Chapter 655: Punk Hazard
-
-
I really liked the chapter. I really wonder how all this happened to this island…I read some nice theories for the matter, but I'll just wait and see. And.... a dragon :D When I saw that dragon, I recalled of a soaked in blood serpent Dory and Brogy from Elbaf talked about, before using their ultimate attack to help SHs leave the island safely. I'm not saying that the dragon has something to do with this.Just what I first thought about when I saw the dragon...
Waiting for the next chapter!!! :D
-
Could this guy be an early concept of the Samurai that was mentioned in this chapter? He does look like he is wearing something for cold climates.
-
I'm guessing(cause of the strong evidence) that this island was once a winter island, and that it was artifically created,
The symbol on the warning sign is a skull of Oar's species, which is the skull they found on the island

OFF TOPIC
Where can I find the Coco Banana post? It's hilarious!!!

The dragon was a shocker to me.Ussop comedy made me like this chapter better than last week.somethings just can't change .ussop can be brave but if he's like that all the time it would be taking away from what I like about him.Smoker finally made an appearance and kinda looks like ben beckmon with sun glasses and a scar.
-
If this is going to be a long arc, then that means Smoker will be involved in it. I hope Smoker doesn't arrive from the side of the island that the Sunny is at. Unless Oda has in mind to have Sanji fight him. But I prefer Smoker to get involved in the plot, rather than just fight to defeat the others, which seems rather pointless in a way.
-
Wano country seems interesting, from what they said it loosely reminds me of several Asian countries way back then that blocked off trade and stuff with outsiders. Can't wait to see it.
-
Loved this chapter.
Nami's "Milky Road" (no innuendo there) is a bit of an odd duck. But then I remember that Nami spent two years on an island dedicated to the study of understanding and controlling weather. I can accept the possibility she figured out how to make Milky Dials work on the Blue Sea while in Weatheria or (as mentioned earlier) she's using a different method entirely. No biggie there.
Zoro not knowing Samurai or the Wano country is the bigger gaffe to me. He fought a samurai, and even referred to Ryuuma as such. But then, he also said "Let's pretend this fight never happened, Samurai of the Wano Country." So perhaps he actually did put it out of his mind/make himself forget about it (we saw he literally wiped his mind blank of Kokoro). Still, the gaffe is at least mitigated (and perhaps acknowledged by Oda) by the fact that Zoro asked Brook while Robin was in the room and almost certainly able to answer. If Zoro did forget, it'd make sense he'd probably remember just enough to realize Brook would know about it.
Smoker's looking good, but why does he have such a psychotic ship's crew? I remember it being said that G5 wasn't a station people went to willingly when Smoker wanted his transfer, so having it as a "dumping ground" could make sense. But in the two years Marine HQ went from Marineford to G5. You'd think someone like Akainu would clean up attitudes like that. Unless that housecleaning is exactly why Smoker has that crew. His ship's become the new dumping ground, possibly because Smoker, like rival Aokiji, is not a believer in Absolute Justice.
I've seen as many dragons talk as not. So while a surprise, it's hardly anything for me to be skeptical of. The only question now is whether the dragon is a native, created there as earlier suggested, or imported from someplace else when Punk Hazard was still doing whatever it was doing.
I'm glad someone else noticed that Robin was backseat driving the Mini-Merry 2. I was going through the thread and began to wonder if I'd hit the current page with nobody spotting it.
-
I predicted about 3 years ago Nami would be able to make clouds that one could ride upon. Hip hip hooray! Only I wonder if she actually used Usopp's old Milky dial. Either way I expect Nami to fly around like Goku at some point.
-
Loved this chapter.
Zoro not knowing Samurai or the Wano country is the bigger gaffe to me. .Like I said we are not sure what he said yet the translations of his sentence dn't match (CCC's and mangastream's).
So, any speculation on a.) why the island had no field, and b.) what the skull was that was bigger than a giant's? (i.e., Sanjuan Wolf's people?)
For b) There was some speculation throughout the thread. Page 16 -I think it's an 'Oars'.
I predicted about 3 years ago Nami would be able to make clouds that one could ride upon. Hip hip hooray! Only I wonder if she actually used Usopp's old Milky dial. Either way I expect Nami to fly around like Goku at some point.
Lol that would be sweet.

