This happened a while ago but I just remembered it and realized that even on episode 257 we have yet to discover exactly who that guy was at Loguetown that saved Luffy from Buggy and Smoker etc. with his technique to control the weather. I was thinking maybe he's following the Mugiwara pirates and may show up at Enies Lobby or somewhere in the future. Anyone have any clue as to who he is?
Loguetown
-
-
His name is Dragon, but there isnt much known about him.
-
It's known that he is a rebel from Louge Town and that he will or is a huge problem for the WG. He is already wanted by WG but the bounty is not known. He is also a member conected to the Will Of D.
-
I personally think it`s Gold Roger.
A guy that powerful couldn`t let himself pass like that. He must have somehow created the illusion of his death since it seems he has skills of Dark Powers. I think he fought Smoker so Luffy could escape alive, because Dragon would want the "D" legend to continue.
Heck, there is even a chance that the "D" in Gold "D" Roger stood for "Dragon" but pay no mind. It
s just my little bullcrap theory that I
m sticking with until dragon is explained. -

Whoa, whoa, whoa, that´s completely wrong. All we know about him is that he is a dangerous revolutionist who goes by the name of Dragon and he´s a big thorn in the eye of the World Government. That´s about it.
It was never said that he is from Loguetown as much as it was never said that he is anyhow connected to the D´s.
Furthermore there is no such a thing as a membership of the Will of D.
-
Funny, the only dub change I like is how they changed Lougetown to Rouguetown.
I like it with an R.
-
But if it was R, then it would be Roguetown(rogue as in a mischievous person). It was unthoughtful that Rogue was pronounced like Logue with the R replaced when it was spelled like that. See what I mean? Sorry for bursting your bubble, Roronoa Tom.
To me, there was no reason for that name change.
Correct Pronounciation-
Rogue- /roog/Wrong Pronounciation-
Dub-rogue- /wrogh
To me, it's sort of hard to explain when you're online. If this still confuses you, PM me, and I'll find another way to clear this up.
Back on Topic
I also have a feeling that Dragon is Gold Roger in disguise. He probably faked his own death and set this whole thing up, so people would think he's no longer alive. Maybe even Loguetown is keeping a secret from the visitors about the possible fake execution. :hm: Maybe I'm thinking too much.
-
But think of "prologue" and "epi**logue{/b]" as beginning and end, and it fits…
Edit: And didn't the manga show Roger getting decapitated, if you look closely? >.>**
-
Yeah isn't it Ero Dragon or something like that? and he's the world's most wanted man. I wonder if Luffy will have to fight him for One Piece
-
I personally think Dragon is actually Gol D. Roger. I think Gol D. Roger did a Kuro and replaced one of his men with himself. Maybe Dragon is actually D. Ragon, Ragon to me sounds like Roger switched around a bit. But that's just me and my crackpot theories.
-
I thought it might be Gold Roger too but… no offence to anyone who's said that I just think that'd be really lame and predictable.
BUT... if this theory about (spoiler from episode 228 or somewhere in there)
! Gold Roger being Luffy's grandfather is true that would explain why Dragon saved him.
-

If Gol D. Roger did a Kuro, it would make him no more noble than him. It would say he didn't value his nakama, and also that he didn't have the stones to stand judgement for his acts.

You do realize I basically said the EXACT same thing, right?
-

Right; most likely, that's what Oda meant, and "Rogue" is simply a translation coincidence. It's like the "berry" and "belly" issue.
…
Hence, Viz/4Kids is full of crack.
-

