For One Piece movie it was great, otherwise nah, didnt live hype.
just watch it.
! Z's death was my favourite scene, Dobberman crying was just the icing on the cake
I recommend those that want to watch the subs to download the softsubs, watch it with the "raw" Korean sub file, as fix the mistakes in the sub as you see fit. I'm not talking about translation, which is mostly correct as far as I can tell. There's just a fair amount of spelling and grammar issues that can occasionally get in the way of following what they're saying. Seems like the translator speaks English as a second language rather than visa-versa. I spent over an hour cleaning it up to something more readable.
Also, for those not aware, the "HD" file is still a CAM rip, just a very good example of one. Analog ghusting and pixelization really bring down the visual quality of the movie as the action gets more hectic and crowded. The 3D action sequences near the end of the movie are probably the worst examples of the transfer's faults, which ends up looking like a blurry mess. There alre also some flickering issues throughout. An actual Blu-ray rip or even DVD rip will look much better.
As for the film itself, it's definitely one of the best the series has seen. It fits better in the overall series narrative than most and has one of the most flesh-out villains the series has seen to date. I was also peased that every Strawhat got to have a pretty even spread of screen time outside of Luffy. I also like how the obligatory "filler kid" got just the right amount of screen time, was ugly as sin, and still had a great parting moment.
I also find it interesting how all of the anime only Toei movies and specials seem to keep drawing attention to Luffy's hat and making it into a Macguffin of sorts to motivate Luffy enough to take on the villain. Coming right off the heels of the "Episode of Luffy" special, it's even more noticeable. At least Luffy didn't end his big fight with an "Elephant Gatling" finisher. It was starting to get old after the third consecutive filler battle post-Fishman Island. The Toriko x One Piece x DBZ special in particular abused it heavily.
Lastly, has Sanji's "Sexy Fire" technique, which he speaks aloud in clear engrish, ever been used in the manga? I'm talking that particular name for his "burning passion," not something similar. I can't seem to recall it but virtually everything else the strawhats did was cribbed from the manga circa Fishman Island.
just watch it.

I personally found that to be one of the best scenes in the film. Very memorable.
Also rly liked this movie..the final fight ith their bare fists were simply breathtakingly good.
I just wonder where the scenes are which showed Nami swimming..thought those were from this movie…also who the shichibukai was who took Z`s arm should have been revealed even when only 2 are possible candidates.

I'm actually confused about that, was the guy who cut off his arm made a shichibukai during the timeskip or before it?

Can you maybe upload your corrected sub-file? Me too saw the many mistakes but don't know how to correct them.

You're probably talking about the special 'Glorious Island' that aired separately. I've seen people mentioning that it could be included on the Z BD but that's apparently just a rumor for now.
@Mizrath:

He became a Shichibukai during the timeskip but unfortunately Oda hasn't revealed his identity yet.
I'm actually confused about that, was the guy who cut off his arm made a shichibukai during the timeskip or before it?
Before timeskip would point to BB (maybe DD) and during would points towards the one shichibukai left so far in the shadows.
Dear god, that ending… serious man tears... fucking end of Marine Ford Arc-tier man tears....
The ending credits were also pretty good. Chibi versions of marines and pirates and shit.
About Aokiji
! I wonder how the manga version will pan out when they meet him and Luffy goes "Hey, what happened to your leg?!" again.
I just watched it and man it was so good.It was well worth the wait.I found it much more deep and serious than Strong World, even though i still love Strong World. The ending made me cry like a bitch.Oh and that sea song made everything 100x times better.Without a doubt great movie and an example of the magic of One Piece. :)
What was the deal with Kizaru hating Z?
I can understand Akainu not giving a damn about killing his former teacher who became a criminal, but Kizaru isn't really an advocate of Absolute Justice.
It just came off as weird that even Doberman shed tears for Z, but Kizaru on the other hand was more than eager to go all-out against a tired old man.

