In my opinion, HD ruined One piece animation. animation became inconsistent only when they moved it (err..transfered it, I don't know the right word) onto the bigger screen. remember when Luffy went Gear 2 against Lucchi in the first HD episodes? Animation was weird as hell.

The big problem since early 2010 has been that there's no big episodes in the rotation. There literally has not been a battle episode with talented animators or even a higher number of drawings. It doesn't help that the directing and music selection in general have become uninspired, either.
-
Not to mention that thing where they seem to have thrown the idea of consistency out of the window, instead giving individual scenes like ten times the framerate and detail of the rest of that particular episode… I mean, yeah, the series has always looked inconsistent from episode to episode, but is it really too much to ask that they try to keep the art- and animation-style and quality consistent within one 24-minute episode, rather than have 20 minutes of sub-par animation and then BAM, the last scene suddenly looks amazing?
But yeah, the biggest problem I can see with the anime these days is sub-par directing and an apparent inability to keep a consistent tone. Like, I was rewatching the end of Skypiea recently, and while I know a lot of people don't care all that much for that arc… I was just impressed by how consistently suspenseful the climax of that arc was. Or how about Enies Lobby? That was the point where I caught up with the anime and the pacing did admittedly rather bother me at that point... but I also seem to recall each individual episode being far more gripping than anything that's come out since, oh… Sabaody?

Also gutted I won't be able to stay up late enough to claim what I have called dibs on for over a year, but it will be mine.

Some of Law's expressions were gold in 593. He and Robin will make a good couple.

I wish they hadn't swapped the voices for the characters whose minds were switched. I think it would've been more entertaining if the original voice actors and actresses of that particular character tried to feign the personality of the character that was swapped in.

I really hope we get a filler arc starting on ep 600…
And those pics are so cute ahhh cx

wtf how? and no we won't get one
We're gonna have to get one soon…the pacing won't get better if they keep doing this

They have kept doing this since thriller bark, 1 chapter=1 episode means they won't run out of material to adapt,They don't give a fuck about the quality of the apcing since they keep getting the same good ratings.

But it started getting really bad after the timeskip, then the animation got worse too. I only noticed it being bad at Marineford but then that Post-War arc was good again imo…then came the timeskip and it was too obvious that they didn't care anymore lol
But yea, I guess hoping for a filler arc would be too good and like you said, they're getting away with what they're doing. -

However, the animation has been improved since punk hazard arc so yea. -

The reason why Marineford Arc looked terrible was because One Piece Staff had little money.
And the Fishman Island Arc looked terrible mainly because of the Nami Special.

Yes, they will. The manga often take breaks these years, but the anime has little chance to have a rest since it was moved to Sunday morning.

That's true, now if it could just stay that way..>_> -

I take it you haven't seen the next 5 episode listing saying that we aren't?
Besides toei is too cheap to do it anyway so there. They'll just keep dragging the material weather you like it or not.
-

I really don't think money had anything to do with it, as episode budgets are usually pretty consistent. It was likely because the more of the talented and better quality animation teams were diverted to other Toei projects (Strong World?).

That' solved with the toriko crossovers and the movie tie-ins, in the wrost of cases we got recap episodes like those two just before Marineford. But we won't get long filler arcs which would help the pacing like g-8, warship island, etc…
The anime also takes an ocassional break once in a while.

Why the hell would you want a filler arc smack dab in the middle of a canon arc?
-
-
Did someone just wish for a filler arc during Punk Hazard?
Get out. -
Why the hell would you want a filler arc smack dab in the middle of a canon arc?
Cuz I still have hope that the pacing will get better? (Idk why though lol). And cuz Punk Hazard deserves good pacing and animation.

These could have been the oh-yeah-let-us-have-a-fu*king-better-pacing solution.
-

Yeah, because nothing says "let's help this arc's pacing" like dropping a random filler right in the middle of it and sending the plot and tension to a complete halt.

Who's that gay hipster to the left of Luffy? Is that Sanji's VA?
