@RobbyBevard:
Except for all those time on Fishman Island that he entire crew had problems with being underwater. Even Sanji couldn't help anyone and blacked out from drowning.
so what if he can't breathe underwater. It had only been an issue on fishman island, and seeming as that is done with…I can't look at jinbes one unique advantage as having any true relevancy in the current or future plot. Unless of course you think we are going to have another arc similar to the fishman island setting just to prove his worth.
Sanji even recovered kinemons body in the next arc, which for me just reiterates his swimming role amongst the crew, regardless of his human limitations.
For fuck's sake. "Oda is unpredictable" is NOT an argument and I hate it when people throw that out there. Unpredictable applies to the weird crazy new stuff he shows, and twists in the plot. it doesn't apply to his storytelling or narrative. He's pretty damn consistent about setting things up carefully in advance and using, yes, foreshadowing. Big decisions don't come out of nowhere.
if this was the case then you would have at least listed the foreshadowing that counters what I said.malso when did that become my arguement. I'm merely stating that the foreshadowing is on a knifes edge that could sway either way. And for me his unpredictability means that it won't fall slowly into one promising outcome, but suddenly just hit an obvious conclusion through one panel.
On a side note: don't start swearing and using some rage tactic to put a point across. I want to debate this without capital letters and condescending dialogue.
That's how some of us suspected, from the evidence of the story that Jinbe was a potential crewmate before he ever even appeared on camera or said a single line… strong structured story points that didn't weaken even once over the course of three years.
why don't you list them. Please just stop referring to some obscure evidence or foreshadowing and put it in black and white.
I hate it when people are so bloody vague about this stuff. At least have an opinion that can be debated before trying to pick apart mine.
Zoro's sense of direction, or an opening misunderstanding skirmish, allows that just fine without needing to kill someone.
we have a lot of ways of opening this up. My personal option would be through the infamy of his sword from ryuuma. Kinemon doesn't even need to die for this…just simply not physically be there to straighten out any assumptions they might have about his ownership. That arc really has to be zoros beast to deal with.
Because being exactly the same as the past is the lifeblood of good storytelling?
yet we've seen the same scenario several times throughout the series. Some things in the plot are just used over and over because they work, or because its almost a running theme tied to a person or crew.
Pretty sure that wasn't the case at Arlong Park. They arrived at Drum and were persecuted for about 10 seconds (due to blackbeard) before being let on without trouble. They got to Alabasta with Vivi in tow to help out but the country itself was screwed over and resentful towards the king, regardless of the Strawhat's position. Jaya didn't hate and fear them but instead thought they were outclassed wimps. Skypeia just sort of checked them in as guests and already had a war going on. Foxy had no such misconceptions. They were fine at Water 7 until the assassination attempt on Iceburg. Whiskey Peak, Thriller Bark, Impel Down and just now with Punk Hazard were places they invaded that had badguys in them, where the assumption was, "Hey, they're pirates, but we're BETTER, lets's take them out.".
it doesn't matter about the outcome. The whole point being that the friction and various fights stem from serious misunderstandings that happen within a couple of chapters or so of arriving. This isn't even debatable.
In what way is there an instant assumption in every arc that they have ill intent? Even when it is there, its easy for them to get caught up in the local problems immediately regardless of who they're with, or because of it.
lol you are basically saying that it's one huge coincidence or bad luck that this happens. Oda does this intentionally. It's like his icebreaker in showing who is who in the various arcs, as well as build a rough idea of strengths and characteristics of important people.
Even the current arc is full of massive (coincidental lol) conflicts. Luffy alone has already got about five people there that want him dead. Two of them we only just discovered out of the blue.
Two years training with Mihawk. He's not going to be done learning till the series ends, and Wano is pretty much the next stop in theory.
well this is a given.
Considering she's being attacked by Kidd's alliance, Luffy has declared war on her, Kaido is about to get attacked, and she is about to get a bomb sent from the strawhats, there's a lot of plates spinning. Jinbe saying "hey, we don't need your services anymore, thanks" isn't that high on the list of problems. The fact that he's likely to arrive at about the same time as the bomb however…
are can't tell if you are agreeing with me or not.
And you know. The whole Oda doesn't kill lightly thing. even if she DID detain and torture Jinbe (or whatever) he still wouldn't die off camera until Luffy got there… and what point would that serve? The same lesson and loss he had from losing Ace?
he doesnt need to die. As you said he can be tortured or something equally horrific. It doesn't matter so much if he lives or dies, just that he is the catalyst that makes it even more personal between luffy and big mom. Every arc needs an example or victim to inspire the crew to fight. Hiruluk, pell, robin, nami, the giant children, caimie…all being injured or put in danger in a way that really drove luffy and the crew to go at it 110%

@Shift:
…Really? You couldn't even call me out on using "then" instead of "than"? Fail, good sir. Fail.
this is weak .

@Urouge:
You acknowledge the barriers, yet you're willing to look right past them anyway.
im not looking last them. I'm saying that there are barriers preventing it from happening right now, but it could change or happen in a way that makes it a more promising outcome.
If I thought it was really a solid possibility I would say as much. However I can't deny that it has flaws in it that aren't
You've been around here forever and yet you're making the oldest mistake in the book. You decided you want a particular scenario, and you decided that maybe Momo could be the one to fulfill that, so you're twisting logic to unreasonable proportions for this story in order to support it.
can you read my posts again and notice that I'm not at any point doing this. Admittedly I do see oda using a certain guide for a crew member joining. I also believe that momonosuke like with anyone else his age, falls into the possible role of cabin boy (something I do believe in being the last role). Right now I feel he's the closest plausible candidate, but know that although he ticks a lot of boxes, he still has a few huge obstacles in his path that prevent that.
To sum it up in simple terms; I'm just stating that he or anyone else that has his attributes should be held or looked at as possible crew material.
Even if he is stupid enough to face her alone, he won't die from it. He'll get beaten close to death like just about everyone else in the entire series to this point.
hes going to either die or be injured so badly that he won't be able to join. And not from them not wanting him, but from his pride or acknowledgment of his position preventing him accepting the invitation.
I would prefer if he died though.
