@Jimbei:
Hello, HxH thread goers!
Recently, after finally getting a friend into One Piece after years of convincing him the 700/500+ chapters/episode journey was worth it, he and another friend suggested Hunter X Hunter to me. I became hooked instantly and am currently in Greed Island. However, with all of the criticism about the art, I have to wonder whether I should spend the money to continue purchasing the tankos. I've noticed some panels in the more recent volumes (Mostly since the start of GI) are a bit poor, but for the most part, the art has remained up to par. Do the tankos get considerably worse? I've heard volume 30 is particularly poor, and I'm sure I'll have to seriously consider whether I purchase that one, but what of the others?
The art in the tanks is largely cleaned up from the original publication. The art does degrade quite a bit, but its much much worse in the scanlations you'd find on the net, which use the original weekly versions that are just plain awful.
The most recent tank (30 I think) did not clean up the art at all however and is very scribbly.
Really your best bet might just be to watch the ongoing anime, which is about to start the chimera ant arc, which is where you are. Obviously we don't know what the final quality will be on that arc, but it should be pretty solid.
@valiantt:
How else would you subvert that trope without making Kaito into another trope?
Troping isn't inherently bad, and neither is cliche, and anything that runs for a length of time is eventually going to hit on lots and lots of tropes. Everything has been done, and stuff gets to the point of cliche for a reason.
Spinning the story in a weird direction JUST to spin it in a weird direction or to be unpredictable isn't always good.
