@No:
If that is the case I'd like to nominate Epoida for 18 Best New Member and_23 Friendliest_.

I hate looking back at my old posts.

I'd actually forgotten I wasn't here yet in April XD
That is a supremely great chew-out though, as far as such things go. I also learned a lot from it :D
Oh, and I'm not sorry for Satori-Gollum (Satorum?). Both are unstable, evil and obsessed with round things.

You don't say? I was considering nominating this person too in those categories (actually I have other candidates and it's hard to decide). Unfortunately I live in the same time zone.
-
It will be a while yet, I imagine, given only two categories are open at a time and we still have the OPCT categories to get through before we get to individual members. Chances are for most categories that a fair proportion of the forum has similar lists in mind too - certainly I couldn't imagine either of the aforementioned categories not containing the aforementioned person. But I suppose there is always a chance…
-
Oh I WONDER who's going to win Best New Member. :ninja:
-
I'm trying to figure out which Women thread moment to nominate for best chewout.
I'm trying not to automatically just round up more Zephos moments, but man its hard. I'm leaning towards the "Kuinas dad was right!!!" debacle currently.

They are so repetitive that I can't pick out a specific moment.
It's like trying to remember what happened in Shawshank and what happened in Green Mile. -
About what Robby said in the Nominations thread:
Would justifying the nominations be a good way to prevent that sort of thing from happening?
You don't need to justify your nominations. All I ask is that, if something is already in the opposite category, you think about it before nominating it for the other. Its not a huge issue, it just gets weird when there's a flood of opposite noms. Not everything can be best and worst at the same time.

Sorry Crystal, you're not allowed to win it more than once. :P

Print Error is like the better version of me so technically it's almost like I'm winning it again this year.

You're somehow being both modest and arrogant at the same time.
No offense. I'm impressed, actually.

Thanks, I guess? XD
I don't think it's that sure a bet though. Been lots of lovely folks joining the forum lately!
-
Nah, you won the award the day you registered. It's about time we finally get there.
-
I'm flattered, but really, that feels a little discourteous to the other new members. Let's see how it goes, no?
I'm not here for glory anyway. I'm mostly here for strange photoshops and bad puns.
-
As much as I agree here, the underdog mentality I can't shake makes me want to nominate and vote otherwise. I hate foregone conclusions with a burning passion.
-
Oh, I'm not nominating Print either, as much as I would love to. My nod will be going to noob, no question about that.
-
Perhaps we should have a Best New Member(that isn't Print Error) category.
-
There wasn't one for Chrissie either, so I'm thinking this is fairly fair.
-
I prefer nominate some ordinary guy.
-
@Print:

I don't dislike anyone, but I agree with this. It's true that sometimes a particular nom in a category seems obvious to many people, but casting it down as solid and ignoring all other possibilities, especially when it comes to member awards, is really discourteous and kind of rude to others in the category. Moreso when a number of people are doing it (and it goes on for a good several months). Everyone is obviously allowed to give their opinions as they wish, but a lot of 2013 members have put in significant time and effort being a part of this forum, and it might be more considerate to not basically tell them that they don't compare.
-
Yeah, but discussing it so matter-of-factly eliminates any sense of suspense or democracy involved with the nomination process. I mean, yeah, it's an obvious conclusion, but I dunno, I'm just really uncomfortable as an event coordinator to speak so candidly about something like that. My goal is to make this as inclusive and considerate as possible. It just goes against my style, I guess. I at least try to be an impartial host.~
-
Yeah, the Best New Member award is terrible this year.
Noob pretty much shaped the character tournament, Epoida is an extremely lovely person and really active in the general section…while Print Error is pretty much the "jack of all trades" type of poster. I guess Print will win because of that, but it's kind of sad that there can only be one winner.
If I had anything to say I would rename them the AP's Angels and simply go with an overpowered group-nomination that pulverizes everything in it's path.
!
-
There's over 250 posters that made introduction threads alone since last year, there should be at least a little competition once names start getting named. I think Purple Hermit or Robzilla might have a chance, myself.
(Khainiwest2 however is not eligible.)
Also, since in the past we've done the AP tourney in December, and this year we're doing it in January… for this year only we'll be including December of the previous year... So this year noms go back to December 2012, 13 months to choose from.
-
This is off the record, but Getsuya seems like he's been here forever, and I totally freaked when I saw he joined only last month. I don't frequent enough threads for my opinion to be conclusive, but the guy just blended into things in a way that took me by complete surprise and that's probably why I'm going to throw my nomination that way.
-
Hoho, just in case I'm not around, will someone please nominate these for me? Thank you.
Luffy vs Jinbe for Best Tournament Match
Frank vs knarF for Best Filler Match
The "Jinbe Plumber" campaign for Best Campaign
And No Maam for Most Memorable/Friendliest :) -
Well, honestly, this is one of the major problems and flaws that this particular category has.
Choosing a BEST human individual at anything is incredibly unfair towards everyone else who competes in that category unless there is a very definitive set of measurements that can be used to accurately decide who is the best. Sprinters are pretty much the only thing I can think of in that regard. It's intrinsically problematic, and I think the only reason we keep coming back to it is because it's a tradition. Like Chew Outs, which in worst cases are nothing but people cruelly ganging up on someone who thinks in a way that might be strange and potentially harmful. It's probably something that we should talk about getting rid of at some stage.
But I don't think it's really fair to stop people from talking about how they like particular posters either. The format that we have is cruel in the sense that when you name someone it automatically means that you don't name a whole group of others who might in all honesty be just as valuable as your nominee, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you don't appreciate the other people just as much. People just ascribe different meanings to the title of the best new member and pick someone who is closest to the criteria they have set. If we called it "Most Constructive", for instance, it would instantly be completely different. It just seems like we're snubbing people and being awfully inconsiderate when there is no way for anyone to peer into the minds of those people making the calls and saying things.
This entire category should be about user appreciation, and while I agree that it might seem unfair to many people and apologize if what I posted earlier hurt someone, I don't think it's completely unreasonable to say someone is a lock for the title. It doesn't really mean they're the best and the others aren't. Like, to me, Print is the one person whose contributions have helped shape the overall atmosphere and the direction of the forum the most this year, and I want her to win for that.
But Epoida is by far the person with most effort put into being nice to others and making them smile, noob is the person who singlehandedly made the tournament that much more incredible, Purple Hermit is one of the most intelligent guys on the board, Robzilla is a quality poster who rarely ever falters, and all the others have their sides too. The only way to choose someone from that list is to decide what particular thing you want to draw attention to.
I wish that there was a way to communicate all that to all the people in question, other than just hoping that they get nominated, but as long as this is the case you can only really give credit to one person.
-
-
It's up to the individual voter to determine what the qualifications for a given category are. If you want, say, Most Dedicated to apply to people who campaign endlessly in the Tournament, that's good. If you think it should be for somebody who combs through the internet to find various goodies, that's also good.
The only time anything should ever be considered a lock for a category is if they're the only nomination, period.
-
wait I always thought Ballot was actually Ubiq but just now they were both viewing the thread and now they just posted at the same time ugh
back to the drawing board I guess…
-
Wait, aren't we all forgetting one new member? One who rise from the ashes of our dearly departed parrot?
-
I'm not a new member, lol. And I'm not even good.
Honestly, just look at me. Here I am, trying to be nice and appreciative to as many people as I can because I more or less love them all, but I get caught up in a stupid choice of words because of an awful category that we have and end up sounding like an inconsiderate bastard which I really try to make a point of not ever being. To think that I was once nominated for Friendliest. =.=

