Kingdom Hearts 1 was many things for me.
I really didn't like Birth by Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance isn't standing out for me so far… but love it or hate it Kingdom Hearts is pretty much the reason I'm a gamer today.
I was 8 years old when Kingdom Hearts 2 got released here in Denmark, and i now think that its one of the (Playstation) games that i have played the most. And damn i cant wait for a new main game in the series. But i just feel sad because i know that i will not have the money for a ps4 in the next many years.
KH1 would always remain the best one for me. It was just a lighthearted adventure within Disney worlds, and the challenge was surprisingly great. My favorite moments were the Hallow Bastion events. To this day, no other KH game has topped those moments.
KH2 was horrible for me because instead of a lighthearted adventure with epic moments, I was given an angsty teen plot that tried waaaay toooo hard to be deep and needlessly convoluted with a heavy amount of forced symbolism. Organization Xiii, the lame pointless emphasis on Sea Salt Ice Creme, repeating of the "oh-so-symbolic" sunset scene(in that one town), and god. KH really tried to be something bigger than it originally was, an I can't for my life eat any of this game's bs attempt at "deep" storytelling.
The game would have been saved if there was challenging gameplay and mind inducing boss fights like the first game, but sadly enough all of that was reserved to the Final Mix version >_> If we get this version of the game, I might as well change my whole opinion of KH2 because on its own, I didn't get any sense of satisfaction playing it.
BBS oddly enough restored my faith for the games. Proud Mode actually felt a bit challenging because the three main characters were balanced in abilities and weren't nowhere near as overpowered as Sora in the 2nd game. And the optional bosses were actually hard to defeat(well, without a cheap setup). It was also VERY nice that OrgXii wasn't prevalent for 90% of the game, and the story (while a bit typical) had quite a bit of light hearted moments and moments I felt actually made the characters grow. Along with the Disney stages, it was a decent game. I just wished they made it for the PS3 instead, because the frame-rate issues are somewhat nasty.
As for the other handheld, I don't really give a crap about them(I might get the 3DS version when I get one). I just want KH3 already.
I agree with everything in the post above. Except the "lighthearted" part. I thought Kingdom Hearts 1 and COM were the darkest ones.
They did say "darkness" a whole lot, so yeah.
Dark game.
In the grim dark worlds of Kingdom Hearts, there is only grim darkness, dark grimness and shipping.
Horrifying.
I still think Birth by sleep had the most darkness lines in it. I'm pretty sure every single line of Terra dialogue was something akin to "Blah blah DARKNESS, Ventus?…darkness no light darkness. Heart? Keyblade warrior"
It's a shame that it made me skip most of his cutscenes because I thought his gameplay was the most fun of the three. If the writing is at least as fun and light hearted (hue hue) As Aqua's dialogue, then Kingdom Hearts 3 should be fine. I'm mainly just looking forward to having Sora, Goofy and DOLAN back together again.
A lot of people are wanting a Marvel and Star Wars world now that Disney owns them, me… I'm not so sure. Star Wars would work, but I feel any form of Marvel world would be... pretty boring. After all, Marvel is a realistic world/universe just filled with unrealistic shit.

Pirates of the Caribbean is realistic too and they made it work
It sucks that Sony has the rights to Spiderman. I feel that Sora and Peter Parker would mesh really well.
They only have the movie rights.

- Nomura feels they announced the game too early. So yeah, don't expect the game for awhile.
- The reveal trailer wasn't running on either PS4 or Xbone, but rather a high-end PC. It's the quality they want to achieve for the consoles.
- Different worlds will feature different shading effects.
- It'll be a party of three but instead of having to trade out one of the two AI companions for a world-centric companion they merely join alongside your established party.- Both enemy and partner AI has improved and will coordinate with eachother.
- "Online features" being experimented with.
- More reveals at the Tokyo Game Show and a Disney Japan Expo in October.
Everything sounds good EXCEPT for the part in bold.
no me gusta esa idea~

