Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2

I'm talking about background informations, turn your brain on before replying to me.Ah but you see,we do get background information, quite a bit of it.Background on hundreds of years of slavery, about how widespread it used to be and ho it was mosly abolished, yet how it still persists in certain places?History of mutual xenophobia between the fishman race and humans,as well as the troubled history of the country's foreign relations?Information about Water 7's economic depression from it's recent history, fueled by the rapidly worsening geographical problems? The ethnic conflict that had been raging on between Shandians and Skypeians that had raged on for generations? The impication that an entire set of ethnic tribes are of extra-terrestrial origin?Terrible class inequility in the Kingdom of Goa?
That's background info. Most of the place we go,we get something on that location's cultural and historical bacgrounds,if only just a snippet.
But apparently, those are less interesting than the tales of "strong old dudes",so whatever.
fans even care about random shit like "minkmen".
That random shit is what's implied to be an entire new race.Something like that is incomparably more essential to the world-building than an isolated tale of some hypothetical dude who had eaten Whitebeard's fruit had been shitting shockwaves out of his ass at random enemies.
Fans can and should care about the Minkmen. Not so sure about the hypothetical cool old dudes though.

I want to know why Monkey King has been posting in the manga section of the forum. He, like…never does.
Is this, like, in preparation for April Fool's day or something? :ninja:

It's because Kaidou has the Monkey King zoan.

Now that's some good theory.
I thought monkey king got hit in head or something. -
Was just rereading the Big Mom chapters and had a thought; From her actions BM seems to be as much of a pun on 'Big Maw' as anything. Now with Oda throwing in Harpies and minkmen and whatnot I'm wondering if she may be a rukorukubi. Snakenecks are one of the listed races after all. Just a thought.

And thus, the Red Line.
Why the we have day and night - I don't know. The most I can say is that the One Piece star is circles the world.

The Red Line is like a Prime Meridian not the Equator. The Grand Line is like the Equator.

@Monkey:

Honest, if somewhat ridiculous, question: do we actually have any basis for that? I'm not sure if it's ever even been implied that, for example, the One Piece world has a magnetic north and south pole, and certainly given the whole business of how Log Poses work within the grand line, the One Piece world doesn't play by the same rules ours does.
-
@Monkey:

Not per se. As far as I know it has never been stated where the magnetic North and South pole of the One Piece world are. Maybe they are halfway on both parts of the Grand Line (Paradise & New world). It can be possible then.
-

The Red Line is unquestionably more northward oriented, though as has been pointed out both Lines are probably more diagnal if the Blues are really compass directions.
and certainly given the whole business of how Log Poses work within the grand line, the One Piece world doesn't play by the same rules ours does.
The implication isn't the OP world is different, it's that the Grand Line alone is. It's supposed to be this insane area with all sorts of fantastical shit in it relative to the ordinary Blues.

Common wisdom is that the Blues occupy the extremes. Meaning the North pole would be in North Blue, and south pole in South Blue. The location of the polls doesn't have anything to do with magnetism, it's about the tilt and rotation patterns OPEarth has to OPSun.
Global Pole and Magnetic Pole are different things. -

I just realized something horrible.
The whole world, except for those who were with the Straw Hats, thought the Straw Hat Pirates were dead. Granted, some might have doubted they were dead, but the Straw Hats were still dormant for two years. I can just imagine how devastated most, if not, all of those who befriended the Straw Hats during their pre-timeskip journey were. Especially Vivi - how sad she must have been.

Everyone know they were alive since Luffy came back to Marinford.

Why would any of the people who cares for the strawhats believe they are dead since Luffy came back to MarineFord and seemed just fine.

