Wow, seriously? PH is some people's least favorite anime arc already? I can tolerate FI but can see why others would not like it, especially how the anime handled it, but I feel PH was handled the best it could be (considering Toei's track record). Smoker vs. Law is one of the best animated fights I've seen in OP for a long time (last time we had a beautifully animated "fight scene" like that was probably Luffy vs. Smoker in Marineford and that was a short skirmish). Hell, this arc handled all the fights pretty damn well (as in they were pretty well animated save a couple) but at least they weren't plagued w/ panning stills to convey all the action. Sanji's entrance against Vergo was weakly done, but the fight (even the filler portions) was done well and animated nicely. Luffy vs. Ceasar R1 was just okay but entertaining. Luffy vs. Ceasar R2 was a treat (aside from that one "There, there, there!" scene) w/ lots of movement and fast paced action, Luffy against Monet was interesting (really chilling…pun intended), Tashigi/Zoro vs. Monet also had some nice animation. Some complain Zoro's final attack was done badly, but I found it serviceable. Smoker vs. Vergo...hot damn that had to be some of the best filler fighting I'd seen since some of the extensions w/ Luffy vs. (Human) Lucci. Hell, I even found all of the Franky vs. Baby 5/Buffalo stuff (filler too) to be very good. Oh, and let's not forget Smoker vs. Doflamingo. Art aside in some portions, this was a very welcome filler fight that gives anime fans what we want...proper extension of a scene that was just left out of the manga. The fight was decently paced, showed off some good moves for each fighter, and also showed how intimidating Doflamingo can be. Is the arc perfect? Of course not, there are definitely some episodes that could outright be skipped and one wouldn't miss a thing, but this is an arc I feel was done justice (especially when we've seen how Toei can REALLY drag the hell out of an arc).
What's your favorite and least-favorite arc in the anime?
-
-
Favorite: essentially everything before Enies Lobby
Least favorite: Fishman Island
-
My favorite arc has got to be Alabasta, with my least favorite being Thriller Bark (if only for the pacing, the content was excellent).
Though I rank things differently when you consider sagas which I think is more appropriate when discussing favorite parts of the story. In which case my favorite would become the Water 7 saga with the Thriller Bark saga remaining my least favorite (still for the pacing). Throughout the entire anime TB has been the only time I've considered skipping some canon episodes to get to the good stuff, at least in my initial run through when I was an anime only One Piece fan. I use this when defining sagas/arcs - http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Chapters_and_Volumes.
Hear me out on this next idea, because I am going to defend Fishman Island, albeit with (my) reasons. So as a OP fan I only started reading the manga once I caught up with the anime, which was during Punk Hazard. Being as such I experienced everything OP first when it came to the anime. I still skipped fillers, but I had nothing to compare it to for better or for worse. So when I got to Fishman Island, I was excited. The crew was back together for the first time in 100 episodes and there was finally going to be a classic feeling OP arc. Honestly I loved FI for it's humor (I don't care what anyone says, I loved the nosebleed as a plot device), characters, and a truly classic Dragon Ball-esque feeling of payoff. When the SH's appeared on the battle field in the shark, that was one of my most thrilling moments in the entire series. I never once questioned the pacing of the arc, and it probably helped that I experienced it for the first time all at once without waiting for weekly episodes.
Now of course there are other complaints such as art, and animation, but I don't deny those issues. For me personally I just don't really notice those bad things, especially when I'm in marathon mode and don't even have enough time to analyze each episode. I'm just ignorant to things such as art and animation directors, as I don't really care to learn about these things. I just enjoyed it as every other arc that came before and it felt awesome.
In retrospective though after reading the manga and watching the One Pace version of it I truly understand the issues people had with it, especially if one were following it on a weekly basis. That is why I consider myself lucky that I could view it for the first time, all at once without any knowledge of animation or art issues. They do say ignorance is bliss.
On the other hand I worry that I will view the next arc in the anime in a darker light granted Toei makes the same mistakes as on PH and FI, considering how much I enjoy it in the manga.
