Great idea.
Next thing you know we'd all be reading fucking comic books with 3D glasses and pages would pop out and shoot animated laser beams at your face.
I think the world could do with more pop-up book manga.

Well that would be bad! Still, I would like to see manga experiment with the panel thingy.
I'd like to stop seeing the bland, indecisive, undecided and/or annoying characters that keep on showing up in these mangas/animes.
They sold out. Money now means more than storytelling.
They stories they have in the hlast ten years don't hold a candle to the stories of the 60-70-80s. THe 90s weren't so bad but not same quality of the previous years, they had a consistancy to the stories back then. Now days its game to change a character's history 2-3-10 times if it sells big books. Stan Lee & Jack Kirby could sell a book without having to change a character's backstory every 5-10 years. (or sooner)
That change a character's history a bunch of times sounds more like DC than Marvel. I've dropped just about everything DC after the New 52 except the occasional Batman titles.
@Sniper:
Guys, there are still good stories. Besides, One More Day (the whole Mephisto, marriage thing) was in 2007. There have been good comics since then.
I think Slott is doing good with Spidey, and Wolverine & the X-Men is good.
Brubaker is also pretty awesome.
Yeah, Marvel still has lots of amazing writers/artists and great titles like Scarlet Spider, Winter Soldier, Punisher, Daredevil, some of the X-books, etc. Of course you'll still have your DC fanboy hating or DC/Marvel haters that hate the big two and will complain about everything they do before reading it so for Marvel they'll hate on the constant crossover event after event, Spidey and Wolverine in everything, and the good guys fighting each other instead of villains (granted it has been shown that Marvel is selling more when they do events and they still have quite the lead over DC and want to keep it so they'll keep doing what sells).
I was just pointing out all of that horrible shit cuz well it fit with the topic of this thread lol.
@Cyclone_Baroness:
Black characters being completely ridiculous and or a stereotype…
I've long given up on black characters showing up let alone not being a stereotype or drawn extremely offensive in some way in most manga anymore, especially the ones geared towards children. At this point I'd probably if they went back to black ppl not existing.
I hate when a completely evil guy in a manga turns into a bad guy after losing in a fight.
OMG i got defeated, lolz i'll just be a good guy and everything is fine.
At best she'll have a page or two showing regret about what they have done.
I am looking at you URTEAR!
I hate fanservice. I don't really read Kenichi or Fairy Tail that often, but whenever I do, all I see is huge round asses and cleavages everywhere.

Kenichi is fun…
staying on point, I can't stand the way every single effing mystery thing in manga right now is SOMEHOW related to the moon. I'm fine with the moon being the centre of 2-3 manga mysteries, but it's too much when Naruto, Medaka, Soul Eater AND Magico all make the big twist "It's on the moon". It irks me.

!
But in all seriousness, I don't like it when a stories pacing is halted in order to incorperate fight scenes. I understand that this is directly due to shonen traditions and an easy way to create suspense in a weekly/monthly serial, but really series' like One Piece and Hunter X Hunter can last volumes without fights and that's when they're at their best. A story doesn't need match-ups every second chapter if the drama, politics and character of the world are well crafted enough to hold it's own.
A smaller gripe I have would be when protagonists instantly fast travel to different locations like it is nothing. I had this problem with Soul Eater where characters can just warp to psuedo-London or what have you. It eliminates the sense of adventure, makes the world feel small instead of it's own entity and to an extent disorientates as the locals are just backdrops for more fights.

I said "fun" not "good". It's fun because I can speed read it without having to think about the plot and only watching the awesome fights and titty action :P
effing long uninteresting non-sensical texts… should just leave this to a supplimentary material.

I think he was reacting to your thoughts on the moon
Ah, that too. It's not that I have anything against the moon, and I'm pro Enel, but seriously, does EVERYTHING have to tie in with the moon? It's as if a huge group of manga authors suddenly got a moon fetish. Oda isn't among them, since the moon is only a small part of the story, however if the moon is actually the last ancient weapon I WILL complain.
When the mangaka suddenly trolls you because they noticed a plot hole and decided to use shitroll to clog it up [/coughcoughbleachnarutobleachnarutocoughcough]
Though don't ask for an example.
I haven't read either in ages.
I just know they're trollers.
Didn't OP earth have SEVERAL moons? One of them could be a Death Star.Hell,I think one of the moons had its own moon.
DAMN IT,IT IS ALWAYS BECAUSE OF THE
Well, I don't know jackshit about astronomy or astrology or wathever it might be. I find outer space to be utterly terrifying (look, an asteroid! DIE! look, a black hole! DIE! look, the sun will explode! DIE! etc. . .), BUT some friends of mine who are interested in this stuff told me there's this theory around that the Moon and the Earth were a single entity in the past, that maybe got separated with a meteorite or asteroid impact, and then re-formed into the Earth and the Moon.
It seems the moon is unusaly big for a planet satellite, and the way it affects the tides and stuff could be because of that or. . .well. Stuff.
In the One Piece world that could be kinda cool since that would make the people from the moon not really Aliens but Humans. Just, different humans. Who evolved on the moon. Or something like that.
Edit: I DON'T want no smart-ass "lol you have no idea, it's nothing like that, if you don't know shit just shut up lolololol xdxdxd" answer to this. I already stated I don't know crap. People told me. And I've seen the theory is widely discused. So. . .that.
Spinning in openings; seriously.
I also get annoyed at generic character designs–where everyone looks the same, but, simply has a different hair color. I think that's a main reason I love shonen; most character designs from character-to-character are pretty different, like One Piece.
I'm also willing to say, that, 70% of manga/anime are too similar to one another. Same cliches, same character personalities, same "beating big-bad villain with deus ex machina friendship" etc. etc.
I can let it pass though (from time-to-time) if the series itself is awesome overall.
I think that's a main reason I love shonen; most character designs from character-to-character are pretty different, like
And I find it funny how lots of folk rag on One Piece for not looking "animayyyyyy" enough.

