Baby-5 DF is Paramecia type and yet it looks like Logia type more..
And someone explain how can Dofla fly through the sea like that? His DF?
Chapter 694: A Very Dangerous Man
-
-
If Monet isn't dead now I don't know what the fuck Oda is doing anymore. I mean, it wouldn't surprise me if she magically survives, but after being stabbed in the heart that's just a huge asspull, I don't care if she's a logia or whatever.
-
How could CC stab Monet's heart? isn't she Logia?
Same way Law could squeeze Smoker's. Maybe the DF is inhibited due to Law's power. It could be that CC naturally imbues a bit of haki into everything he does as a precaution to existing in the new world with numerous high tier pirates. It's also possible that Logia powers require full attention to be fully permeable, meaning that her heart may still retain snow-like properties such as being cold or something but is still tangible. It's not too big a deal.
-
i think it's cause the heart is encased in sea water
-
could b because the heart is separated from the main body
-
Guys, it's been said already that Logias don't automatically turn to their element. They have to activate it.
Since Monet had no knowledge of Caesar's stabbing, she wouldn't have been able to change it to snow in the first place.
-
logia can be hit by sudden attacks i remember, am I wrong?
This was an old theory someone was talking about long time agoEDIT: to Galaxy 9000: I'm exactly talking about it
-
Flamingo man, flamingo man. . .
Does wathever a flamingo can. . .
Other than that, great chapter. The wait is gonna be a fucking agony. . .
-
I'll believe Monet's dead when the manga says in no uncertain terms that she is not only merely dead, she's really most sincerely dead.
Now stop acting like a bunch of edgy teenagers -
well great chapter oda ended the year with a bang about monet i think she is dead yes she is a great character but oda has been building up the moment of her death for 2 chapters and i don't think she have a role in the future , so dd can fly thats cool i think what pell meant about 5 flying fruits is about 5 bird fruit like his devil fruit , and dd an chiki use spacial skills from there devil fruit to fly

Doflamingo is Nyan Catting his way over to Punk Hazard.
-
I loved this chapter, that last panel of Doflamingo is wicked. I love the fact that he wants to be pirate king. Does he really wanna be his own kind of pirate king? Or is he ACTUALLY looking for One Piece? And if so does that mean that Raftel is a place where not even the elders could go?
Cause if Doflamingo is a son or grandson of one of them and they knew the location, you'd think he'd be like "dad/grandpa…. ummm.. where's Raftel? because i wanna be pirate king. " Or find a way to get the location from them.
Sure they probably wouldnt tell him, but does that mean that they KNOW that One Piece holds the power to topple their government? And if that's the case are THEY the reason no one can get to Raftel? For some reason i always thought the elders knew how to get to Raftel but couldnt find or get to the One Piece on the island.
-
@The:
Doflamingo is Nyan Catting his way over to Punk Hazard.
You answered my question. Thank you.
I still believe that Monet is dead.
Vergo just squeezed Law's Ope-ed heart and he collapsed. -
So if we see people actually getting sliced into pieces (not through Law's power), with real blood flying all over the place, are people still going to bring up Pell?
-
yeah. but in what manner? from the panel in looks like he's sprinting to PH. but those curvy motion lines don't help
If Dofla does use string or wires, maybe he's moving across the ocean like a pond skating bug, on lots of very fine legs coming from his fingers!
-
DAAAYYUMM! :w00t: What a way to end the year.
First of all Caribou is a better person than I expected after all. I thought that he would beat the old lady up and then steal her valuables.
I really have no idea what happens to Monet. My reason tells me that she's got to be dead, no one can survive getting their heart stabbed but then I think that Oda is just trying to troll us again. Anyway it was kinda heartbreaking scene.
Doflamingo is more hyped up than ever. I'm really curious about his relationship with his crew. He's willing to kill and sacrifice them and yet he seems to care about them. And they are perfectly okay with that. I really wonder what his power is too. Guess it's some kind of invisible string power but what are it's limitations? Can he just put his wires in the sky? :ermm:
-
Excellent suspenseful chapter, overall good, but nothing too amazing.
-Baby 5's devil fruit is incredibly cool with all the creative ways she puts it to use. I imagine certain fractions of the internet are pleased.
-So the wierd move to exchange Monet's heart for Law's stay has been negated.
-Man, Vergo and Monet are incredibly loyal to the Don. I wonder what their story is? This is actually kind of admirable and heartwarming.
-and Bam! The cliffhanger for the next 3 weeks. I feel like they'll meet Donflamingo, but get their asses kicked. -
Please Oda.. let Monet be dead..
If you want to bring her again.. bring her as a zombie of Morea's army to take revenge on Dofla. -
Monet is alive, btw. That's how One Piece is. Characters have survived worse than even a stab in the heart. Hell, Law survived a punch in the heart.
-
I want Dofla to totally kick the Strawhats, Laws and the marines asses. And when he is just about to kill them, Franky and the Heart Pirates comes and save them.
-
@The:
Doflamingo is Nyan Catting his way over to Punk Hazard.
This actually explain a lot of things.
It's kinda obvious the difference between Doflamingo and CC here; while CC would not give a shit about his men, Doflamingo did worry about Monet and Vergo.
I just hope that Momo will not be influenced somehow again by Doflamingo and ending screwing up everything. -
Monet is alive, btw. That's how One Piece is. Characters have survived worse than even a stab in the heart. Hell, Law survived a punch in the heart.
What's worse than a stab straight through a vital organ?
-
@Galaxy:
What's worse than a stab straight through a vital organ?
A hole right through the stomach by a magmafist?

