@firecrouch:
There was. Shueisha trademarked the name after 4Kids used it, probably because 4Kids was afraid of copyright issues that might arise out of Zorro.
It's irrelevant now, however it wouldn't make sense for VIZ to change it back now after so many volumes of Zolo.
Zolo is not really worth complaining about since the editor at VIZ has even said there's worse mistakes VIZ has made that fans seem to not notice/gloss over, probably because of a lack of knowledge in Japanese if i had to guess.
EDIT: In what instance was Zoro used in that issue? it may have been something snuck in only once or possibly a mistake
For the Zoro instance, I don't have the issue on me. I was reading up on the history of the Zoro/Zolo translation on the One Piece wikia when I saw that tidbit at the end. I was actually hoping someone with a recent issue of the US jump could verify this. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised that this is merely false wiki-editing.
But regardless of the this, my position on Alpha's translation remains the same. The Alpha website is a service product that has a cost to it. Now I have been using Funimation's Video function since a month after it came out. There are things that bug me with how they handle names (Hody being called "Hordy", Jinbe as "Jimbei", Teach as "Teech"), but I can deal with that since it's a free service.
The Alpha service has a fee however. When it comes to manga/anime being translated/dubbed, I personally look for names to remain the same. It's how I can indentify with a character. I can't go from being a big fan of Franky only to have him become Flankee. Since Alpha has that price tag with it, I needed to weigh the pros and cons and in the end, I decided that Alpha wasn't worth it as it is right now.
@Malintex_Terek:
And all of that doesn't change the fact that arguing against Alpha because of one minor and technically not incorrect translation is stupid. There are other reasons to not buy online manga, but that's a really bad one to get behind.
You make it sound like it's the ONLY reason why I'm against Alpha as of now. The gap between Alpha and Japan's Jump is another biggie for me.
