Well… I'm excited for the rest. Very impressed with the visual effects too.
And I keep looking at the Slakoth sprite, but I still don't see it. It's gonna bug me until I do though.
-
Seems like each year, the effects get better & the story gets bigger. Really impressed so far, especially since this part is just setting stuff up for when everyone eventually comes together.

Holy fuck that was good. This special, thus far, seems a lot more cinematic and plot-heavy than previous anniversaries, while still having the same Nostalgia Critic/Channel Awesome humor.
Can't wait for part 2!
-
Woah, 40 minutes just for part 1?
Yeah, better watch this daily instead of all at once.
I do like that it starts by taking the Star Trek parody from the end of the last special to its next logical step.
And hey, actual names for all the people! I realize that basically all their names are public and easy to get knowledge by now, but, kinda weird all the same.
EDIT: …aaand the popup ads in the middle completely fucked up and froze my player. LAME.
-
Will this truly be the last nostalgia critic story-review?
@Robby: Don't you have adblock or some other popup blocker? Do you use Firefox?
-
@Robby: Don't you have adblock or some other popup blocker? Do you use Firefox?
Nah, I usually don't mind the ads and prefer to throw the extra count their way so they can make money.
However, SOME ads (nod all of them) fuck things up for some reason. Just some random ad every two weeks or so, I never know why. I just loads off timed with the ad timer or something and screws it up.
Managed to get the vid to load properly later. good start, though the direct lifting of Star Trek 3 went from being cute, to kind of annoying eventually.
It's weird seeing so much Spoony in this, and knowing its going to turn out to be his sendoff from the show, considering his leaving was after the filming of this. I may need to rewatch Battleship Earth review later though.
-
@RobbyBevard:
And hey, actual names for all the people! I realize that basically all their names are public and easy to get knowledge by now, but, kinda weird all the same.
I'm pretty sure they used their actual names during the Suburban Knights credits as well.
–----
Anyway, what a fantastic start to the special! I was actually on the edge of my seat there at the end.
Looking forward to part 2.Though, I thought they had said this one was supposed to be shorter than SK?
-
@Nex:
Though, I thought they had said this one was supposed to be shorter than SK?
It may have ended up longer in the editing.
Or the opening first part might just be extra long to get most of the setup out of the way, the other segments might only be 10 or 15 minutes.
-
It started pretty slow, but by the end I found that I was really getting into it. My only concern is how they're gonna tie all the villains and characters together without it being a clusterfuck. But maybe Last angry geek will think of something after his intensive plot studies.
-
Huh, suddenly my browser is unable to play new vids from the TGWTG/cinemasnob sites themselves, but they work fine on blip. Anyone knows what gives?
Also, Linkaras latest is worth checking out. Been a while since he could wear the good old Feminist hat, but hoo boy, this one is a doozy. Just watch it to see what became of, ahem, "Alfred" in this Catwoman universe.

They just updated the player in some way (you can tell because the menu display on it before and after videos is different now). Because its newer, its now LESS compatible with the world than it used to be. Which kinda sucks.
While on Blip proper its still the older player… for now.

I always wonder why people update to newer players at all. All it does it create problems with compatibility, glitches and decreasing the total amount of people who can actualy see your video.

Brilliant first part. The anniversaries evolve every year. This actually feels like a real fucking movie you'd pay for in a theater!

Info about the schedule by Rob Walker himself
TO BOLDLY FLEE RELEASE SCHEDULE –
Hey guys, just to fill you in, we're looking for a release schedule of every three days. This means that Part II will be out on Sunday, Part III next Wednesday... etc...
There's two reasons for this. One -- we don't want people to get burnout or have the series overshadow everyone else's reviews on the site for 8 days. This is, more or less, a mini-series, and should probably be viewed and released as such. Two -- due to catastrophic technical difficulties, exporting the project did not go as well as planned. Blame programmers, I guess. This means that some of the polishing has been delayed due to the troubles trying to fix that. We'd rather release this thing as sharp and streamlined as possible, and buffering in some extra days will help.
Barring any other difficulties exporting, there should be no deviating from this schedule (in fact, Part II is locked and loaded). If we can get future parts out earlier, we will. And we'll let you know if that happens. But don't expect it... we can only try our best.
Thanks again for watching!
Given how packed these episodes are, I think that's a good release schedule. Feels like a small mini-series.