Going to address a big wrong you have going on
Marine HQ is not situated at G5, it was stated it switched places with the G1 district. i assume g5 is further in the new world and in a very dangerous place by the way Aokiji was telling smoker.
Also not sure why everyone thinks zoro has no idea what a samurai is. He must know somewhat that it involves a swordsman or else he woudl not have asked about it. Zoro never asks about stuff, yet instantly he pipes up and goes "brook tell me more about this samurai" its like luffy hearing about a yonkou. luffy gets all excited. here was Zoro like, "ooh a swordsman, tell me more"
-
I love how Smoker knew that Luffy would want to go to the most dangerous island which he would also be resistant to coincidentally. I also find it strange that Luffy didn't land near any of the 3 islands. Maybe it was because ofwhitestromm or the island whales that carried him farther away right?
-
I literally can't read spoilers, because by the time I get home from school or have computer class, the chapter's already out. Last week, my friend took a look exactly at the page where Nami was having a bath. Needless to say, he was pleased. Then looked at me like: "Why are you reading comics with nude girls?"
Interesting, the one time I did not read spoilers is when I was too busy with homeworks and group projects. When I read the chapter I had a lot more fun. I realized that by the circumstances or rather accident.
Well, One Piece doesn't contain that much fanservice unlike Fairy tail.
-
And you sir are being an idiot. I have clearly stated in all of my posts about how Luffy was in the heat area for what all of a few hours. And that was years ago. NO WAY would that ever build up a resistance to heat.
And yes resistance and immunity are same damn thing in this case. If someone is able to walk around a freezing cold antarctic in their t-shirt and shorts, they would be considered immune to the cold. Makes more sense saying that than saying they are resistant to the cold.
How can you decide what I meant by resistance? Immunity to heat would mean he wouldn't feel hot at all. Resistance simply means he feels hot but isn't bothered enough to take off his shirt or comment about it. I used it in its proper form and you're using it in its general vague sense then begin to argue based on that incorrect interpretation despite me correcting you on my stance. Now you're on this name call bullshit and bringing up some non-applicable nonsense about Antarctica? Like I said you're unbelievable. Arguing against an idea I never had. You even say what I meant in your post and when I say "Dude that is what I meant" you still argue something else entirely. I don't even know what that kind absurdity is called?
-
The one thing I love about the New World is that the new Log Pose thing. I love this whole chase scene from smoker. I mean in the first half it would have been easy like "ok, Strawhats were at Whiskey Peak. Their next destination is Little Garden 100% fact. No way around it unless they die, find an eternal pose or risk all fate and randomly sail.
NOW though there is a 3 choice system. Seeing how Smoker knows Luffy so well, the chase will be pretty obvious but otherwise still neat that a pirate can go to one of 3 places instead of only 1. I wonder why this new place has no needle, and since that, if there ar eplace the needle willl point to while on this island OR if after this they head to again one of thosse 3 places Smoker mentioned.

Like I said we are not sure what he said yet the translations of his sentence dn't match (CCC's and mangastream's)
What does Zoro say in the CCC version? I don't know where to find that one offhand.
Going to address a big wrong you have going on
Marine HQ is not situated at G5, it was stated it switched places with the G1 district. i assume g5 is further in the new world and in a very dangerous place by the way Aokiji was telling smoker.
My mistake on the G5/G1/Marineford thing. I was remembering Aokiji say G5 was the New World branch of the Marines, and his dialogue suggested there wasn't much of a Marine presence in the first place due to it being Emperor territory.
Though my point still stands, Smoker's apparently psychotic crew is still within spitting distance of Marine HQ since they're at the New World exit of Fishman Island, which is at the Red Line, where ex-G1/Marine HQ is located. The only thing I can think is that G5 isn't so much further into the New World as further down the Red Line

so you can decide what i mean by immune yet i can't decide waht you mean by resistance?
And no resistance to heat does not mean "he feels hot but isn't bothered enough to take off his shirt or comment about it" What you are saying is he tolerates heat up to a certain point. If he was resistant to heat he would not feel it at all. When i am cooking I put on heat resistant gloves to take stuff out of the oven. Or When i am working with electricity I may wear rubber gloves to have a electrical resistance.
-
Wonder what's going to go on with the dragon. He seems fairly sentient, but he might not be willing to negotiate. Whatever, even if it comes down to a fight, it shouldn't be a problem: they've got Luffy and Zoro. They're fucking monsters themselves.

