Hah, I was reading over those older chapters just yesterday. For anyone that forgot, that was back when Mashiro was working as Eiji's assistant. That was a really fun mini-arc (or whatever you can call it). I loved Fukuda's complaints with Jump when he was talking to Yujiro in particular.

Spoiler: They all die at the end.
-
Really good chapter I must say. I can see the series wrapping up soon. They're getting the anime and Eiji is "all fired up" to compete with it. Looks like there's going to be one more stretch of competition before it's all over and Ashirogi Muto will either manage to succeed in making JUMP's flagship, or fail. Yet, we all know in the end Mashiro will get Miho who seems soooo left out of the story right now.
I mean, they keep mentioning her but she's like a ghost we never see except in glimpses. Oh yeah she does exist!
-
You know, the entire Miho plot would be so much easier to accept if, at the start of the series, she'd had to move away to the other side of the country. Being hours and hours away would make their entire (basically) long distance relationship seem a lot more sensible and normal. It's only bizarre that they never see each other because… they're clearly within easy visiting distance. Kaya hangs out with her all the time.

! The asshole guy takeshi punch back in the begining is back and is going to cause trouble.
-
It's a shame that Reversi, having been built up as the series, hasn't had anywhere near the amount of behind-the-scenes attention that PCP (which is apparently chopped liver as far as the series is concerned now) did.
Because Reversi is essentially a fusion of Death Note and Blue Dragon - Ral Grad, and they assume most people that are reading Bakuman have read Death Note.

! What an…exciting...development...JUST END THE MANGA ALREADY. Well, I guess it's kinda cool to harken back to the old days.

Wish this was a longer series.

The new chapter is out! http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/bakuman/en/0/165/page/1
! …And it looks like it's (finally) time for Azuki's battle to begin!
! Looks like we're about to see the perils of being a voice actress. -
I really love Obata's color work. Just great watercolors, and amazing skintones. His color pages are always the best in Jump, aside from Oda. Though the story page looks far superior to the title page splash, he clearly did that a bit faster.
Great chapter overall too. Lot of emotion and good character bits in it. But oiii, that ending. Well, I guess its finally time for Miho to get an arc after going missing for 100 chapters?

"And that's the moment in my life when I became a man"
[/hide]I liked the first half of the chapter. Second half… Why is this douchebag back?
-
This was a nice chapter, but I'm still having a hard time buying that that's Mashiro's end-all-be-all heroine. Oh how I wish that there'd been more development time with this Death Note/Code Geass amalgamation before it became the series.
! Oh god, Ishizawa. First Takagi punched him out, then Fukuda planted his face in a potted plant. Who will it be to put him in his place this time, and how?
! I'm surprised that I was apparently on to something when I suggested that the whole engagement thing would be leaked. In any event, we're long overdue for looking at what Azuki's been going through, so this is a welcome change in conflect.Since when did Takahama have green hair?
-
"And then… I get brainwashed..."
Best heroine right there.
Nonetheless, great chapter. Really liked all character interactions, an actual glimpse into Azuki's everyday life and her and Mashiro call. That was their first call in forever. I'd question how are they able to converse so easily despite doing it so rarily, but that would take all the fun out of it. So, good for them.
Although, I wish we had been shown some of Azuki's "own way" before it would be referenced so quietly on the sidelines.
Who will it be to put him in his place this time, and how?
Mashiro himself, I'd say. Or Hiramaru just because.
-
Heheh, I loved Kaya's reaction the second she left the apartment. It's something I would totally do.
This was a spectacular chapter. The art was great, especially the colorspread (though I wonder why Takahama has green hair). Not excited to see that one douchebag back, but I suppose that should be my reaction since I know he's going to throw a monkey wrench in there somehow.
-
Mashiro himself, I'd say. Or Hiramaru just because.
I'm kinda picturing Azuki slapping his face relentlessly into oblivion, but a man can dream.
-
Took me forever to remember who Ishizawa is…
Great chapter though.

