I wonder if this will make the MOBA communities less horrible.

Wonder if they will recognize DotA 2, or god forbid, games that AREN'T MOBAs!
Yeah. That would be nice.
They should acknowledge all competitive gaming scenes, and not just MOBAs (even though I'm a League of Legends fan myself).
I mean… There's also RTS', like StarCraft, and shooters, like...gulp...Call of Duty that are just as big--if not bigger--in eSports.

I wonder if this will make the MOBA communities less horrible.
Probably not. Probably going to make them worse actually, because you will have so many negative comments thrown back and forth between people who support different teams.
You get that kind of stuff in baseball, football, and soccer communities too, but the gaming community is an entirely different…breed.

Heh, drunken MOBA riots
-
The futbol or other sport communites that I see here can be very competitive, degrading, agresive, and I've been witness to enough "accidental" injuries to know that the bravado and verbal abuse is a way to express "right now I would break your shin if I could"
Sports aren't as bad with the verbal abuse because they aren't constrained to play a full 40 minute loosing game if they don't want to (unless is a cup or something), but the potential of physical retaliation escalates because if you play with the same jerks regulary you'll get fed up eventualy, and it's easier to asociate grievances with a face than an user name.
Also, I find it noteworthy that in sports you get angry with your opponents, but in e-sports you get angry with your teammates.
Moba could get the sport tag because it's a team game, and it's something watchable, where you can apretiate the team effort easily. In a fps (or a paintball match or something) it would be very difficult to get a complete picture of the action live.
With Fighting games I guess that the difficulty is that they are emulating something that is already a sport.
-
I can understand if it's being considered a sport now, but I can and will never consider these gamers athletes.
-
Well, not really related with the discussion, but I do remember hearing that korean gamers were recruited in the army.
-
The idea in granting them that sports status is to be able to allow them visas and stuff. It's just a roundabout way of saying it's a legitimized activity and it's cool that they are recognized as such.
The semantics of what does and doesn't qualify as a sport is the boring part that I don't care for, since it's less the point. I blame the Olympics and Dr Dre's "The Chronic"
-

Fixed. They have mandatory military service.
-
first League of Legends is a sport, what's next? Chessboxing upgraded to sport from its previous classification of "mystery"
-
You already have silly "sports" like ping pong and fencing, paragliding and horseback riding. So…
-
^ Nascar, Dressage, & Fishing ?
-
Fixed. They have mandatory military service.
I know that, but appearently they really became part of the army, not just serving it.

Then I'm confused why you mention gamers. I mean sure some koreans that happened to be (pro-)gamers could have decided they want to serve the military full time. I don't see the connection here that would be worth mentioning.

I'm just pointing out, I did say it wasn't that related with the discussion :P

LOL, take a look at the panel. I have always felt that the (visible) indie game "community" was extremely homogenous, but wow.
I also found another video:

Some people from Reddit apparently took a tour of Valve and one of them took a picture of a computer screen with a bunch of changelogs on it, some about Source 2 and mentioning Left4Dead 3.

Well, someone's fired.
-
and that's the last time "people from Reddit" ever get to tour offices
-
wait I thought Valve couldn't count to 3
-
square makes a good point. Valve let this guy take this picture so they can cancel Left4Dead3 because of hurt feelings.

e](http://www.siliconera.com/2013/08/12/if-konami-makes-a-new-contra-it-has-to-do-something-new-says-castlevania-producer/)verything is wrong with this guy says about handling IPs. I liked the new Castlevania(s) just fine but…yeah, don't let this guy touch Contra.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/19/child-of-light-ubisofts-fairy-tale-jrpg looks interesting. That said I played/seen very few western intepretations of the jrpg genre that actually captured me(well there aren't many there to begin with) and most of them come from the rpg maker scene.

Color me optimistic.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how it's a side-scroller. Sounds weird.

Valkyrie Profile :)
-
Yeah, but Valkyrie Profile was more than just a typical "look at the pretty art" artsy game. I'm kinda hoping this one is not, though my expectations are very low seeing how they have let me down this generation.
But I'll keep an eye on this.
-
Valkyrie Profile :)
Hmm I have not played that. On Wiki it seems to have a 3D world map though? Too bad I don't have a PSP.
-
The map is 3d, towns and dungeons play like a side-scroller.
Valkyrie Profile is also for the ps1 and ps2.Anyway, game sound interesting. Can't wait to see more.

Well what games are you thinking of since you mentioned that? I can't say I have much to go on to have a strong connection to any game just from what we know.
It's just that when sidescrolling and jrpgs are mentioned I always end up thinking about Valkyrie profile first. Maybe it's more actiony and it might be more like muramasa or odin's sphere, who knows. -
Yeah. VP is a really beautiful game. It's hard to recommend due to how the ending system worked, but for the most part it's a really unique game. Lots of enemy types, variation in dungeons, great soundtrack(one of Sakuraba's best), compelling to outright depressing character moments(everyone dies before joining you basically), and a neat battle system.
The second game is weaker, since it recycles alot and it lacks polish… but the combat and skill system is fun to mess with.

Outside the boss battles and customization stuff, there was just no substance at all to those games.
I'm kinda doubting this may be very action heavy. The look of it seems like it would be one of those slow paced immersion type games.. but the article says it would be "JRPG" esque, so I'm conflicted on what to think the final product may be.

GFWL is being canned. I'm not sure how it'll affect games that use it now. If it's not patched out you'll have to make an offline profile for every game and it's difficult to migrate saves from offline to online and vice versa. I'm glad they're finally getting rid of it though. It was a giant pain in the ass.

I didn't want to make a thread because haters but I couldn't give two shits and a barrel of sugar so you guys are seeing it HERE

Welp. That's gonna be a pretty swift guilt purchase.
Only when it's on Steam though. No way in hell am I buying it through EA channels.

If that's directed at Sims, don't you mean Origin?

Buying it through Origin may be the only way though. E.A. hasn't been putting their newer releases on Steam. (Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, Dead Space 3, and the SimCity game were all Origin exclusive.).

[/stares at the American preorder prices for Sims 4]
That's a lot. -
So the level5 vision conference was just now and what a disappointment.
It's been tons of IOS game announcements some of them are actually multiplatform but they looked like they were all designed for IOS. Announcements were: Wonderflick, Majin Station, Layton 7 and another Inazuma11 game.
So yeah one of the few japanese companies that left us with some jrpgs for console right now isn't even focused on the handheld stuff anymore, makes me sad.Maybe they'll have some stuff left for tgs, but if you think back 3 years to the level5 vision from then this is the list of announcements they did:
Ninokuni (DS)
Ninokuni (PS3)
Layton 5 (3DS)
Time Travelers
Fantasy Life (DS)
Little Battlers (PSP)
Mystery Room (DS) -

My… ah... roommate and I made recruitable Companion versions of each other, for use in Fallout New Vegas. The game doesn't have a 2-player mode, so we had do make do with this. It's still kinda okay... Being alone in the Wasteland, but with each other standing by us and fighting with us, like a 2-person Nakama.