Didn't Z tell him "Borzalino we've never got along" or something on that line at the very beggining? It seems kizaru didn't have much love for his former teacher

I'll try later tonight. I don't want to take credit for the hard work the original uploader put into it. I might have taken a creative liberty on one or two of the most ponderous lines while tweaking readability.
I'm actually confused about that, was the guy who cut off his arm made a shichibukai during the timeskip or before it?
Considering how young Z looked when he lost his arm, I'd say pre-timeskip by a good margin. Could have been anyone, but I was thinking Doflamingo myself considering how his fruit specializes severing limbs.
Kizaru's never seemed to care all that much about consequences anyway.
Absolutely wonderful movie!!!
I Have no words for something like that!!
Someone else who believes as I do that someone told Kuzan to kill Z and because it is not able to do it he use Luffy for that? And that one is the same person Doflamingo saying in PH about the rumors?
Okay, now I want to give my in-depth thoughts on the film.
I'm gonna use a spoiler tag because I'm a nice guy. :)
! The beginning was really awesome. I've already seen it on shitty camrip, but I can appreciate it much, much more in the current video quality.
I really enjoy the song "Ocean's Guide". I see it as the Marine equivalent to Bink's Sake. And the way it was used throughout the film was truly masterful.
The first fight between Z and Kizaru had very beautiful animation. I can't even describe how hyped I was.
In fact, the anmation for all of the fights in this film were on point. Really neat combination of CG and 2D art.
And while I'm still on the topic of art and animation, there were a couple of scenes that gave me a distinct Ghibli-ish feel, like the scene where the crew is waiting for the Sea Train.
! The plot was pretty simple, but that's not a mark against the movie. I was personally much more interested in Z and his history with the Marines.
Ains and Binz were just there, but they served their role. I liked how both of them were determined to carry out Z's plan even when they knew they would inevitably end up dying. It really shows how strong the Neo Marines' determination was.
! And it wouldn't be a One Piece movie without its fair share of funny moments. Like Brook commenting how he was younger but he didn't look any different, Binz's awkward Mosa Mosa faces, Zoro and Sanji's child-like bantering, etc.
For some reason, I found the scenes where Sanji used his fancy golden lighter (which apparently seems to be based on the lighter Oda designed himself) to be pretty funny. lol
! As for the fights, Zoro and Sanji's were really cool, even though they didn't last that long. Meteor Strike was neat and Santoryuu: Sennryuujin (?) looked alright, but I couldn't even see what it did.
The other Straw Hats got to show off for a bit against some random fodder, so I guess that's something.
But who cares about that? We all came here for Luffy and Z's fight.
! I really enjoyed the simple yet brutal brawl they had in their final clash.
A real, manly blow-for-blow dukefest. Good 'ol fisticuffs. Nothing really raises the tension like two guys trading blows….putting their feelings and passion into their fists.
! The cameos were such a great treat for long-time OP fans. I think this is the first movie to have this many cameo characters appear.
Kuzan's involvement in the story was well-done. He really has the makings of being a future ally to the crew. Also, Garp, Coby, Sengoku, Helmeppo, Tashigi, Smoker, Doberman, asbabsuadasuasdabdo...
! And the OST is great. Although, some songs did sound familiar or re-hashed.
! The ending brought me on the verge of tears. Such a manly way to go out......
At the end of the day, when it comes to One Piece movies, the most I care about is the emotional impact. And damn, this move had it in spades.
! Anyway, my hands are getting tired so I'll just say that this is the best One Piece movie to date.
Much better than Strong World. Much better than Dead End Adventure. Much better than Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island....
It just blows all the others out of the water. It's going to be really hard to top this movie.
! I have to give it a very strong 9.5/10. This would definitely be the One Piece movie I'd recommend heavily to fans who haven't watched the movies before
Definitely my favorite One Piece Movie. It was great, and pretty much gave me exactly what I wanted from a One Piece movie. As opposed to movie 6 where I can understand why some people like it so much, but to me it went from super generic filler fest to something that just didn't feel like One Piece at all
About Aokiji
! I wonder how the manga version will pan out when they meet him and Luffy goes "Hey, what happened to your leg?!" again.
Won't happen, unless he sees Aokiji naked again, which i doubt. It's not like he wears short shorts.
"you suck navy"
Yaaay glad to see it subbed!!
… Which uses a font in the subtitle that totally broke another font on my computer :'D (seriously would it not hurt to use arial...) But it's great to see it in english at last.
I just finished watching it….
It was incredible. Damn, the ending got me all teared up.
The fist fight between Luffy and Z was amazing and intense, and I think the fact that there was no music made it even better. The fighting animation in general... pure eyegasm. Also, Z's last fight, man, I started to cry.
It was epic.
Ocean's Guide was a great song.
This is the first sincere post I've made in a long time and probably will be the only one all month so cherish it
But I watched Film Z tonight. It is, no joke, my very first experience with one piece animated period. I really absolutely loved it though. Disregarding all the sort of fascination I had with basic things other people have experienced for decades (like Luffy's voice wasn't what I was expecting at all, it was neat, the VAs in general ruled), I was just really impressed.
There was something strange about seeing so much of Kizaru and the marines in general, but I basically loved everything else. Probably my favorite scenes were all with Aokiji, he just so sincerely stole the show. One of my favorite tropes is when former antagonists interact with the main characters on an amiable or friendly level (like that scene in FFVII when the Turks are on vacation and don't give a shit) and it just ruled so hard.
Aokiji should marry me basically.
And Z was a wonderful main villain. The whole fight with Luffy floored me since it was such a drunken tired brawl of a fight at the end which I can't remember much of ever happening before in One Piece. Love those kinds of clinchers. The final shot of Z was so good I wish it didn't smash cut into Avril Lavigne's aural abortion
P.S. that scene where Sanji sexualizes 8-year old Nami was just us going