@Toraish:

Problem is that there's a big difference between saying that you like someone and they should win, and saying that they are going to win and it's a foregone conclusion. In public, on a forum thread, and as an event coordinator. I don't think the problem is about an inherent aspect of the nature of the tournament as you kinda make it sound, we haven't had this problem for the past two awards IIRC. People can easily say that they appreciate someone without making it sound like they appreciate others less.

That's the entire point of these Awards really.
-
Honestly, this is making me feel hugely uncomfortable now. I appreciate the sentiment, but yeah. Sorry.
Things are a lot more fun when there's a sense of uncertainty about the whole thing. Just because I stand to benefit from this doesn't mean I don't think it so, and if Jabra's group award were I thing, I'd rather campaign for that XD
Vote for me, don't vote for me, it's really up to you. I don't really have any business telling you what to do. But if this isn't fun then what's the point?
I just. Argh. flails helplessly

I could've sworn on my life that Robzilla has always been here.
It's a hand in glove fit for that guy and the manga section. A section that desperately needs less stupidity.
That brave little light facing unbelivable darkness might be slightly more deserving than Print.
-
@Ballot:
No need to be inssssulting.
I'm sorry master
have a cookie, master
That's the entire point of these Awards really.
I thought it was so that Robby could make people stare at his avatar unblinkingly for ten minutes trying to catch every image in his avatar
because that's what I do every time the avatar awards come around and his name surfaces

Maybe try to pretend that everyone's talking about Fred?
in fact we should just go ahead and set up a forum filter changing Print Error to Fred

Hey, I remember people being slightly upset over the same thing in the past. I know I was at some point. It was just swept under the rug pretty quickly because people realized making a big fuss out of it made everyone feel bad and wasn't good for anyone.
I don't know how saying that someone is going to win and that someone should win really differ, even as an event coordinator. If I say someone is going to win, I really only mean that I think that they have a good chance of winning the title on the basis of what I've seen people say and how I've seen them act. There's always the probability involved, unless people think that the coordinators would go and fix the results, which I'm not about to go and do as people should well know if they know me and the other mods at all. And despite being a mod, I still retain my right to normal posting.
I'm not saying it in the fashion of everyone else being far below Print in any respect, or at least I'm not trying to. You of all people should know that much. :/

Fred's my cousin. And my uncle. And my grandfather. One of those names that runs in the family, I guess.
Anyway, just call me WK because I'm turning AWARD into AWKWARD.

A land in turmoil cried out for a hero.
He was Robzilla, a Scottish forumgoer forged in the heat of the powerlevel debates.
The reasoning, the levelheadedness, the quotability. His posting would change the forum.
-
Andrew W. K. clearly.
-
So much serious thoughts about a topic so much more silly.
-
All I'm saying is, I'm a shoo-in for Laziest Poster.
Case in point, there is no Laziest Poster category, and I made absolutely no effort whatsoever to get one included!
