It would be nice if we're building towards Chopper doing something respectable. He's still AWOL, right?
Chapter 678: "Laboratory building A Lobby"

I wonder if it's just me that blocks the overly negative people. I'll see them make a post about how bad the chapter is, then I look at their post history to be fair about it at least. Then I find out the only posts they ever make are where they only comment when a chapter is bad and highlight how bad it is, with no explanations, either. Talk about empty contribution. I've never blocked so fast lol.
Actually, to be more precise, I block the selectively negative people. The people that are like excessive athletic coaches that when you do something great are like, "Yeah ok whatever," but when you make the slightest mistake, "You are a piece of scum! Go take a shower and let me watch!"
The lack of action has once again driven battle-hungry fans mad.
-
I liked the chapter!
Zoro acting like first mate, awesome!
-
Nice, Jinbei has tied up Caribou…..
This chapter was more of a set-up chapter, nothing phenomenal, but it was the little things that I liked. Zoro scolding Luffy to be careful (first mate, baby), Smoker wanting to take down Virgo, and Luffy's UFO move!
Also good to see Nami and Sanji back in their bodies (poor Sanji, getting punched like that)
Really liked the three-way split page with Luffy, Kinemon, and Smoker, too.
-
It was a good chapter, but not as good as the last one.
But I don't complain, because everyone is ready to make some mess! :)+1, Completely agree!
ETA: where are Franky and Chopper? …suspense...
-
Is it only me or I see a lot of similarity in art of Smoker and Crocodile.
-
Am I the only one around here think that..
Zoro is COOOOOLER than usual this Chapter???
-
I loled at the Carribean New World.
Right. How could that NOT be on purpose?
It's just startling to imagine that they're whipping their starved, shackled, and sleep-deprived translator with such intensity that he would start reading 「カリ…」and say "aw fuck it. I don't have time to read the third letter. I'll get the hose again if I'm 5 seconds over the deadline. The first word starting with "kari" spelled with katakana in my denshi jisho is Carribean, so let's go with that."Sorry... I think I'm getting worked up because it's a mockery of translation in general and an insult to One Piece.
On-topic: Well-paced and necessary transition chapter. The stand-out line to me was when Luffy said that his strategy is literally not going to change at all. A far-cry from him coming well-prepared (though still not enough...) for Croc Round 2. So either he'll stick to his word somehow finish Caesar quickly enough for a lack of oxygen not to matter, or, more likely imo, someone/something will intervene/help. I'm a fan of the "Law takes out Luffy's lungs and puts them in a different room" idea that someone posted last week.
-
One question though to Oda sensei, what is the point of having so many panels showing smoke outside ? I don't get it.
-
Anyone think Jinbe is off to Big Mom's place? I doubt he'd use a coating just to throw Caribou off the Island.
-
This chapter has charged me up lol Gomu Gomu Ufooooooo (another reason why Luffy should be Law in the tourny)

This happens when what counts is relationships rather than skills. Oh I'm good at lying to everyone saying I'm "the" one piece translator !! If I am then obviously I'm the best, right, right ??

Probably has been mentioned many times after Vergo was introduced.. but what if Smoker loses and Vergo escapes? Vergo being higher in marine ranks can probably frame Smoker pretty easily. Being on island that is forbidden to enter and allying with well known pirates alone are pretty heavy charges and that world wide broadcast is not helping. Will this force Smoker to desert? Joining some pirate crew, creating his own since he already has loyal crew, joining Dragon or go and hide in whatever hole Aokiji is at the moment. Just speculating since I don't really belive that Smoker will lose with Law and strawhats around.
-
Anyone think Jinbe is off to Big Mom's place? I doubt he'd use a coating just to throw Caribou off the Island.
I think so as well, but I doubt that the whole cover story will be about Jinbe. I'm betting on Caribou returning to the one he tries to impress (please let it be Moriah!)
-
One question though to Oda sensei, what is the point of having so many panels showing smoke outside ? I don't get it.
I assume to show the devastation the weapon caused.
I'm okay with no action at this point. We are going to get it and the build-up to it is a essential part. I feel like Smoker and Luffy have something to prove/on line after this chapter and that always makes fights better to me.
Also, lol at the scanlation. So many typos, looking forward to Mangastream's.
-
UFO looks like Sanjis attack. I am deeply dissapointed.
-
One question though to Oda sensei, what is the point of having so many panels showing smoke outside ? I don't get it.
Probably to show the scope of the smoke?
-
@dwo:

LOL what? i doubt Sanji would use it like that xD
-
I liked how Zoro gulped when they said that he gas would have killed everyone and then said: Okay. XD Hilarious.
-
In my honest opinion ,Oda was using Kinemon in an epic tease to test how he'd look as a Strawhat.
Numerous panels he's either making epic faces, or looking so content with teaming up with the crew.and he sure wasn't in a rush to correct the G-5 guys when they included him among Luffy's crew…:ninja:
-
I like Kinemon but I seriously can't see the crew get a third swordsman.
And hey, he's got a kid. -
I have a quetion, where is Coribou? Caribou stated that his brother and his crew survived Surume's attack?
-
I like Kinemon but I seriously can't see the crew get a third swordsman.
And hey, he's got a kid.So did Yassop. 16 characters.
He and Zoro were on display quite abit in this chapter as well…Oda is testing how the crew would look with multiple swordsmen......i'd like to think xD
-
don't know where coribou is, but I don't get how he and his crew could have survived. Weren't they already a few thousand meters deep?
-
An ok chapter, though, in my opinion, the weakest chapter of the arc.
-
I have a feeling that Kinemon will have to end up fighting his son who has been turned into some giant/monster child slave thing who was experimented on by Caesar.
-
I thought the same about Kinemon and his epic poses. Of course, Oda did the same with Jinbe last arc, and it's still not clear how exactly that situation will play out.
-
Well Luffy and CC is a given… The SHs can't go outside and inside no one is left... Just Monet, who we don't know what role she has.
Law is doing some plan... My only last prediction is
Zoro and Sanji vs Cool brothers... I doubt they stayed outside and are inside the lab as well.
Even if they look as fodder cuz Law backstabbed them, they are the only ones left.
BTW
What will happen with the DF which was created after Smileys explosion... What role will it play now? Did CC already took it inside the lab?If not, who can obtain it if no one can leave the Lab from now on?
-

Heh, well I'm not ruling it out yet. When it comes to personality he certainly fits.

Exactly my thoughts down to the letter.
-
Just read the chapter.
Jinbe is taking Caribou somewhere, potentially the New World hence the mini-arc's name.
Buncha stuff.
Momonosuke is either gonna be interesting or really silly.
Luffy's Gum Gum UFO looked significantly less stupid than I was expecting, that was actually a neat and creative move.
And the Cool Brothers are out, get over it.
-
@steven:

Pell survived a nuclear like bomb…
-

Yeah, because Oda introduces characters all the time, just so that they're out 2 chapters later. :X
-
Pell survived a nuclear like bomb…
Yea, that's true, but these guys were much less relevant to the story. And even in one piece conditions, how could anyone survive being crushed by the pressure and not being able to breathe for the time ascending to the surface? And we could assume they don't all have superhuman abilities, probably not even one.
-

Fodder Conis father survided a lightning bolt to his skull… And he ahd no role... Same as Pell ahd no role after Arabasta
-
This was a good chapter, even though I'm not that fond of pages with no dialogue. But they were necessary, I guess.
A few things on my mind:
-
Every chapter that goes by, Kinemon looks cooler. Too bad the crew doesn't need another swordsman;
-
Didn't really like the match ups that much. I would have preferred to see Luffy vs Vergo and Zoro + Sanji vs Caeser;
-
I have a feeling that Smoker will lose against Vergo, which is really bad… Until this point Smoker was a totally badass character, and now there's a chance we will see him lose twice in the same arc... Not cool. Vergo must be stronger than Smoker, as he is the head of the G-5. Well, I hope that he can at least put up a good fight and hold Vergo until some help arrives (possibly from Law, but can be anyone else, including Monet).