You should definitely check out Movie 6, and possibly Strong World. The other 2 high points of Animated One-Piece (and a case can still be made for 6 being better than Z.) You may find yourself very, pleasantly, surprised.
Good news
My buddy who streamed Film Z did Movie 6 _directly afte_r because we had nothing better to do
So I just got done watching it.
I loved it but everybody should probably know why it might be too offtopic even for me to go into all the thoughts somebody can have about movie 6.

He wasn't sexualizing Nami. He just wanted to see her "mature" into a buxom older woman, if that makes sense. I could see how it could be taken out of context.
Plus, the subs don't help.
He was sexualizing Nami
In general, yes.
Yeah, that was uncomfortable to watch. Damn it, why does Sanji's personality have to be so overdone? He was one of my favorite characters too because of the Mr. Prince thing.

I don't know how these subs translated that, but yeah, they probably messed it up badly.
He said an advantage of her condition would be seeing Nami blossoming into a fine woman, which is a very Japanese thing. He wasn't sexualizing a 10 year old, for Christ's sake.
I absolutely loved Film Z. The movie had a really smooth pace and didn't get too slow at any point, which is something I think happened in Strong World. The backstory of Z was interesting, particularly because we really never get a movie villain in any anime with such depth. It really blew me away that a villain I had only known for 2 hours could bring me to tears with his death. The fights were top notch here, and so was the animation. Golly, the animation in the monster 3's fights were sofa king good, it was unreal. The credits were really nice to look at, even though I can't stand Avril Lavigne, let alone Avril Lavigne covering a damn Nickelback song.

on the other hand Usopp sayin Robin would be better staying 10 years younger like that was plain rude and uncalled for lol.