Why would any of the people who cares for the strawhats believe they are dead since Luffy came back to MarineFord and seemed just fine.
Because that happened two years ago and no news of them during those two years.
-
400MillionBelis is actually right. Even if their friends and family did have faith in them, there's absolutely no way they weren't worried and I'm sure that the possibility of their deaths entered their minds. Especially for the East Blue crew. The Grand Line is known as the Pirate's Graveyard for a reason and the Strawhats in particular had a meteoric rise to fame - we know that thanks to their post-time skip ages, far less than a year has passed since Luffy set sail from Dawn Island. I'm sure a lot of their friends had doubts about them being alive and, in some cases, probably outright believed the rumors of their death.
-
@400MillionBelis:
Because that happened two years ago and no news of them during those two years.
Luffy showedup perfectly fine and between two powerful pirates who can protect and no one has any evidence about them being dead. Pretty sure after storming Ennias Lobby their friends have enough faith of them to not think they are dead just because you don't heard about them.
-
Okay, so this idea's a little off the wall but it was just something I was thinking about. Kinemon has the ability to create disguises… so what if he is actually in a disguise himself? What if he and Momonosuke really aren't samurai, but are disguised as such? I mean, there's something hinky going on with them - they won't name names when it comes to their missing comrades and there's something between Momo and Doflamingo.
Now I know people will say something like 'oh, but there's the care taken towards the sword' and 'but they act like samurai too' but what if his power isn't only to generate a disguise but to make it, when applied fully, as another persona? As in, it over-rides certain actions to make them actually believe that they are what they're disguised as?As I said, off the wall and probably quite wrong, but just a small thing I was thinking about.
@Above: However, the whole journey from East Blue to Red Line took about/less than a year. During that time they were in the spotlight a LOT - like, at least every few months. Two years worth of absence would make their friends start to wonder why they haven't heard about them, especially since they aren't privy to what was going on behind the scenes. As far as they knew one moment they were with two big shots and doing fine. Then, no news for two years. They probably hoped and figured they were okay, but they most likely did worry about them after months apon months worth of silence. I mean, Luffy tends to get noticed and two years of no news about him, when the rest of the world considered him dead, would have been enough to make you at least wonder now and then if the world weren't right in their supposition.
Their only hope was that the Navy hadn't made a big deal of capturing the Mugiwaras, but even barring that, many ships had been lost at sea, destroyed in the New World and just plain vanished. They had no way of knowing that this hadn't happened to the crew, just hope that it hadn't. -
Shouldn't the picture in the newspaper give hints to those that know the Strawhats? Come on, those that know them would be basically beaten with a cluebat that something is going on, considering Luffy's un-luffy behaviour. Also, Vivi already noticed the "tatoo" on Luffy and wondered what it is about

Yeah, that's why people are always making threads about those so so called hypothecial dudes like "Bronze" or your stupid minkmen who are probably just meant as a joke. It even hasn't much to do with fan service, it's just unlogical that no one ever had the gura gura fruit or another terribly strong fruit like the darkness or the ice fruit and did something that's worth mentioning.
Fans can and should care about the Minkmen. Not so sure about the hypothetical cool old dudes though.
Why are you pretending that good characters aren't the most important thing about a shonen manga story? Weirds me out.

Nope, all of this is background information and worlbuilding 101.

Ahahahahahaha.
FUCK FLESHING OUT THE SETTING AND STUFF!I WANT STRONG OLD DUDES!
your stupid minkmen who are probably just meant as a joke.
Yeah, there was this other race of wacky creatures who turned out to be nothing more than a jo..oh wait.Even if Oda doesn't give Minkmen more than a fraction of significance that the fishmen had, they are still worth the interest BECAUSE THAT'S A FUCKING NEW RACE.Worldbuilding man, woldbuilding.
it's just unlogical that no one ever had the gura gura fruit or another terribly strong fruit like the darkness or the ice fruit and did something that's worth mentioning.
It is however entirely possible that whatever they did is simply not that relevant to the events that are occuring now and completely unimportant to the story.
Why are you pretending that good characters aren't the most important thing about a shonen manga story? Weirds me out.
Huh?Now it's suddenly about good characters?Since when did "strong" and "old" become imperative qualities of a good character?Wasn't that dependant on the quality of characterization and development?
A character's fighting strength and the era they come from has absolutely jackshit to do with how good of a character they are.
Your stance weirds me out.

Devil Fruits probably grow on the Grand Line somewhere.
Before the Great Pirate Age generally people weren't fucking around on the Grand Line.
In other words less people were headed out to that place where crazy fruits like the Earthquake one are.
Ergo you aren't actually thinking anything through. Why are you pretending that good characters aren't the most important thing about a shonen manga story? Weirds me out.
Because this is One Piece and not Bleach.
-
@Monkey:

I don't know what this conversation is about but are you saying Bleach has good characters and it focuses on their good characters, unlike One Piece - which doesn't have good characters? O.o
-
Yeah, I think that Zephos got confused for a second there.
-
Yeah, I think that Zephos got confused for a second there.
Not to put words in his mouth, but I took it as him making a counter to the claim that characters are the most important aspect in making a good shonen. I'm not about to defend Bleach as being good, but that's just the point; since, if Bleach does have any claim to a strength whatsoever, it's its characters. I believe Kubo even once went on record as saying that, whenever he was strapped for ideas, he'd just create a whole bunch of new characters, which can be seen clearly enough at the start of every new arc. Likewise, much of the interest fans seem to have in it has always been character-centered. I never saw much in the way of people wondering where this intriguing plot could be going next, but there was always plenty of speculation on what the various unrevealed Bankais could be, or who would beat whom in a fight.
On the other paw, One Piece is as great as it is because of all the aspects it excels at. That's obviously not to say that Oda doesn't create great characters, or that that isn't a strength of the manga, but to claim that it is the thing of sole importance, above world building, the weaving of the plot, the sense of adventure, and any number of other things, is pretty absurd.