We don't know where G5 is. All we know is Smoker was close enough to the red line at the time of his hearing of Luffy's return to be present when Luffy emerged. He could have been out sialing the New World and not been at G5 when he heard. Also how long were the strawhats at Fishman island? 2 days? 3 days? i dont' recall. But he had a good 2-3 days to sail to the red line and then wait for Luffy.

um, how do you know its isn't?… and if it is a real dragon and not a DF user, does that mean we will be seeing phoenix flying around the place (not a clue what the plural of phoenix is, phoenixes?) maybe some giant moving golden budda statues that shoot death rays while we are at it?
the idea is that it is a "mythic" zoan..... aka not real
I don't. The only person making assumptions is you.
We know from Monsters (which is canon) that a dragon, which was not a DF user, existed in Wano Country at some time.
We don't know if there's a Dragon DF, and even if there is (and even if this isn't it), that doesn't automatically mean that phoenixes exist elsewhere in the world. And the Buddha point is stupid, and you know it. Dragons existing in the OP world =/= Daibutsu existing in the OP world.
You're making random assumptions that don't make sense.
Seeing a dragon in two panels is not enough to say it's a DF user or not. There's simply no way to tell at this point. I'm not saying it isn't, I'm saying you can't just say it is.

I agree on the Zoro and Samurai thing. I saw it as more of Zoro asking about that group of samurai ito be specific, not about samurai in general. Just because Wano is known for their strong samurai does not mean that Wano is the only place with samurai. Since he won the blade from Ryuma, makes sense he would be interested in the homeland of Ryuma and his fellow samurai.

You should add to your points that also someone said earlier that we have already seen MYTHICAL BEAST in the form of a Kraken. Even the characters in the manga called it mythical.
Also i wouldn't be too quick to rule out some budhist clan in the one piece world with mystical powers either. Not sure why he is saying shooting death rays though. All I recall sengoku doing was punching.
I mean look at all One Piece has. Some involves Devil Fruit while others don't. These are all NON DF things.
1. Sea Kings
2. Giants
3. Long-arm, long neck, long leg, ect
4. Mermaids
5. fishmen
6. Bears, Lions, and Starfish that can talk
7. All those monsters from the Strong World movie
8. the animals on Long ring long island, and the fish in the sky
9. Kraken
10. African Sea Beast (rhino fish, lion fish, bear fish, ect)
11. those horse things at water 7
12. DINOSAURS
13. CYBORGSis it so hard to imagine having a real dragon or a real pheonix

What does Zoro say in the CCC version? I don't know where to find that one offhand.
Zoro: "I hate samurai… Brook-"
Brook: "Ehhh THAT KIND of samurai? That's what they call the swordsmen of Wano. Wano is a country with an isolation policy that doesn't accept outsiders. They're not a part of the World Government. The samurai are so strong that not even the Marines can approach."
This is what he posted in the spoiler thread not sure if he still thinks it's that we should wait until he sees the raws.
Edit: You're welcome :) -

I'm guessing(cause of the strong evidence) that this island was once a winter island, and that it was artifically created,
The symbol on the warning sign is a skull of Oar's species, which is the skull they found on the island
An interesting idea. A winter island interfered with by Vegapunk, maybe?

By my understanding:
Resistance - Affected by something, but not as much as someone who has no resistance at all.
Immunity - Not affected by something in the first place. To illustrate the point, Chopper's furry body gives him much more resistance to cold than the others on the crew (and, consequently, leaves him far less capable in the heat). But just because he's more resistant to the cold doesn't mean he can't get cold. Aokiji could just as easily freeze Chopper as he did Luffy and Robin. On Skypeia, Luffy was flat-out immune to Eneru's lightning. Eneru could not hurt Luffy with his powers act at all except indirectly (he's immune to electricity itself, but the heat that electricity generates is a different matter).
If you're immune to something, it doesn't matter how much of it you get hit by you won't be affected. If you're resistant, then enough of it can and will overwhelm you.
EDIT: Thank you Dasia for the clarification. For now I think I'll withdraw judgement on the Zoro / Samurai thing until Mangastream gets its cleanup on or another translation from the released chapter appears.
-

Stop talking to me. You are in another world and I am done with you. You go from one extreme to the next. From the wrong interpretation of "resistance" to now the ultra-literal and narrow definition of resistance.