You are actually correct
Partly thanks to the Japanese blood that dwells within me, I have a very specific interest that most easily manifests in a state where I watch time-lapse video of prepubescent girls undergoing puberty and slowly growing breasts and developing broader hips, sort of like those videos of a flower blossoming overnight but sped up so it only takes a minute, or the ones of maggots eating dead roadkill
I don't have the patience to raise a real wife in my basement
What really got me was Z's short flashback at the very end
It was the first time that a One Piece movie made me cry
That ending really was the perfect way to end the movie. It tied up pretty much everything about Z's character, his motivations, and his ambitions. It was also really, really touching. As a story, this is probably the strongest of the One Piece films. I also really enjoyed the fact that the conclusion of the battle between Luffy and Z (which was sick and so very gutteral and manly) wasn't at all definitive. Both of them coming to the conclusion that beating the shit out of each other made them feel better was really satisfying. Generally speaking, I actually think Z is one of the coolest villains all around, even in the series proper.
I'm really looking forward to an actual high quality release of this in the future with better subtitles.
@Genocider:

Completely agree. I can't think of a better ending because it was just perfect.
For One Piece movie it was great, otherwise nah, didnt live hype.
at least it lived up to the hype much better than SW.
anyway am I the only one who got an impression that the plot tried really hard to be canon, but it couldn't?
I don't know how these subs translated that, but yeah, they probably messed it up badly.

If it were anyone else saying this statement*, I would agree…. but this is Sanji we're talking about here! The man is goddamn pervert! If it was so innocent, why did it have Nami blushing so badly? Yeah, she knew where he was going with this comment! I'm siding with Zoro, it was disgusting! But it was also classic Sanji comedy XD I had a good laugh.
*Yes even Brook. I know he's a pervert…but for some reason I see him as a more "innocent" pervert than Sanji. I could elaborate on this...but I won't. blah.
Guys I want a link to download the episode
One Piece Special: Glorious Island
i DLed the movie last night … i just forwarded the movie .. awesome animation quality ... will watch the movie tonight.. :) .. excited..
and WTF .. i seeded 15 gigs in just one night ... damn.. i will try to seed for atleast 1 week if this is the uploading speed..
and... WHAT .. is there another sea train in new world.. ??
@OPF:
Can you maybe upload your corrected sub-file? Me too saw the many mistakes but don't know how to correct them.
Okay, here's the sub file I revised. Spelling errors and grammar are pretty easy to fix using notepad.
http://www22.zippyshare.com/v/84286540/file.html
The strangest error I found is how the translator calls the volcanic hotspots "Final Points" early on, but then switches to the correct "End Points" halfway through, even though they're clearly saying "End Point" phonetically in English.
I don't know how these subs translated that, but yeah, they probably messed it up badly.
He said an advantage of her condition would be seeing Nami blossoming into a fine woman, which is a very Japanese thing. He wasn't sexualizing a 10 year old, for Christ's sake.
Actually, the subs got it across pretty well. He states that it was a golden opportunity to see Nami mature from a "larvae into a beautiful butterfly." Considering he's likening her current child state to a larvae/caterpillar it's pretty clear he's not sexualizing her current form, but looking forward to her transformation into a goddess (in Sanji's mind). The visual montage is actually a bit more disturbing than what he's actually saying. Though watching it again, its a bit hard to tell if he was thinking to himself with Nami and Zoro reacting to Sanji's over-the-top lovey-dovey reactions or if he was speaking aloud. A bit of both?
I know Toei likes toying with Sanji's obsession with feminine beauty, but it will be a cold day before even the anime team tries giving him a lolita complex.
Is this movie cannon? Or will u be surprised to find a two legged Kuzan in the manga?

Thanks. That'll be interesting. Hopefully it'll be more fleshed out when the manga covers it.
I do really like the fact that Black Fist Zephyr gives us a hint to Sanji donning haki on his leg and actually earning his name of Black Leg Sanji.
Well,a question came from the movie that maybe I was supposed to know the answer but I really don't know it.
! In Z's past we learn that a shichibukai cut his arm off.Do we know who actually was?

No, we only know that said person joined the shichibukai one year ago, meaning he is the final and unknown one.
Oh I see. Thanks for letting me know ^_^
