Wait a second. If the whole country believed that Scarlet died from an illness, How the hell did they find out that rebecca is king's grandchild?
One Piece Chapter 742 - I'll always be close to you

have someone mentioned this, ive looked just 4 pages but noone mentioned…
i dunno if this is a plot hole..
http://xreader.net/One-Piece/721/10
toy soldier aka kyros has met 2 days before scarlet shot, means that it wasn't his first meeting with scarlet when the day she was shot.
i dunno if oda really made it that way. if just by reading this chapter alone, it occurs to my mind that kyros is yet to meet with both of his family members when the accident took place (scarlet shot by diamante) -
Actually I thought it was funnier that Usopp was shown utterly defeated in the panel following his badass posturing on the ledge and everyone praising his bravery. This is one of those moments where everything was set up for climactic heroic battle and Usopp using the tabasco ball was so predictable that it was guessed by near everyone the moment that ball was introduced. Yet, it turns out his "fight" was so pathetic it wasn't even worth showing and he only succeeds through sheer luck and humiliation. The icing on the cake will be the newly human slaves heroically parading his comatose, teary-eyed corpse and later telling themselves fantastic lies about the event to convince themselves "Usoland" meticulously plotted the whole victory and he's truly one of the greatest warriors in history while Usopp personally knows the demoralizing truth.
Franky being utterly defeated wasn't too surprising yet I think this was the first time he was utterly defeated in combat since….Thriller Bark? (or Kuma if that counts).

Really liked this one, can't wait for powermanga translation

Wait a second. If the whole country believed that Scarlet died from an illness, How the hell did they find out that rebecca is king's grandchild?
Doflamingo makes the most sense. Monet was doing recon at the palace and told Doflamingo that Kyros had a daughter and a wife. Then sometime after he caught Rebecca, he told the whole country that Rebecca is the Kings grandchild and you can watch her die in the colisseum. Obviously since the country hates King Riku, that was a great way for Doflamingo to troll the hell out of Rebecca.

Doflamingo and his crew probably told everyone. He obviously knew it.

While it isn't black and white, I wouldn't say it is only "half right." Racism, discrimination.. aren't common tropes of shonen mangas though. Underpowered female characters who eventually become pointless are. And I don't think Oda intentionally used the sexism to mirror the real world, I have never gotten that reading from the manga, but he has intentionally used fisherman to show racism and "absolute justice" to show abuse of police/government power. If he did use the weak female leads and only pretty girls fighting other pretty girls as a way to mirror sexism in our world, then it isn't overt at all. No one is trying to make themselves to be "victims" here…
One Piece isn't a common shonen manga to begin with, what other shonen manga has that wide range of age demographics? I'm not saying they won't become pointless but we are talking about One Piece right? Okay… There are many things you can discover about the series if you actually look, Kuina's past, Tashigi's issue about her gender which MIRRORS Kuina's.... think that's been resolved? How about Kalifa's comment about her life not being easy to Sanji that also questions his chivalry? How about pretty much all of Nami's fight of being underestimated at each turn? There are many examples, you probably just weren't looking hard enough, man.

on this page when the family is looking down at the newborn child, are there two violets? who is the third girl if no?

So much for Kyros fighting someone famous, lol.
Sucks that he only has one leg. Don't see how he means to defeat Dofla. I guess Rebecca really is her father's daughter.Flashback was really emotional, you could almost feel the pain.
And looks like Burgess didn't use a machine after all. We really need to see more of that fight.
I'm not too happy with the way Sugar was made to faint. But now that Usopp has made another person faint and foam from their mouths, I guess it's confirmed he has Conqueror Haki.

Wow! What a great chapter
I almost teared up at Kyros' backstory
I was expecting Diamante to tell Rebecca that he killed her mother, but I didn't expect him to repeatedly say that. What an asshole
Dat last double page. I knew Usopp wouldn't beat Sugar by her eating the Tatababasco sauce, but man. Just when I thought it was all over. This is probably the most "graphic" Oda has drawn a reaction face
You could make at least three chapters with this one chapter, but it seems like Oda really felt the need to cram it all at once instead of stretching it through the weeks, which could explain why the flashback felt rushed. -

I say it's the queen, some others are saying it's just a midwife.

One club to the face in 742 chapters….and in the context of this certain argument, it's irrelevant. I don't think any fight against a pretty woman character has been won by a man, fighting a way that treats the woman as equal.
It's hard to make them seem equal since if the other gets their ass beat they can't both be at equal levels. Oda does have women get beaten like the previous examples. But considering the pirate world considers mostly of men, OP women is going to be a rare thing in the One Piece world. Boa is OP but she has a history where she was a slave so obviously the Tenryubiito's treated her like crap which would include beatings and she is considered arguably the most beautiful woman in the OP world.

