! Nausicaa- It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but I read the manga last year, and of course the film can't possibly hold a candle to it. As for the film on its own merits, I remember liking it okay, but it didn't seemed a lot more unpolished or unfinished than other Miyazaki (well, duh).
! As for JesuOtaku, waddya know? She didn't like it! I think her complaint about Nausicaa being a messiah figure is understandable (but again, it's been a while since I've seen the movie) and that's actually something I did like about the manga that she kind of was a girl on her own and the world didn't revolve around her. And she made a really good point that idolizing women can be just as bad as objectifying them.
! Also, Patrick Stewart! WOO!
! Laputa- Pretty much agree with her on this. Laputa isn't a very ambitious moive, but it's a solid one. And correct if I'm wrong, but hasn't Cloris Leachman been in pretty much every Miyazaki that has an old lady in it?

Men in Black, even the first movie, was never as good as the tv series. That was pretty much pure excellence for most of its run.

The second movie was basically doing an Alpha story, but without Alpha. And a lot more obvious studio interference.

Plus if he's growing that fast physically why the hell wouldn't he mentally change too? I mean it just seems really stupid, he couldn't be mentally ten. He went through puberty and then some. His brain should be fully developed too among other things. He would only lack experience.
I mean I'm no scientist but that doesn't make any goddamn sense. I know enough to know most of what makes someone mentally an adult is biological and based around your growth.
It's like they wanted to make a movie about a retarded man, but were afraid of the controversy so they cooked up a stupid sci-fi explanation of why Robin Williams is going act like he's 5.

And yes they went there, and him being overjoyed that he's probably going to die about within a year, never manage to achieve anything, and dying alone. HAPPY.

Just like the ending to the flick where Williams plays a robot that wants to become human and, of course, he dies before he's recognised as one oficialy, and yet he was still happy with his life's goal being unfulfilled.

As a sidenote, I do want to see Doug review Mrs. Doubtfire, simply because…...well, if you've seen the movie, you'll know.

If you're referring to the images. The top one is Lone Wolf & Cub, a masterful manga about a ronin that returns home one day and finds his wife brutally murdered but his one year old son alive. He takes his son with him on a journey of vengeance to find the culprits.

The bottom image is Mad Bull 34, a crazy as fuck manga about two New York cops. One a half-Japanese rookie and the other a brickhouse of a man that shoots first, ask questions later, and fucks the nearby women because he can. Most of it involves the rookie getting scared by the insane things his partner does.

Both were written by the same person. Where Lone Wolf & Cub is considered a masterpiece, Mad Bull 34 is considered a joke.

I've always got the impression that Mad Bull 34 is not meant to be taken seriously. It's at the very least entertaining. I watched a bit of the English dub before and it's pretty hilarious due to the accents they added.

Thank god, I seriously hated Jack. I hated it when I was a kid, and I hated it as an adult. The fact that he became old didn't even phase me as a kid, purely cause I hated him as a character.

Only thing I liked about the movie was the mother. The fact that she was so loving, regardless of everything. That's really touching. Favorite would have to be when she puts extra cookies in his lunchbox, knowing he's going to have a hard time.

I think this is the first time I've ever 100% agreed with Todd on everything in his reviews.
I was singing hallelujahs and shouting amens to everything he said. Especially when he started talking about their other work.

Also, the fact that he used a song from Community at the end has made me love him even more.

Anytime Glee gets beat up is a good time.

I really like Somebody That I Used to Know btw. The other song is boring. Think I'll try to add Gotye on my 00's rock trip, he does sound a ton like Peter Gabriel who I love.

Okay, I've seen Being Human. In order:

The first story was absolutely pointless. The guy does nothing, is surprised it doesn't work, the movie spends five minutes to go up to a bunch of rocks, only to go back down to the beach to literaly the same scene.

The second story was kinda eh, it was sort of the only one with any kind of conflict and resolution and it at least was a no brainer.