-
Marineford is my favorite. Skypiea my least
-
Top; G-8, Long Ring Long Land (including the mini-filler arc), Impel Down and Water 7.
Bottom; Skypiea, Warship Island Arc, Spa Island and Movie Arcs.
-
The one where they go to cloud city, it was so boring and i thought they pulled it a lot. And my favourite one was the one where all of them go their seperate ways for training and meet and what a flashy reunion they had.
-
W7/EL was my personal favorite. It was a perfect saga. Insane emotional impact, great villains, amazing fight scenes. Plus the plot flowed together really nicely. Just all around amazing saga. (Though it did drag on a bit in the beginning before the cp9 fights started)
My worst would probably be Skypiea. It wasn't horrible, but it was pretty boring and everyone acted super OOC. I mean, what was up with Chopper suddenly turning into a complete cry baby after having fought Baroque Works people in Alabasta? Also, I didn't care much for the Shandorians or Sky people, as much as I cared about the Alabasta citizens, Galley La Company etc. Also, some of the villains were just flat out bad (Except Enel though, he was awesome.) I can honestly say that the Davy Back Fight arc entertained me more than Skypiea did (Epic Zoro and Sanji fight.) It's cool if other people enjoy Skypiea, but I just really couldn't care much for it.
-
One of my favorite arcs would have to be the Skypiea Arc. I mean, they went to an island up in the sky! The character designs were pretty cool, the storyline was decent enough, and there was a fair balance of comedy (and balls:ninja:). The only complaint I have would be the parts that dragged on longer than they needed to.
Now for least favorite, is it fair game for me to say the Davy Back Fight Arc? This is kind of the point where I stopped watching the anime episodes consecutively. Darn that Foxy…
-
The Water 7 arc, followed closely by the Alabasta arc, has been the only ones that could be rated 4/5 or above.
Marineford arc is 3/5 exactly.
Punk Hazard and Thriller Bark are 2/5.
-
My favorite arc is Arlong Park, favorite filler arc is G8, least favorite arc is Skypiea.
-
Alabasta is my favorite by far
least favorite has to be fodder island with punk hazard close behind if it wasn't for vergo
-
my favourite arc is dressrosa - impel down
least favourite is water 7 - drums island
-
Enies lobby is my fav but robin and franky are my favorite characters so I'm kind of biased.
-
So far I really liked Alabasta and Arlong Park and Sanji's intro arc (but then, I really like Don Krieg)
I' not quite done with it but so far Enies Lobby has really been sitting on my head. -___-
-
I liked Water 7 / Enies Lobby and Skypeia but hated the Impel Down and Drum kingdom arc (Even tho it did introduce Chopper)
-
Why do people say Sky Island was pointless, no sky island, no shell dials, no gold, thousand sunny! Case close it might have been one of the most important arcs.
-
Water 7 and Enies Lobby are my favorite arcs, and my least favorite was probably Fishman Island. At the same time, this pretty much reflects my feelings on the arcs in the manga too.
-
my favorite arc is Arabasta, and least is fishman-island, Fishman-island should be the boring arc in the whole story line….
-
Pretty much the same as the manga actually meaning Marineford and Enies Lobby are my favorites and my least favorite is Fishman Island. I dont think the anime version of Punk Hazard was as bad as people says.
-
To me enies lobby is sort off like the lich king expansion:
A lot of people loved it, I didn't think all too much off it. By no means bad, but not better than Arabasta ( or Skyepia to my lights ).
Favorite:
Marineford was fcking insane and I find myself reading it again over and over.
Least favorite is Davy Back. That arc was so obnoxious I was grinding my teeth.
-
Fav one? Arlong arc, was when I started to really love One Piece, Davy Back Fight is a close second and I show it to everyone to show how fun OP is. My least? Hated Enies Lobby/Water 7 other then Franky and Paulie I thought the whole thing was boring as crap.