8 Days, does that imply that the movie was broken up into 8 parts?

I believe so. At least, that's how many parts I heard the series had.

wow. this is so awesome. i loved every minute of it. and we still have 7 more to go. this is so exciting. i wish it were a regular show. ^^

She's on twitter if you want to keep up with her.
https://twitter.com/Nellachronism
I assume she's just been busy with other stuff, she was never really a full timer on the site who wanted to make videos, she just sort of ended up cameo-ing in Lindsay's videos a lot.
-
So I'm not about to read this whole thread, but you've all heard about Red Letter Media and the Plinkett reviews, right?

No, somehow the epic Star Wars reviews have thus far gone unnoticed.

On the Scooby Doo Movie: anyone ever noted how the begining, setup, setting and resolution are realy similar to Monster Island except for the whole being good part ? It begins with the resolution of another case, the gang splits up for no good reason, Shaggy and Scooby are the only ones who stay together, they get together on the whim of the mysterious owner of an island asking them to investigate something supernatural, which in the ends actualy turns out to be real and the person who invited them was behind it the whole time.
And Velma has a random thing for some guy in the end.
-
Zombie Island also had the benefit of that awesome song number.
-
Omg, the people who have never seen them should do so immediately. They are freaking hilarious and informative.

The actual red letter media site is a better home for the vids than youtube. Not broken into as many sections, higher quality, and the traffic gets the creators paid.

That was pretty fun. The homages/pastiches are going perhaps a little overlong, but its all good.
And man, if it weren't for the fact that Spoony's brekadown and leaving the stie weren't planned, it seems like this would totally have been a perfect planned farewell series for him. He's just all over the place in this miniseries!

I have honestly no idea what that even was. A review? Hell no. I don't even… I've never quite "got" Nostalgia Chick once she painfully and obviously dropped the actual being a Nostalgic Chick but this was just... like worse than a v-log in how little it actually said or did of anything. I know sometimes it's hard for then to actually review the movie when it pisses them off to a certain degree(See film brain and top cat) but jesus...
Honestly as someone mentioned before Lindsay should just drop the Nostalgia Chick title and just Be Lindsay. She already has a dedicated fanbase i'm sure. The title needs to go to someone who is actually going to do the job. The Nostalgia Chick was ALWAYS a cheap exploitative move. As Lindsay says in this very video, fuck it, just go all the way with it and have her be a blonde brainless tart who reviews rainbow bright. At least then we would know how to judge her work and know where she is coming from.

Touchy, aren't we? Yes, fine, I shouldn't have used the word "all," but the point still stands. I just liked how they inserted "certain" reviewers who couldn't make it into the special. I didn't mean any offense by it.
And hey, there are still six parts left. There may yet still be cameos from reviewers who haven't appeared yet.
Anywho, here's another Classic Who review from Nash, in which he reviews the Seventh Doctor adventure Delta and the Bannermen.

Nostalgia Chick is made up of two words, nostalgia and chick. Her videos are exactly that. The movies and shows she talks about a rooted in the realms of nostalgia, Charlies Angels was a reboot movie adaption of a 70's tv shows. The second half is Chick, which she talks about the videos and how she feels about the movie and how it treats her gender. She's using the name perfectly fine. Also, feminism isn't a hard a concept to follow. And out of all internet producers who touch the subject, Lindsey's is the most approachable in terms of how she apresents it.
The character Nostalgia Chick has evolved over time, and I can respect that you didn't like the path she has taken, but there's no reason to take away her name. That's just silly.

So you would prefer she did lots of angry over the top shouting Daffy Duck style the same way Doug and Angry Video Game Nerd do, as opposed to thoughtful insightful analysis?
Yeah, she doesn't pack in a joke every 3 seconds, and her style has evolved to be very different from how it started, but that doesn't mean its bad.

No I wouldn't prefer her do that if that's not what she wants to do. However I would like to see a female reviewer cover nostalgic female oriented movies in the same style that doug does. Have a set schedule (even if it has to be one 1 video every 2 months) have some running gags, and tell a few jokes every now and then. I completely understand that Lindsay evolved her material and style to fit a need that existed but I just feel like there is still a market for a female nostalgia critic. And I never said her style was bad but as a stand alone review yes this was bad. At least in my opinion.

I'd say the closest we are to that is Obscurus Lupa, even though she mostly focuses on martial arts movies. I still don't think that the title of ''Nostalgia ****'' means they have to have a particular style. Lindsey does review "nostalgic" things, she just does it in her own style.