I'm trying to imagine it animated. and i can't.

Ok, kind of text wall ahead, basicaly ramblings this chapter provoked in me mixed with some questions:
For the first time in One Piece, I'm actualy AFRAID a character might be truly dead. I was expecting a squeeze, but STABBING a heart with an icicle??? Talk about overdoing it. . .
So, that. I'm afraid Monet might be dead. Was she done in the story? I know she was a minor mid-boss character, but where do you put her? What type of mid-boss character is she? So far, we've had:
In Skypiea, the 4 priests were mid-bosses, just like her, but they had no more relevance other than providing a fight, and except for Gedatsu, who got an excedingly hilarious (though quite irrelevant to the bigger scheme of things) cover story, they have not (and will not) appear in the manga again.
Then, we have Baroque Works and Thriller Bark, were the mid-bosses have long-lasting relevance. Mr. 1 seems to be Croc's buddy for life, Mr. 3 is with Buggy and Mr. 2 is one of the most memorable characters in One Piece. In Thriller Bark we had Perona, who had some minor relevance later-on (and a bonus appearance on a cover story), and Hogbak and Absalom were seen at the end of the arc sailing with Moriah; also, we must not forget it was quite possibly Absalom who saved Moriah's ass when Dofla was kicking his ass.
So, what will it be for Monet (and Vergo)? Skypia priest or BW agent? Long lasting or arc-contained? You guys feel their role is over in One Piece?
Related to this, I think the last two chapters have had some of the best post-time skip moments, which are Monet and Vergo's loyalty with Dofla, and him actualy not being a dick about it. Is he manipulating them, or is he being honestly caring? For once, I also hope he's not being a manipulative bastard just to make him even more "evil" and extra piss off Luffy. That already was Caesar's shtick, and it worked just fine.
Vergo's silent smile and Monet's "you're gonna be the pirate king after all" were highlights for me, specially the first one. Subtle and yet touching.
And I could see Dofla facing everyone. His powers make for great scenarios where he puts everyone vs everyone in a chaotic battlefield. And let's not forget mutilating and decapitating are not alien to him.
It's about TIME Luffy and co. face a true nemesis after the TS. They had their East Blue walk in the park till now, let's kick it up a notch, shall we?

@Galaxy:
Swamp is a natural element (mud).
Swamp is not a natural element.. It is a type of forest (well actually, they are wetland that are forested)
-
Facing Dofla so soon? Oh man.
The chapter has a lot of nice touchs like Baby 5's terminatrix DF, Dofla using his wires like Sunny's hair from Toriko. But above all is the new look into DoFlamingo's character that Oda has been building, far from being a cold blooded gangster he cares for his partners and he is angered enough to move on his own to wipe Law and the strawhats. Something big is surely going to happen.
-
A hole right through the stomach by a magmafist?
Ace died from that…
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Swamp is not a natural element.. It is a type of forest (well actually, they are wetland that are forested)
Still fits in with the Logia tree due to consisting of Natural elements.
-
Doflamingo is just using a more advanced stage of "Sky walk" which is "Sky Jump", "Sky Bounce" or "Sky Hop". That's what I think, I mean at that last page it clearly shows his legs in front of him which indicates he jumped or his hopping and with his hands like that n veins it shows Dofla is jumping with all his strength..
-
About "only 5 flying DF abilities" thing…
On One Piece Shimbun vol.1, they say "Only 5 MODELS of TORI TORI FRUIT have been confirmed."
So abilities of Shiki, Buffalo, Doflamingo, and all Logia types are not included. -
A lot of you might have realized this but even though Monet was stabbed, i don't know if she is dead or not because when the icicle pierced through her heart, snow began to fall around her, so is it like some kind of unconscious activation of her devil fruit to protect her or this activation was simply because she was about to die?
-
I only read until page 8 (this forum) and I need to say it seems people forget the extent that some powers can get in OP. Im talking about Blueno for example, he could make a door in the atmosphere itself, and that is how I believe Dofla is flynig, he's ataching his strings in the very air and constantly pulling it.
Sure I can be wrong but it (or something related to it) is NOT hard to imagine.Another thing, Vergo is pretty much SAFE and SOUND for now, Dofla only talked to him as if he was gonna die because he believed the explosion would be a Huge one. He (vergo) is conscious and not that hurt, if he can get assembled he will be just fine, the only thing to be worried about is the collapsing lab but we dont know what will happen about it.
…And the explosion thing, this is probably just a detail but I'm thinking that a huge explosion was indeed supossed to happen, but someone may have sabottaged or stolen part of the bonb/gas bonb (I know, very unlikely). -
Yeah DoFlan seems to show high regards to Vergo and Monet which gives him the impression of being a decent guy to his comrades, but did everyone kinda forget what he did to Bellamy and Sarquis? Im pretty sure he percieves his crew as expendable (aside from CC) much like Crocodile, though their relationship might be a bit more profound due to their seemingly extensive history (which differs from Croc whom I guess has very little relations with his group outside of Baroque Works).
Though, based on what we have seen so far, I am really intriguied with DoFlas backstory. It is clear that Oda has put a lot of thought into his character not to have a repeat of Croc. I really hope we get to see his, Kuma, and Crocs story. We already got Jinbei, Hancock, and Blackbeards (kinda)…and Mihawk is bleh so far so Im not really invested in his at the moment.
-
Folks would you please highlight a thing or two that would make me start believing that Doffy can do real damage to all of the 'rookies' he is planning to go up against?
I can't see how he can put up a fight when he fights against Law, Luffy, Zoro, Smoker, Sanji and the other folks. He has got to be exactly Admiral level, or if we consider Yonkou are stronger than Admirals, Yonkou level to pull such thing off. And wouldn't that be overdoing it for Doflamingo? Exactly after his 'buddy' and the most loved mate Vergo just got ONE-SHOTTED by Law?
-
I can't wait for the next chapter! But I have to :(
What if Doflamingo has a wind paramecia that can cut? It would explain how he cut Crocodile's head and he could also use it to push himself in the air…
Is monet dead? I don't think so(Allthough I wouldn't care if she was).
It's interesting how Doflamingo cares for his crew but still has other priorities that he considers more important (Artificial zoan army).
Is the gorosei member there because Doflamingo is a shichibukai or do they have another type of "relation-ship"? Who are the people who were searching for him in Dressrosa? -
I'm trying to imagine it animated. and i can't.
I rustled up a little diagram for ya!
!
Try to imagine the legs coming from his fingers (explaining the weird leapfrog pose). They'd be invisible to the naked eye, leaving us with the bobbing motion as he walks on water.

@Galaxy:
Ace died from that…

Damn it. I didn't read you response properly, lol.
Something tells me Monet isn't dead, though. If she is, props to everyone, but this is One Piece and Monet's death would have absolutely no influence on character growth or even the world at large. It's very unlike this series. All of the big deaths influenced someone's growth in Whitebeard's case the world state at large. I think there's like a few "pointless deaths" that have been, like the group at Alabasta which drunk the death water or Bellamy.
-
Ha people saying Doflamingo cares about his henchmen. Remember Bellamy, Disco, and Monet. Doflamingo only cares about the henchmen that will help further his interests! He is probably only going there to get CC to continue creating SAD!
-

Monet's death will help to develop Doflamingo's character.
Speaking of Bellamy, he's probably not dead, due to Doflamingo telling him he'd let him choose his destiny.
-
What was up with the "Sorry" to Mone last week and Vergo's smile this week?
It's very clear that their loyalty is genuine. Dofla is pissed that his subordinates were taken out like that, isn't that the reason why he's heading out at the end of this freaking chapter?@Galaxy:

I guess that could be, but it's still tough to tell for now because of all the absurd things characters have survived in this series.
Luffy was stabbed through the stomach by Crocodile, the little kid that saw the whole thing with Bon Clay back at Alabasta survived, Pell, all the Skypieans, the pirate captain Hody let float to the surface from FI, Coribou. Now suddenly Monet dies? Dunno, but we'll see, I guess. -

Bellamy, Disco? Some random nobodies at the bottom of the barrel. DGAF. Vergo's grin and Monet's declaration on the other hand? They actually matter. Probably been with Flamingo since the beginning.
Shishio, Zabuza. Just two people who likely mirror Flamingo. Of course there's a chance that Flamingo really doesn't care, but Oda's presentation seems to heavily suggest otherwise.

So here is my review:
-Just as expected from Caribou. A kind old woman saves him, so he returns the favor by robbing her. This cover story has great potential, i really want it to finish with the appearance of Drake / Kaidou, it would be really awesome. In my opinion, these stories are one of the best things Oda has come up with, even more when they connect with the main story, like with Coby and Helmeppo's, Enel's or Wapol's.
-Franky doesn't have a scratch on him, just as i hoped. Wapolmetal sure is durable. I always thought Franky is closer to the monster trio than any of the other crewmates, so it's a pleasure to have him finally kicking asses like this. Well done Oda. It's also nice to see a kickass and interesting woman like Baby-5, not to mention how funny it is the fact that she buys weapons even when she has the weapon weapon fruit, only because she thinks she's needed
-Caesar, you mad motherfucker. He really is the kind of guy Luffy hates the most, just pure evil and despicableness wrapped on a blue coat. One of the best villains of the series in my honest opinion.
-Doflamingo is becoming more interesting chapter by chapter, i never disliked him but i wanted him to talk less and act more. This turn on his character, with him seemingly having a deep bond with their subordinates, unlike what it seemed at first, makes me want to see his backstory even more.
-Monet's heart has been stabbed. I don't know how she could survive from this, and i don't want her to, either. "They do say that those who do good will get good things in return." Law, you naughty boy
-Flamingoman is coming to the island. It's obvious he won't fight, at least not against Luffy, Smoker and co., so i think the main possibilities are:
-1: He's able to return to Dressrosa with Caesar, Baby 5 and Buffalo, or maybe even with Vergo, and Monet in case that she's not dead. The last two seem very unlikely, after both of them talked to him like they were never going to meet again, but to be honest they were interesting, and i wouldn't mind seeing more of them. But like i said, after her heart has been stabbed, at least Monet should die.
-2: He arrives too late and gets pissed off greatly.
Any of the two could bring an interesting development of the events.
All in all, great chapter, discussions are gonna get interesting on this break for sure.
-
Great chapter.
Prediction : Law and/or Chopper will operate and save Monet's heart. That's the most logic way I can see her live.

And…why would they want to do that?
-
And…why would they want to do that?
Because they're doctors (the same reason why Law saved Luffy 2 years ago). And as doctors, I don't think they will let someone die if they can prevent it no matter how bad the person is (like the hippocratic oath IRL).
-
I'm ok with this "twist" on DoFlamingo's personality, as long as we get some reasoning to the whole Bellamy episode. He did force the guy to fight his own mate (the last scene has Sarquiss presumably stabbing Bellamy to death), and now all of a sudden he's "not such a bad guy". Some background would be appreciated.
-
Monet is a logia. That might save her. Or not :D

You're stretching farther than Luffy.

you realize that law is the one that put her in that situation ?

It's been said already, but I guess it's pretty obvious that Bellamy wasn't one of his "crew", like Vergo, Monet and co. are. Like Disco wasn't one of his crew either. Or Caesar.
And noone is implying Dofla ain't an evil bastard. Arlong was plenty evil, and he got mad angry at anyone who dared to touch any of his comrades, even fodder comrades. Doesn't take away from his evilness.
BTW, props to Dofla's crew for what seems the second group of baddies with the most females after Baroque Works. Monet, Baby-5, the granny and the loli, that's 4 that we know of.
The 2 haren masters, Croc and Dofla. Of course.
