Will chapter 5 and up ever get scanlated?
Cross Manage

Chapter 19, excellent chapter.
But I can't shake the feeling we needed this like 10 chapters ago. -
Just read the first 18 chapters; I'm a total sucker for main characters in sports manga, but Misora is so awesome! Kaito really makes Sakurai unrecognizable at times depending on the moment but whatever.
It definitely isn't the type of manga that'd perform well in Jump, but it's a great change of pace.
I enjoy CM now, but can't say that I'd miss it a whole bunch since it has just begun.
There are two new series announced to start, so two are to be cancelled.
Sucks that that's always the case :/ They should expand :P
-
Cross Manage is all about KAITO's art to me, so I'm not fussed if it has a bad chapter here or there, but really even when it's not so hot it's got charm to it. Charm's just not a vote-getter. I'm hoping it sells well in tanks, for whatever that's worth, and at least that Viz might do physical releases of it (they seem to have not bothered with TakamaGaHara, unless they're doing the redrawn pages slowly.)
-
With chapter 20, it definitely seems like the romantic subplot is prepping for resolution. I wouldn't be surprised to see the finals of the tournament as the last main arc before the finale. Wish the ride could have gone on longer, but it was a fun one.
-
i think the fact it's endured this long is good enough for me, so if Kaito can bring everything to a good resolution now i'll be chuffed
-
I'm curious why the sports part of Cross Manage was written the way it was.
Was it due to ratings or because Kaito's not accustomed to writing a traditional sports manga format?
I can't tell if the sports aspect could've been balanced better if Kaito was allowed to tell the story at her(?) own pace.
-
I can't help but feel it's because it's just not about the sports. It's a convenient point of interest though, to both present a collective of girls without it being harem-y bollocks, and to go and have an excuse to develop the main pairing, as one learns to care about stuff and the other learns to actually develop skills in what they're passionate about. It's a completely non-traditional approach to romance, and all it had to do was kinda half-arse a sport into it.
Okay that's a little unfair on it, but it's kinda what I think. -

Okay that's a little unfair on it, but it's kinda what I think. It kinda does have that harem-esque aspect though. Kaito often does have a ship-tease scene with Sakurai when a character on the team is given focus. I think ratings could have just been the reason why Sakurai and Misora have "progressed" as much as they have. But once again, it's another what if? question.
I dunno. Cross Game did a better job having a romance/slice of life at the forefront while still making the sport aspect relevant yet in the background IMO. But given the premise/beginning I do think lacrosse was meant to be a big aspect of it, or at least this series was meant to go the more traditional route in a sports manga.
Unless the series was purely meant to be about following the PoV of a manager instead of a team. In which case this series might have been much more successful at what it was trying to do than what I seem to be giving it credit for. But I do like the characters. And the jokes do tend to hit.
-
I think the priorities were placed wrong, IMO.
Before introducing Misora's "older brother" figure, touchin up on Sakurai's two best friends, an the love triangle with the senpai..
The interactions and character development of the team should have come first. Like the ones we saw last chapter. -
I love this series so much, but yeah, I do wish we would have gotten the stories of the other members already, but I think even if, assuming this is actually the case, she/he was being rushed, KAITO probably would still keep the reveal of the members' backstories for later. It is just more realistic I think. It is not like Sakurai can just show up first day and and be like, "Hey. I need you to fill out these surveys of how you met Misora and why you joined the team. Trust me. This is must-know information."
I am happy we got Komatsu's so early though. She was probably the one I was most interested in besides Rurie(the big chick). Hope we do get to at least see the story of Misora founding the club though, if not all the members individual stories.
I think definitely the biggest thing holding Cross Manage back right now though, is the fact that they don't have a rival. It really is a Shonen cliche, but right now the series is definitely too Man Vs. Self. A few troupes may be beneficial.
KAITO went so out of her way to hide the star player from there first game. Now that I wonder is if because of the possibility of getting cancelled. I think that right now they are on such a roll, that they will probably meet face off with the school from their first game again and be completely decimated. And of course, if KAITO is going to use this opportunity to try and actually save the series from canellation again, we will probably see something like, the star player actual confronts them verbally or even face-to-face this time or something, because they have improved so much. Something cliche like that.
I think for sure we will see them face off again, and I am pretty confident something like this will happen and they will end up crushing Fujioka even more then last time, thus starting a rivalry for the series.I just wonder if star player girl will be a character like Misora's "big brother" guy, or if she will actually be like a kind of agrresive-yet-supportive type of "you got potential, so imma crush you now, and if you come back, I will crush you again, all until one of use is undeniably the best" type of charcter, kinda like the main rival from Eyeshield 21.
Whatever. I just wanna see them face off again. It would be sweet if Misora only gets a single point against them at the very end of the match. A "Dun-dun-dun!" type of thing.
Oh. And I enjoy the charisma of all of KAITO's character designs, so I was really disappointed with this last chapter totally doing the, "we not important enough, so we ain't got no faces" gag.
-
The background and expose isn't what's necessary though. The chemistry build-up is.
There really wasn't any of that between the protagonist and any members other than Misora. It's ok to keep some juicey meat of their story tucked away for later but the chemistry needs to happen earlier for readers to feel connected.
-
Yeah. I see that.
Well…..Hopefully with this new, probably mini, arc we will actually see some likable chemistry between Sakurai and Saiga. I actually am really surprised with this, "twist"? Haha. It is actually pretty cliche, but not the cliche I wanted. The fact that Kaito is taking the time out to do it though, when it can easily just be written out and we could go straight to games, makes me confused on weather or not is is a good foreboding or bad foreboding. On one hand Kaito would do it because she/he may know they have enough time to now, but on the other hand Kaito might be doing it to actually get that Saiga chem in there before the series ends.
-
^Did I miss a chapter? Confused at the saiga part
! Latest one I read is when sakurai puts the doll misora made on his cellphone.