One Piece isn't a common shonen manga to begin with, what other shonen manga has that wide range of age demographics? I'm not saying they won't become pointless but we are talking about One Piece right?
uhm…HxH, Dragonball, Naruto, Death Note? Those are four shonen at the top of my mind that all have a wide range of differently aged people as readers
One Piece is great and all, it has a very dedicated author who greatly respects his own work and his fans, but it really is just a common shonen the way it reads, although a very good and long one
you folks really need to stop making this out to be the holy grail of shonen somehow, it's kinda embarrassing
btw, not even arguing here on DarkHamsters behalf, just wanted to point that out
Edit: btw, where is Lao G? Three officers defeated Franky and he isn't one of them. Last time we saw him he was beating the shit out of toy kyros, right, or did forget something?
It's not even that important, just to get a better look at the whole situation -

That's a good question. Perhaps it is Queen Riku?

Yea he took it pretty rough, I don't think he's been that beat up, ever lol
Those three are the successors of Puffing Tom. They are the Sea Train Trio.
-

Midwife most likely. If the queen was still alive during that point, they would talk about her more in recent events. But so far there hasn't been any mention of the queen. So she must've died a while before Rebecca was born.

We're talking about this right? 88% readers are adults? 50+ years old are more than the 1~18 year old?
Alright not to be a jackass but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, I can believe Dragonball but the rest.. please show me?

Couldn't the queen currently be a toy? Nobody remembers Kyros.
Or by "current events", do you mean in the flashback?
-
Ussop's nose is really rare in One Piece. Only one close to it is Kaku who isn't at Dressrosa.
I beg to differ:

Just because she wasn't show means she was dead? She was probably not relevant enough to be shown.
-
Yeah, I don't think there was a living queen during the flashback. There might have been one at the very beginning when Kyros was arrested but everything points to her having died shortly after Viola was born. Most telling is that she is never mentioned during Doflamingo's coup a as possible threat to his control over the island nor is she ever mentioned by the King as a casualty of said takeover.
-
Excellent chapter. Kyros' flashback was sad as hell. It was epic when he cut off his leg. He just keeps earning more respect from me.

I think it's the queen whom is turned toy, same place as princess dwarf, or dead?

What? If she wasn't relevant enough to be shown then why show her in the flashback? Unless you meant that she was killed in the process, then my b.

Have to agree with Rogue about the final scene. Besides, IMO the Enel face really is overused.

man, you are technical about this, I wasn't prepared at all, haha
Dragonball is crazy popular, so I assumed it just had that by default, Death Note is the kind of "edgy and dark" comic that I imagine a lot douchebags claim to read (you know these people; "I usually don't read comics, since it's for kids and all, but Death Note is really mature and clever snort - HxH is the same too
My point is that as good as One Piece is, it really shouldn't be made out as something that is different from other shonen conceptually. Although the amount of fans and general popularity is extraordinary, I'll give you that
Seven deadly sins is kinda similar, it does all that shonen shit very well, but it is still only that
btw, this isn't some snarky way of me saying that One Piece isn't all that, just saying that less glorifying would be better, does that sound reasonable? -

I don't see how that confirms anything. There have been cases of foamy mouths that have nothing to do with CoC.
It's implied though.

Seeing her newborn grandchild is enough for her to appear…

Couldn't the queen currently be a toy? Nobody remembers Kyros.
Or by "current events", do you mean in the flashback?
Well, it's possible she could be a toy. But then TS was remembering what was happening (he was in a daze when the flashback ended) so if she was a toy she shouldn't be there. So it should be a midwife. I would think Doflamingo would use the queen as a hostage though to threaten King Riku. Not just turn her into a toy and throw her in some dungeon to be forgotten.
Doflamingo threatened Kyros to join him with by saying he was going to kill Scarlett and Rebecca. Riku was also on the run by himself this whole time so I would think he would bring the queen with him if he was on the run. If Doflamingo killed her, that would've been brought up already since he would troll Riku with it. Since none of that occurred, her dying sometime after Viola was born makes the most sense.
-
It was a good chapter. The off-screen fights are really starting to annoy me. But it's alright, as long as the result is great. Though this time it quite wasn't.
First of all, how did Franky lose? Bastille most likely didn't even take part in the battle, and he was defeated by whom? A hairy hug, a crossdresser and a guy in a diaper. That's pretty dissapointing. I mean, look at Dellinger. Franky can easily squash him with one hand, same goes for Pink. Machvise is doing what, floating? How is that any dangerous to you, Franky? And Pink is a surprise attacker, and Franjy lacks speed and reaction, so I guess that was the reason of his loss.
The last panel was surprising, and I liked it. Usopp couldn't so anything against Trebol, it's a pity but it's true. Hopefully he wakes up soon, and fights at least Dellinger. With the toys being turned into human again (giants and fishman too).i can imagine Trebol vein JeanAngoed by Chinjao.Very clear vision.
The flashback was very touching. -
Just because she wasn't show means she was dead? She was probably not relevant enough to be shown.
She's the queen of the Dressrosa. Which would make her relevenant to the story. Esecially in one where the kingdom is overthrown. she's a very high figure hostage for Doflamingo to use against King Riku. Her not being shown either means two possiblities: 1)She's been dead for a while or 2)She's a toy and Oda is saving her for an emotional reunion. But then King Riku should remember her as soon as Sugar's power stop working so we should know if #2 is true very soon.

