a break every 3/4 chapters, Dressrosa will probably finish next year... Unless something happen that will accelerate the pace, I'm really waiting this "dangerous" character oda spoke about...
! :ninja:
I'm the only one thinking that Franky can use a laser that can cut seastone??
No! there are at least 3 of us if we count Franky !
He can probably control the giant while he's fighting. Swordsmanshipwise, he can't possibly beat Zoro, so he will probably have no other choice. I'm expecting a fight in the style of when you meet Chronos in God Of War 3.
On a related note: how many people are better swordsmen than Zoro at this rate? Mihawk is a given, but how many possible contenders can he still have?
I'd vote
Rayleigh
Vista
FujitoraDid I miss anyone?
I'd say shanks also
β- Update From New Post Merge ---

I really hope that's Corazon, Doflamingo can't of been that horrifying :ninja:

you are good, thanks for the share buddy

Did we acknowledge how horribly broken in context that would have been? And it's implications?
Why are you always a Debbie downer? Be glad like a sandwhich bag.
i think Pica have a stronger armament haki like vergo and oda confirm Zoro speciality haki is armament haki..
Did we acknowledge how horribly broken in context that would have been? And it's implications?
What implications? Vegapunk invented a way to manipulate seastone. Vegapunk also invented a laser. It's not like every other person has it. So far, it's just Franky, Pacifistas and Kizaru.
Next chap is around 18.06.2014 so no chap for next week
Oh yeah, I knew. I just forgot to 3 weeks I guess?
if the next three weeks are just going to be people losing their goddamn minds over a stylized profile of Doffy's face and its "implications" i might just call it quits here 'til 750 drops.
otherwise a terrific chapter - very excited for real Zoro vs. Pica, and I don't think Oda will cop out and make it just a solo swordfight. enjoy your well-deserved rest, Oda!!
For my metal paramecia Vergo theory haters:
I think that Law might be shown getting his legs and arms broken by Vergo after badmouthing/hiding something from Doflamingo/ Vergo when Corazon gotten killed somehow.
Law might have already had his Devil Fruit power and Vergo didnt even had to use haki as Laws power might have been too weak to cut metal at time when he was just a little boy.
That might add some sense to Vergo underestimating Law SO BADLY at end of Punk Hazard arc.
If you do think that Vergo is made of metal, I wonder why exactly you think it's because of a DF. Couldn't he just be a cyborg or something?
I wonder what all these tired of speculations guys come here for. Back in my day we came here to talk about these kind of things, and stuff was dscovered. Reveals like last chapt gave room to longer debates.. actually very interesting info is surfacing in other forums were debate is more open. Some Doffy quotes lead most to believe Cora sacrificed himself for Doffy, but hey i wont link the panels since u guys are so tired and all. Peace.

Or something? Like?
We have Kuma and imo putting another cyborg into story would take away from Kumas unique "cyborg" thing.

Kuma's unique cyborg thingβ¦
!
Hell, Kaidou has his own cyborg henchman.
Vergo as a cyborg would work just as well as a twist, if not better as it would fit with Punk Hazard's theme.

Doflamingo stated it was because of Vergo's Haki, that Law had apparently been unable to cut through previously.
Nothing to do with metal.
Edit : I couldn't be bothered scrolling back to Vagabond's previous comment.

No, this guy (vagabond) has been using some arguments about Vergo having a metal Paramecia for a while.
Even though that was already Daz Bones' thing already. And the hardness could be easily explained by Tekkai/Haki/cyborg implants anyway.
Oda knows how to keep us arguing for 2 weeks lol it is probably doffys pic but can't be sure since Law is talking about Corazon

Pardon me for intruding, but devil fruits with similar effects aren't something unheard of in One Piece. Especially in the last 100 chapters.

Well, Doula technically already has a metal Paramecia on his crew (Baby 5). Devil Fruits with similar effects seem to be a fine thing as long as they're introduced far away enough from each other.
I was also mocking the statement of cyborg being Kuma's "unique" thing.
Kuma's unique cyborg thingβ¦

I meant for cyborg that doesnt look robotic until you cut him up- Kuma is something like that.
As for Franky and other hybrids of human and machine its visible that they are partially robotic since first glance.
As for metal DF being Daz Bones thing- really? I thought that blades can be made out of all sorts of materials. Maybe next time we will see him his blades will be made out of crystal/ diamond-like material.
During this arc we already have Gladius with power that reminds me of mr 5 and Machvise who has power very alike of the one that Miss Valentine had.
But of course if I go around and say that there can be other character with power slightly similar to what we had before then its scandal you guys can be silly gooses sometimes

Easily you can explain stuff on way that is more into your liking then letting yourself think that its possible for Vergo to have metal paramecia.
You are slowly admitting he is made out of metal - look out
Goverment cyborgs we will get probably at time when CP0 will be fighting
Baby 5 now has something close to metal paramecia? You try really really hard, I give you that.
She could theoretically turn her limbs into maces or hammers, which essentially would be the same effect of a metal Paramecia.
She also takes the form of liquid metal when turning herself into weapons.

Exactly. And Baby 5 already has that power that "recycles" from Daz Bones.
The twist is that Corazon was the one at Roger's execution.

Sure. Then if weapon has wooden handle she can also be compared to wood paramecia if there will be something like that.
And gunpowder paramecia. And rocket fuel paramecia when she turns into rocket. And dynamite paramecia when she turns part of herself into material that blows up stuff.
I get your point but those abilities are pretty far from each other if you look at it wider.

A plain metal Paramecia is just plain redundant on the world of One Piece. We already have a metal blade man, a metal weapon woman and even a magnet man that can create giant metal limbs. And abilities that harden the body into metal-like hardness like Tekkai and CoA. And cyborgs and robots.
It would be like having a super speed Paramecia when stuff like Soru, Shakushi and the Pika Pika no Mi exists. The ability has to offer something more than simply "super speed".
Basically, non-DF people can already turn into metal, so what's the point of an ability that turns one into metal and nothing else?

Go and watch new x-men movie - you will see and amazing show off of what speed superpower can be while used properly
You try to downgrade possibility of Vergo being metal devil fruit user because you dislike it, not because you proven or can prove that its impossible for him to have it.
Also if he would be cyborg Laws counter shock would affect him a bit more imo.
And I dont agree with metal paramecia not being good devil fruit for CQC fighter.
If you have metal body, add CoA hardening and Rokushiki skills you have super durable monster.
People like CP9 using tekkai are not getting properties of metal but hardness of steel.
There are metals harder than steel and metal devil fruit user would get weight in addition to all of his attacks. Kizaru before kicking Hawkings already mentioned that speed is weight but when you have weight and durability of metal you also get a lot of firepower. So Rokushiki users using Tekkai cant be compared in all departments(weight of attacks) to metal devil fruit user.

I'm talking about redundancy here. You don't seem to be getting it.
When normal people already have several ways to turn their own bodies into metal-like hardness, then a plain metal DF is simply pointless. It's like having a DF that allows one to manipulate water when Fishman Karate already exists.
It has to offer something more than simply a metal body. For example, Daz Bones' DF grants him a metal body only as a bonus. Same with Baby 5. They do other stuff besides being simply made of metal.

Cyborgs can get the same advantage, without sacrificing their ability to swim.