they survived and they already are at fishman island. -
Nice and fun read.
-Jinbei on the move, wonder if going see more cover story for him.
-Nice to see Brook using ghost mode for recon purposes.
-Kinemon look some who fits the straw hats(no im not saying he will join,he is temporay ally),he had some good looking faces.
-Zoro comedic moment was good also he serious bit too.
-That Smoker moment was nice i hope he is able to uphold his justice.
-Luffy Ufo hahahhaha awesome -
I absolutely LOVED this chapter. Maybe it's because I've been starving for more One Piece lately, but I think it's because it's a get-together-chapter. Finally everyone (except Franky) is in the same place.
- This cover-story didn't look like it was gonna be all that good when it started, but it's already hilarious. Jinbe's packed a backpack and is heading for the New World. When Jinbe was asked if he wanted to join the crew, he said he had something to take care of. Could this be it? I'm thinking taking away Caribou from Fishman Island isn't his main objective with the trip.
- I felt the first half of the chapter was quite good, it was interesting to see what happened outside the facility, makes you wonder if Franky'll be okay, and what he'll do about the Sunny. But then we get inside the facility, and the chapter gets AMAZING.
- Great to see Brook's soul again, and him putting it to good use. G5 reactions are great.
- Zoro gulping and saying OK was great, all in all this was a nice Zoro-chapter.
- Vegapunk's pet dragon growling could indicate that the Strawhats have won it over on their side.
- Brownbeard getting some recognition is so good to see, I've really started to like this guy. The face he makes in the they-know-my-name-panel is quite cute.
- Kinemon got some DON-moments in this chapter, I've got a bad feeling about Momonosuke's situation though =(
- Sanji and Nami switcheroo was great, and Sanji got a badass moment when Usopp was proud of him.
- I like Law putting a time-limit on the rest of this arc, we now know that it's gonna go quick. Like he said before!
- The three-divided panel was epic, Smoker's determination was admirable and, Zoro's "The New World starts here" brought tears of joy to my eyes and Luffy's new attack looked great and playful. I wonder though, did he fly for a short while there? It'd make sense considering the name of the attack.
Cannot wait for next chapter. It's just getting better and better. Transition-chapter? No such thing, so much happened here despite the several pages of the outside effects

I don't think that Vergo being the head of G-5 necessarily means that he's stronger than Smoker. He may simply have seniority over him, having been stationed at G-5 longer. They both hold the same rank, so it's more likely that they're evenly leveled than anything else. This is Oda's first chance to show off Smoker being something other than a well-meaning antagonist and I doubt he'll make him unable to handle one of the two boss fights of this island.

What happen between Zoro and Tashigi??.. not a single panel about them..
I wanna see Zoro's rection!! -
Yeah, because Oda introduces characters all the time, just so that they're out 2 chapters later. :X
That group in Alabasta that drank that stuff that killed them, T-Bone(god bless his soul), Wanze, Jerry, Baskerville, Yama and some of the Priests, Miss Monday and Mr. 9, the 7 pair, Igaram would count if he didn't randomly come back. There are a lot of characters that served little to no purpose in the plot and get defeated very easily. Maybe not always in 2 chapters, but they may make few appearances during their time in the story. Not to mention that the Straw Hats have curbstomped literally every enemy since the timeskip sans Caesar, which only makes it easier to believe the Cool Brothers are done. I would love for them to get more time in the spotlight, but I just don't see it happening.
-

D'ah, you've got me again. you, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Go into my stables, you can have my finest steed. His name is Wingjammer.
Don't really like that in oda's storytelling, almost never killing off any named character (except ace and whitebeard), even if they aren't even slightly important. but the rest is mostly awesome.
-
Completely agreed with everything you said. Pretty much my own views with the chapter itself.
-
What happen between Zoro and Tashigi??.. not a single panel about them..
I wanna see Zoro's rection!!Honestly, she looks so completely different from Kuina now that I wouldn't be surprised if Zoro didn't even recognize her anymore…
-

Yeah, but these characters at least had a real purpose to be there. I don't really see a point in the introduction of Rock and Scotch yet and there are some questions regarding them left.
-

I wanna see Zoro's rection!!They didn't see each other. Zoro's on the ground floor or something and Tashigi's on the mezzanine.
