RE: Berserk
I loved the Eclipse, it's just so well done.. i've read through it so many times and i'm still not ready for it every time it comes up. It's just so tragic.. like it's suppose to be! Miura is such a god damn good writer.

RE: Berserk
The most common complaint i see is that Berserk is no longer dark and grim and it turned into a JRPG party where Puck is nothing but comedic relief.

RE: Berserk
Why makes you so sure of it?
On Young Animal's website, they show a preview for what's in the next issue, and Berserk was unfortunately not in the July 12th issue. :sad:
Even if i didn't like the movies, i'm sure there'll be more Berserk animation. I was hoping the movies would get popular enough so that Dark Horse would see the value in re-printing at least the older volumes of the manga. It's sad to think about when there's an ad in the blu-ray saying "Go buy and read the manga!" even though about 16 volumes are out of print including multiple ones in the Golden Age arc.

RE: Berserk
@Monkey:
YOU were arguing that there was nothing sexual to their relationship, that she was some sort of 8 year old cartoon shojo character who thought Griffith was cool.
She wasn't an 8 yr old shojo character, she was a naive 17yr old girl. There was nothing sexual at all about their relationship until the sex scene.
Charlotte wants Griffith to be her man, and to be his girl, and all that entails. Lusting can involve just generally heavy duty passion, not just hornyness. But you're quite blind to think sexual tension didn't exist on her part (Griffith of course was only using her and likely never felt a thing).
Where in the manga is there sexual tension between the two? Oh? There's sexual tension in every scene cause she's 17?
Let's recall what you underlined as not happening again.
"It showed the Princess wanting Griffith."
How could you even remotely think this wasn't a thing in the series, let alone manga.Yet again, I was talking about the DANCE in the ballroom scene and during that dance Charlotte is shown talking to Griffith and that entire dance scene didn't happen in the manga. Wow. So what i said was right, it didn't happen.

@Monkey:
Are you really reacting with dismissive sarcasm to the plot of the comic? Because that's not even subtext, it's right there.
You were arguing that she wanted to bang Griffith all the time, in every scene in the manga.. are you fuckin kidding me?

RE: Berserk
@Monkey:
Mr. Amazing? Griffith was (and actually now literally is) like the perfect bishonen dreamboat with good manners and heroic deeds and mamma mia. Charlotte wanted him like Luffy wants meat. In fact her having the hots for him, was kinda sorts part of Griffith's whole plan.
How naive she was or not has nothing to do with anything.
She WANTED him, and how you never noticed that blows my mind. I mean christ, she was 17, not 8.Wow.. really? lol I just.. i can't even reply to that. Brilliance. You won the entire discussion.
Can we talk about something else Berserk related? I'm so tired of talking about just two of my many complaints with the movies.

…do you have aspergers? Or are you autistic in some way?
Did you not see the end of my post before my last post?
My complaints aren't just with the sex scene in movie 2. There's other scenes i could complain about, but why are we still discussing this? You enjoyed it, i didn't. Were all Berserk fans. Let's just hope episode 334 is in the July 12 issue of YA, cause man has it been a long time.
I was already done discussing it, but you wanted to continue.. we can talk about the next episode, and what might be in it?