I was thinking back on Jora's work of art in chapter 722:
She says that she's perfectly depicted the tragedy that befell Dressrosa. After Kyros's flashback, we may have a little more information with which to interpret her work. Sorry if it has already been discussed to death.
I was guessing that maybe Momo is supposed to represent King Riku, with the spikey hair that sort of looks like a crown. He looks like he has fire all around him. Nami looks like she is being used as a puppet, so I figure she might represent the soldiers. Or perhaps she is an actual puppet and represents the toys? Or, if it really is fire around Momo, then maybe Nami is a giant castle-transformed-Pica towering over it all (spitballing). I still have no clue what Chopper is supposed to be. But he appears to be trying to block out the sun. There seems to be a bit of a wing theme going on there, too.
Well, I don't think that Kyros's flashback has made anything clearer, but perhaps one of you sees something that I don't?

Oda's incredible attention to detail makes me think that she is more than just a midwife, but who knows?
-
Is that me or did Kyros escape Doffy and Buffalo simply by base jumping without a parachute ?
And don't tell me that the sky was not cloudy! -
I think Sugas deserves to die or be cuffed with seastone in ID for rest of her life? is she immortal as a kid? She can do anything she want in the world by touching people n turning them into toys and no one will ever know because they have no memory of itt
-
Oh man. I had to finally make an account because of this chapter.
I just love the idea that Usopp accidentally defeats Sugar while all of the dwarves are chanting his name. Imagine all of the accolades he's going to receive for freeing all of the toys. I could even see his bounty going through the roof.
Imagine Sanji's reaction if Usopp's bounty is suddenly higher than his. I can't wait.
-
Also, who put the seastone cuffs on Kyros? All of the DD family members have DFs, no?
-
This was the most amazing chapter of the entire arc. I was sitting there reading the chapter with my hands up in the air, laughing and cheering.
I love when Oda puts suggestions of romance into One Piece, he does it very well! Also glad that Kyros turned out to be Rebecca's biological father, even if he was more or less a father figure to begin with. It means that when Kyros is no longer a toy, Rebecca will still have family. But his story with Scarlet was so cute! But it was absolutely horrifying how he could not hold her, or that she died having forgotten about him. And what a badass, cutting off his own leg to fight!
Oda built up Usopp's fight for so long that I was hoping he would knock out Sugar intentionally, rather than by losing….but part of me hopes that he did that on purpose just to scare her, though somehow I really doubt it. I'm a little disappointed that Usopp's win was accidental, since now his reputation as a pirate and possible legendary status will have been made in a similar way to Buggy. Like it was more circumstantial rather than due to his own power...though I suppose making a creepy ass face is a unique trait of his now...
or maybe I'm just thinking too hard about this.
But any way, ROCKIN' CHAPTER. It was worth waiting two weeks for! _;

@Buggy:

Yeah, that doesn't really make sense. Especially with him still having a sword. Probably just a screwup on Oda's part. Possibly one of Doflamingo's regular grunts like the ones in the casino. I don't really see it getting explained unless it ends up as a SBS question.
-
@Buggy:

That's an interesting possibility. Are there any side-effects from being turned back into a human? I don't think so mostly because the fruit power is being "deactivated" with her becoming unconscious.
As to what the mob will do to her…by all accounts the mob would tear her to shreds, but because this is One Piece we're talking about it'll be something silly like super-gluing steel gauntlets onto her hands.

Perhaps Lao G or Dellinger? I don't think they have fruits.

@Buggy:

Pretty sure we've seen a DF user put sea stone cuffs on another one before. A spider-looking marine and Marco in the Marineford battle come to mind. He held the cuffs with some kind of stick before he got them on Marco, I think.
-
It's like people forget Doula's crew also has 2000 or so Mooks.
-
I look forward to how the anime does this. This chapter was way too fast for anything really meaningful to be done; or for any of the emotion to really catch on.
But Ussop's face was glorious.

That was an amazing ending.

DD has a String fruit, I could see him using that to slap Cuffs on someone without touching them himself.
-
@Light:
The flashback felt really rushed again! What was the point making Scarlett hate Kyros initially if she just forgave him in few panels? :getlost: On the other hand her death was really sad.
Also Usopp. I was really hoping a Straw Hat outside of monster trio would have his time to shine and defeat one of the big players for once. But no. He got swatted by Trebol like that fly earlier. :getlost:
But the last page almost made up for all that!
The last page !? Are you alright ? Look really closely…
!
There is an other one in the flashback.
-
The bigger question here is how the hell did Kyros escape while carrying Riku with Doflamingo and most of his officers in the room?
-
The last page !? Are you alright ? Look really closely…
There is an other one in the flashback.
You become a fanboy and suddenly that's all people think you are… :ninja:
Man can't think how hard it must be for Nia and Zachri!
Besides Kizaru is still my number one! I'm just obsessing over Delly while he's still relevant enough to obsess.