For me it just seems to highlight the manga's biggest issue in that Kaito doesn't seem to be comfortable with doing the lacrosse scenes.
Kaito does character interaction well but drawing a sport's manga doesn't seem to be Kaito's niche.

Saiga is one of the three names shown at the end of the chapter.
-
ah thx! damn it I knew I should have looked up the names…

Hmmm. I kinda can see that. I always felt they were pretty strong though. I think they lose something because of the quick pacing, but I am definitely happier with this rather than 6+ chapters dedicated to each game like other sports series.
I definitely really did feel let down with her lack of depth given enemy teams the last game though. Mostly because the art, but Kaito has characters that I can see once and automatically want to know more about. I really loved the way they treated the enemy girl in the first game who was basically caring her entire team on her own.ah thx! damn it I knew I should have looked up the names…
Haha. Yeah. Gizmo beat me to it.
-
wow excellent chapter.
I burst out laughing at the Saiga clones lol.Again, kinda late to be doing this, but every other chapter is harem building chapter now. LOL.
-
I just hope the harem-building doesn't ruin the strength of the main romance.
not long till volume 1 finally comes out now! i… I don't actually expect it to sell that well, but romance titles can be surprising like that, so fingers crossed!
-
If the Sakurai/Misora relationship or the team's skills didn't progress as much as it has, I might have been hopeful that the story could've continued, especially since other series seem to be not doing well and I'm hoping World Trigger ends soon/bombs.
-
I don't see this lasting long enough for World Trigger to get cut first. It would have to survive the next wave of cuts by having Kiruko and Hungry Joker go down first and after that hope that World Trigger and Edison tank badly.
-
Boy I love how sensible sakurai's friend is. xD
-
Loved this chapter. Thank god for some Saiga time finally.
Don't really feel it is harem-y at all. It is just embarrassing sometime when you actually becomes friends with someone.
Aw. So sappy. And still not satisfied with Aya though. Basically her only personality traits are "mischievous" and "dem clavicles"
Hahaha -
Cross Manage is still entertaining to me, but it will surely get canceled. But I'm fine with that since it looks like KAITO is wrapping things up nicely, though it would be really surprising if the rank goes up when we reach the last few chapters, I've noticed that Komatsu's focused chapter (when she was involved in wanting to quit the team) had a better rank (14) so when we reach the other Komatsu chapter it might rank better again. Either way I'm enjoying this series even if Japan's kids are not.
Here's some good news, the cover for volume 1 of Cross Manage was released, I love KAITO's art.
-
The cover does look neat, I love the illustration, but the font and overall design is so bland, it might as well be a chapter cover for how little the entire image sticks out…
-
Couldn't disagree with you more, the way it's painted gives such depth to KAITO's trademark smile that I can't help but be completely captivated by it. But then I'm ordering it and the (hopeful) english release, so I'm biased in its favour anyway ahaha
-