Lindsay isn't having a good time at the moment.
She's already stated that she wasn't the biggest fan of having to wear the skin tight costume for To Boldy Flee, but after the past two videos, people have been hitting on her non-stop for 'having so much cleavage' and 'totally dressing like a babe'. Which if you've seen the outfit… Pretty fucking basic outfit. So she's feeling really uncomfortable about that, thus leading to the joke about wearing a burqa/niqab. And then she has her feminism being over jokes... And then the shit hit the fan.
First, we have the religious over-bearing viewers who are mad at her for being so insensitive as to wear something that women are forced to wear... Because you know, there isn't an entire, large collection of women who do wear these gowns in order to hide their appearance so that men would judge them by who they are and not their appearance or anything (hint: there is). At the same time, I have a feeling that half of these people bitching about this don't even know anyone who wear these for any reason.
But then we have the fun attacks against her feminism, and this bugs the shit out of me. Like, she's getting comments of "women have been equal right already" or "feminism is useless". While I do support feminist views, I don't have enough experience or intelligence to possibly change anyone's mind on that subject. However, I don't understand why people are attacking Lindsay over this sort of thing. Yes, she's been open about her feminism and her views, but she's always been one of the most approachable Internet reviewers/talents about this sort of thing.
She's not here to attack you. She doesn't review movies like Charlies Angels, Showgirls, or What Women Want, and then turn around and say, "If you like these movies, then you're a rapist!" Like no... Hell, no one does, but my point is, she's generally pretty open about these discussions and doesn't slam anyone for liking these things. She might question why people do, but she won't attack them. I mean, not only has she openly said that she enjoys watching Showgirls, she freaking listens to Ke$ha... ON PURPOSE! She's pretty comfortable with enjoying the media, even though there are things she doesn't like (and she has reason not to like them).
She doesn't shove anything down our throats, and I'm not saying that all feminists do, but the way people are attacking her, they sure as hell are acting like she is.
No I wouldn't prefer her do that if that's not what she wants to do. However I would like to see a female reviewer cover nostalgic female oriented movies in the same style that doug does. Because nostalgic female items are rare and boring. Why should a female reviewer, or a reviewer in general, exclude herself to female specific nostalgia? Do you know how fractionally small and pointless that is? She wouldn't last long at all. Her most unpopular videos have actually been about those shows and items. Her last one, the baby doll episode, didn't make a lot of money and didn't have many people interested.
Lindsay far too intelligent and talented (and I know you don't think so) for that, and even if someone did tackle and focus on that subject, they wouldn't last long. If the person were to be a feminist watching these nostalgic female shows, she'd be attacked. If she loving and bouncy about them, people would think she was dumb. And even if she did straight up reviews, people would hate her because they'd consider her a Nostalgia Critic knock off.
And that's what I like about Lindsay. She isn't a Nostalgia Critic knock off. She has her own style, her own humor.

Yeah Obscurus lupa is awesome and even though i don't care for most of the movies she reviews I watch em for her jokes. She's way funnier than both of those guys if you ask me, it's super dry humor, but that's my preference in the first place. Doug and the Nerd do the Daffy thing decently, but most people who do that are annoying obnoxious unfunny horrors who people like Phenomonyl like better because it's easier for them to digest, like baby food if you will.

Lindsay for the most part is a pretty normal feminist? People getting mad at her are naive little babies who are uncomfortable when any demographic talk comes up, like that Hinscher guy. She is not a radical, unreasonable, or anything even remotely like that by any stretch of the imagination. She lashes out at radical stupid shit too (I love when she did the jerk off motion in response to people who say that Indian musical movie she liked was "IMPERIALIST"). Yes I disagree with her sometimes. She's too hard on Little Mermaid and Pocohontas, but fuck, I don't really care?
I have extensive experience with radical feminism thanks to Gaia (shudder), I know the real deal. To even put her anywhere near them is….it's a fucking laugh riot. It's high time they start disprespecting their horrible fanbases. The sooner they do that the sooner they can sleep better at night knowing there's no big deal about making stupid immature college age nerds mad.
Barring Todd she's the best they got on there.

What Women Want is a steaming pile of rancid shit, were there really people getting on her case about THAT??
I don't care enough to continue this conversation any longer. I didn't like the review, I stated why, you made your arguments i heard them, it's done. But i'll just say quickly, I understand most of what ur saying i just disagree. Read my post again carefully and I think you'll understand.

Yeah Obscurus lupa is awesome and even though i don't care for most of the movies she reviews I watch em for her jokes. I think Nostalgia critic is a "Brand" name seeing how popular he has become, that's why people including myself think if you use the name you're expected to act a certain way. Anyway I digress
Shut up Phenomonyl.