RE: Berserk
@RobbyBevard:
Except when they happened constantly throughout the story? Multiple times? Like in the parade scene?
I was talking about the ballroom scene here not the entire manga. Because you were talking about that scene in particular with "It showed" meaning the ballroom scene. Griffith never hits on the princess in the ballroom scene or even talks to her. She waves at Griffith and that's it and Griffith doesn't even notice.
It showed them SMILING at one another and having a decent time, distracting one another and not brooding on Griffith, when neither of them were enjoying the party before that. Yes, it emphasized that they were getting along at that point when she couldn't stand him before.
i'm not talking about the ENTIRE BALLROOM SCENE here i'm talking about the DANCE number.
Guts and Casca are shown warming up to each other in the manga, but never fuckin dancing. It was cute but not faithful at all and could've been taken out because we see their -manga faithful- interactions and that should've been enough. So i think it was completely unneeded.
Except he DID approve of Griffith, and he was a war hero. The king DID like him, it was the other nobles that didn't. There was nothing in the scene, nor did I mention, of him specifically approving of him and Charlotte… but he WAS approving of Griffith.
(Of course, had Griffith waited a while longer, he might have even been legally allowed to have the princess.)
The king always approved and liked Griffith from the very beginning. And again I thought you meant the king approving of him talking to Charlotte in that ballroom scene because you said "It showed" meaning the ballroom scene not the entire manga. The king just stood there and was okay with it without any reaction and that's out of character, because as we find out eventually,.. the king wanted to keep Charlotte all to himself. And actually, it was completely legal for Griffith to marry the 17yr old Charlotte. That just proves my argument even more that the king would've never of let Griffith marry Charlotte. Griffith and the Band of the Hawk were the lone victors of the 100yr old war. The war was over, everyone in midland could live in peace, he dawned the Band of the Hawk with a new name and the highest rank an army could have. Griffith could honestly do nothing more to impress the king and further his plan to marry the princess. But as we see by the time Guts and Griffith have their second duel in the manga, it's at least a month after the ball and Griffith was still no where close to marrying the princess.
Unless by waited a while longer you meant because the king got sick and died?
Except that it WASN'T. It
1)Used the actual ballroom interactions that were in the manga
2)stood in for the parade sequence and established all the exact same things that sequence did.
3)Stood in for the knighting ceremony and established all the exact same things that sequence did.It condensed three canon scenes into one.
So that dance scene where we see everyone spinning around did all that? uhhh whut? I'm talking about the DANCE number again not the entire ballroom scene. Did i ever say the entire ballroom scene was filler? I said the DANCE number was filler.
I watched it LAST NIGHT. They talk about being Griffith's sword three times in the course of 10 minutes. Twice from Caska, once from Guts.
10 minutes? I seen her mention wanting to be Griffith's sword during the cave talk but thats it? And Guts never said anything about being Griffith's sword in the manga, so if he did in the movie, than it's wrong and another negative.
Casca?
All the hawks?
Oh they helped Griffith outside of battle? Please show me in the manga or even in the movies where they helped Griffith further his goals, outside of battle, like i said. They never did.
It's called emphasizing your plot and narrative? That when there's actual movement and motion you can storyboard and displays things in a way that you couldn't necesarrily do in a series of still images? That emphasizing that image helped hide the naughty bits a little?
It's one single panel, and the panel doesn't indicate it swinging back and forth like a pendulum. The beherit was never emphasized in that scene in the manga, why did it need to be emphasized in that scene in the movie? Help hide the naughty bits a little? It was completely put in to stretch out the scene just that much more. Completely unneeded in my opinion.
The scene is even more strongly about Guts and Griffith's goal to be king than ever before.
How?
Do you not understand that things happen between panels? And that not only was the princess clearly completely willing, AND enjoying herself, but she continues to be in love with Griffith for the rest of the manga after that scene, waiting for him, and sacrificing for him?
She's clearly not completely willing. She even says "No, no" as Griffith is pushing her to the bed. The scene in the manga is more of a nervous naive girl submitting to the guy she likes because she wants him to be happy so he likes her back and Griffith didn't care at all about her feelings in that scene in the manga. Where as in the movie it shows her completely wanting it and not being nervous at all really, cause Griffith slowly stops and moves his hand away showing that he cares about her feelings, and Charlotte grabs his hand and moves it back and they start slowly making love with completely pointless scenes like the beherit swinging slowly and Griffith going down on her. It changes how that scene is portrayed AND it was stretched out regardless if she enjoyed it in the manga. That's why it was a negative to me.