The third story was a bit......bad. He doesn't realise abandoning his family would be bad until he's actualy done it. Also he and his ho fuck next to a dead kid after the woman steals his shoes.

The fourth story lacks any resolution. Oh they're shipwrecked, and the people they wanted to hang, they just hang them offscreen, and he's at odds with this one woman, and then they have to go and leave her there and he runs off like a coward and asks for the guy's shoes. That's it.

The fifth and final story, which was also at the begining, just kind of never gets started. It seemed like the begining of a possibly good family movie, but it just stopped before anything could happen. Also the call backs to things from previous stories was so blunt and forced it was painfull.

Finaly, I have to talk about the narration. The begining of the movie already has an overly "whimsical" opening, that's just too pretentious for it's own good, while being very poorly written, but the fact that Theresa Russell has to talk over everything, and bluntly explain stuff that just happened, or point out the fricken obvious. Plus, again, her narration is written so poorly, it's like a 16 year old writing his first screenplay and thinking it's Shakespeare.

Overall, not realy good. It's not horrible, but it just doesn't achieve anything.

Wow, that was the best crossover video ever.

Also its sad, but I end up filtering modern pop music through Todd and learning about stuff because of him. (Since I don't listen to the radio or american idol or anything like that at all.) Completely the lazy man's route of discovering music. Including some of the songs he hates, but end up being catchy after he rants on them for 20 minutes. Adele and Ceelo were both great, and after listening to some of their stuff on youtube, Fun. sounds right up my alley… Gotye less so.

I can relate. I get all my music info from him like I get all my political info from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (to be fair, I don't get the channels like Fox and CNN that you guys do). I just don't have the energy to look up and research that sort of stuff. For what it's worth, I think I've become more appreciative of music since I started watching Todd. I've become addicted to Ceelo Green and Katy Perry lol

…so, again, what kind of numbers do the pop charts demand?

What is influential that makes people go out and buy songs, other than hearing them? (I know nothing of the music industry, so I'm clueless in this field.)

But beyond that viewer exposure, being on an episode of glee then gets it onto the season soundtrack, dvds, reruns, airplay, and advertisement through itunes and amazon. Ongoing exposure. Its a big commercial show that they figured out very quickly to turn into a themed soundtrack selling commercial.

(I watched the first episode and that was enough for me, but its easy to tell what they do with it.)

While 6 million viewers is low, we can't forget how influential that number of people can be. Those people can spread word, and tell others to listen to the song. Sure, they may not watch Glee, but they may still like the song.

I'm about 50/50 the same way.

I can say that I've already known half the songs her reviews before he reviews them, namely anything from Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, or Katy Perry. I'm shocked he didn't review "Blow" from Ke$ha, but honestly, I think that might be one of her best songs (and is her best video). And I nearly cheered when he put Gaga's "Edge of Glory" on his best list.

Strangest thing is: If I hadn't heard the song BEFORE he reviewed it, I'll wind up hearing it a billion times on the radio. Gotye, I passed by it dozens of times on the radio BEFORE he reviewed it, so I knew of the song. Never really gave it a chance, but I'm gonna still try it. However, I feel like the song is far better lyric wise than it is music wise. She COMPLETELY castrates the poor guy lyrically in the song, and I can't help but side with her.

I wish Todd would do some videos on some lesser-known, recent artists and bands that he likes. For example I remember him mentioning liking Robyn a lot, and while I don't like her all that much I appreciate him giving her some recognition. He's probably my favorite reviewer on the site.

And even if 6 million doesn't seem like all that much, that shit still balloons. Were those the only indie songs Glee covered? It seems like Glee gave them a push and then their actual merit carried the momentum.

I watched one of them and decided that was good enough for kid-me. I might still have them somewhere in the depths of my closet. I should check on that because as Brad showed the Bibleman stuff is that kind of magical "so bad it's good" quality that is so much fun to riff over.

It was this episode if you're so curious. I'd strongly recommend seeing it at least once haha. Part 2 has a musical number if I remember right:
