It's so weird that Burgess is captain of corp #1, since you know that would mean he's the second stronger (guessing here). Zoro was supposed to be fighting Shiryu.
Well its kind of suprising but I do think that number isnt equall to strength when it comes to Blackbeard ships- kind of like Whitebeards division. It was said that Whitebeard commanders were very close in therms of strenght but we all know that top 3 was special in this regard.
For me its clear that Shiryu is more dangerous/deadly than Burgess. He joined Blackbeards crew being already a boss of impel down just like Magellan(perhaps slightly less deadly than poison guy thus he lost to him and ended up imprisoned in level 6).
Burgess is a monster but I see him more as Sanjis enemy in Blackbeards crew than anyone else. Shiryu is a safe bet to be Zoros guy to beat(especially if Shiryu will eat Diamond paramecia in future).
Could also be the case that Corp 1 is a weaker (relatively) crew compared to the core corp (consisting of BB, Shiryuu, etc.). So Burgess would be the strongest of that crew (being captain and all) but not necessarily the second in the entire BB crew.

I think you misunderstand the point I was making, I was merely pointing out that Oda not having reason to kill her off presents as much evidence as Oda not having reason to keep her alive. I was just saying that it's a weak case for why you think Monet is still alive. (Do you think the Yeti brothers are still alive? Oda doesn't have a reason to kill them off either…)
I'm quite puzzled as to what you would classify as a story reason to kill a character off. Isn't Oda deciding to kill a character enough reason?
if vergo and monet play no role in this arc but show up in the next cover story im just gonna pretend theyre dead just like enel and cp9
sadly if you had followed your own logic with say… Buggy, Pell, Hatchi, etc you'd be seeing quite a lot of dead people in the "canon"
1 in 3 chance apparently with proper medical attention…..but honestly, Monet's fine. She's not alive because of some weird loophole about the injury, but she is because Oda has no story reason to kill her off. We'll probably see her in a coverstory sooner or later.
Oda has no reason to keep her alive either…