Mmh why? Do I miss something? Doesn't it just mean that the maximum number a party can hold is bigger now?
Or did choosing what characters you had add to the gameplay that much?
- It'll be a party of three but instead of having to trade out one of the two AI companions for a world-centric companion they merely join alongside your established party.
So in essence, the total party could be 4 (including Sora)? I think this throws the dynamic off. A party of 3 seems more balanced to me. KHII thankfully gave you the option to change your party mid-battle, and all the experience goes to everyone anyway.
But then again, you wouldn't have to make someone sit out….Donald's healing always saved my ass...
- Both enemy and partner AI has improved and will coordinate with eachother.
Thank god. Hate to bring KHII up again, but in that game, it seemed it was more Sora + drive than anything else. Your teammates barely did any damage.
Compared to KH1, where you had things like Donald's Thunderga clearing out a whole tournament match or Goofy's MP Gift…..
Good to see the enemy AI will be getting a boost too.
Pirates of the Caribbean is realistic too and they made it work
I didn't mean realistic in visuals, I meant realistic in the world. Yes PotC was a realistic world… 300 years ago. By it being a boring world I meant essentially New York City present day for example.
I haven't played any of the spin offs so I don't know if this has been fixed yet but pls implement a better camera.
Mmh why? Do I miss something? Doesn't it just mean that the maximum number a party can hold is bigger now?

Like Meta said, I like the dynamic of 3. It makes you appreciate the AI better, knowing that choosing one means losing the talents of the other.
lo aprecias más~

!!!!!
I've played KH2 for over 2300 hours… and I never knew you could do that!

Yep. Notice how the command list is
Attack
Magic
Items
Drive
well, press left or right on the directional pad and it turns to
Attack
Summon
Party
Limit
there you head into the option and by choosing a name, you take that partner out for another. ….or maybe you knew of this and just didn't know the option was available in combat itself?
Other than that we NEED Princess and the Frog, it's so damn obvious. Princess world, New Orleans/swamp would make a freaking awesome area, and Dr. Facilier is begging to be a villain. The guy's voodoo magic and shadows are like Heartless already.
If it plays like KH2 and theres Second Rounds for each world, you just KNOW the evil voodo masks would make a bitchin' second encounter.
Apart from the Classics, It would be my wet dream if the delved into secondary canon, such as DTV movies and Afternoon shows
Darkwing Duck, Ungh
Ducktales Movie world UUNGH
And as always I must add GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE RATIGAN BIG BEN FIGHT PLEEEEEEEEASE

I see, that said I don't think I agree with the premise that the feeling of party inadequacies is tied to party size alone or has to even be tied to it at all.
There are a lot more factors for that from a design perspective. What you describe isn't only possible with a party of 3.
That feeling that you have is definitely informed by the previous games which is a fair and understandable viewpoint.
But depending on the design a bigger party can work as well, it very much depends on how many roles there are to be filled to begin with.
A more foreign example is dragon age origins which had a party of 4 and yet I felt always lacking something switching a lot between people mostly because the game had a lot of additional skills like lockpicking or sensing traps or certain encounters seemed to necessitate a certain combination.
So in short there is more to it than party size, it really depends, I would agree though that if they stay with what we know and just allow the party to be bigger that something would be lost(regardless of how important I feel that would be).
Pretty much truth
As I try to comprehend the KH narrative, I become more and more convinced they use Kubo as a ghost writer. The writing is just such an incomprehensible mess, where retcons and vagueness conquers all, and where everything HAS to be connected to every other fucking thing in the most convoluted way possible.
Seriously, playing KH2 I never understood what Xemnas actually wanted to achieve. Like, why should I care about beating him. At least Fake Ansem wanted Ultimate Darkness Powers lololol or something like that.
At least for this forum, I find it telling how everyone is talking about the disney properties they wanna see, rather than "Oh boy, I wonder whats going to happen with Darkness Riku Heartless Xehanort Light Sora Keyblade War HEART?! next game?"

Fuck it, heres my usual wishlist:
Maybe throw in Pocahontas and Emperors New Groove.
As for Marvel, well…maybe they could set it in Asgard?

Hmm…..personally I wouldn't want any Marvel environments in the game.