Bakuman is getting on my nerves, just let them have their anime and get married already goddamn lol.
They're a handful of chapters away from that, which is pretty much the final goal of the series. The series will be over soon enough.
Unless they're extending it to outlive Naruto and Bleach which are on their last legs, in which case they'll need a new mega plot soon.
I bet Kaya was the one who typed that internet post >.>
It was the voice actress from the party a couple chapters ago that was hitting on Mashiro.
-
Ohba and Obata can always focus on Mashiro's and Azuki's building their family while being popular and succesful active author and performer. Probably will be lefels of Futari Ecchi awkward, although as their talk in theis chapter shows, they actually can converse with each other despite barely remembering how they look, so who knows.
Oh! I know. When Nanamine hears about Reversi anime, he will ask his father to fund his own anime studio. But instead of hiring chinese animators for food, he will actually hire professionals for money and once again will be the one responsible for his downfall. Wham, a plotline for a few volumes.
I'm kinda picturing Azuki slapping his face relentlessly into oblivion, but a man can dream.
Seeing how Azuki is going to wear the pants in this family, there's a good chance for that.
-
I could easily see the series going for along while into the cast's adulthood since its slice of life series, its just most of the ongoing plotlines have been wrapped. Guess if they start introducing new elements soon we'll know.
I still would have liked to have seen Hikaru No Go run a couple more years, it was crazy seeing Hikaru growing up.

Hikaru no go was too awesome, I was so sad when it ended. I don't know if I'll be sad to see Bakuman end though. It's interesting and all but I only really read it when I'm bored and have nothing else to do. Only thing left to do is beat Eiji and then they're done I guess.
-
Can someone please tell me why Miho has two copies of each PCP and Reversi volume?
And hey, I thought they learned their lesson with Nanamine to not bring boring antagonists back.

I thought the same thing when I saw the cover spread. It's just beautiful.
Kuroko no Basuke is another series that often impresses me with its color pages.http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kuroko_no_basuke/v12/c105/2.html http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kuroko_no_basuke/v11/c090/5.html http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kuroko_no_basuke/v11/c090/6.html

One for reading and abusing, and one for keeping in pristine condition.

Yeah, I'm just jealous. I'd do that if I could afford it.
About Ishizawa, did someone get what's going on? Is he planning on starting rumors that Mashiro and the random girl are seeing each other? I didn't quite get it, maybe I should reread the chapter.
-
Yeah, I'm just jealous. I'd do that if I could afford it.
While its possible sh ebought the things to support her boyfriend, I'd imagine they get more than a few free comp copies to give away.
-
Good to see Azuki coming back into the story after, god knows how many chapters.
I still don't get their "romance" though.

It works much much easier on the brain if you just treat it like its a long distance relationship and pretend she doesn't live in the same city.
At that point its perfectly normal and sweet.

Aside from the fact that, long distance or not, the terms for them getting married are completely insane.
Anyway, great chapter, but please let this mange be wrapping up! (or at least let Mashiro and Azuki get married). If the series gets extended for another arc because of the sabotage of that Ishizawa douchebag, I'm going to blow a gasket.
-

I had to put myself at peace with everyone in this manga being an idiot when it came to their careers when Eiji said he'd keep Crow going if someone beat him.
They're still idiots, but the manga is their entire universe. Its a conceit of the series that just has to be accepted.
However stupid and dumb it may be.
-
After reading your posts, it seems like there are a lot of little details that I never notice when I'm just skimming the chapters. I only really pay attention when Hattori's involved so I guess it's inevitable that I miss things…

When you skim a text-heavy manga like this…...uh, yeah, that'll happen.
-
Just can't seem to get serious about this kind of manga, it seems a bit too whimsical to me. It was more interesting in the beginning when there was more on the line.
-
About Ishizawa, did someone get what's going on? Is he planning on starting rumors that Mashiro and the random girl are seeing each other? I didn't quite get it, maybe I should reread the chapter.
Going with Sket Dance/Gintama experience he won't dirty the name of his idol, even if it cost him his life, until the "Romance" fallout.
I'm guessing that he'll try to leak Azuki's name and say that she got the part for favoritism rather than talent, put all her carrer on the spotlight (of the otaku comunity). Even if it's a logic leap, there's not much else in his range of posibilities.
-

