    • RE: Funi TV Discussion (Saturday Night/Sunday Morning 1:00 a.m., USA Toonami)

      I meant not popular in the West in terms of mainstream appeal here. Film Gold screenings and Bamco games being released here are meaningless, there have been a bunch of other movies put out by FUNimation/Viz/Aniplex for limited screenings and niche anime like Berserk, Fate and Saint Seiya getting games localized too. The only readon why I come across as negative is because I often see OP fans being in denial of the series popularity outside of Japan. Many people don't realize this because they only associate with other people who are aware of the series online or so. Me saying OP is popular in the US because a lot of ppl online talk about it would be like me saying everyone hates Donald Trunp because I live in a very liberal city. As for the guy in the Film Gold thread it was nothing significant I just remember there was a guy fretting over OP's popularity and everyone giving him shit for worrying. But yes, OP is popular in the West to an extent but not quite there with a lot of the mainstream shows. I just don't think new shows such as AoT, SAO and OPM etc; should quickly be overtaking a series like this. We can keep saying "it's fine" and shrugging everything off but I feel like the series is underperforming here for being the most popular anine ever in Japan.

      @Zephray:

      I think they moved it to a really late time slot where it failed. 2:30 AM.

      It was already not doing well in the ratings before that in the 4 years it's been on, the only reason why it got moved to that slot was because it stunk earlier. They even had it on at 8:30 after DBZ Kai for a stint but the ratings were so bad it quickly got pulled from that slot. I think it was OK during the Water 7/Enies Lobby arcs but the trends in the TB arc have just been laughable to the point where it had 200-250k viewer dropoffs from Naruto Shippuden and One Punch Man reruns beat it. I know this may seem like nothing to you guys but this isn't a good look at all for the series popularity in the U.S, just goes to show it'll never kick off here like many other mainstream animes have.

      Actually no, the Toonami staff have said multiple times that they've had to push to keep One Piece on air. The show has done awful in the ratings especially with the terrible Thriller Bark arc. This was a decision that they HAD to make, made no sense to keep an endless show on air when it doesn't perform well. I hope people understand that OP just isn't popular in the West, very niche following but that's it, never had that mainstream presence. I remember there was that guy in the Film Gold thread worried about OP's popularity where and everyone told him it was fine but his assertions were correct. Keep in mind that the show has been on for FOUR years and was given earlier timeslots including 8:30PM, so can't say they didn't give it a chance.

      @Dusty:

      Ah excellent! I was right! So with no real break we start seeing thriller bark in may.

      ALSO, interestingly this means we are only 6 episodes away from when the simulcast started in 2009, which at the current schedule means we will see dubbed saobody(sp) in 2015… 8 years of catch up lol this also means though that at that point ALL subbed episodes will be streaming online, nice n legal.

      Wonder who they'll get for jinbei...

      Well yeah besides the Toriko and DBZ crossovers(492,542 and 590). Pretty sure those won't get licensed when the time comes either.

      It definitely would be very fitting really hope it happens. And although it most likely won't happen it would be cool if in the ending credits to strong world it said "season six coming soon"

      There's no more panels this year, NYCC was the last one. So now I'm pretty sure there will be a break between seasons 5 and 6. Heck, it's possible that we won't even be seeing Season 6 in 2014 if it is not announced by winter. I'm guessing the deal was not finalized or just wasn't true.

      It's all about that kingdom hearts hd, boys and girls.

      Really, I'm only excited for pokemon because you get to pick from the original starters, too. It isn't even in 3D.

      Have been playing a lot of Kingdom Hearts HD as well. And come on the Kanto starters are your only reason to getting the game? The game has a lot more good things to offer than that. And it is in 3D. Only the overworld isn't while the cutscenes and battles are. Not like the 3D makes a difference anyway.

      Sorry to go off topic. 😛

      Well didn't

      ! Monet die as well?

      But anyway the cover is kinda plain if you ask me. I would've liked it better if it showed Luffy doing the Jet Gatling from a third person view. That would've looked so cool. Still have yet to see Gear Second on a cover anyway.