Well you guys beat me to the punch. I'm probably gonna get a lot of flack for this but I'm really not a huge fan of the typical "anime" art style. I guess it's just because I've grown up with Western animation more than anything so I tend to draw to styles that encompass different body types, facial structures and (SHOCK HORROR) ugly and attractive characters co-existing in the same universe. Generic soft, simple and overall conventionally safe character designs of something like say Bleach could not hold a candle to stuff like One Piece, Kaiji or anything by Tezuka or Urasawa just to name a few.
If we were venturing even more off topic I'd bring up the topic of western anime community and it's infatuation with only stereotypically Asian series which have left a lot of conceptually and artistic series cancelled or out of print (looking at you Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) to lay the pathway for more generic samurai, cherry blossom festival, moe ninja highschool franchises. But that's more of a personal gripe about the industry rather than critiquing from a creative point of view.
+100 gazillions,Will.
It's absolutely astounding how a good load of anime fans can't tolerate a slightest deviation from the stereotypical "animayyyyyy" design conventions or the existance of ugly or even just average looking characters.
Yet,I'm most annoyed when someone goes a step further and say that it's "not anime".You'd think fans of the medium would be trying to prove the diversity of their object of appreciation, not the opposite.
@Hiroy: So, Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer is good? I've heard some good things about it lately, so if it's worth the read, I'd love to check it out…
Good? No
Great? Heck noA complete satisfying experience? HECK YES!
It's only a few volumes long, but it's one of the most exiting tales I've ever encountered in the medium. There's just one moment where it introduces a whole bunch of characters at once, but as it continued I could not help but love every single one of them. It's… wow. It's hard to describe. Read it and you will never regret it.
This post right here: 100% pure, unadulterated truth…
Anyone who hasn't read Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer yet, do yourselves a favor and do so...
On topic: endings where the main characters who went through a lengthy ordeal together, becoming friends in the process, split up for no apparent reason.
[hide]Samurai Champloo is my absolute favorite anime, but no matter how much I love it or how many times I rewatch it, the ending still bothers me for splitting up Mugen, Jin and Fuu. After all they went through together and that touching conversation by the campfire, once the danger's over they go their separate ways? Screw that…[/hide]
Great idea.

Yes please_________________
Characters that are very adamant about solving a problem/conflict on their own and that get pissed off when someone else tries to help. An example (of which my memory may be slightly blurry, so forgive any mistakes) that I can think of is when Lan Fan was fighting Gluttony in Fullmetal Alchemist. After Al and Pride were sealed in the dome, Ed went to where she was and her response was "Did I ask for your help?!" or something along those lines.
Loser main characters that get picked on by everyone. Especially when they have some kind of hidden power and/or are "the chosen one".
I hate fanservice. I don't really read Kenichi or Fairy Tail that often, but whenever I do, all I see is huge round asses and cleavages everywhere.
You're required to turn your penis in.
Just drop it in the dropbox on the way out.
No, seriously though.
T&A isn't inheritently the problem. Problem is when a product is completely devoid of story or interesting progress, and tries to cover it up with excessive T&A. And yet, pretend to be something else.
Of course, products that makes no attempt to hide the fact it's completely about T&A, and does no effort to convince you otherwise, and treat it simply as part of its appeal, should be excluded.
It's like going to watch a kungu-fu movie and crying OMG THERE TOO MANY HITTING IN THIS MOVIE!
I got no problem with well placed fan-service.
I got a dick.
You're required to turn your penis in.