@Monkey:
Gutts and Casca didn't do WHAT now?? Are you that illiterate to romance to not see how friggin cute as hell their Ball interactions were in the manga? It was a whole sequence of the manga screaming "THIS IS A HEALTHY NATURAL COUPLE THAT DOES NOT REALIZE HOW PERFECT THEY ARE YET" lol
Of course their ballroom interactions were cute, and they were kept in the movie! Did they need the extra dance? Nope. I'm talking about the dance scene, not the entire ballroom scene.
The manga was showing Charlotte lusting after Griffith in virtually every single scene the two shared existence in. Whaaaaaaat.
Anddddd Griffith was leading her on in every single one as well. Good god man.Lust.. really? It's really just a naive girl liking Mr. Amazing, that's it. And when did i say Griffith wasn't leading her on?

RE: Berserk
@RobbyBevard:
That scene was TWO minutes, not five.
It showed Griffith hitting on the princess.
It showed the Princess wanting Griffith. (that's six characters!)
It showed the King's approval. (seven)
It showed Guts and Caska having a good time together. (nine characters!)
It made use of the setting, outfits and scene they already established, rather than using a separate parade sequence, (the parade sequence that was in the manga) thus combining two scenes. It showcased the aftermath and reward of the war and the new status quo for NINE characters, with extra emphasis on Guts and Caska's growing relationship. I think the original anime used most of an episode to do pretty much the same thing.
Added bonus, background cameo of character that will show up later.
All in all, it was a pretty good use of two minutes. And since it condensed multiple scenes together, I don't know that it can really be considered filler.
Underlined stuff never happened in the manga and were completely out of character. Especially if by king's approval you mean, approving Charlotte talking to Griffith. Because you know he wouldn't allow that, he loved her a little tooo much. The dance number was complete filler. And extra emphasis on Guts and Casca's relationship? The dance was extra emphasis? I would hardly consider that. Though i did think it was cute. Also Farnese and Serpico showing up at the ball was cool,
She did that while they were alone in the woods. And when they were at the ball! And Guts made a point about it. The movie talked about it three separate times, (not even counting when Guts is speechifying about leaving the Hawks). It really didn't need to say it a fourth time.
She did say it in the woods but the movie definitely didn't talk about it for the rest of the time, but it's an adaptation. You're right.
Same way seeing two castle raids gets pretty much the same effect as seeing five castle raids, or murdering two members of the royal family gets across the idea of murdering the entire royal family.
I'm pretty sure him taking in indentured servants and murdering the royal family got that point across.
Indentured servants? Who besides Guts helps Griffith outside of battle further his goals in the movies? And i really think Griffith having sex with a creepy old king shows that he'd do anything more than killing someone in the royal family. Considering him and Guts are battle hardened warriors who've killed hundreds of people. It should be nothing to them.
As for the sex scene… from Griffith appearing at her window, through Charlotte crying for him to him kissing her to being discovered, a quick cutaway to Rickerts, multiple images of Griffith clearly thinking about Guts, and the repeated visual of the behelitt, to Griffith being spied on, to the a end of the sequence, the ENTIRE SCENE start to finish is four minutes, so the actual sex part is... ninety seconds, tops. (And I'm not going to actually time it out because that's stupid) Emphasizing that he's throwing everything away because of Guts leaving. And.. it was a full chapter in the manga.
The sex scene was too long in my opinion, it never even emphasizes on the beherit in the manga, it's just dangling in ONE PANEL, did we need the slow motion swing back and forth? no. There's two panels of Guts in Griffith thoughts in the manga and yet again they stretch it out. The sex scene really is only 8 pages of that episode. And i just think it could've been shortened and still been effective.
If you think it's rape, you clearly miss the parts where Charlotte kissed him, and guides his hand back to her breast when he pulls away, and is totally in love with him and cool with it.
Do you not understand the word ALMOST? Charlotte never kisses him back, she never guides his hand, Griffith never pulls away.. that NEVER happened in the manga. And that's what turned it into a love scene instead of it being just a really forced sex scene.
My complaints aren't just with the sex scene in movie 2. There's other scenes i could complain about, but why are we still discussing this? You enjoyed it, i didn't. Were all Berserk fans. Let's just hope episode 334 is in the July 12 issue of YA, cause man has it been a long time.

Wait, so we haven't reached the 3rd and final Golden Age film yet, the one with that Eclipse?
It's out and subbed.
