Hey, I'm not anonymous. I use my actual name when I make a point!
Phh! 'Robby'. I'm so sure that's even a real name.

I saw Strong World will be released by Funimation in the US on November 19th. Any chance we'll see chapter / volume 0 in some format?
Can you put in a good word for us Stephen? =P
I would love a print copy of chapter 0. I don't know what else was in volume 0….maybe sketches? If they need to fill out a full volume, perhaps they could add the two versions of Romance Dawn, Cross Epoch, and some of the Omakes or something. Technically I already have Romance Dawn and Cross Epoch in print through SJ Magazine (same as Yahiko no Sakabato).
I mean, I just found Rurouni Kenshin Restoration in B&N today. Had no idea that was getting a physical release. Hopefully that means we'll see the physical volumes of One-Punch Man stateside.

It's the weirdest thing; I want to renew my membership to take advantage of that $20 deal they're offering, yet it seems the only option I have is to gift a membership to someone else. They even say in their FAQ that renewals are entirely possible. So what's the deal here?

16 characters of what?

ICv2 put out the top 25 Manga Properties for spring of 2013:http://www.icv2.com/articles/markets/26210.html One Piece is up to number 10 from its spot at number 14 for the year of 2012. Also, last year at this time One Piece ranked 15.

At least it beat Death Note. Good.
I imagine Soul Eater's rise is thanks to Toonami.
-
That is really good news. We moved up really well.
-
what happened with fairy tail? i thought it has more reader outside japan?
-
Not really. Well in america. Its decently popular.

Haha, Sailor Moon is still up there?! xD

If only the anime was as lucky. :sigh:

Nice! I eventually upgraded my Japanese standard edition of Monster with a 9-volume Perfect Edition (including all color pages, large format) a few years back.
(not my pic)

Oh that's just
Damn enviable. Wow those look good
-
Nice! I wasn't able to find anything past volume 10. Might as well sell the ones I have to collect the omnibus versions.
Stephen, I'm not sure if you have any pull with this kind of stuff, but when / if the time comes for a special edition of One Piece, it would be nice if we got a 2-in-1 omnibus (like the ones they're doing for Monster) or something closer to the Viz Signature volumes. I have 20th CB in that format and it's really easy to read without bending the spine. Having a 2-in-1 type release with similar cover / binding and color pages for One Piece would really be the best case scenario. No expectations for this to happen anytime soon, just a suggestion. I mean this for Bleach and Naruto as well since those series would likely get that treatment first.
I'm not against the Vizbig volumes but they're a bit clunky and difficult to hold / open all the way. Oda does a lot of double page spreads these days, so having a format which facilitates opening to see the center of the page without bending the spine is really ideal. Doesn't seem they're giving any more series the vizbig treatment anyway.
The omnibus voluems for Dragon Ball, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, and Fullmetal Alchemist are really low quality, so not something that would warrant buying another copy.
Color pages, 2-in-1, Zoro, omnibus format that they're using for Evangelion and Monster? I would definitely be interested.
-
I'm guessing if there's any special One Piece Collector's Signature VizBIG edition release in the future it might involve using the current (digital only at the moment) color volumes being released in Japan.
But I'm guessing if VIZ ever does release OP this way (nice looking volumes, all in color, correct names, etc) they'd have to go the way of Gundam Origin and have them be limited/one print run only releases. Re-releasing the entire series this way …. definitely won't be cheap so best to avoid reprints and have it come out as a Limited time only thing.
Of course this is just an idea that could be done at some point in the far off future. Closer reality might be more like Viz does the same thing with the Color volumes and releases them digital only.

Uh, by color do you mean the actual color spreads and few color pages?
Because believe it or not, black and white is not only a legit style choice, but the style Oda's drawn everything to work in.
A colorized after the fact edition would be awful. -

A colorized after the fact edition would be awful.Exactly this. The digitally colored chapters Shueisha is selling? They look so wrong.
If there's going to be a Viz Big, the only color pages should be the spreads and the stuff that was originally in color. -

A colorized after the fact edition would be awful.I actually like Dragon Ball's re-release in color in Weekly Shonen Jump. I love One Piece in Black & White, but hopefully One Piece gets this same sort of digitally colored re-release 20 years from now.
-
I seriously think you people just like color for colors sake.

@Monkey:
I seriously think you people just like color for colors sake.
Nope, just like seeing things done differently. I enjoyed the chapters every time I've read them in Black & White so why wouldn't I want to see them in color?
-
IMO coloring that aren't done by Oda's hand actually ruin the effect of his art. All One Piece characters and creatures have crazy colors, but Oda's coloring style manage to make them all fit and still look beautiful (as you can see from the color spreads), coloring done by other people (even in the anime) can never looks as good.

Black&white will still exist afterwards…there's no problem liking color manga.
Anyways, bleh at this weeks bonus Narutard issue
-
Yeah, I think this is the second time they've done a special Naruto bonus chapter, though it's really just a retooling of the first one they did. I tweeted the suggestion to them that next time, they should do a special One Piece issue instead.

You never know what might be in store.

Any word on the Viz app for Android being available in the UK yet/soon?

Probably because of printing costs, licensing costs, and other factors.
They're definitely cheaper then that on other websites (I've seen them for ~$5 on Walmart's site, and they can be even lower if you get them used). Digitally, they're at a set price of $4.99 (but are apparently on sale right now for $3.99), so that's another option to get them that's cheaper then the retail price.

They sure having it hard… guess i'm lucky for being Indonesian then... (because of One Piece.. lol)

Android App is out now in the UK.
Edit: Also this one works now. Not sure which one your supposed to use. Is the first one only if you want to buy weekly?

Next Monday's US Jump will include the Strong World one-shot (Chapter 0). Just thought I'd mention it.

Will they put that in a volume at some point as bonus material? Viz hasn't been releasing the databooks, and Strong World isn't showing up in theaters with the Volume 0 here obviously. So they really ought to add it in a collection somewhere.
-
Would be cool if they put it in some vbolume for promotion for the movie

Looks like it hasn't been posted yet, but Viz's One Piece volume 69 cover has been released on their One Piece site. Glad they kept the slash, but on the other hand, it looks weird.
Here it is:

Here it is:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/images.viz.com/products/1421561433.jpgIt looks weird because for the logo and cover text, Viz has basically consistently ignored Oda's color schemes since Vol.1 for their own design ideas. Which has dulled and robbed lots of the best covers of their full kickass color sense (and in a rare instance or two improved on it).
This is definitely one of the worst examples though, the blue gold thing they've been using for the NEW WORLD volumes clashes horribly with the black red scheme of the original.
I doubt they really care, but there is mad need for color theory in their graphic design department.
I wonder why they bother though, what, are they afraid the original schemes aren't marketable enough? -
I just wonder why they felt they need to cover the Kana with something else. I prefer the saga names over the ugly red "ONE PIECE" they used to have, but what's the point?
Don't tell me it's "NEP ECE", because that excuse only works for Japanese readers.
-
I dislike the Viz arc headers, even disregarding colours.
Like the last volume of Skypiea has a "Water Seven" header … because it contains like the first 3 chapters of the Davy Back Fight >_>

Yeah that's bothered me too lol.
And Volume 50 being "Saobody". -
Not to mention the ridiculously large numbers which always cover up way too much of the artwork in the bottom right corner.
It's a shame One Piece came out at a time when Viz wanted to make all their SJ Imprint volumes have a uniform numbering format. Newer series like Toriko and Bakuman just replicate the Japanese covers. They had the perfect opportunity to do the same with One Piece both at the time they accelerated the release and when they got to the New World. Maybe someday if the series goes the way I think it might and there's a whole third part / act to the series after Luffy becomes Pirate King, then we'll see the changes made …. wishful thinking.

According to Viz Manga website, the price to digital manga is going from 4.99 to 6.99. This is starting October 1st. I'm not sure what to think of this. Like is that a sign that sales aren't were they need to be or what?
-
Dear Reader,
Starting October 1, 2013, our regular digital manga volumes will be offered at a new price of $6.99* (US/CAN).
Our regular print manga prices will remain unchanged at a list price of $9.99 (US/CAN).This was a difficult decision, but one we need to make to keep up with the cost of gathering great digital manga. Manga purchases by fans worldwide help support hundreds of artists, writers, editors, producers and now engineers who bring you this great content in digital form. These contributors pour their hearts and minds into bringing this content to you, and your purchases allow us to compensate them fairly.
Over the last few years, VIZ has made a lot of investments to bring you digital manga in a variety of formats. Today you can access VIZManga on the web, and iOS, Android and Kindle apps. The same great content is also available on Nook and Kobo devices. In the next few weeks we will be expanding to two new platforms to give you even more options. These investments would not have been possible without your help. Thank you!
We hope you will join us in supporting creators who bring us our favorite stories. In turn, VIZ will work tirelessly to bring your favorite manga to you anytime, anywhere.
In the meantime, please take advantage of our ongoing 20% off sale over the next few days. Our prices for regular manga will also return to the low price of $4.99 from September 3rd through the end of the month. So if you have been holding out buying volumes of your favorite series, buy now!
Kind regards,
Your friends at VIZ- VIZBIG and other select manga titles currently not priced regularly at $4.99 (US/CAN) will also change accordingly.
That is not funny. 40% increase ($2) in prices is quite a bit and sudden. I've just spend a lot of money on digital viz titles during the 20% sale and there are so many titles left I want to get my hands on.
-
Yeah, can we please get Strong World Chapter 0 released in one of the volumes in print? Any chance it could be put into volume 69 or 70? It needs to be released somehow over here.
-
anyone know why 68 is being released on a sunday, more over anyone have it yet?
-

As has been said, they really really rarely immediately show up on shelves. It could take weeks before you see them in stores.
-
I don't think it makes much sense to increase the prices of digital manga. It will only hurt the sales.