-
@Monkey:
I liked Water 7 / Enies Lobby and Skypeia but hated the Impel Down and Drum kingdom arc (Even tho it did introduce Chopper)
As I'm a bit lazy this time of day with typing I'll let the above quote speak for me. I think Skypieia was the best exploration arc the crew has had to date. For drama, frayed allegiances and all-out battles Water 7/Enies Lobby was the most exciting arc to date (up to this point in the manga Rob Lucci has to be the toughest physical opponent Luffy has faced and I enjoyed every minute of it!)
I hope one day the animation team and Oda have the wisdom to turn it into a two-movie retelling of these arcs in the story as I think with a film level budget these could be amazing. They're so ripe for it and you could tell Oda was firing on all cylinders with these arcs (too many momentous moments and flashbacks to mention tbh…)
Worst arc has to go to Drum Kingdom unfortunately. Love that they foud a new crewmate in Chopper but the villain was so goofy that even by One Piece standards I couldn't buy him. As close to filler-like material in the manga as you can get for me tbh...
-
thiller bark least fav
arlong park arc sanji restaurant arc da bess seriously pacing back then was so good.. :[
scenes were not stretched like they are now.. :/ -
My favourite is Marineford and least favourite is Skypiea (too boring).
Guys go check out AnimeFanatic99 on Youtube my new channel (well a month old) its about anime with amvs, ranking and theory videos.
-
My favourite arc is Marineford, and my least favourite are foxy arc and drum island arc, they just bored the hell out of me.
-
My least favorite arc is undoubtedly the Long Ring Long Land Arc. It was so excruciatingly boring that I had to skip every single episode of the entire anime that Foxy appeared in just to maintain my sanity.
My favorite arc would definitely have to be the Alabasta Arc. It was very entertaining, had an abundance of deep feels, and made me love the characters Crocodile and Vivi.
A close second is the Amazon Lily Arc. Why? Because Hancock, that's why. -
my favourite is Marineford
-
My favorite is Impel Down. The structure of the arc is so different from anything we've seen in the series. And the theme of the prison break was very interesting. It wasn't about fighting the bad guy, it was about a rescue mission. It was also cool to see some villains from earlier in the show come back, but working with Luffy this time. Oh, and I loved the villains, if you can call them villains. Magelland and Hannyabal were both very badass,
My least favorite, I guess would be Davy Fight Back. I don't know, I think I like the arc, but I always wind out skipping it when I rewatch the anime.
-
Am I the only one who likes the anime adaptations? Alot of these comments seem to focus on the anime and how bad it is compared to the manga.
Favorite: Arabasta was really good and introduced Ace, Sabaody Archipelago was really good short and sweet not much filler either, Water 7 The character development from Usopp really shapes his character, Enies Lobby you know EXACTLY why, and Marineford has been pretty good so far but I haven't finished it yet. Amazon Lily's pretty good too.Worst: I fucking hate Skypiea the concept was good and the villain was certainly formidable since he was one of the first logias the straw hats had to face aside from smoker. The pacing though was atrocious, same goes with Thriller bark. Thriller bark had a terrible villain in my opinion. These arcs both felt like there were dragging on for FOREVER. Davy back fight..just no never again.
-
My most favourite arc is absolutely Marine Ford, that's epic and I think there will be no any arcs can replace this arc :D (just my thought)
And the least, maybe is Water 7, it's too boring and long, i have to skip almost epidoses just to jump to the battle. -
i have to skip almost epidoses just to jump to the battle.
Well there's the problem. The story is what matters, not the battles.
-
My least favorite arc : Ring long land, it was so bad. I skipped thought the whole thing I couldn't stand it
Favorite so far:water 7/enies lobby it was brilliant, I loved all the new attacking techniques that each character went through -
Favourite Arc would be Enies Lobby/Saboady Archipelago; I just can't choose which I like more.
Least Fav would be the Rainbow Mist Arc before the Jaya Arc; you thought Long Ring Long Arc was boring…..........this arc was worse.
-
Well my favorite arc is, without a doubt, the Water 7/Enies Lobby arc while my least favorite is either the thriller bark or Long Ring Long Arc*arcs.
-
So far, I think my least favorite is the G-8 filler arc. It just felt like it dragged on forever even though it was only 11 episodes. The only redeeming point to that arc was seeing Usopp without a hat or headband on. He's rather sexy when his hair is left loose like that. Heh.