My god, this is brilliant! I never thought of that. Thanks a bunch for this new food for thought you just gave me.
-
Gol D. Roger and Dragon don't share similar face paterns so I do see how they can be the same person, also the skin color is diferent
And there's no way that the guy that conquered all would pull a Kuro, (the man that conquers all stand tall and proud even when dying) so I personally think Gol D. Roger offered himself was a sacrifice to begin the process (that Luffy and Strawhats are going to end) of freeing people from the W.G.
And nice thinking Strange_One, I think you might be right about that
-
The more I think about Strange One´s post the more I love it and the more I´m convinced that this is what Oda meant. After all, Loguetown is the town of the begining and the end. So prologues and epilogues would have something to do with what the town stands for whereas I´ve always had to see how exactly the town represents rogue´s. I mean it was never been established as a town full of rogues anyway.
I think Malintex is right, the rogue thing is just a coincidence but it´s not what Oda meant.
-
Is it proved that he can control the weather? And I mean besides that funny coloured wind…
And I also think that the Roger=Dragon theory is absurd, that would destroy the legend of that man :P
-
Let me clear this up, Dragon and Gol D. Roger are in no way the same person.
As for Dragon being part of the D Clan, that has yet to be revealed, but is very probable.
All we know about Dragon now is that he is a revolutionary wanted by the World Government.
I actually have a theory that he's a descendant of the people of that kingdom that the World Government destroyed during the Lost 100 Years and wants to expose their corruption and bring them down.

The incident that Robin survived? I forget what it's called.

Topic revival!
Ok, is there any official explanation on the lightning that saved Luffy in Loguetown?
Somebody elsewhere was telling me it's Enel, which I think is an odd theory. Some say Dragon did it, but I don't see the proof of that (unless I'm missing something).
I always thought the lightning striking was just fate, luck, etc.
-
It can't be luck for sure but u can't tell it's Dragon's work either. Since the weather isn't that screwed on OP like it's our world, there is no way for the weather to change that suddenly to strike some lightning and drop a bit of rain and then dissapear. Since we don't know Dragon's abilities, we can assume that he somehow may control the weather etc.. since we saw that strong wind afterwards. We cannot be sure for anything but we can always make assumptions

You know it's funny, when you read the first post now and you think "lol, what a retard" and then you realise it was made three years ago and at present we are actually aware of what happened. Hehe.

Its supposed to be Lougetown though as thats how Oda has spelled it on numerous occasions.

Yeah, although the 'Dragon is Gol D. Roger' theory was dumb even back then.
-

We know about the Dragon character yes, but the lightning is still unexplained.
-
@Psycho_Kenshin:

There was quite stormy… and storm brings sometimes thunders... lol then it turns to thunderstorm---anyway. So thunderstorm + high place + metallic object = BOOM fried Buggy-clown. Gomu Gomu no man gets out unharmed. Its normal that thunderstorm got lighting strieks ya know, no magic. Or the all is Dragons doing, who knows.
-
It's just to show Luffy's really dumb luck. What are the chances of being struck by lightning, while the sky isn't that dark(well yet), and while being made out of rubber.
"Do you believe in God?"
XD

That is the magic of One Piece, to re-read it and know that it was all conected from scratch.
I'm waiting big things from Gaimon
-
That's the magic of every long series.. not only one piece's. You can see things connecting to naruto as well, though you can't see lots of things connecting on bleach.
-
When I first started watching the anime, Morgan's comments about a DF user who could control tsunamis stuck in my head. I convinced myself that Dragon was that man when I first saw him in the anime. Since then, I've never been able to convince myself otherwise. The people in charge of the anime must think it's true at least.
-
HOLY OLD THREAD BAT MAN anyway i belive dragon has a storm fruit that allows him to conjur storms and such
-
Somebody clearly doesn't understand how Devil Fruits work. I'll skip Zoans because they're the most obvious and irrelevent to this subject.
Logia Fruits allow the user to control an element of nature, and even become it themselves. It is a popular theory that Dragon ate the Wind Wind Fruit, which would both explain the way he disappeared after saving Luffy and allow him to move the storm cloud into possition.
Paramecia Fruits permanently alter the body, sometimes so that the user produces a substance in a fasion that can be mistaken for a Logia power. Nowhere in either of these descriptions does a Devil Fruit flat-out grant the power of a god. Even Enel, with the power of lightning, needed Maxim to spread the stormclouds.
Which brings me to another statement of idiocy amoungst our fanbase: Enel didn't have a damn thing to do with the events at Loguetown. What would his motivation be? If he did strike Buggy, wouldn't it come up when the one he saved KICKED HIS ASS? Not to mention Skypia's probable tendancy to not leave the Grand Line.