^World or no, including Marvel characters would be a smart business move for the developers…buuuuuuut its true that I don't know how well seeing Spidey share the screen with Donald and Goofy would work. Marvelverse would also be hindered by the lack of a small, self contained, easier-to-adapt story found in the other games.
Dude, you fucking deserve this!

C'mon… how can we not chill with Baloo!

JUNGLE BOOK WORLD
Throw in some heartless, and it should work.
I wonder how much more the story can get convoluted.
Does anyone actually**like** the story? I don't know anyone that does.
but yeah, we need more Mickey.
And no more Aladdin, please no more aladdin.

I like the story. Some story progressions I don't care much for, but I still care about the story. I think Distance Dream Drop however, took away too much mystery from Xehanort. I use to spent hours trying to solve the mystery behind that character, but KH3D ruined it for me.
me gusta~

You'd be surprised. Ever seen a bunch of fans getting together to make theories, analyze and attempt to explain the plot to great detail?
Yeah. They exist. It's as bad as people that waste thier time placing mental effort into something like… bigfoot being real or some shit.

Hiroy is correct, because I am one of those people.
es divertido~
I want to say "no offense", but I'd be lying. Well, as long as you are happy.

meh, it's no biggie. I think we all have or do things that others would just scoff at, so there's no point in being offended.
LOL, I also love your honesty!
nada del otro mundo~

You'd be surprised (or not) how many Kingdom Hearts fans are also Bleach fan. I think there IS a link between the two deep down somewhere.
It must be the shallow bishonen cast… And Xehanort is pretty much Aizen.

Nope. I think Bleach is shit.
No estoy de acuerdo~
I actually enjoy a well laid out deconstruction of the convoluted mess that is KH's story, it's like the reverse dark souls where you have to assemble all the pieces and fill out the blanks, here you have too many pieces from a thousand different puzzles where you try to make one coherent picture.
There is something funny about seeing the process of that and especially the result of such moot work.
I'm exitced for Kingdom Hearts 3 :D
Worlds that i would like to for Kingdom Heart 3 are
Emperors New Groove
Wreck It Ralph
Great Mouse Detective Mouse
Princess And The Frog
Atlantis:The Lost Empire
Treasure Planet
Robin Hood
Incredibles
Toy Story
TV Shows:
Gargoyles
Darkwing Duck
Gravity Falls
Motorcity
I would also like Marvel and Star Wars
Damnit, now I really wished I had made poll for this thread in regards to which worlds people are interested in seeing in the game. Nice choices by the way HEAT!

This is exactly how I felt about them. Once you got over the weird shock of the original concept, the first KH was a masterpiece of perfectly complementary gameplay and setting. KH2 worked well as a game (I preferred the larger environments of KH1) but the story was absolutely pants-on-head idiotic and a waste of fucking time.

I think if a mod is generous enough one of them could put a poll in.
Message a section mod. I'm sure it won't hurt.
And no more Aladdin, please no more aladdin.
Eh….three Aladdin movies. Three (well, three numbered) KH games.
It's an inevitability, dude.
There's only one world… JUST ONE, that I never... EVER EVER EVER want to see again!
!
nunca más~
As much as I hate underwater sections in games, I didn't mind TLM in KH1 too bad. It was definitely one of the most boring of the worlds tho.
And… let's just forget the world in KHII.
TLM world in KH2, was the HARDEST world for me. I just couldn't beat those damn Sing a longs. At one point I wanted to throw the controller at the Television.
Made me hate Ariel so much!!
i odiaba~

It's actually one of my favorites of KH1. ….Maybe the fact that the theme music's really catchy has something to do with it.
And… let's just forget the world in KHII.
It's neat to hear Ariel sing.
It's NOT neat to hear Donald's scratchy voice sing.
I loved TLM in KH1 because of Ursula.
my favorite Disney Villain~~~~

I think my favorite Disney villan is… mmmm.....
It's most likely Jafar, but honestly... I can't really say for sure. Maybe I'll say.. Sher Khan from Jungle Book. Yeah! I'll go with that one!
My favorite world is indeed Halloween Town. It may be gloomy, but it's still a beautiful place to go exploring! A place blooming with imagination.
es un gran lugar~

i dont care what other people say, im loving what they're planning to do and i can't wait for TGS now.