Yeah, that's what struck my mind when I first saw the cover, it does look like it could be from a chapter cover.
I'm sure Cross Manage will be canceled, but I'm going to purchase all the volumes that are released eventually, love KAITO's lacrosse/romance series! :D
-
I think I am the only one that doesn't like this cover. I like Kaito's random changes to toony and super realistic in the chapters, but I think it does not work for the cover.
It just doesn't look like Misora. -
Fudge. I love Cross Manage so much. I really don't want to end.
At least we will get to see a Choran match for sure, I just hope Fujioka are the ones to face them.Kaito's author's comment is sort of sad though….
-
I'm yet to read all the chapters in order, but I actually think the main cast is pretty…unique? Dunno, it's not anything amazing, but it's the sort of down-to-earth series that puts a smile on my face. Is it getting bad ratings or something?
-
Yeah as in, it's competing for the rock bottom with two other titles every week.
-
Pretty fun twist in Chapter 24.
I'd say there's officially too many girls to keep track of now
-
Holy crap. This last chapter. Was amazing. It is probably the most a chapter of anything has ever actually chemically engaged me in what people call "the feels" in a long time.
I usually am like a statue when I read, but this chapter was just too amazing. I was laughing, hit the table at one point from the awesomeness, and ended up rolling my eys
multiple times at how it could possible be so good. When I finished reading, I was seriously so overcome with emotions that I just had to get up and take a walk for a while to clear my head.I know probably many won't find this chapter as amazing as I did, but it definitely is a good one, and in my opnion the best in the series so far.
I love basically everything about Namine, and the ending was so good. I can't wait to see what comes out of this next arc.I know they will finish the tournament before the series may get cancelled, but I really hope that KAITO doesn't chose to make the team lose their first round in the finals.
It would definitely be a twist I didn't see coming, but in this case that is a bad thing. -
Well I've been following this series in WSJ(A) and I love it. It's hard for me to really start enjoying a manga, but this one has done the trick. The art is fantastic (Oh my goodness, the Volume 1 cover looks sweet!) and the story is a lot of fun. Plus I'm just a big sports nut :P
Chapter 26 is now my favorite chapter in the entire series. I love how Sakurai brought in real life examples to help explain his strategy. And honestly it's the first time a chapter of any manga other than OP in WSJ has felt longer than it actually was. It's a shame that this manga is going to end so soon.
Is this Kaito's first manga? I would love to see more works by this author in the future! -
i can't think i've seen kaitoanywhere before, but pen names are tricky things.
its cool to see another fan of the title, especially as your support of the official release raises the odds of it having an english print edition.
sadly cross manage doesn't seem long for this world, but i hope kaito comes back with a hit soon after, his faces are too good not to -
Here's the RAW for chapter 29: http://raw.senmanga.com/Cross_Manage/29
-
No idea what's being said but the pictures are enough for me to know this was a great chapter. Lots of good humor and The intro for the other team was great.
I had my issues, but why isn't this series getting more attention? There's a lot to like in here.
-
Cover for volume 2 is out.
http://books.shueisha.co.jp/CGI/search/bigimg_put.cgi?isbn_cd=978-4-08-870669-6Man. I really don't like these covers. They alwasy seem off.
Really hope a digital vol. 1 gets released by Viz soon. I still absolutely love the series.
Most recent chapters are amazing as well.
Like it is kinda a bad comparison, because the other one actually is shojo(even though it is totally shonen in disguise),
but the only other series that is so emotionally involving to me is Chihayafuru.
Like every week both Cross Manage and Chihayafuru give me the feels. And just cus I think about it sometimes…...he totally touched her boob in the first chapter.......it....just kinda seems weird to look back on....
-
I'd like Viz to release the volumes too, Cross Manage is like the only thing I don't read in my Jump subscription because I can't, only have chapters 12 and up, sadly. Though Viz is so untimely with their volumes it might just get axed before that.

How would you even have the slightest idea as to what this series was about based on that cover?
-
Ugh, double posts galore today.
-
Think the cover actually captures the series pretty well. It's a manager watching the lacrosse team train up some stairs, and the series does seem to be focused more on Sakurai's journey than the lacrosse team (at least in volume 2, the latest chapters have been doing a pretty good job with focusing on the lacrosse players).
Though I'll admit the ladies holding the lacrosse sticks should be bigger.
-
How would you even have the slightest idea as to what this series was about based on that cover?
It has to be about bug catching they're holding brailer like things!! or maybe even scooping fish!!!
Man maybe I should try to read the latest stuff, kind of gave up on the series like at chapter 20 something given how dire its future seemed.
-
VIZ released Volume 1 today, so if you'd like to own the series, buy it up.
-
Might break my rule and actually buy the digital copy since I doubt a printed version is going to get released.
I realize Cross Manage survived another round, but I'm curious how it's going to end. If I wasn't expecting the manga to end during the next cutoffs, I'd probably just expect them to lose again and build up their team some more. Now? I mean, I still don't think they will win, but dunno how the manga is going to resolve itself.
-
buy the digital copy! it encourages them to get a print license, like they've said they're sortig out for Nisekoi in the wake of its digital success.
the alternative is for it to end up like takama-ga-hara where it just sits on the digtal store unread by anyone ever
-
I grabbed volume 1 yesterday, it was a pretty good read, can't wait till volume 2 so I can finally start reading it in my jump subscription.
-
chapter 33…. cover...
....... why is this mangaka trying to give me nightmares.
I mean she's done creepy expression before but this tops it all. -
Here's the RAW for chapter 33, if people want to see what Aohige is talking about: http://raw.senmanga.com/Cross_Manage/33/1

Chapter 33 Talk
Man. I really am glad the series lasted another round. This most recent game has just been so good. I really don't see it ending in any way other than defeat, but man, if the series doesn't survive another round there is no way they can fit in a satisfying ending after a defeat here.
Haha. I actually would quite like it if they somehow did win, and then just totally fell over themselves the next round, thus disgracing Choran even more than if they won the entire tournament.
Oh, and the Choran's director is hilarious.
EndAnd I also got the digital Volume 1.
Only has the common intro, and then character sketches inbetween chapters, but I was really hoping for some author talk at the end.
Apparently Volume 2 does have this though? I think….
And I really hope it gets a physical release. I did buy the physical release of Barrage, and seeing as Takama-ga-hara won't be getting one, I should pick up the digital release of that too to show support. They actually already have a physical mock-up for Takama-ga-hara...
I really want a physical release of this though, and I hope that people do support the digital one, since that seems be the number 1 factor in getting a physical release. I already gifted 2 volumes of it.
