So in Volume 67 when Law switches the hearts, he calls it "Chambres" and in 68 when he switches them back, he calls it "Shambles". Kinda odd that he's got 2 different names for something that's essentially doing the same thing.

Yeah, if I was on the fence before about going digital, that price hike definitely tipped be back to print where I can keep buying it for $6 from RightStuf.
-
I found Volume 68 at Barnes & Noble last Thursday. Really happy they kept the snow on the title.
-
Got 68, and while reading it Namji says "kick your ass" . also i love how much better the translations are now, its like reading the actual japanese version, almost
-
The end of this week's Jump tells us there's going to be a new series next week. All we get is a shadow and a few possible hints.
Any ideas of what it might be?
UPDATE
Other people at a forum I frequent managed to figure out that the new series is Jump Square's Owari no Seraph -
It gets even more obvious when you consider the "vampires" and "maybe it's not on WSJ" hints on that, lol. It's decent manga overall, I can see it getting very popular internationally. Shame it's not Souma though. That manga's so good but no one licenses it.
-
Criticism time!
I just want to say that whoever is translating One-Punch Man is doing a terrible job with the names. They're called translations for a reason! Don't be like those lazy fansubbers that only translate half a name and leave the rest in Japanese! I'm referring to Liscense-less Rider being called "Mumen Rider" and Handsomely Masked Sweet Mask being called "Amai Mask AKA Handsome Kamen". Someone is getting paid for this?!
Also, turns out people don't like Stephen's claim that "Dwarves are exclusivly a Tolkein thing", and don't like the idea that Viz is treating its readers like morons!
By the way, "Chambres" is still a terrible translation that doesn't make a lick of sense. If it's meant to relate to his "Room" attack, then why aren't the other attack names like that?
Really, the biggest problem (besides fucking Zolo) is how inconsistent everything is.And if anyone says I'm not a "true One Piece fan" because I don't like what Viz is doing? Get out.
Seriously, I've been told I'm not a "true fan" before. People need to look up the "no true Scotsman" fallacy. -
Also, turns out people don't like Stephen's claim that "Dwarves are exclusivly a Tolkein thing",
That's not what he said, he was saying that the word brings them to mind. And that what Oda's going for is more along the lines of Borrowers and the like. Rather than dwarves of any mythical kind. Seriously, look up mythological dwarves, they're basically the same idea as Tolkein's (if not more primal sounding). A bunch of stocky trollish humanoid things that live underground and make metal shit.
Not much like the Borrower/Lilliputian things Oda is using.and don't like the idea that Viz is treating its readers like morons!
So two seconds of research on this was beyond you? Really? Because you are looking like a moron right now.
I mean seriously, have you some somehow never heard of The Borrowers or Gulliver's Travels.Really, the biggest problem (besides fucking Zolo) is how inconsistent everything is.
There's only that one inconsistency though.
And it's an absolute whogivesashit inconsistency.
I can't imagine anything less important than LAW ATTACK NAMES.And if anyone says I'm not a "true One Piece fan" because I don't like what Viz is doing? Get out.
Seriously, I've been told I'm not a "true fan" before. People need to look up the "no true Scotsman" fallacy. You are someone who has no straight priorties and seems to like putting more effort into getting angry than he does actually looking up the rationale behind a choice.
-
Wasn't it also that "Chambres" was explicitly stated in the manga? I remember Stephen saying something on the One Piece Podcast.
-
Could someone please tell this Tobi-guy who is apparently a member of this forum (I didn't find his profil) to omit releasing official english shonen jump versions of Blue Exorcist (everyone who has a subscription can tell that the allegedly scanlated chapter 50 is exactly the same except for the watermarks) which was released in monday's issue. I do appreciate his effort in scanlating One Piece with CCC's script but "stealing" official releases and passing them off as their own work is not a cool move.

Same with recent chapters of World Trigger.

I argued for this 4 years ago and I'll argue for it again. The English translation of One Piece is absolutely fine. Every word choice has a logical reason behind it and anyone letting these "inconsistencies" tarnish their enjoyment of the Viz manga to the point of frustration is truly at a loss.

Since Alabasta they've been fine for the most part (still irked by Kami…) but the first dozen or so volumes were pretty bad with pirate terms, typos, and a few mistranslations.

