Oh wait, we get Adventure World in this set? I totally forgot, that's another nice thing to look forward to I guess. I thought we'd be stuck with that garbage Asu wa Kuru Kara song for the rest of this set and move to that in the second. I'm not too worried about that but I admit it would suck if FUNi pulled a Dragon Ball and kept one version of the ED song for it's entire duration instead of the multiple new additions/changes.

@LUFFY#1:
Yeah, I really don't care much for Blu-Rays at this point, if they wanted to start releasing Blu-Rays they should have started with the collections or season 4..though it wouldn't hurt to start combo packs with Thriller Bark..
FUNimation won't be able to release blu-rays until Toei does anyways. Toei is still releasing the HD episodes on DVD in Japan.

I'm beginning to think that we won't see blu rays until the series is over, or close to ending. And even longer since we have to wait on the Japanese to get it first.
-
Is anybody getting their set today?
-
I'm getting sick of seeing this thread go back to the same old pointless blu ray discussion …
-
I get the feeling that only one creditless version of Adventure World exists. And part of me is worried that this creditless version won't have any fanart at all.
-
I actually wouldn't mind if we just get a single creditless (fanart-less) version of Adventure World so long as we do have the fanart versions during the ending credits to each episode. Brand New World was one of the only openings where I'd never skip the opening, so I won't be doing Marathon mode on this set, so hopefully we can get all the fanart versions of Adventure World for the ending. If anything, at least I know I have these episodes downloaded somewhere. XD

Incidentally, the reason why Cowboy Bebop was remastered in native 1080p whereas One Piece can't be is because Bebop was (presumably) animated on film, which is potentially at least as high quality as HD, and One Piece episodes 1-206 was evidently animated in 480p and edited in 480i. Video is apparently easier to use and looks better than film transferred at the same (due to a lack of grain or other film artifacts) but is stuck in the resolution it was made in, whereas film can be re-scanning in native HD, which (at least in Bebop's case) would have been an afterthought. Doctor Who is a particularly weird example of this, as episodes from 1970 exist in native 1080p whereas episodes from 2009 are stuck as upscales.
That being said, a hypothetical blu-ray release of the SD One Piece episodes would look better than the DVDs due to being less compressed, even if this image is still a 480p upscale, but it doesn't look like Toei are going to release any of the regular TV show on blu-ray anytime soon anyway. -
My local anime store just called. They have S5V1. Why they would call me five minutes before they close is cruel, but I'll be picking it up tomorrow after work.

In the opening, Chopper goes into the tent and doesn't fall out again, if you know what I'm referring to.
-
My set just shipped from Amazon.
Is there a Strong World trailer in the extras?
-
In the opening, Chopper goes into the tent and doesn't fall out again, if you know what I'm referring to.
That's because they changed that part of the opening later on. (Specifically in Episode 267)
-
You can see the differences in these two vids:
They also seem to cut out Sanji in love mode after Nami talks to him; is that so on the DVD too? -
Kumadori says YO-YOI, and is appropriately over the top and dramatic.
Fukurou is PERFECT, and has his CHA PA PA!!
Cast:
Jabra - Phil Parsons
Kumadori - Andrew Love
Fukurou - Alexis Tipton -
Why'd they change it anyway? I don't get it. What was wrong with Chopper's little freak out and Sanji's love wiggle that they kept it out?
Also, @G1Ravage, how does the rest of CP9 sound?
-

They added it in later in the television broadcast (and I'm almost certain it's on the FUNi dvds at 267+, but G1 can confirm that.)
Jabra - Phil Parsons
Kumadori - Andrew Love
Fukurou - Alexis TiptonThanks!
Phil did Burgess before this, Andrew Love was Mr. 5, and Tipton was somebody named "Littonto", but I have no idea who that is.
Nevermind, it was Tonjit's grandson.
-

Yes. This version of the opening is clearly the only one available in a creditless format. Question is, why was the animation changed at all originally? The first one makes more sense….

Just checked 268…no Chopper freakout, and no hurricane.
-
Yeah I get that, but I'm asking why? Why did they need to edit it out in the first place, that's what I'm not understanding. The original seemed fine without the edit, so what made them want to change it?
-
Good news! It looks like all of the different artwork endings from Adventure World will be featured. I'm honestly surprised.
-
Did you get to see a bit of Luffy's "Second Gear" yet?
-
Just checked 268…no Chopper freakout, and no hurricane.
Ah alright. Thanks for the clarification.