My favorite so far is Thriller Bark, simply because it's the introduction of Brook, who quickly took the #1 spot from Usopp of my favorite One Piece character. Now Usopp is #2. Everyone meeting Brook is hilarious, and I love his reaction when he makes the joke about his hair then forgets for a moment that he does actually have hair. The way he looks as he floofs his afro is just too adorable.
-
Favorite: Loguetown. Something about it was so enjoyable in the anime. I even dug the fillers with like Daddy the Father and Sanji's cooking competition. The anime captured this air of "moving forward toward greater horizons while reflecting on the past".
Least Favorite: If we're counting fillers, Warship Island. Just obnoxious. Especially its placement and even adding Eric to the monumental Reverse Mountain climb -.-
-
So far, I think my least favorite is the G-8 filler arc. It just felt like it dragged on forever even though it was only 11 episodes. The only redeeming point to that arc was seeing Usopp without a hat or headband on.
G-8 is far and away the best filler arc in the series
-
-
Favorites are Sabaody for plot and badassery and Thriller Bark for adventure and gags, even though the latter does drag a little bit.
Least favorites are Drum Kingdom and Skypeia, even though they both have gorgeous art. Drum Kingdom isn't eventful enough and while the beginning of Skypeia is fantastic and the flashback is an all-time favorite, the minute Enel takes Nami the pacing feels like it becomes glacial.
-
MY favourite would be a tie between sabaody and marineford. Least favorite is Davy back fight. UGHHHH FOXY IS THE MOST ANNOYING THING IN THE UNIVERSE.
-
My favorite is Water 7/Enies Lobby hands down, with Skypiea a few notches below that. That bell, man, that bell.
Least favorite in the anime is Marineford. I like the arc a lot, but I couldn't handle that pacing, argh. Overall least favorite, though? Uhh…Orange Town?
-
Favourite so far: Water 7/Enis Lobby (G-8 coming a close second)
Least Favourite: Goat Island arc (First time in the anime so far that I felt compelled to skip an arc)
-
Favourite - I'd have to say Thriller Bark. Even before I got to that point in the story, I was fascinated by the nightmarish concept and the dark tones, plus the introduction of characters like Brook and Perona made me love it before I even saw it.
Least favourite - It's a tie between G-8 and Punk Hazard.
G-8, because it was needlessly long and felt like it went on for the sake of it. Long Ring Long Land dragged out a bit, but at least it was kinda funny.
Punk Hazard, while I do think it had some good points (Ceaser is one of my favourite OP villains, the re-introduction of Law was fantastic and it set the stage for Dressrosa quite well) and some of the fights were good (Law vs Smoker, Zoro vs Monet, Law/Smoker vs Vergo), the pace and the level of threat in this arc were RIDICULOUS.
Let's outline some of the reasons for that, shall we?
From Smiley's introduction onwards, the next LOT of episodes consisted of everybody doing one thing - RUNNING. Every other scene was either G-5 or the Straw Hats running from that stupid gas. I get that it was deadly to the touch but we don't need to see every random marine right before they get turned into stone.
What made it even worse was the end of the arc, when it turned out - Oh, it's okay! The gas only kills you if you're petrified for more than 12 hours! There was never any danger, after all! All those pointless episodes where you were running from the gas were all for nothing!
COME ON ODA.
Also, that phonecall at the start ("It's cold! Is this the boss?") was flashed-back to TOO MANY TIMES. They over-analysed the hell out of that phone call and they'd look for any excuse to show it again. Personally, I found it quite annoying.
-
Enies Lobby in Anime was my favorite
Least Favorite - Any of the Filler arcs and Skypeia although I just don't like Skypeia in general so
-
My favorite arc is Enies Lobby. I loved the villains, the fights and it had the best flashback.
My least favorite is the Syrup Village arc. It started badly with that man in the treasure chest, and then the whole Kaya situation and Kuro's silly crew members did not help. I remember almost giving up on One Piece at that point. But then came the Arlong Park and Alabasta and I was hooked.