The Pirate slang stuff didn't last very long, it was almost entirely in the Kuro and Baratie arcs. I don't remember it beyond that.
lol at the guy a few pages back saying he liked that
-
I wouldn't say I particularly enjoyed the pirate banter, but I'd certainly never say that it turned me off from the manga. The quality has never regressed though. Throughout its lifespan the Viz manga has been consistently increasing in quality, with an arguable dip during the Skypiea saga with the whole "Kami" debacle that everyone was up in arms about. Other than that, it's been spot on.

viz is a disappointment in so many ways

Not sure if it's been posted here yet but Viz is releasing a box set of the first 23 volumes (East Blue and Baroque Works) on November 5th

are the still referring to zoro as zolo.

Currently, yes. I doubt they would have gone back and changed it.

http://www.amazon.com/One-Piece-Box-Set-Baroque/dp/1421560747Now it's time to do a calc and see if it's not cheaper to just get the Omnibus volumes (think I did a preliminary calc and it actually was cheaper). Will probably wait to hear something more about the bonuses and such and will decide what to buy. And when :D
-
I'm thinking about purchasing the 23 volume box set to start my collection, anyone here have opinions/reviews on it? Good condition, worth the price, etc.

I guess prices will work out differently in different places, but it's cheaper here than buying the volumes individually, but buying the 3-in-1 editions would be cheaper still.
As they're new they should be like … as good as any other new volumes?
-
The 3-in-1 volumes are cheapest, but ultimately they're pretty flimsy. Really thin pages and covers. Personally I would choose the box set over the 3-in-1's.
-
Yeah I'm going for the set to maintain consistency. Don't want to have a couple of three-in-ones then have to switch over to regular volumes. Thanks for the help!
The poster and Q&A don't hurt either.
-
I hope when Viz releases Volume 70, they'll put "Dressrosa" at the top.

Wow, thank a lot! I'm definitely picking this up.I hope when Viz releases Volume 70, they'll put "Dressrosa" at the top.
Don't they usually put the name of the saga instead of the arc? In which case it would say Pirate Alliance at the top, though I would prefer Dressrosa as well.

I thought Viz confirmed that the volumes would all say "New World" until the end of the series??

This is a box containing those volumes (1-23) (East Blue and Baroque Works) .
The best place to buy from is amazon . And Yes this box from VIZ .

I found unboxing video for this set, to see it in details .

I finally decided to put down the money and buy that box set. In 5 days, no more crappy early scans.
Has anything been said about the next box set, or is that still to be announced?

Is it weird that I was completely horrified when he started cutting off the plastic wrap?
-
Personally I don't care too much for the saga labeling since it clashes with my original first 23 volumes with the gold trimming and makes my collection look inconsistent.
Regarding the boxed set, it looks really awesome and I wouldn't mind buying that despite already owning every volume. Would have been especially cool if it came with Volume 0 though.
And for the newer editions of the first 23 or so volumes, is the quality of the dialogue any different? As discussed before, some of the dialogue in the earlier volumes aren't as sharp as the later books (mostly East Blue. Seems as if Viz really hit their stride during Alabasta and on). Any changes with those in newer editions or are they virtually the same?
-
I was just reading one of the Viz SBS and when questions ask of character's penises it replaces it with crotch.
I don't really care, just thought it was funny.

I don't remember where, but I saw a screenshot of one of the newest SBSes, probably in 68 or 69, about vergo's DF power and Viz really went explicit with it and everything. I'm pretty sure it was Viz, and it was pretty surprising.
Here it is, I found it:

That must have started recently, the SBS I read from was from volume 61, asking about Jozu's penis being made of diamond.
-
20 years after One Piece is finished, society will be even more lenient with sex and someone will ask "Odachi, throughout One Piece's run people have always asked how certain abilities effect the users penis. Can you draw penises from each of these characters while the ability is being used?"
In a battle royal setting we will see a floating penis split into 3 by a sharp metal penis, a diamond penis crossing "swords" with a super hard jet black Haki penis, etc. Does anyone know the full list of penises that were brought into question?
-
the trick to getting explicit dialogue past the Viz's editors: you just have to be funny enough

Wait Stephen, do you translate the SBS as well?

In addition to this I know Luffy, Akainu, Aokiji, and Kizaru's penises have all been brought up.

I agree that's its completely stupid, but nonetheless I was under the impression Viz confirmed this was the case.
At this point we should be wondering why Fishman Island and Punk hazard have no markings. -
It's strange that I haven't been able to find Vol. 69 in any of the bookstores in my area. I guess that's actually a good sign…?

At this point we should be wondering why Fishman Island and Punk hazard have no markings. When Viz was many volumes behind the japanese release, it was easy for them to know exactly where and when an arc would start and end and what would be the best name to give it. But now Viz is pretty much caught up with the japanese release.