I never really associated that with GOOD CHARACTERS, though. Because all of his characters suck or have been systematically ruined. It's just a classic marketing ploy to drum up interest in your product: Introduce new shit. And he ends up tossing a bunch of clones into his manga, which are promptly forgotten.
If you and Zephos are arguing against that approach being applied to One Piece, then I wholeheartedly agree.
@Panda:

But with Bleach, characters aren't the main focus, action is the main focus. Same with Naruto. That's why there are always a shitload of people complaining about "when are we gonna get to the fights already?" or debating about power levels. They don't understand that One Piece isn't that kind of manga.
-
Um,guys,I think you should read my exchange with Kanzen and the context of Zephos' reply will become clear.

I'm saying hyper focus on OOOH YEAH STRONG DUDES POWER UPS is Bleach shit. Since I know that's what he means by "good".

Forget about these things , does anyone wants to see Mizu Luffy again ? After seeing what wergo did with bamboo i wondered what if luffy shot water like that with COA wouldnt that be so cool , also luffy has jimbeis blood and there was a talk about DFs effecting blood stream of humans so can luffy be first swimming DF user ? I mean wouldnt that be great since he also wants to swim and gaining a little fishmen powers wouldnt hurt , talking wales etc… I think Jimbei didnt join for that reason mizu luffy will be back :) With this luffy also will have something other DF users hasnt like BB , when i look at the collesium i noticed there was water everywhere so i thought what if that was the plot to awaken luffys new powers .

LOL no edits for the eternal Banned folks like us ;) Yeah I figured you meant that he wasn't the only one who can swim, but he was the only one Non-DF user I can think of that nearly drowned. Zoro, Nami, Usopp & Franky have been shown to swim but none have had a drowning experience. Heck of them, Usopp's been shown to swim a lot -usually in a cover page, I can think of 2 that he's swimming alone in , 1- us him doing some spear fishing with a lot fish and a whale swimming above him, then post-timeskip he's in a race with some otters. In the mange though its not shown much for the crew to swim.

Do you really think Zoro has lost his left eye, or will he at some point just open it and there will be a "Hawk eye"?

I for one, wouldn't mind or even hope that it's just a wounded eye. nothing special to see there.

EvoWarrior5:

I don't know, given the level of destruction in OP, and the fact that the scar is mostly around the eye, + even with "while training" Mihawk still doesn't seem like the 'really holding back' type to confine the damage to just the eye area. Makes me just think all signs point to possibly being just a 'normal' wounded eye, but hope it's status will change eventually. Otherwise it seems almost just there to be placed as a way to make the SH's more "like traditional pirates"?

Luffy also almost drowned when Higuma threw him in the sea. Or did you mean without a DF?
-
Luffy also almost drowned when Higuma threw him in the sea.
That is different, the original post pointed out that Sanji is shown as a good swimmer. 1- Luffy has never been able to swim, 2- he already was a DF user by then ans so can never swim. All of the DF users on crew have ended up in the sea at some point, since they can't swim, they were at risk of drowning then.
-
Do you really think Zoro has lost his left eye, or will he at some point just open it and there will be a "Hawk eye"?
It would be kinda a cliché if "Hawk Eye" where to be some super eye anyone can obtain.
I like to think of it as a payment for the training, Zoro is after Mihawk's life after all. Mihawk going all out in training is just as possible.
Edit: I think Luffy found himself a bronze statue or is that a poneglyph?!
-
Like the rest of the lies Usopp has told, his lie that there was a beautiful swordswoman with meat at Thriller Bark will come true with Rebecca when at some point in the arc she offers Luffy meat, maybe in an intermission or at the end of the arc.
-
Rebecca = Kyros (with the help of Ivankov)
-
Rebecca is a former Kuja Empress that left Amazon Lily to follow her lover, who was killed by Doflamingo.