Hmm… I'd say fanservice, while a shallow tool, is still a tool to be used well. It can be used to create funny, cute, sexy, or even disturbing scenes. Correct me if I'm wrong but even Oda openly admits to his indulgences with pretty characters. The difference however between Oda and some other authors is that he writes people as actual characters first rather than objects. So I don't necessarily hate fanservice but I see where he's coming from. Haven't you ever happened across a scene intended to be taken seriously but instead some jarring and inexplicable fanservice pulls you right out of the moment? Like an upskirt during a motivational speech or something?
Err, anyway... I'm sick of seeing cowardly characters done wrong. "Useless", feeble characters seem to get a lot of flak nowadays due to tends of poorly-written mascots. But I think they're pretty damn entertaining when done well. Usopp and Yokoshima from Ghost Sweeper Mikami are two characters that come to mind.

Haha, were you taking 20 min to write the reply? :)
Example would be like Cage of Eden. Hey ratings are down! Let's stop fending off whatever man-eating doombeast of the day, and spend half the chapter with girls all naked and wet!
Yeah, it gets annoying after like the fifth time.
Whereas, Highschool DxD or Highschool of the Dead doesn't bother me one bit, since it's fully expected.
Nah I forgot Yokoshima's name so I looked up the first chapter of GSM in my manga folder and ended up reading the whole chapter lol.
Yokoshima's a true successor to the Ataru-type archtype.
Before protagonists sucked.
On the topic relevancy, that's exactly it for me.
I'm sick and tired of the spinless sackless protagonists that plague the market, especially in those harem ones.
Ataru (and Yokoshima) were the types that even if they couldn't get ther harem, they'd die trying.
The problem with Cage of Eden is that hidden there somewhere is a very interesting Lost-like story about the mysterious island and its history but it's completely ruined for me with the excessive fanservice bits. The author should just make a hentai and do the mystery part separately.
I don't mind the fanservice that much.
What I do mind is that they complety turned the series into 100% shounen when it doesn't make sense(hey lets have one on one fights against powerful beasts and win).
It kinda drops the whole realism of the situation.
something that slightly annoy's me. well this is not such a big deal. but when ever there's a black character (s)he has blonde hair. or red, pink, white whatever. why can't a nigga just have natural black hair?

Sometimes it's done for a Chinese character (such as Ku Fei in Negima).

Somehow I completely missed this post, doesn't help I didn't remember the English title.
Samidare had one of the most satisfying conclusion and some great plot twist, especially between the antagonist and seemingly completely unrelated character. I'd say it's one of the best manga produced in the past decade.
When a hot female's blantantly coming on to the protagonist and he doesn't smang
I mean C'MON MAN
I what I hate is when a character is used as the funny man in the manga but because fans bash hin when it comes out on Anime, they alter some interactions from meaningless or funny to become one where one popular character insults the other less liked one.
Its really obvious the animators did this to Kuwabara of Yu Yu Hakusho.

I've never actually thought about this. Or cared.
Especially if the series itself has a whole lot of characters with numerous natural hair colors.
What ticks me off more is people are that are quick to dismiss a character being black, all because he or she lacks exaggerated features or stereotypical personalities.
It's kind of offensive to me, especially if the show itself does not seem to focus on cultural ethnicity when it comes to design.

your right, it's nothing to make a big deal out of. i'm just nitpicking here. there are cliche's which bother me much more, but they are pretty much all already covered in this thread.
===
personally what annoy's me most is a female character physically abusing a male characters for comic relief. especially when everyone include that male character acts as if it's normal and he deserved it.
regarding this, one piece does it right. at times the male straw hats can act very stupid or annoying and nami scold them for it. but she never cross that line.

Eleven Million Times this.
Ichigo Kurosaki is a prime example I mean dude
I know people who'd sell their soul to get at something like this and all you do is
In Ichigo's defense (ugh), Orihime is insufferable.
Then again, I'm a Tatsuki fan, so I might be a bit biased…

Would you be able to even pay attention to her annoying you though ? I mean I sure wouldn't.
Bitter I am.
You're right, I'd be too busy trying to get with her best friend to pay her any mind…

Thanks to everyone in this thread who recommended this. Just finished reading. It's like it includes most of the tropes I hate in manga just to stand them on their head.
Loved it.
Oh, this is present in fiction in general but it annoys me, so it's fair game:
If a character has a very obvious "shocking" reveal dangling right in front of his face, yet they never ask the one question that would set things straight before the 300 chapter mark.
Males letting themselves get horribly abused by females for the sake of "comedy".
Main female lead being a hypocrite with double standarts and getting away with shit.
Or, as in the case of GS Mikami, actively exploiting a teen assistant's atraction to the protagonist by paying him barely enough money to survive on while the main character pockets humongous amounts of cash and lives the high life.
@No:

Well, an author would rather choose this route and be funny to some people than choose the opposite route and not be funny to anyone.
….But I kinda agree.

It's funny that the same person dealing out this abuse would be legitimately "hurt" if the same happened to them, usualy.
Double Standarts for the win !
The "women have impunity to hit guys" trope is really insulting to both sexes, because if you think about it's saying "oh but a girl can't REALLY ever be strong enough to seriously hurt him!"
I wonder if Urusei Yatsura can be hold responsible for this trope. You know,Lum's constant electric lynchings and stuff.
