A Study of One Piece Animation
-
That would be a relief to see.
-
Deguchi is an artless hack in both direction and art all the while tanding too keep his episodes appearing (and likely in actuality) low budget. His "good" episodes are usually the result of quality key animators picking up the slack or more talented co-directors salvaging portions of it. He probably cranks his out in record time which is why he's somewhat more prolific than other directors.
-
Interview looks interesting, I hope someone gives a good translation.
BTW, did you guys see the pics from #637 in the General One Piece thread? The bottom pic looks like Tomita's work.
I guess Deguchi will have a bunch of good animators again thanks to Tokoro.
Deguchi is infamous, but who is Tomita? What scene has he worked on?
-
Tomita's the guy with the really shiny style. Similar to Shida's, but less flowy.

The guy who animated the Docking!

Very well said. I find it funny that Deguchi and Yokoyama works are listed in the Sakuga database.

Argh…The first scene where Luffy throws the Punch is Tate. But it's to be expected from someone who doesn't even follow the show.
-
Wow! I thought that those were from Shida.
-
-
I'm glad that they managed to keep Chinjao's Super Saiyan beard in tact.
-
Preview looks better than expected, also Tomita!
Still, some parts looked awful at the begining.
-
So people are helping out this Deguchi guy on his episode? Will the episode will be better now or what?
-
Id be interested in knowing why the One Piece Anime got so much different Art Directors and why they have so different amounts of Budgets for the Episodes (If Iam wrong with the Budget-thing, sorry). Why isnt it just one Team or two, for all the Episodes? The difference in Art, between all the Episodes yet, is horrible. Some People are doing a really bad Job and can still work for such a important Series? Or is it sometimes so bad in Art and/or Animation because the Budget doesnt "allow" a better looking Episode?
-
If One Piece (or any anime for that matter) had only two animation teams we'd only get maybe three or four episodes a year. If you pay attention to the credits for any anime you'll see that there's quite a lot of manpower involved, and every show has multiple animations teams, some better than others. Every show has its good animation directors and key animators and its bad ones once you start paying attention. Some are better at hiding it than others, but the variance is still there. One Piece is not unique in that regard by any stretch of the imagination.
-
I may have missed something obvious, but at the end of 627 there's some odd text on Luffy's chest in place of his scar. Does anyone know what it translates as or why?
!
-
I'm pretty sure that's just his musculature looking a little weird when drawn so tiny.
-
Hello
today is monday, and I don't have settei for you, sorry :(
But I have the complete storyboard from the episode 623 :) -
I would love to see a storyboard by Takashi Otsuka, Makoto Sonoda, Katsumi Tokoro, or Komaki Aya….They know how to make a fun episode.
I'm guessing only few animators are allowed to storyboard the action by themselves, like Shida. It seems that Ito just follows the storyboard precisely.
Also, this might explain why some animators like to work with specific directors, maybe because of the storyboarding. Like what Otsuka did with Hisada in #607.
-
I didn't realize the storyboard drawings would be quite that detailed (though it makes sense, obviously). I'm used to the ones for films and comics looking a lot rougher and simplistic. I bet even Deguchi's artwork looks better before it's cleaned up for the cel.

The storyboard's detail tends to depend on the time the storyboad artist has to draw, not to mention their own skills. The storyboard for a Deguchi episode can look awesome, but if Deguchi and his key animators cannot translate the storyboard into great key animation drawings the storyboard really doesn't matter.
-
I made a assembly form an other storyboard form episode 579 and the anime. The work is amazing.
I don't find on one piece wiki, who draw the storyboard.I will scan all page of this storyboard next week if you want ;)

I already told you this was made by Naoyuki Ito. Didn't you get my messages?
-
damned!!
I have read your message and now I go to one piece wiki to fingd information, but i didn't remember you have already done it :)
sorry.
-
Those storyboards are weirdly detailed, anime movie storyboard Normally look like incomprehensible doodles.
-
-
It looks so good! I'm excited.
-
I dunno, the kick from Blue Gilly looks pretty meh. I still have high hopes for that episode though.

@Galaxy:
Interview with Hisada (Animation Director)
Translated version:

#637 was a good episode, lot's of cool animators worked on it, I think mostly are freelancers.
Bellamy's part byTomita was awesome. Also Ricky's part was really good, not sure who yet, but could be Takara's?
-
I'm pretty confident that that was indeed Takara. He's shaping up to be a name to keep an eye on for the future.
-
Thank you for the translation of the Interview with Hisada, it was very interesting and I love this picture with the settei of Ussop!

I made a video with a part of the storyboard #258 - we can see the Sogeking's entrance.
With can see the tranposition from the storyboard to the anime. You will have a surprise at the end of the video, I hope you will like it :)
Oh shit that was awesome very interestin stuff to see I really like the ending with the detailed models of rocketman, puffy tom and franky's cola fridge insides.
Storyboard comparsion was cool Thanks for that.

Very nice, thanks for sharing it ^^

I always liked Munehisa Sakai's storyboarding, the shot of Sanji/Franky WTF faces, in the middle of the song was just hilarious.

Gotta love animators who uses smears. Now I'm also more confident that he did the Baby5/Buffalo Vs. Franky, the part after Shin Matsuo scene in #619. I wasn't sure at that time, since I needed to see more from him to properly grasp his style. BTW, he was also responsible for the Dancer scene in #630 up to Fujitora's debut.
Yeah, he is one of those young animators who are put on One Piece for testing purposes, then when they get really good, they are moved to other shows.

Who are some of the people this happened to? Any notable names?

Naoki Tate, Ryou Onishi, Naohiro Shintani, Kenji Kuroyanagi, Yukihiro Urata.
These are animators that evolved while working on One Piece.

Luffy/bellamy part looks good.

Why? Have you seen it? Are you from the future?
-
Looks like Shingaki.
I wonder if Otsuka's ep will cover some pages from #714, or will it just be filler for block C. At least they left the dialogue stuff for the week after, Now I'm hoping for a full action episode.
-
Why? Have you seen it? Are you from the future?
Nah, just telling it like it is. The next episode looks shitty.
Could end up being a decently enjoyable episode if the directing manages to save it, however just based off the preview alone the art and animation of the episode looks crappy to say the least.
So right away without even seeing it, 640 already seems to be off to a really bad start.

Crappy? That's strange to me, because, based on looks, the art and animation appear to be better than 639. lol
I don't know how high your expectations are, but whatever.Moving on.
