@Augury:
It seems like you're using the term "nakama" to signify when someone becomes a permenant crew member. This is definitely not how Luffy (well, Oda) sees things. "Nakama" can be translated to "friend," "comrade," or "companion," but Luffy tends to accept and help people far earlier than normal people would. Luffy had already accepted Nami as a nakama when he decided she would become his navigator. He accepted Vivi on Whiskey Peak, and he accepted Chopper before the last confrontation with Wapol's men.
I told you exactly what I meant with "nakama". Its simply the word I chose
to describe the unbreakable and very specific relationship between Luffy and
each of his crew.
And I did that because smurfx used Nami, Chopper, Vivi and Franky all in one argument,
and I wanted to point out that Vivi can't be compared to Nami, Chopper and Franky,
since her relationship with Luffy is essentialy different compared to the other SHs.
(Now comes a new argument!)
And I also said, that we don't possibly know how Oda/Luffy understands the word nakama,
or if it has always the same specific meaning to him/him.
P.S. Luffy didn't accept Vivi in Whiskey Peak as new nakama, he just
promised to help her, just as he did with Pell and Noland and Pauley and …
EDIT
@Augury:
After rereading your post a few times and the post that you quoted, I think you mean to say something along the lines of "Luffy is not Nami's nakama until such and such", or "Vivi/Chopper does not consider Luffy as a nakama until such and such," etc. If this is what you meant, it's pretty harsh towards their characters (and I disagree :P).
What i meant is that Luffy first had to earn their ultimate trust, for
them to lay their dreams into Luffys hands and follow him into the depths of hell.
Of course nobody asked for that, but Nami could never have followed Luffy with Arlong around.