Do you guys really argue about something that trivial?

Very mature of you.

Believe me I'm more blown away than you. I make a comment about Luffy not taking the heat in stride and….

It's the internet. Need I say more?
EDIT: Darn, King Cannon beat me to it.

I like that this board has already figured out the parallel in names between Vegapunk and Punk Hazard. The gate and feel of the island really reminds me of the island Franky was stuck on. That island was ruined by Franky blowing up Vegapunk's equipment, I'm sure an experiment gone wrong by Vegapunk would permanently alter the island's climate and turn it into the uninhabitable hell it now is. Either it's an abandoned government installation, or Vegapunk still works there, given the island as a total loss.
There are two things I want to see in the series: Vegapunk and Elbaf. I seriously hope we're at the first.
-

That would be a very likely presumtion, yes.
-

If someone is going to argue over my use of a word when his word is just as bad, then yes i'm going to argue.
-
I remember having a similar discussion about immunity/resistance somewhere in this board, except it concerned Luffy's immunity/resistance to poison, which made sense. Who the hell came up with this "Luffy is immune/resistant to heat" bullcrap?
-

That's the only reason I used the word immune. It makes no sense saying Luffy is resistant to heat.
And my Antarctic example was just an example in order to illustrate a sentence. If your somewhere super cold and someone is barely wearing anything, take Franky for example's clothing. A person may go "holy crap what are you immune to the cold" You would sound like an idiot saying "what are you resistant to the cold" or "what are you cold resistance" or I can't think of a way to say it without sounding stupid.
THUS why in my responce I used immune/resistance so that I didn't feel dumb, yet he would understand that I was referring to his comment. If I left out resistant, the only response I would have gotten back was "what are you an idiot I said resistant and not immune" thus degrading my whole conversation down to a petty definition/grammer lession. YET low an behold, look what just happened.
-
Yeah, if anything I think it'd be the opposite. I'd had a theroy once that Luffy was more resistant to cold because of his rubber body (assuming I'm even close to how that sort of thing works shrug) but he seemed no less capable in the heat like Chopper does during Alabasta.
Incidentally, this whole resistance thing gave me an idea. Since Nami suggested the island is half-frozen half-flaming, when the fighting kicks up Chopper will be forced to fight right on the borderline against someone strong against the heat but weak in the cold.
That's the only reason I used the word immune. It makes no sense saying Luffy is resistant to heat.
No offense, but saying he's immune makes even less sense.
-
Of course Luffy is already in the thick of something.
Havent they all seen a dragon already or was that anime filler i can't remember.
Either way i dont see this taking too long, the Big Mam thing is still heating up.
I can't wait to see how this all progresses. -
Luffy is neither resistant nor immune to heat. There's no proof about that.
Now, can this stupid discussion end? If you're having trouble understanding the meaning of some word, go look for a fucking dictionary.
-
This chapter was extremely well made….
I loved every single page of this chapter, this arch is going to be AMAZING.......
Oda you genius, we already know that after this arch, there might be a potential Yonko vs luffy fight??(who knows) -

That was my whole point. I did not want or understand why Luffy would be either resistant or immune ot temperature. That's all my original post was about.
THEN this guy had to go into saying "I DIDN'T SAY IMMUNE" and here we are.
-
This creates a plot hole in the anime, because they've already met a dragon back in the Apis filler arc. Anyway, chapter was insane, anything to do with Zoro and a prospective fight with a swordsman or anything involving swords is cool in my book.

I wonder how the anime staff will handle that. Hopefully, they'll just ignore the Apis filler like it never existed in the first place.

I hope so too…Man that wasnt a dragon...I mean that head of his .... the whole thing...Lets pray for a "Kokoro like" memory delete from the anime :P
"we haven't met a dragon again...Right?" "Right captain"!!

A Dragon… the New World is blowing my mind.
Also Luffy is gonna talk to it, I am hyped. -

Based on general knowledge of what a dragon is, i wouldn't call the bird from the Apis's arc a dragon…...(More like a Giant disfigured bird....)
The dragon that was introduced to us in chapter. 665 seems to betray properties similar to a "real" dragon....
(that shit lives in life, and breathes smoke from its mouth)
BTW i love how Zoro was ready to fight XD -

Apis? Who's that?
It will be the first time we'll see a dragon in this anime!! (except from Dragon off course…..)