I took two off-screen vids, which is the best I'm capable of. Trying to upload them now, but my YouTube account is giving me fits. Stay tuned.
-
So is the creditless version on the DVD 4:3 like the video Shift posted? Or is it 16:9?
-
if 19-9 means WIDESCREEN then tht it what it is.
-
It's good to know they didn't mess up the openings and endings this time…it's say they still aren't dubbed, but that really isn't a FUNimation problem. Sounds like the DVD's are in good shape for this season! Looking forward to mine coming in the mail!
-
The creditless closing is 16:9. The creditless opening features the blue logo, thankfully continuing the recent trend.
Oh shit, the last episode starts the Robin flashback! jumps ahead for a peek

OOOOOOHHH!!!! How's young Robin? Is Saul in this set?
-
I'm sorry, I meant the opening. The video of the creditless opening that Shift posted on the last page is in a 4:3 format….I was wondering if the creditless opening on the actual DVD was also 4:3.
-
Robin's mother is called Olvia.
Flashback cast:
Young Robin - Jad Saxton
Jaguar D. Saul - Cole Brown
Clover - Kent Williams
Spandine - Christopher SmithYoung Robin sounds absolutely adorable. Perfect casting.
Saul…has a slight Texas accent. I don't think it's an issue. The bigger issue is that, being voiced by Cole Brown, Saul sounds like Blackbeard with a Texas accent. And noticeably so at times. But that's a trend we've seen occasionally with secondary characters and a somewhat limited talent pool. It's bound to happen. Saul's laugh is kept as dereshishishi. Center Baskerville (who isn't directly credited) is voiced by the same guy who did Crocus, and sounds very similar.
Extras: Two "On the Boat" featurettes -- one with Sonny Strait, and the other with Patrick Seitz.
Commentary for Episodes 265 and 273.There are no One Piece trailers of any sort on this release.
EDIT - Oh yeah, Dorry and Broggy kept their previous voices and laughs.

I know what you want....
-
Yeah I get that, but I'm asking why? Why did they need to edit it out in the first place, that's what I'm not understanding. The original seemed fine without the edit, so what made them want to change it?
Probably the same reason why they kept tweaking the animation for We Go across the first two months it was used or so… The opening was most likely always meant to have Love Mode Sanji and all that, but they couldn't quite finish it in time for the episode. Incidentally you might also notice that the stripes on the shoulders of Zoro's shirt aren't black in that shot when they should be, which was also corrected later.
Seeing how the creditless version Toei has always given us was the "less finished" version though, I can't say I'm surprised that's the one on the DVDs either, and I'm assuming that's the one they used for Brand New World's entire run.
-
Well, I can say that I'm really liking Phil Parson's Jabra.
-
LOVE IT!!! Loving Alexis T.
I wonder why they didn't keep Mark Stoddard as Saul. Oh well, just glad to see Cole B. is stil around. Hopefully he'll be around to keep playing Blackbeard.
-
Kumadori, Jabra, and Fukuro are perfect. PERFCT!!
-
I love Mark Stoddard, but seriously, he's had enough roles already. I went back and was watching season 1 again, and he voices a lot of random background characters, plus his larger roles.
-
I'm not surprised that Stoddard was replaced as Saul considering that he not only plays other characters but an already pivotal flashback character, but Cole Brown is a shocker considering how big Blackbeard is.
-
Mike probably doesn't know how big Blackbeard is. Blackbeard was a supporting character at this point.
-
Also surprising because Blackbeard faces Ace relatively soon.
-
As usual, I'm conflicted as to whether or not to watch clips or wait till tuesday.
-
Jabra's voice is pretty good, I'm really liking Kumadori's voice, but I'm not to sure about Fukuro. In the original Japanese he sounded like a high-pitched male, but here he just sounds like a girl. I know his voice actor is female in both versions, but I just think the voice sounds right. Maybe I just need to hear more of it, or maybe it's just the audio quality of this clip, but I'm not sure what I think of his voice at this point.
-
Perhaps if BNW is to fill in for Crazy Rainbow in later eps, they can find a way to get that updated version for it.
-
Thanks for the clips! Loved the part w/ the Jabra, Kumadori, and Fukurou. But jeez, all I hear when I listen to any voice Alexis T. does is either Himeji (Baka and Test), Sun (My Bride is a Mermaid), and/or Moka (R+V)…so yeah, it'll take me a while to get used to it, but the comedy was still there imo, so it at least works. XD I'm keeping my fingers crossed Walmart stocks it for the $20 price tag rather than $25 (like the online price). Either way, I'll still probably pick it up...it'd just be nice to save the extra $5. XP
-

I'm pretty confident he knows who Blackbeard is and how big he is.
-
When i heard that phil parsons was jabra i thought nappa instantly but he didn't sound like him at all still awesome
-
Yes! Shipping conformation at last!
Those clips were great. I usually don't watch them, but I've been waiting for this set so long I couldn't help it. Can't wait to hearit again on my set when I get home on Sunday/Monday.
I'm envious of you lucky few who got it early, and I hope you enjoy the set. I'll give my thoughts whenI finally get a chance to watch it.
-
! i know we're still a few sets away from this, but what are we thinking sanji's diable jambe kick/attack will be translated as ?
-
Diable Jambe, most likely.
-
i hope so ! it's just too bad that they couldn't/didn't keep roukushiki & all of the attack names intact instead of translating them.
-
It was a strange translation inconsistency with One Piece: Unlimited Adventure (exception: "Shave"), but then again, so is the change to Second Gear. The Six Powers names were consistent with the Viz manga translation.
However, I wouldn't really be too worried on how Diable Jambe will be translated. Worse case scenario: it'll be a slight difference in pronunciation. That would be my guess anyways.
-
I think they'll stick with the diable jambe
-
If no one else has their set by late this evening, I'll record a clip of young Robin and Saul. Expect that no earlier than 9:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time.