He will leak the Mashiro-Azuki connection before the voice actress role has been decided and put pressure on the studio to choose "Rari", that other girl from the new year's party. It's the only way to create any kind of suspense at all of Azuki not getting the role we've been waiting for her to get for the entire manga.
For me though it just feels like the authors are prolonging things again though. Is it really conceivable that the most talented voice actress wouldn't get a role that the extremely popular creators of the series want her for?
-
Well, at least Miho gets to do SOMETHING before the series wraps. It would be nice if she'd had this arc before the end, but it keeps her final dream from being handed to her on a silver platter.
-

The thing is, I accepted this during the start of the series, but when Azuki dropped off the face of the earth for 30+ chapters, I began to think the relationship is stupid.

Just because it doesn't get panel time doesn't mean it wasn't happening.
Are we supposed to assume Eiji only did 7 chapters of Crow because those are the only chapters we saw snippets of? Are we really supposed to assume Hirimaru and Aoki got engaged after just one date?
They've talked and hung out more than they've seen. Its just been mostly through texting because they're shy.
And stupid.
-
It's like the authors read our collective minds when we were wondering where the hell Miho was in the storyline and the "heroine" to the Reversi story. 1 week later the chapter starts out with the both of them. For the authors to fill in that gap that felt missing in the storyline for so long and right when it was the most noticeable is just plain good intuition and writing.
Overall, really good chapter. All I could think about when the heroine was brainwashed was Orihime though… She doesn't strike me as a "heroine" character. Miho doesn't seem to mind though, not at all. I thought she was going to complain but I guess that's not in character.
-
I'd be complaining too but they really do seem to be in love. I had my doubts, but the author manages to show the devotion whenever they do actually talk.
-
Sweet chapter. On one hand it would be nice to see the series end now when everyone is happy, but on the other I want Ishizawa (or something else) to prolong it again because this series is so enjoyable right now…
-
I don't see how a hikkikomori with access to only the same information as everyone else will be a threat on his own.
Well, unless he starts some sort of internet backlash. But c'mon, this late in the game?
-
I don't see how a hikkikomori with access to only the same information as everyone else will be a threat on his own.
He knows them from school. No one else knows that Mashiro and Azuki know each other at all.
-
I'm really excited to see what's gonna happen with this development…And as Robby mentioned, I'm really happy this means Miho will have to actually fight to get the role. After all the trouble Ashirogi's been through to get to this point, it wouldn't be all that fair if it was completely easy for her to get it, even if she has made it as a voice actress on her own.
-

If you haven't figured it out yet, this series is supposed to be mimicking Death Note, essentially. As such, the heroine is supposed to essentially be Misa, who was, for all intents and purposes, brainwashed by Light into being his tool.
-
Yeah, I know its been mentioned before and that panel where the demon appeared behind the main character reminded me of the Shinigami that followed Light around. Still, the main female role is not a very "heroine" type but if it's following the way of Death Note I can see where my complaint about the character comes from.
-

And Misa Misa is hardly "the role of a lifetime". If that's all their deathnote proxy is, then its not that great a part.
-
The female lead should kill the male lead once she's free, and usher a new world peace at the end.
-
166 spoilers are out…
! The blog post is taken care of in short order and Mashiro thinks they're in the clear…until Ishizawa deduces what it means and the proverbial otaku/gossip shitstorm starts a'brewing.
! And Ishizawa's ''ONIICHAN'' shirt makes my blood boil. -
! Mashiro and Azuki's dream possibly destroyed by otakus.
! How ironic. -

Hey, remember that Shanks cat Luffy dedicated his life to return his hat to?
When was the last time Luffy physically, conciously saw Shanks? Oh right, over 500 chapters, this One Piece Manga is stupid.
