You know, not speaking doesn't make Samus a robot in the Prime games. Her body language is fairly stoic sure, but she still expresses a lot of emotion through what she does.
Metroid Fushion handled Adam's interaction with Samus better. There's a reason why no one really complained about that game vs this one. Samus was not above taking certain orders, but nothing as ridiculous as Other M was presented to her. She lost her powers again, but that was better than not being able to use anything because Adam says so. (Power Bombs, I understand, everything else, made no sense.) She had to follow her mission in Fusion, but when presented with the opportunity to disobey Adam, she did because she personally knew it was wrong and against her better judgement.
Also, the fact that Other M pretty much disregards the chozo's existance as her father figures ("Adam was the closest thing to a father I had") and is inconsistent with the manga it is canonizing (and that was a very good manga, mind you.) The fact it also retcons the existance of Prime was a slap in the face for fans.
Now I could go on about how Other M was a storytelling mess, but I'd be lengthening this post for too long.
Gameplay wise, Other M was a really, really, really good game, even if it was too linear for my tastes. However, the gameplay pretty much emphasized Super Metroid in 3D, and I felt it really worked as that. Granted, the first person segments were annoying, but meh. Samus was acrobactic, she had a great deal of movement, and played well. I just wish they didn't go with the controller set up they did.
